Inside Day 5 Of Bucs OTA Practice

May 23rd, 2019

The late-spring broil is on high at the practice fields of One Buc Palace.

Our beloved Buccaneers are grinding through underwear football practice and learning the playbook while finding their way under a brand new regime.

Fans living the Bucs life want to know what’s happening, but the Bucs won’t allow all the media in to watch. However, in-house Buccaneers.com reporter Carmen Vitali is there and she has been typing.

Joe will summarize her practice observations from yesterday’s session here:

  1. The offense practiced play-action and running routes that confuse defensive backs.
  2. Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Justin Watson made nice catches.
  3. Rookie corner Sean Murphy-Bunting intercepted an unnamed quarterback.
  4. The defense is swarming.
  5. CB Carlton Davis is learning.

In the 45-picture photo gallery published from practice, none featured the face of the franchise, America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

The Bucs were back on the field today and Joe can’t wait to hear all about it.

Running route that confuses defensive backs? So I. Other words out DBs are confused…

  5. diddler Says:

Josh Allen had 17 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss in his final college season.

I have a feeling these new route concepts will be interesting to watch….If I remember correctly, Arians likes to stack 3/4 WRs on one side in bunch formation then run routes of that…creates natural picks and someone gets open quick…
They may run WR smoke behind the bunch as well with a WR in motion from other side and get our bigger WRs blocking out in front.

You NEVER saw motion much from Koetter or stacked/bunch formations on 1 side….

I think there will some unique setups from BA’s playbook. Will hopefully help Jameis to see the open receiver quicker so he isn’t holding the rock as long in waiting for long plays to develop.

    Just my 2 cents 🙂

Joe … “The Bucs were back on the field today and Joe can’t wait to HEAR all about it.” Beautiful dig on the Bucs NOT letting the media observe May practices. Love it!

Doesn’t your face have to be on the side of Raymond James in order to be the face of the franchise? Has that changed recently?

  9. unbelievable Says:

lol Defense Rules I though the same exact thing reading that.

  10. JimmyJack Says:

88 Nice post. The offense sounds fun. It sounds like an attacking offense and sounds like what Bruce has been preaching. It makes Dirk’s offense sound like a read and react type of offense…….vfunny thing is “read and react” is the exact way I would describe a M.Smith defense.

    GO BUCS!!!

  11. Lord Cornelius Says:

    lmao

I appreciate the Joe(s) sharing this because they know we are obsessed and love our notes, even if Carmen’s report is super vanilla / generically positive as any other team would be this time of year.

Not too worried about the photos. Seem pretty random / all over the place. The last batch I saw I barely recognized anyone

  12. JP_09 Says:

Schefter is reporting Bucs and Suh officially reaches a deal. 9.25 mil up to 10

  22. Lord Cornelius Says:

In terms of motivations for Suh:

    1. Cement HOF career via another year of solid production
    2. Prove he was the better player than McCoy
    3. Try to earn another payday

Seems like reason enough to give it 100% but who knows. I’ll take whatever effort he gave the Rams last year / any other team for the production it equated to historically.

    unbelievable

    I got a good laugh also! ;-D
    _______________
You don’t suppose BA is holding closed practices this early because he might want to have a slight edge early in the season with the schedule that has been handed to us? He might want some degree of surprise for our early opponents. He might not want to give any of them an inkling of what the Buccaneers’ “new look” offenses and defenses might be three and a half months in advance?

    Naaaaw!

    Go Bucs!!!

“The offense practiced play-action and running routes that confuse defensive backs.”

BA and Lefty must be running last years Bear’s offense.

I’ve never seen such confusion since Johnson ran into the wall.

  25. SOEbuc Says:

Nice grabs by Watson mentioned every day. Niiice.
