McCoy “Lining Up Visits”

May 23rd, 2019

Drew Brees wants Gerald McCoy

Demand appears strong for the services of fired Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.

And it seems McCoy is gearing up to be wined and dined in various cities as he decides on his next football home.

Yes, this is not the Bucs launching T.J. Ward or Swaggy Baker or Chris Conte. McCoy is a wanted man.

ProFootballTalk.com has been following the action and reports that the Patriots, Colts, Bengals and Browns have a yearning for No. 93, with the Bengals being the newest name. Ousted Bucs defensive coordinator Mark Duffner is a senior advisor on the Bengals’ new staff. Ex-Bucs offensive coordinator Todd Monken, now in the same post with the Browns, recently shared a public blessing of McCoy.

Hall of Fame voter Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk.com says McCoy is expected to be “lining up visits.”

McCoy on the Patriots would be quite spectacle. And the Colts have a heck of a team.

While his offers might never be made public, it’ll be interesting to see whether McCoy goes for the money or the shot at postseason glory. Perhaps he’ll get both wrapped up in one offer.

Joe doesn’t rule out the Saints. Sean Payton and McCoy have a relationship. Drew Brees was just on TV saying he’d like McCoy on their roster. And DT Sheldon Rankins is still battling back from a blown Achilles.

Go for the Ring !…it is priceless….

  3. Earl Bedford Says:

Why do you have a picture of Drew Brees with Josh Freeman? Is/was he suppose to be a part of the article?

  4. Snook Says:

McCoy will go to the highest bidder. That won’t be the Saints or Pats.

  5. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

I dont think McCoy gets anywhere near the 13 mil I bet he gets like 6 million at most

  6. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Why are the Cowboys not mentioned, as a new home for McCoy ?
McCoy grew up and played in Oklahoma, a Cowboy Fan.
They play a 4-3 defense, and could be considered a playoff contender.

  7. DBS Says:

So real contenders want him. Why would anyone think Belicheat would know more than tpax and his tribe.

  8. SCBucsFan Says:

dusty if he was worth 13m then we could have traded him

  9. DB55 Says:

McIceCream wouldn’t last 2 hours in NE doubt he’d even make it to the stadium in his RR bat mobile before he got mugged and carjacked.

And if you think BB is going to pay him anymore than 3 mil per year you got another thing coming. The Patriot motto isn’t do half of your job, sometimes but never in the 4th qrt.

  10. Bruce Blahak Says:

Who cares. Can we take the Arians stance and talk about players that are on the team? This guy is history, move on…

  11. David Says:

Will the McCoy haters hate SUH ?
Since they came in to the nfl-
    Suh has more tackles.(about 120)
    McCoy has 2 more FF
    Suh has 2.5 more sacks
    McCoy has more QB pressures.
Suh has more passes deflected (about 10)

    They have been identical.
The main difference is the number of tackles. Majority of that is because McCoy has played in the system to get upstream and Suh has played more to hold his ground when not pass rushing.

I get that it had to be done because of the money, but let’s not go crazy, it’s not an upgrade.

  12. ATrain Says:

I hear all these teams want him

    SOOOO WHATS TAKING SO LONG

They don’t have to sell a team to a Veteran like MCCOY he knows the league

If all these teams want him then He would be gone

I heard this when we wanted to trade him and NOTHING

    ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS

GMC is a 6-7 million dollar player He wants 13.

    Retire GMC

  13. Bucsneedhelp Says:

Lets talk about players on the team William Gholston not much to say their, Vernon H. hurt all the time , JPP fractured neck, which ROJO is going to show up this year.

  14. Destinjohnny Says:

Hate to lose those 4 sacks he is getting this year…..

  15. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

That pic of Freeman and Brees is hilarious attached to a GMC AKA the Laughing Loser Leader

GMC will get 7-8 million from a bad team and 5-6 with a good team

  16. Defense Rules Says:

Bruce … I agree, “Who cares?” Last I check, McCoy isn’t on the Bucs any longer. I personally hope he finds a good ‘home’ and does well for the rest of his career. I couldn’t care less if he makes $6 mil or $13 mil.

But this seems to be the story of Bucsville … we seem to excel at dwelling on the past instead of looking forward to tomorrow. Great philosophy … for losers. This team is building something that COULD be special for years to come. So many seem unable to enjoy the ride because they’re mired in the past. What a shame.

