Report: McCoy Heading For Charlotte Tomorrow

May 29th, 2019

The Gerald McCoy World Tour kicked off in Cleveland, moved to Baltimore and now will head south to Panthers country.

Carolina beat writer Jourdan Rodrigue of the Charlotte Observer explained in a fresh story this evening that the six-time Pro Bowler has been a target of the Panthers for a while and will arrive tomorrow for a two-day visit.

Carolina has some salary cap wiggle-room becoming available in just a few days — though that number might still be a little high.

Because they designated former left tackle Matt Kalil as a post-June 1 cut, the Panthers will have an extra $7.5 million in cap space — giving them about $16 million in cap space that could feasibly be directed toward McCoy.

Kawaan Short, newly-acquired Dontari Poe and Gerald McCoy? Now that would be the feared defensive line threesome in the NFC South.

Poe scored $12 million for 2019 in free agency back in March. But he’ll earn just $6 million if he’s there in 2020.

What will McCoy demand? Joe has to think McCoy would adore a crack at the Bucs twice in the first six games of this season. Also, Joe is wondering why, on the surface, it seems the Panthers weren’t interested in Ndamukong Suh.

  1. Buc believer Says:

If Batman was such a good solid player and the Bucs were so foolish to let the softest player in team history go why hasn’t she (oops my bad…not really) signed with anyone yet?

  2. Elita Vita Says:

Perhaps Buc believer he’s weighing his options.

  3. Lamarcus Says:

Man I hope CAR signs him. That’s an automatic 2 Wins.

  4. ElioT Says:

Please football gods, let the Panthers sign McCoy.

  5. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

McCoy wants 10 million and will keep visiting teams until he finds a team who will give it to him

It’s not about winning for him it’s about making the $$$

If it was about winning he’d have signed with the Browns they are stacked on d

Baltimore runs a 3-4 and he’d be out of place in that scheme just like he was here

  6. Elita Vita Says:

If McCoy is wanting to find a super bowl bound team AND stick it twice to the Bucs this year he need not look farther than the New Orleans Saints.

  7. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Hopefully his softness rubs off on the Panthers d

  8. DB55 Says:

He going to be a back-up to Kawaan Short? Oh yea they’re moving to a 3-4 so he’s going to be a back-up to Short and Addison.

This is all a media parade, this child is signing with the Saints for 3 mil a year talking ’bout “I wanted to play with my friend and chase a championship”.

What a loser!!! (In comparison to his peers not me of course)

  9. Eric y Says:

Joe your boy wants to get his 13 million … it ain’t happening

  10. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

McCoy will be lucky to get 8 million. The signing of Suh by us set the price for him.
Suh is better then he is, and more reliable, and got 9.25 million + Incentives that can equal 10 million.
Quick – Tell me why McCoy is worth as much or more as Suh ?

  11. DB55 Says:

I think the browns and Ravens laughed McIceCream out of town.

They said “you want how much?” Wait let me run your tape and you explain to me why your worth more than 2.5 mil.”

  12. Snook Says:

“McCoy wants 10 million and will keep visiting teams until he finds a team who will give it to him

It’s not about winning for him it’s about making the $$$”

EXACTLY. Gerald plays for the love of the money. Panthers are doing his agent a favor. They’re not interested. They know what he is.

  13. Howard Cosell Says:

I imagine the Browns GM and staff eating ice cream sandwiches during the interview…..mmmmm….

  14. NOSBOS Says:

What 55 last said. My God how I would love for him end up with a division rival.

  15. Howard Cosell Says:

You never know though….McCoy may likely dominate on a good team with a good culture…..never underestimate the Bucs ability to field a bad team.

I’m hoping t-max is right but there’s no guarantee….we’ll see

  16. Buc believer Says:

Oh yeah Velita THATS it she is weighing her options…. seems more like nobody wants her.

  17. RTG Bucs Says:

Howard, thanks for the laugh! That is a hilarious thought!

  18. Jeffbuc Says:

Howard lol after 9 years he is suddenly going to dominate. He hasn’t dominated a single quarter in 9 years. And you think he will sign with the panthers and suddenly dominate. If any coach or gm in the league thought he could dominate. They would have sent at least a 3rd round pick for a dominating dt to ensure they get him. The lack of anyone wanting to trade anything for him shows you all you need to know.

  19. Mike Johnson Says:

Must be quite nice for GMC. Its rumored Carolina. Ravens and Browns are bidding for his services. LMAO. Somebody here said if GMC goes to Carolina thats an automatic 2 wins for us. Bucs? Automatic wins? Man please hit me up with your supplier. You smokin some…Nostradamus stuff.

  20. Tbbucs3 Says:

I hope McFlurry goes to the Panthers. “Oops sorry Jameis”

  21. Durango 95 Says:

No time for McCoy updates; Batman marathon on Netflix.

  22. Lamarcus Says:

    Mike Johnson

Every game there was an offensive player going against GMC and his lead defenses there was someone either getting a career high or a NFL record. Even Trubisky had 6 tds on us. So yeah we go against GMC…Rojo will have 150 3 TDS just running his way. We play GMC we eating Ws

  23. DBS Says:

db55. Shall I go back and bring up your expert talent evaluation?. It was you who thought. McCoy would make an excellent DE.

  24. DooshLaRue Says:

    Oh my….. poor, poor Softie.
    He’ll get 8 million if he’s lucky.

Maybe Dougieballs can call him and make him feel all better.

  25. DBS Says:

Don’t forget how long Suh was unemployed. And how many teams did he vist before we got hard up as usual and took him on.

