Statement From Bucs GM Jason Licht

May 7th, 2019

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

Our Buccaneers have released remarks from Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht concerning the news today that defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul may need season-ending neck surgery.

“As we stated last week following the news of Jason’s auto accident, our immediate concern was for both Jason and his passenger. While Jason was treated and released in south Florida the same day of the accident, we wanted to ensure that our medical team had an opportunity to perform a thorough evaluation here in Tampa, and that process is currently ongoing.”

Hardly encouraging words from the GM.

Will JPP come to Tampa for an evaluation? At this point, Joe assumes it’s still voluntary. The Bucs might need to go examine JPP themselves in South Florida, assuming he goes for it.

That marks 2 Jason Licht statements on this matter that both say absolutely nothing.

    #FireLicht

  2. Marine Buc Says:

GM Licht is as idiotic as the Glazer boys. They both deserve each other and this crap black hole of a team. Just a soulless heartless entity that bilks money from poor idiotic fans with nothing else to do.

  3. D-Rome Says:

More spin. Hey Jason, how’s Kendell Beckwith doing?

The G’Boyz could make more money running a TV reality show based on the Buccaneers than they make from season tickets…

  5. BucStew Says:

But we didn’t need a pass rusher! Who could ever dream that something might happen to JPP?

  6. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

LOL….Jason got a 1 year contract extension in 2018…I don’t mean to laugh at him personally but gessshhh…as the saying goes about luck…”if I didn’t have bad luck…….”
at the end of the day in the NFL it comes down to talent and the Bucs are running low on the little talent they had on defense

  7. BlogTalkFootball Says:

And now, not addressing the DE position is looking pretty moronic. #DepthWinsInDecember

  8. Todd Says:

This statement was written by attorneys, folks. Not anyone else.

    We will get no news.

His statement begs the question, though…was the passenger hurt? Was the passenger also NOT (obviously) wearing a fricking SEAT BELT?

  9. Tbbucs3 Says:

This is the result you get when a guy who should’ve already been fired is still running a football team 5 years later. Jason Licht took a Mark Dominic dumpster fire and has only expanded the flames.

  10. Petty Officer Buc Says:

JPP is done, GMC is either gone or staying but disgruntled, Nassib is a question mark, Beau Allen is a rotational player or backup on any other team.

This has been the offseason from hell.

if JPP is done…then so is McCoy…that is what I’d do…capture the cap space and move on…McCoy without JPP is false hope

    It’s a Bucs life

  16. EvolvingBucsFan Says:

Every year I say it can’t get any worse than last year.

I’m gonna stop saying that now. We are and have been a bad soap opera.

  17. donuts Says:

No on Ziggy…there is a reason he is unclaimed….wants major money and has not produced in 3 seasons…plus he is a known to take plays off.

Licht didnt just expand the flames…..he backed up his HEAVY FALCON GM rocket and let the hydrogen gas out to implode RayJay.

Do most of you realize that this means the end of GMC (dont think the JPP injury changes this release), JPP (2019- last year guaranteed) and probably Winston? Let me know when you catch up. Do the Glazers bring back Winston at $20M after a 6-10 season (not all his fault) to a team clearly in rebuild mode? The tea leaves say no.

  18. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

The Luck of The Licht strikes again! Football Gods want him back as a regional scout where he belongs…

  19. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Jon this has been happening to us looong before Licht came aboard this sinking ship.

  20. tmaxcon Says:

jpp proving he is and will always be a dumbarse, cancer93 melting down on social media yet AGAIN! this franchise is nowhere near NFL level but It sure is giving Jerry Springer a run for his money

  21. Sarasota Garey Says:

JPP might be done in Tampa

  22. Marine Buc Says:

Cleveland Browns win average past ten years: 4.5
Tampa Bay win average past ten years:5.5

I would say we are The Cleveland Browns of the South. But Cleveland has a much better team now.

  23. Marine Buc Says:

How freaking sad is that folks?

  24. Marine Buc Says:

Hey Joe – you may want to delete my last two messages. It’s getting a little too real up in here…

  25. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Blame Licht for JPP’s carelessness……..you can blame Licht for many things but not for that…

  26. BetterBucFan Says:

Well we can stock up on WRs in the next draft for when Chris Godwin eventually leaves Tampa for cooler climates.

  27. admin Says:

How good is this new guy Devin White ?

Based on how the Bucs talk about him, he’s Deacon Jones, Jack Lambert and Ronnie Lott all rolled into one.

