Jameis Gives A “My Huddle” Speech

May 2nd, 2019

Coach shares a story

Buccaneers assistant head coach Harold Goodwin, also the team’s offensive line guru, talked to media today and Joe had one question that strayed from Goodwin’s chatter about all things running game and O-line.

Joe asked Goodwin for his impressions of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, after a full month around the franchise QB. His response to Joe’s question was an instant, full smile.

Even better, Goodwin had a Jameis story from behind the curtain at One Buc Palace.

It seems Jameis got fired up with the offense at practice recently.

“Good leader. Very bossy leader,” Goodwin said of Jameis. “We had a deal last week where he basically let everybody in the huddle know, ‘I’m in charge.’ And he came to me after practice and apologized. I was like, ‘Bro, I thoroughly enjoyed watching that.’ He told the guys, ‘This is my huddle; everybody shut the hell up and listen to what I say.’ I like that.”

Goodwin said he couldn’t elaborate more on what sparked Jameis. He just said somebody thought something was said.

Joe loves all kinds of behind-the-scenes nuggets from the assistant coaches. Commanding the huddle now will lead to commanding the huddle later. Joe’s all for it.

    Whatever, JAMEIS LOSETON!

    21-33

All the “getting fired up” and “I got your back.. I got your back..” and “who else wants eat a W?” and…

…I’ve learned from my mistakes this time it will be different…

…I’m ready to play up to my potential…

    …NOW it’s going to be a new Winston…

    ENOUGH OF THE EXCUSES!

Jameis Winston is NOT a good NFL QB. He’s just not. He’s too inconsistent and makes bad decisions and is not an NFL WINNER.

Jameis Winston needs to just keep his mouth shut and prove once and for in all, in his 5TH NFL SEASON CHANCE (that many don’t even get) that he can WIN football games consistently.

This guy has been OVERRATED from the get-go.

  2. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Yeah…all that is well and good Jameis
    I’ll stop there

  3. BringBucsBack Says:

Fine, as long as he “commands” his “handsy” work, footwork, decision-making, accuracy, emotions etc. There have been thousands of bossy bosses that didn’t shake out. Success requires more than an attitude. He has to do his job!

As I’ve said many times, “if one is great and/ or a leader, he shouldn’t have to say it”.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Jameis is not the problem……give him a running game and just an average defense and he will win games…..

It is easy to blame the QB or give praise…..but the losing has been team losses.

I really like this set of coaches…..

  5. 813bucboi Says:

    sounds good….

    @bandit

tell us how you really feel…..lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  6. lurker Says:

jameis is a big reasin for the losses.

blame the team for his suspension?
blame the team on his interceptions and poor reads?
blame the team on missing deep passes?
blame the team on his pushing a coach to attack a player?

    ummmm no. last chance.

  8. Jeff Says:

Nice job Winston. Prove the haters wrong. You’ve been poorly coached since you came to the NFL. JW will be back at a pro bowl level. Won’t matter though if the Bucs defense continues to blow chunks. That’s why JW’s record is so bad. The god awful defenses that Loser Lovie and clueless mike smith made so famous. Tom Brady would go .500 with that sh*t D.

  9. lurker Says:

    via greg auman:

Bucs QBs coach Clyde Christensen says many of Jameis Winston’s interceptions were due to accuracy issues and not poor decision-making, so improving that is a priority.

i guess i was wrong and right above, according to the professional.

  10. lurker Says:

man, the bucs have a lot of coaches.

  11. Bucko40 Says:

The Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. The Bucs have been doing this for 4+ years with Jameis Winston. The Winston supporters blame the OL or the Running game. If that’s so then where are the upgrades at OL or RB that make you optimistic about this upcoming season? the Bucs offense last year ranked 5th overall. But if you take away the four 400+ yard games attributed to Ryan Fitzpatrick then this offense was middle of the road under Winston’s guidance.

If you walk into a huddle as a QB and have to tell the players it’s your huddle then it’s not your huddle to command. Winston can talk the talk but he can’t walk the walk. Deep down players don’t respect Winston and don’t feel they will win with him. There is a different energy when he’s on the field. One more season hopefully and we will be rid of Jameis.

  12. wideleftandright Says:

    Bucs Bandit;,
They call football a team sport for a reason.Do you not read the other articles about the o-line .No edge rush ,no cbs.
    Cmon dude ,think !

  13. The Buc Realist Says:

LOL!!!!! The fifth year starter and first overall pick is trying to “Restablish” his leadership!!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder how many in that huddle were rolling their eyes!!!!!!!