  26. Waterboy Says:

I either read or heard on a podcast that Suh was still available because he refused to accept any offers below 10 mil. So it’s not that he was unwanted, he was just unwanted at the price he was seeking.

  27. DB55 Says:

db55. Shall I go back and bring up your expert talent evaluation?. It was you who thought. McCoy would make an excellent DE.
    ———-
    Yea but wtfdik 🤣

  28. ElioT Says:

GMC: “What is the policy here regarding dancing on the sidelines while losing games and can I bring my action figures into the locker room?”

    GM: No…

  29. DB55 Says:

There’s no way he starts in Carolina. Over who?

  30. DeeNICE07 Says:

Why we talkin about this dude anyways, Avengers over like his is. THE ENd

  31. Bucsace Says:

Do any of these prospective suitors believe in watching in watching video tape? If they did, they would save themselves a ton of money! But don’t forget about his 6 Pro Bowls……LOL !!!!

  32. Race to 10 Says:

Back up in Carolina and it ain’t no automatic two wins. Basically we’ll be able to run right at him the entire game, even rojo will have a career game. He’s going to pull a Brett Favre, if he’s smart at least go to the saints but either way he’s soft and we’ll get to see first hand how much of a game wrecker he is not

  33. DB55 Says:

    Race

Maybe we let Benonch “block” him so he can get 3 sacks, that way the McIceCream fans can feel good about their football wisdom

  34. Jameis Almighty! Says:

$10 million well spent to the team that signs him. Class act and a great player. Best wishes GMC!

  35. Todd Says:

    Re: McCoy

Who cares?! POOF, be gone. Suh-MAN-UP!

  36. LocalJoker Says:

These trips are not about football. These are ego trips.

  37. westernbuc Says:

Suh sat on the market, no interest. GMC is being courted by the league.

How does licht still have a job?

  38. adam from ny Says:

GMC in the meetings with other teams:

    gmc:

“hi i need 10 milly you mofos”

    other team’s gm:

“you are worth 3 mil werald mctoy”

    gmcs response:

“hold up, i agree…i’m only worth 3 mil, but the house i rent is going to need a refurbished basement, a.k.a. the “batcave”…and i have to rent a batmobile to go with it…that’s gonna cost you mofo’s 7 extra milly”

    other gm:

right across the street is an all you can eat chinese buffet…with the greatest soft serve ice cream in town, how do you feel about that gerald” ?

gmc: “fugg it…where do i sign…you had me at hello”

  39. adam from ny Says:

    gerald’s new motto:

    “they had me at hello”

  40. Bucsfanman Says:

I gotta admit, I only came here for the comments and as usual you didn’t disappoint! LMAO!
I do take umbrage to the guaranteed wins statement though. We have to become a consistent winning football team before we can start counting wins. With or without GMC!

  41. Anglican Says:

Will on the good side of it if he goes to Carolina. Even Ronald Jones can hit that hole and rack up yardage up the middle. So he can pad his stats

  42. Allbuccedup Says:

He don’t care about going to the playoffs or he would have signed with baltimore. Hes going to the highest bidder. If carolina said 10 mil he would sign today.

  43. Reach87 Says:

The sophomoric shade you fools cast on a gentleman who played a game better than you ever could imagine, for fair wages you would probably do anything for, at Pro bowl level for more years than you can stand, with a level of class you cannot stomach is borderline ridiculous. Went from sad to hilarious and the rabidity reflects on you… not him. School is almost out. Hoping some of you graduate such that you act like juniors at a minimum. Most of them realize that calling someone out of their gender, making up trash about them for no real reason, and speaking behind a fake name with false bravado is a punk move. Queue the “we have a right…” morons… Go Bucs!

  44. BringBucsBack Says:

I just don’t see it working in Carolina.

    Scam Newton: Superman!

    McCoy: Batman!

    Scam: Superman!!

    McCoy: Batman!!

    Scam: Superman!!!

    McCoy: Batman!!! etc…

  45. Steve Lee Jr Says:

His ego is getting the best of him. Not worth the $10 mil plus. No team wants to pay that to a player who will not make very much of an impact and will disappear when the game is on the line. Most of his sacks came during garbage time when the Bucs were not capable of winning the game and the opposing offenses eased up.

  46. Cobraboy Says:

And people scoffed at BA when he said McCoy is not the player he used to be…

Seems the entire league knows it.

  47. Mike Johnson Says:

Lamarcus..I’m still waitin on your supplier……

  48. Bucsdelight Says:

Wait, so McCoy visits 2 teams and is visiting a third in just a few weeks and nobody wants him? Yet, Suh was a FA for a few months, but that’s ok? You all are F’n crazy. Either you all are smoking some good stuff or you all are drunk nonstop. The armchair GMs here are in full force with their idiot comments.

  49. stvcl Says:

Seems like teams are interviewing, kicking tires and hoping to get him on the cheap. Hold out Geraldweenie! Maybe you can find a sucker to pay you 8 mil!

  50. Bucsdelight Says:

“The Ravens have sent a clear message, from the top of the organization, that they want to sign free agent defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.

Owner Steve Bisciotti said he hoped McCoy would become a Raven, after the 31-year-old defensive tackle visited the team Tuesday and Wednesday.

“I think that everybody out there has seen what he can do,” Bisciotti said during a conference call with PSL holders Wednesday evening.

“I think he’s a bit of a game-wrecker, and I think in this day and age, you need that kind of pressure on the inside. We’ve got some guys on the edge that are going to have to prove themselves. We’ve got two nose tackles, when you look at (Michael Pierce) and Brandon (Williams). He’s clearly a three technique. He brings something to the table that we don’t have.”” – Baltimore Ravens