  28. Lord Cornelius Says:

Thank god Jason Licht has listened to the fan base and prioritized trench warfare talent & depth over skill players & secondary in how this team was built….

No excuses for not having depth or counting on band-aid old players to get by

  29. SCBucsFan Says:

This team is cursed. After all how can you account for one team having this many morons follow it.

  30. wideleftandright Says:

Ed Oliver and Josh Allen are looking pretty good right about now ..

  31. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I will say this….if there’s one player out there that could play with a broken neck….it just might be JPP…..

  32. Isaac haggins Says:

    Jpp May be cut soon

  33. Tom S. Says:

    Joe,

Any idea when the next statement about Jason Licht being fired will come? It will probably be late December but I reaaaalllly don’t want to wait that long 😥

  34. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Tom

Agreed. Licht and Dominik have ruined this franchise for ten years.

  35. Marine Buc Says:

The Glazers are also clueless schmucks.

  36. Marine Buc Says:

Move the team to London and get it over with!

  37. SOEbuc Says:

I was excited with fourth round Iowa DE Anthony Nelson. Dude’s a beast. The 6-foot-7, 271 pound defensive end had 45 tackles, 13.5 TFLs and 9.5 sacks before forgoing his senior season.

How sweet would it be if he became a rookie superstar!

  38. Greg Says:

It breaks my heart but I just HATE this team! Light is incompetent at building a team. Our QB cant stop writing checks for being a scumbag, we are thin at o-line and d-line. We dont draft the right people and get burned in free agency. A child playing Maddens would be better. Our coach already retired once and is a short timer. His only purpose here is to take us from 5-11 to 7-9 so they can all act like they know what they are doing. Our GM cant wait to find any excuse to re-sign the dirt bag QB to a franchise killing contract to save his own skin. Then the coach will retire and we will be 4-12 for the next 5 years.

  39. Bruce Blahak Says:

Since we’re like an expansion team on defense, I’m reminded of our terrific 1977 defense that played basically without an offense all year. Offering hope with this cause they were extremely young. Starters = 2 rookies at OLB, 4 second year players, 4 third year players and a senior member at the age of 27. Looks like the 2019 Bucs will be similar in experience, only problem is we don’t have the Selmon brothers lol

  40. Defense Rules Says:

Sometimes I wonder if certain JBFers read what they write BEFORE they send it (me included sometimes). At the present moment we know VIRTUALLY NOTHING about JPP’s condition or situation. ZIP, ZERO, ZILCH … NADA.

So WHY are so many not just JUMPING to conclusions, LEAPING to conclusions. “JPP may be cut soon?” (Evidence?). “JPP might be done in Tampa”? (So might every other player on the Bucs for that matter). “if JPP is done…then so is McCoy”? (Uhh, might work EXACTLY the other way around in actuality).

Two hit it right on the head IMO:
@Tbbucs3 … “That marks 2 Jason Licht statements on this matter that both say absolutely nothing.”
@Lord C … “No excuses for not having depth or counting on band-aid old players to get by.”

Every time I see a ‘report'(?) like this I think of Sgt Schultz’s common response on ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ … “I know NOTHING”. That’s Jason Licht in a nutshell. He’s not gonna tell any of us ANYTHING that might cast doubt on his abilities as our GM. Of course, by saying nothing that’s EXACTLY what he does … cast doubts about his abilities as a GM.

I for one HOPE that JPP is OK. He’s a class act & obviously one tough cookie, but leaving the hospital so quickly without a full battery of tests (scans, etc) PROBABLY wasn’t the best thing to do, especially when he has mega-millions on the line. But IF he ends up needing surgery, I’ll be praying that the surgery goes well & that his recovery is swift & complete. Getting back to 100% is a LOT more important than getting another 12 sacks.

  41. D-Rome Says:

Another 5-11 season under the Backstabbin’ Jason Licht reign of terror.

  42. Lord Cornelius Says:

Glazers are #1 to blame over anyone.

They hired these clown GMs and coaches and they’re the one’s who have had no vision on building teams or getting the right personnel.

DEAR GLAZERS PLEASE HIRE THE POSTER KNOWN AS LUVMYBUCS TO RUN THE TEAM. I GUARANTEE YOU WE WOULD SEE MUCH BETTER RESULTS. THE ANSWERS ON WHAT WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOING HAVE BEEN CLEAR AS DAY BEING WRITTEN IN THE COMMENTS SECTION OF THIS SITE FOR YEARS. EVERY FAILED DECISIONS WE WERE HERE TELLING YOU TO DO THE OPPOSITE THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME.