  17. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

If the Browns don’t win the race to sign McCoy – I bet they wished they would have given us a late round draft pick. He probably could have been had for a 7th rounder.

  18. NOSBOS Says:

Most tackles for lost last five years Aaron Donald.. #2,Ndamukong Suh. This Mo’s.

  19. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

For the McCreamer’s….the only reason McCoy is gone is because of Jason Licht’s double down failures with FA busts creating a Cap Hell….

  20. DBS Says:

1.YOU do DR. You are reading it.
2.If you follow his thinking don’t talk about Suh. He is not on the team.

  21. Todd Says:

Give Suh the number 93 and let’s move on.

  22. Hodad Says:

McCoy will land somewhere, who cares, what’s going on with Suh? Everyone is talking like he’s a Buc, except him, and the Bucs, who aren’t saying anything, and he has yet to sign. So why was there no visits all this time he’s been out there for Suh? Heck, he hasn’t visited with the Bucs, or been near Tampa let a lone sign a contract. Something smells fishy to me. McCoy is gone, we should be focusing on what’s the real story with Suh?

  23. JA Says:

    Defense—

There is no time reference for hating.
It’s ubiquitousness spans all times—past, present and future.
And the gluttons that feed on it have developed an insatiable appetite for its foul taste …
    Sad …

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’ll copy a famous quote….”At this point, what difference does it make?”

  25. D-Rome Says:

Strange how teams weren’t “lining up” to talk to Suh.

  27. Bird Says:

Belicheat can’t be interested. I thought he was worthless ? 😂

Of course he will be in demand. Just not at 13 mil. Curious to see if his number is similar or same as Suh number of around 10 mil

However , he has choice now to play wherever he wants to win title and play for less. Not sure he is there yet in career. Probably wants at least one more pay day. Could be wrong though. Bucs made him a very rich man.
Hope he does not play in nfc south

  28. NOSBOS Says:

2nd only to Donald the last five years. I guess it’s good for the rest of the league he takes a play off here and there.

  29. Bird Says:

    D-Rome

    Exactly
But Suh is mean so that translates to better player apparently
Every team but the Bucs just don’t get that fact

  30. NOSBOS Says:

So basically this man can half@$$ and still be one of the most dominant Dlinemen in all of football. Can’t no one on here tell me ish now that that has been revealed.

  31. SCBucsFan Says:

Alabama not true at all. Even for a 7 they would still have to pay him 13M. As a FA they can offer what they want and he won’t be getting 13.

  32. tmaxcon Says:

So when cancer93 gets a 5 million dollar deal and plays 7 or 8 games with his standard BS 1st qtr production followed by disappearing act when it matters most will you people come back and admit how very wrong you were about cancer93??? Nope probably not!!!

    Best moments in bucs history

    1. Grudens glory year after cleaning up dungy the clown mess

    2. The firing of dungy the clown (should have never been hired)

    3. Sending cancer93 packing and replacing with suh

Bucs have hope for the first time in a decade regardless of the McCoy nuthuggers crying like babies over their failed heroe being kicked out the door

  33. NOSBOS Says:

(Slliiihh) Ooohh I love tackles for lost.

  34. Buc believer Says:

If the demand was so strong Batman would have a team now.

  35. NOSBOS Says:

Tackles for lost puts them behind the chains. Forcing them to pass the football. That will play right into 6 or 7 DBs.

  36. Rayjay1122 Says:

If he goes to the Pats, he can help,Brady up and dust jus butt off daily.

  37. Magadude Says:

Now we know what happened to Josh Freeman: he became Gerald McCoy and ’93 was done after that.

  38. SCBucsFan Says:

TPax let it go. He’s gone. Stop to clinging to your one point and get back to making sandwiches.

  39. Eric Says:

Anybody think Belichick is going to pay Gerald 13 million?

    Or anybody else?

  40. Unimpressed Says:

Lol @ the haters mad that other teams see value in McCoy.

  41. D-Rome Says:

If the demand was so strong Batman would have a team now.

Stop breathing out of your mouth. Don’t be dumb. When a man as a wife and family it takes time to weigh options.

Strange how there was no demand for Suh…..