Of course coach was impressed!!!!! He was fired in 2017 and sat on his couch all of 2018!!!!!!!!!!! He is impressed he is employed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

at least jw3 was exposed of what he is not last year, so I don’t even know why the author is tying to push a narrative of ” he is some great leader” that is clearly false!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Big Stinky Says:

    @Tampabaybucfan

What are you smoking? Pass it over here so maybe I feel the same way. JW3 is the MAIN reason we missed the Playoffs in 2016. If he didn’t throw so many INT’s at the beginning of the year we would have won at LEAST one more game, which would have got us in. Just keep telling yourself that it’s the defense and ignoring the facts. In 2017 we lost 4 games by 3 points and 3 more by 6 points or less, and in 5 of those games Jameis couldn’t score more than 21 points with the BEST receiving corps in the NFL. That’s 2 years in a row that HE, himself, kept us out of the Playoffs. He has had 76 turnovers in his 4 years here and only 88 TD’s. Monte Kiffins defense is the only one that might be able to make up for ALL his mistakes. Don’t expect the run game to be much better this year either. Our OL gets pushed in the backfield most of the time because they are just NOT good run blockers, maybe not strong enough to get that push they need. We should have took a chance and got Drew Lock in the 2nd round this year, at least he had 72 TD’s and only 21 INT’s. Then our defense might stand a chance!

Next time try and pack more negativity into your posts. I can’t tell how you feel.

So easy to tell who actually watches the games and understands football.

  17. ncbucsfan Says:

Idgaf what y’all saying……Jameis is going to the Pro Bowl this year and MY Bucs are winning the division….PERIOD!!!

  18. ben Says:

Winston is the worst qb in our own division and rated way below average by the nfl . Not worth the 1st pick in the draft ….at least so far

  19. pelbuc Says:

Please spare me the JW Rah Rah myth. The guy’s so brittle he couldn’t deal with following Fitz’s success and having another competent QB on the roster. Going into his 5th year and we still think he’s just gonnna have some type of epiphany and all of a sudden become a good QB. Bucs should have selected Will Grier in the 3d round.

  20. Dapostman Says:

Read an article from Thomas Bassinger that stated of the 58 interceptions thrown by Winston 41 came when the Bucs were losing. That was five times more than when the Bucs were winning. I’m sure even you Einstein Winston haters can figure out that number. X x 5 = 41.

  21. BucsBall80 Says:

Good stuff Joe’s. I think Jamie’s has learned alot since being drafted. We will see a much improved team next year. Coaching has been a problem here for a long time. Plus we havent had the greatest talent on the roster. Im excited to see what player’s get better with some new coaching. Im happy Winstons staying. I love to hear people whine about him. Its funny to me because he’s not going no where. If you dont like watching him play. To bad. I hope his here for 10 more years.

  22. OneBuc55 Says:

Cry me a river…Just the mention of Jamie’s name brings out the whinny haters…

Is Winston perfect, of course not…Is he as bad as he’s portrayed? Of course not…Nobody on the field wants to win more than him…Imo he’s gotten alot more blame for the loses than he deserves…look at the coaches he had so far…If anything the coaches, the lack of defense, kicking game, and a consistent running game has let this team down much more than Jameis by far…

  23. Big Stinky Says:

Sorry, I meant to say that Drew Lock had 72 TD’s and 21 INT’s his last 2 years in college. So, even his new QB coach thinks he has accuracy issues and thinks he can change that? Good luck Clyde! Jameis has been throwing a football for most of his life and hasn’t gotten any better. Why in the world does Clyde think he is going to change that? Guess he doesn’t think Dirk and our last QB coach have been trying to do that for 4 years now. Accuracy is one thing I don’t think you can fix in a QB for the most part. If it were decision making, and part of it is, I would think they might be able to change that. Throwing into double coverage when there is a guy wide open on the other side of the field is NOT an accuracy problem though.

  24. Bucsfanman Says:

Coaching is not the ONLY variable in players’ success. Coaches coach and players play. Whether you admit it or not, Jameis threw to the wrong jersey many times. That is NOT coaching. That is PLAYER error. Lack of competent coaching is only PART of the problem.
Now, if we can establish a run-game, limit Jameis’ throws and play solid defense, we’ll be alright. If you think we’re going to win many games with Jameis chucking the ball 40 times a game you are sadly mistaken.

  25. Bruce Blahak Says:

@pelbuc…agreed on everything you said. I’ll add that he “works harder than anyone”…That’s been going on since he was drafted and he’s no further ahead. That tells me that he will never get any better….

  26. admin Says:

Read an article from Thomas Bassinger that stated of the 58 interceptions thrown by Winston 41 came when the Bucs were losing.

    Good stuff!

  27. SOEbuc Says:

Why do you people come on here everyday to do nothing but cry???

A good assistant coach said Jameis was taking care of business the correct way in the huddle and yet somehow so many faithless band wagonders find ANY way to cry about Jameis.

Jameis haters. Licht haters. They’re both gonna be here in 2019 so have faith in them and what looks to be a strong coaching staff. #GOBUCS

  28. Rod Munch Says:

The Jameis haters should prove their sincerity by gathering at the top of the Skyway bridge, then holding hands and taking a leap over the edge. This will help bring awareness to their cause.