    LUVMYBUCS suggestions/talent evaluation consistently >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

than the entire organization that we miserable people follow and give tons of $$ to.

I’m not even a huge football junkie that played or anything. I just like the sport a lot and I’m pretty sure I could do a lot better job even though my background is in finance/music lol.

That’s freaking insane and so sad.

  63. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

It’s not JPP. It’s not the accidents.

It’s Dunce Cap NOT Building this team in the proper way a competent GM would have in the last 5 years so we could sustain an injury or two.

    NO DEPTH.
    NO LINES.

Think about it. 5 years to build depth on the OL & DL and what has he done?
    I’ll tell you.

    A PISS POOR JOB.

  64. TBUC North Carolina Says:

No doubt it’s not Meatheads fault on JPP’s accident!!! But as has been said over and over, he is SO WAY over his head on being a GM!! U know other GM’s in this league think he is a chump!! Can’t draft worth a Damn!! Sucks at Free Agency!! Sucks at trades!! Can’t judge talent!! Has no depth on D-line!! Crappy O-line!! By far crappiest stable of Running Backs!! His decision making is beyond horrendous!! How in the Hell he got a GM job is truly amazing!!!

  65. Chris Simms 2020 GM Says:

    A Gumpster fire!

  66. Bucsfanman Says:

See. These reactions are a result of being a down-trodden fanbase. It’s not unexpected!
JPP is ONE player, a good player, but just ONE guy. IF he’s out, it’s next man up, plain and simple. We may not like it, it may be a downgrade, but life goes on people. Injuries are an EXPECTED aspect of football. EVERY year, marquee players get hurt.
On a team trying to rebound from horrificness (yea, I made that up!), it is especially disappointing.
The only people “responsible” for losing JPP, IF that happens, is JPP and his passenger. I’m sure that on draft day Licht did NOT have a contingency plan for losing a starting DE to an automobile accident.
The T-E-A-M is bigger than one player, always has been. Next man up. It’s THAT simple!

  67. BucEmUp Says:

Id be careful to not pull tge trigger on any decisions with jpp too quickly. Seems like ge was pretty tight with GMC and he may have released a rumor about being season ending just to get away from the bucs because the McCoy situation has bren so poorly handled.

Be careful!!!!! I CAN SEE JPP PLAYING SOMEWHERE ELSE WHEN HE WAS ALLEGEDLY HURT JUST LIKR SWEEZY

  68. doctor_berto Says:

Bucsfanman, youre right, it is that simple. Too bad the offensive and defensive line depth is terrible and thats what people are bitching about. They didnt expect someone to get injured on either line?

  69. lowercaseg Says:

    wowwwwwww.

  70. Bucsfanman Says:

Lord Cornelius- I have to concur. There are many posters who I enjoy reading, too many to list. When it comes to personnel, LUV is easily my favorite.

LUV for GM in 2020! Make it happen!

  71. Bucsfanman Says:

Berto- No doubt! Unfortunately it’s the reality of the state the Bucs are in. Poor decisions in FA and the draft will continue to haunt this team.

  72. Hodad Says:

The statement should be, I never should’ve traded four an ageing 6 finger DE who can’t be bothered to show up for his team, and new staff to work out. I hung on to McCoy to long, and now he has a crazy cap hit, and no trade value. I should’ve picked more D linemen in a draft loaded with them, but I kept drafting DB’s because I can’t draft a good one. How I kept my job is beyond me, but trust me, I’ll keep trying my best, even tho I have no clue how to build a roster. All that really matters tho, is they’re still paying me big money! Can you believe it? The Glazers are the best owners to work for, because they know less then I do about football.

  73. unbelievable Says:

GOOD THING WE DIDNT WASTE A PREMIUM PICK ON A DEFENSIVE END!!!

    Right? Rightttttttt?

  74. Shane247 Says:

I predict, they will request a NFI designation (Non-Football Injury). In which case they will owe him nothing. Maybe they’ll come to an agreement and he’ll remain a buc for a negotiated amount, but we’ll have 14.9mil to find a replacement. (Suh, Ansah?)

  75. Pit of Misery Says:

If I were Ronde, I would have Tiki show up in my place to be inducted in to the ROH for this dumpster fire of a franchise.