Lol @ the haters mad that other teams see value in McCoy.

until a team writes him a check for over 10 million you are jumping the gun

cancer93 will fail with his new team just like he failed for nearly a decade on the bucs. he is not a winner. he’s a soft career loser more concerned with cameras and dolls than wins…

he better make a choice soon… suh took is job already, is his wife next????

  44. vikingdand Says:

David Buc may have hit the nail on the head about the Suh vs. McCoy mystery.

“The main difference is the number of tackles. Majority of that is because McCoy has played in the system to get upstream and Suh has played more to hold his ground when not pass rushing.”

Suh likely is just better at controlling the line vs. penetrating the line. In our new defense, controlling the line is going to be important with only 3 down linemen. We don’t need to go all bad on McCoy and all good on Suh. I’m hoping that Suh will be a better fit. I’m worried about his attitude/motivation… he did not have a great regular season for the Rams. I don’t think this change is about the person of McCoy. It’s about scheme, money, and it’s also about a fresh start. I think McCoy needs a different team as much as the Bucs do. I wish the best to McCoy, and hope he makes the Pro Bowl.

    Go Bucs!

  45. #1bucsfan Says:

McCoy got to NE an get you a ring bud nobody cares what haters or non haters say it’s your life

  46. 813bucboi Says:

    someone please take him….then, he’ll be exposed…

    GO BUCS!!!!

No one said Suh was in high demand some just like the pick up

Y’all. (McBatBoys). Screamed everyone wants this future Hall of Famer

PLEASE. If GMC was in SUCH high demand a team would have traded for him at least a 6th round

  49. ATrain Says:

    BATMAN ICE CREAM FOR EVERYONE

  50. Jean Lafitte Says:

If he was “SO” wanted? Why didn’t anyone offer to trade for him? That’s right, they didn’t want him for $13 mil. So instead of offering the Bucs a restructured discount he will undoubtedly make way less anyway. This is on GMC and I feel we got more value in Suh anyway.

  51. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If I were him I would sign with the Pats no matter what they offered. Get two rings with them and he’d probably become a HoF candidate.

  52. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Jean Lafitte Says
“If he was “SO” wanted? Why didn’t anyone offer to trade for him? That’s right, they didn’t want him for $13 mil…”

It would have been $13m plus draft capital.

But the simple truth is this: there are some teams, like the pats, who do not need to offer $13m. They have more to offer outside of the money. McCoy is at the age when he is thinking more of legacy.

The Bucs NEVER asked him to restructure, so he did not refuse to do it.

He decided it was time to move on, and the Bucs waited to release him in the hopes of getting something for him. He stayed the course because he wanted to choose where he went…because of legacy.

  53. Jean Lafitte Says:

So, being replaced by the guy you’ve been compared to since you were drafted, how’s that for legacy?

  54. joestang Says:

I always thought the Pats would take GMC for 1 year and dump him.

  55. T REX Says:

He has Saints written all over him.

  56. stvcl Says:

    Ex-Buc…don’t care!

  57. Anthony Dickson Says:

P.F.T. host Mike Florio also brought up the point that the teams being named are thrown out there as possible GMC suitors, could be a ploy by McCoy’s agents to drive up the interest and pay for his services.

  58. Mike Johnson Says:

My poor fellow Buc fans. Ever wonder why…Suh was not finding any suitors for his services after LA? No..you don’t wonder because you got them visors on. You will see though..come game season time. I got GMC in Pat or Brown country real soon. Must be kinda nice to have 7 or 8 teams vying for your services.

  59. Jean Lafitte Says:

seriously? …who cares? He was worth the money at one time but not now. We need relief. The Buc’s have made him a multi-millionaire so you’d think he’d volunteer to give the Bucs a discount. But NO …Gerald has something else to prove but one thing he refuses to accept is that he has been regressing fast and Father time has caught up. He’s also made it clear he would never cross train across the DL. Thanks for the memories GMC. Now, all I’m wondering is if Suh will get GMC’s number.

Oh, spit. Now you’ve done it. The world will never be the same again!

  61. stpetebucsfan Says:

The Saints are infamous…lost a coach for awhile because of being “dirty” enough to place bounties for injuries to opponents.

That doesn’t seem like a fit for GMC if you believe posters here.

I’m with Bonzai…NE is his best bet. Money is no longer the driving force…go for the ring…NE gives him his best shot.