Please, I beg of you, make it happen.

    God bless.

  29. Defense Rules Says:

I really wish people would stop trying to make excuses for Jameis (and that includes Thomas Bassinger). Jameis is making more $$$ in one GAME than many Americans make in their LIFETIME. I don’t begrudge him any of that money … in the final analysis, football players are entertainers, and entertainers make BIG bucks. BUT … IF an entertainer stops being entertaining, the result is very predictable: people stop caring about them & THE BUSINESS moves on & other entertainers take their place. Weird duck, our free enterprise economy. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

Jameis’ future is in Jameis’ hands, and it always has been. BA & Byron Leftwich & Clyde Christensen can help guide him, but his future is still in his own hands. The players they surround him with can surely impact his productivity, but Jameis’ future is still in his own hands. I for one hope that he has a GRRREAT year, because that’d probably mean that the Bucs also had a GRRREAT year, and that’s what I care about. No way do I want us to spend another 1st Rnd pick on yet another QB next year; we’ve got far too many other holes to fill as it is.

  30. BucAllNight Says:

the Winston supporters KNOW that he’s never had a COMPETENT DEFENSE.

(which is why he’s been down and had to force it with 40-50 throws)

Watch our Defense ATTACK this year and our #1 Passing Offense will continue to thrive.

6 years 140Mil Here we come!!

    Go Bucs!!!

  31. Cgmaster27 Says:

All the trolls, I’m looking at you buck40 and bucs bandit, seem to gather in the Jameis articles. Shocker. Hell be resigned after a great year this year. Cant wait to watch your heads explode when that happens. Find a new team already trolls.

  32. m0j0 Says:

You want your QB to lead in the huddle and hold everyone accountable. Good that he’s setting the tone and getting everyone onboard and in line.

  33. BucsBandit Says:

    Bahahahahahaha!

I love all the Jameis Winston apologists that come out of the woodwork if anyone criticizes their Messiah.

STOP blaming Winston’s poor play on our bad Defense. Sure, the weak D definitely contributes to losses, BUT the Defense has ZERO to do with Winston’s inconsistent, turnover heavy, inaccuracy issues.

Stop blaming the O-Line or the run game. Other teams shutdown our running game because they know Jameis can’t beat them with his passing during the course of an entire game.

Jameis Winston just isn’t that good and someday very soon you Winston worshippers like Rod Munch, Ndog, and others will finally be forced to realize it.

  34. JimmyJack Says:

Winston deserves critism. Nothing wrong with pointing them out.

But when a poster like Buko40 says some crap like he hopes that we will get rid of Winston next year that makes him a piese of spit as a fan. This means he is not rooting for success he is rooting for failure and losing…………don’t care what rebuttal you wanna come back with the verdict is in and you are a garbage fan……..It’s your right but this fanbase would honestly be better off without you.

Please stay off the bandwagon when the Bucs start winning with Bruce at the helm and please crawl back under you rock……..Our fanbase will be stronger without phonies like you who hope for failure.

So you are saying that not only does he throw more pics while he is losing, He does not score early!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. Cgmaster27 Says:

Bucbandit do you even read your own drivel? Stop blaming the line? Tell me a a successful qb with a crap line, I’ll wait. Dont blame the defense? You mean the defense that has averaged a ranking of 30 the last 3 years? Dont blame the running game? You mean the running game that has averaged 29th ranked the last three years? Noone is saying Jameis is prefect, and yes the to’s have to stop l. But trolls like you a buck 40 just completely ignore the fact that the line , defense, and running game have been bottom of the league for years. Again ,when Jameis succeeds this year, you’ll be invisible on the message boards like always. And when he signs his big contract after just find a new team so we dont have to get dumber reading your posts hoping the teams qb will fail.

  39. joshbucsfan Says:

any intelligent fan of football who actually watches a bucs game would see that the BEST qb on 3rd down in the ENTIRE LEAGUE is jameis and see why, cuz he makes something out of nothing constantly. I hear 3rd down is a pretty important down, but idk maybe that’s just me..not to mention top 2 in league under pressure when you are forced to show real skill, unlike goff who is the worst, just does well in a great system with a great TEAM around him

  40. joshbucsfan Says:

    cgmaster27,
glad to see our fan base has a few intelligent football minds on it, jameis haters ignore facts in front of their face, as do all the BSPN “experts”

  41. lurker Says:

this is the better article from Thomas Bassinger from 3/21/19:
(shows that both sides are right. he is a good and a bad quarterback.)