  76. tmaxcon Says:

You people simply just dont get it licht is doing exactly what glazers want him to do in order to keep the basement title streak alive. Glazers have trained low standard bucfan well…

  77. NOSBOS Says:

813 what you said on the other thread is precisely what’s happening. A “youth movement”. And they clearly don’t want too many old heads in the way. Remember the Belichess formula, better to cut them a year early than a year too late. New Dawn in the Bay man.

  78. JimmyJack Says:

I still think Bruce is skilled enough to rally his troops and get past this little hiccup.

His boy Licht has got our backs don’t worry. He’ll get us some passrusherss help before TC. You butter believe it!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  79. NOSBOS Says:

This Is A Publicity Stunt.. He nor 93 were in the plans for next season.

  80. Jeff Says:

Check the cell phone, prove negligence, cut and save the money.

  81. JimmyJack Says:

He destroyed a 6 figure vechicle as a publicity stunt?

Good luck pushing that conpriracy theory bro.

  82. JimmyJack Says:

I do believe McCoy was never in the plans though. I bet that was agreed on before Bruce signed his contract.

  83. Eric Says:

On the other hand, he was on the squad last year that was horrible.

Other teams find hidden talent and fight on.

35tds from Jameis is the cure. Its a no defense league anyhow.

  84. Jarhead Says:

  87. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Reading the comments I had no idea there were this many stupid people that “support” the Bucs. Every day you learn something new.

  88. AwShbucs Says:

Normally if Schefter is reporting it, it’s true. Now the nature of the report lends itself to speculation on whether JPP will actually need the surgery and how long it actually puts him out for is unknown as well.

Welp. All I can say is you reap what you sow. For as much as I like the addition of Mike Edward’s to our Safety corps. Jaylon Fergus was there to be taken with our original 3rd round pick. He would have been extremely useful even with JPP on the team, without JPP he could have shined here like he is going to for Baltimore.

Now our best Pass rusher is Carl Nassib, who while being a nice Pick up off the streets and has a lot of potential, still only had 6.5 sacks last year. God willing Anthony Nelson and Noah Spence will both have break out 8+ sack seasons along with Carl. Or else I fear we may see 2017 levels of pressure on the QB. Which is a scary scary thought.

    Go Bucs…

  89. Todd Says:

    @SC

Unpack your comment. What did you mean by it? Expound please.

  90. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist - City of St Pete (formerly known as 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans) Says:

Now we have to pay JPP’s salary this year for zero production; when we already were behind the 8-ball on the salary cap….

    Tough scenario, Buc Fans

  91. Pit of Misery Says:

Been a long time follower of this site and very rarely comment. Been a season ticket holder since day 1 and even before ( old UT days). I NEVER thought we would have such poor ownership as Culverhouse. I was wrong. The Glazer boys have no clue how to run a franchise. They hire GM’s with as little
knowledge as they do. Vets come in for 1-2 years and retire. Younger players are drafted and are out In the street after their contracts are up ( for the most part). IMHO, we need new, EXPERIENCED leadership at the top. People that understand what a franchise means to the City. The more competitive we are, the more $$ Ownership makes. The way this Ownership handles this franchise, the more I feel OUR TEAM is nothing more than an “object” they can manipulate to their liking. NOS, LUV, Kobe, Jaboo, Lord Corn, Marine Buc ( thank U for your service, sir), 813, Pablo ( wherever and whoever U are) and Joe. I thoroughly enjoy your posts. Thanks you for allowing me to rant. Time for an adult beverage.

  93. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

I was thinking the other day…when the Bucs tried to interview Chris Ballard ( Colts new, successful GM )…he took a hard pass…and they settled for Steve Keim’s drinkin’ buddy Jason “Let There Be” Licht. Five years later, a .3375 winning percentage, a roster thin on talent yet over the salary cap ( not easy to do! )…this can’t go on beyond 2019 can it? Can it?!

  94. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Todd, just scroll up and read, it’s all the evidence one needs. How many people actually have concern for JPP and his injury? Nah, there are more who think he broke us neck intentionally to not play in a 3-4.

  95. JimmyJack Says:

Jonathan…..You forgot my personal favorite. Dunce Cap.

If the Bucs win this year does that mean Licht is not a dumbass?

Nobody’s ever answered this so I guess I’ll have to wait and see what the JBF commenters say after it happens. JBF comments dictate the way I think and feel about Our Buccaneers.

  96. JimmyJack Says:

SC……I don’t care about JPPs well being. Not one bit. If he cannot play for my Bucs he is all but dead to me.

Does this make me a bad fan?

  97. Todd Says:

    @SC

Oh good Lord, give me a quote of saying that specifically. I broke my neck in high school football which negated a scholarship from Hayden Fry to the Iowa Hawkeye…so I empathize with the injury.

And nobody…NOBODY…intentionally wakes up in the morning wanting to break their neck to NOT play 3-4.

If some idiot said as much, call them out specifically (no, I’m not going to go read every comment like a lap dog). If they didn’t, don’t propagate they did. Please.

So which is it? Either point to the idiot or concede you’re manufacturing history for some odd reason. If it’s the former, I stand down. If the latter, own it.

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  99. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Go read NOSBOS comments. It’s there.

And JJ it doesn’t make a bad fan, it makes you a bad person if you don’t care about players getting injured.

  100. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    I have concern for anyone’s health…..

It seems to me that we should have a definitive explanation on the cap issues and Buc’s options by now….

Can we cut him and save on the cap….or not? If so, how much.

Joe, can we not find this out….is it really that complicated?

  101. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

Hilarious that people think Licht can predict his players getting in car crashes.

  102. Buc4evr Says:

I agree with jimmy jack. If a player is stupid enough to risk a $14.9M payday and hurt the fans and his team mates he needs to be unloaded. No IR for JPP, first he blows part of his hand off then he gets in a wreck at 5am. Sounds like the guy isn’t very smart. Time to move on and salvage whatever cap we can. Fans are tired of ass clown players that don’t care and an ownership that puts up with this nonsense. If JPP can’t play, cut him.

  103. JimmyJack Says:

If JPP can play this year for the Bucs then I care about his health.

If not his time here will be basically worthless and his existence will be as well.

  104. Destinjohnny Says:

Should be epic watching the worst secondary in football try and cover for 3 minutes

  105. Todd Says:

    @SC

Okay, I wasted my time and went through the entire thread to read NOSBOS.

Nowhere did I read JPP intentionally broke his neck to NOT play 3-4.

So why do you purport such nonsense? What is to gain? Do you think you can just cast false aspersions without someone actually asking you to back them up?

I just don’t get what your perceived gain of infusing falsities is?

If you make a claim, God bless America. Back it up.

If you can’t, know there are those like me who will hold you accountable.

And if I may…I “think” your initial comment came from a good place. I “think” you were judging there are those in here who don’t give a crap about JPP’s very real and unfortunate injury.

I think you’re right. My issue is with the blanket statement of others commenting that he intentionally broke his neck as to NOT have to play 3-4.

That blanket statement could have included me, which I didn’t appreciate.

That’s the only reason for my push back. We need to keep comments on comments truthful.

why should we have concern for jpp well being when his actions prove he clearly has no concern for his own welfare… You Political Correct Losers are a freaking joke…. This moron time and time again makes bad choices… People are responsible for their own choices and actions…

    Todd

You either pee standing up or sitting down I don’t give a rats ARSE what the freaks identify themselves as… this pansy arse gender neutral society is a pathetic and weak.

  110. NOSBOS Says:

I had been wondering JPP’s absence all the while. All accounts from last season, consummate professional. My curiosities are no more. I now get.

  111. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There are those who want to excuse JPP of carelessness or negligence……No, we don’t all the facts….but it was a one-car accident and he was driving.

He wasn’t cited so that means it wasn’t DUI or reckless driving…..and there could be some mitigating factors like trying to avoid a pedestrian….

However, in most cases the driver is either driving too fast for conditions or wasn’t paying proper attention.

We may never know because the only likely witness was the passenger….

Now, if the passenger was injured, all bets are off!!!

  120. Bob in Valrico Says:

Since it already been predicted that the defense will only be in 3-4 35% of the time, that leaves a hell lot of snaps for any disgruntled DT or DE in my book. Personally don’t think JPP would take it that far. Lets face it he came back and wore a club to play against the odds. Good luck JPP with any medical challenges
you may face. Be smart and don’t take a chance of further injury.

  121. Bob in Valrico Says:

Here’s a Chris Simms story ,I heard on Pro Football Talk :
The Bucs were playing Carolina with Simms at QB and Kuekely at MLB. In the course of the game he would call an audible,Kuekly would adust the defense to the right defense for the audible. Simms went on to say that there wasn’t any time left to change the call. So he gets together with Gruden and tells him that Kuekly knew the audibles. So they installed some fake audibles for Kuekly and they adjusted just like the previous meeting. Simms went on to say that they threw a twenty yard yard screen to Pittman.on one of them. He also said that the cameras rolling on hard knocks give teams opportunities to steal other teams signals.