Who is Jameis Winston? We still don’t know.
The game tape and numbers paint a picture of a maddeningly inconsistent quarterback.
    https://www.tampabay.com/data/2019/03/21/who-tampa-bay-buccaneers-quarterback-jameis-winston-we-still-dont-know

  42. lurker Says:

from the article on winston and deep passes:

“What about the offensive line? Did Winston have enough time? As it turns out, pass protection wasn’t an issue, either. Winston had a clean pocket on two-thirds of his deep pass dropbacks, and yet only five of those 23 throws were accurate, according to Kinsley.”

  43. Rick Brooks Says:

Whine, whine, whine! So many don’t like anything about the Bucs owners, management, and players. I always wonder why you follow this team, unless you just live to be miserable! Reminds me of this sad character from Major League II. Me, I know it’s going to be a process, to build a Super Bowl team, and I’m looking forward to seeing the progress in that direction this upcoming season. Go Bucs!

    https://youtu.be/xAZU6DYwTD

  44. Reach87 Says:

We lost most games the last 2 years due to defense and special teams. Blame the QB. Makes sense and is typical of you lot. Worst fans ever. Sad. Go Bucs!

  45. Ndog Says:

Hey BucsBandit where’s Will Grier again or just that replacement you promised for Jameis in the draft? Baaaaaaaaaaa, you just don’t get it bro but I’ll help you. YOU’RE WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Deal with it little buddy.

  46. lurker Says:

    also from the article:

“Though it’s an advantage to have a quarterback who can improvise when plays break down, such plays represent only a sliver of a quarterback’s overall performance. In Winston’s case, he was under pressure on a third of his dropbacks, a rate that was about league average.”

  47. TampaTown Says:

    @ RodMunch:
Amen! Feels good to laugh so hard. Maybe we can get the Joe’s and Ira to broadcast it live! I would love to see all the Jameis haters on the bottom of the Bay.

  49. Dapostman Says:

When you are constantly playing from behind and you have no running game the other team knows you are going to pass. This isn’t rocket science.

  50. BucsBandit Says:

@JimmyJack – wanting to get rid of Winston because someone recognizes he’s not the answer at QB is not someone being a “bad fan” it’s just someone that wants a different QB leading the team. And there’s no bandwagon for me to stay on or off… I’m not a bandwagon fan, I’ve been a fan of this team since it started in 1976 and have been a season ticket holder. I was at the Super Bowl in San Diego in 2003 and celebrated like crazy us winning our first Lombardi. Being a diehard Bucs fan doesn’t mean you have to accept mediocre play or drink the Kool-Aid that someone is better than they are (when they still haven’t proven it). I’d love to see Winston wins us a Super Bowl, I just don’t think it’s going to happen. Not even close. I honestly don’t believe he’s the answer.

@CGmaster – that’s correct, you can’t just blame all of Winston’s problems on the Defense. As I already stated, the Defense was more than responsible for much of our losing. BUT… there were many games when the score was tied or it was close early on and Winston had the ball to drive the Offense and DID NOTHING. Or turned it over and gave our opponent a short field which they often took advantage of. LOOK AT THE STATS… our Pass Protection has been STELLAR. Winston has been sacked a lot less than many other QBs. Our run game has sucked for a number of reasons (a lot less runs called AND poor run blocking at times). But excusing Winston’s bad decisions, inaccuracy, and not protecting the ball on our running game issues is BAD LOGIC. Give credit where credit is due… Winston. His play has been pretty bad at times even when he’s had great protection; that has nothing to do with the run game or our bad Defense.

@Ndog – Will Grier was drafted in the 3rd round just as I predicted, it just didn’t happen to be the Bucs. The Panthers selected him in the pick that followed us selecting Mike Edwards. The Panthers know he has great potential and the Bucs should have drafted him. As for the Bucs not drafting a QB, they should have but have many holes to fill. But rest assured they know they’re “rolling the dice” this season with Winston and if he doesn’t finally play with some consistency he’s GONE from the team and won’t be signed to a long term deal. That’s what you just don’t get. Winston already has one foot out the door for this team. They’re not about to pay him $30M+ a season with a long term deal unless he plays lights out this year. And I just don’t see it happening. Nothing in his first 4 years has shown that Winston is a good, consistent NFL QB. So like I said… he’ll be gone soon and you’ll be putting your Jameis doll up for sale on eBay.

  51. T REX Says:

It is forced. It’s fake. Eat some W’s. He tries too hard. Nm

  52. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Joe, after reading the comments, are you at least comprehending the disdain a huge portion of the fan base has for Winston? The Bucs can find brighter days ahead AFTER this episode is over. And it will be after this season. Mark my words.

  53. Negative Nancy Says:

Winston was 8th best QB last year, that means he did his part to get to the playoffs (when playing). But is he a leader? Does he motivate the entire team to excel? I have my doubts…

  54. TOM Says:

When you make a fool of yourself by eating W’s I wouldn’t call that a leader. By the way JW, did you do that on your own or was Licht behind that?
