Arians Tipping His Hand?

May 20th, 2019

Pass happy?

Could it be that Bucco Bruce Arians has a hunch the defense, short-handed upfront and relying on rookies and unproven young guys in the secondary, isn’t going to be much better than last year, thus he’s planning to throw early, often and even some more?

That’s sort of what Joe reads between the lines. And Evan Silva of Rotoworld.com seems to be thinking the same.

Silva is of the mind Arians may just abandon the run and throw as much if not more than former Bucs coach Dirk Koetter did. Two thirds of the NFL had more rushing attempts than the Bucs did last year.

And is this why the Bucs, with a pathetic run game, have virtually ignored any upgrade at running back (unless you count dragging 30-year old Andrew Ellington out of mothballs an upgrade)?

If a team doesn’t expect to run the ball much if at all, then there’s no reason to spend the money or draft capital to beef up the position.

We’re NOT DONE crafting the roster yet!

Jeez! All the pieces of the puzzle will come together and we’ll go 10-6 and make the playoffs.

Yeah and look at Ira’s face. He’s not buying a thing Bucco Bruce is saying..

Ira in the background. His expression tells you all you need to know.

    It’s Irv!

And can he be hoping when doing it they don’t set a new interception record?

Why is anyone buying anything this guy is selling?? What has he ever won? That hat is such a joke.

    That’s Ira’s normal expression.

If we just had better run blocking ..skip ..if we jus

  12. Wesley Says:

    That’s funny Todd.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Abandon the run up the middle on first downs……go to the play action on first & 10 every time….it will fake the defenses out expecting the predictable Koetter like plays….
Use the pass to set up the run.

  14. Race to 10 Says:

These odds based on Dirk kotter offense and Mike Smith defense are just plain stupid. Seriously make up your mind. Are you now saying it wasn’t Dirk and warhop at fault for the run game and it was personnel? If the defense will get steamrolled why would that mean you throw more and put defense on the field more. It’s completely ignorant to say with a completely different coaching staff and schemes on offense and defense we will have the exact same results as last year regardless of personnel. Pick a stance already and stop waffling from article to article

  15. DBS Says:

You know that Bonzi? Oh that’s right I almost forgot why you are even here. Your all knowing knowledge and telling posters they are wrong all the time.

  16. Stanglassman Says:

Don’t sleep on Bruce Anderson. He was expected to go round 4/5. If we drafted him in the 5th and brought in Gay as a UFA the fans and media wouldn’t be saying the Bucs did nothing to address the run game and the result is the same. I think BA going to like Shawn Wilson too. Props to JL for signing all these talented UFA RBs.

  17. geno711 Says:

So Joe took a tweet from Evan Silva who is known for talking about Fantasy Football. Evan talks about plays run by Coach Arians to like the Buc’s offense from a fantasy standpoint.

Then Joe leads this article with an Arians tipping his hand title? Not sure how he got that from Evan Silva’s tweet. But Joe reads between the lines; Something us lesser mortals (or non blog journalists) can’t understand apparently. (Let’s add a picture of Ira that seems to support that well thought out notion).

Joe then plows right into his hunch that Arians has a hunch.
    Hunch! I mean Huh!

And the hunch is!!! Let’s wait for it. Arians HUNCH IS THAT THE DEFENSE IS NOT GOING TO BE BETTER. Great insight. Great journalism.

Joe I am sure you are right that after these pre-draft and post draft OTA’s, Bruce Arians has made a final determination on how good all parts of his team by this week. Great insight as always!

  18. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I disagree with the premise of this article, or at least part of it. Here’s why…

…Peyton Barber isn’t really long term starting material. I felt he should have been cut two years ago, and now we need him, but not for much longer.

Fans have written off Ronald Jones already, but not me. I believe in player development. I also believe a part of that is reps and experience, and last year Jones got very little experience. It was suggest last year that he had trouble picking up the playbook too.

However…reports are that he’s shown up this off season after having studied hard and is giving 110% on the practice field. He’s insisting on finishing plays, running for TDs when he doesn’t have to, and he has a fire in his step.

Will things change for him? Only time will tell, but I hope he excels and takes the starting role away from Barber…because that would mean he’s better.

Shaun Wilson is better than people think as well. Don’t be surprised if he gets more playing time this year. And there is another RB on the team…I forget his name, but Bucs Insider was talking him up a lot recently.

So, I think the Bucs did not go after a RB because they felt they had all they needed already. In fact, early on, Arians as much as stated that he asked his offensive coaches what they needed and they all said they had all the players needed to succeed.

And then we lost Humphries and got rid of Jackson, so they brought in a WR and drafted Miller. Miller will probably play on the outside, even though it was thought at first he would be slot. Turns out he’s very fast and has excellent hands…which makes him better than Jackson was. Think Humphries with height and speed.

As does Joe, I do not believe Arians will be heavy on the run anyway…but I do think it will be better than last year.

    So far as the defense?

    I completely disagree with Silva.

This defense is going to be like night and day to last year. White and the CBs will see to that. Even without JPP. McCoy will be back as a pass rusher on the outside. Nassib will complement him. And LBs? They are going to be excellent.

I’m coming around to what Bruce Arians has done…I’m not totally sold yet, but I see some things slowly taking shape.

I think Joe, Ira, and we fans are going to be surprised this year.

  19. kyle Says:

ira, how about a beet salad brother? Damn, looks like too many primanti brothers sandwiches.

  20. unbelievable Says:

Even Ira’s not buying it in that photo, lol

  21. TexBuc Says:

    In Bruce I trust.

  22. 813bucboi Says:

as long as the play calling isnt predictable we should be fine…..chiefs were in a ton of shoot outs last year…..

    GO BUCS!!!!

  23. down in the dirt doug Says:

Arians has a record of 59 wins and 33 losses. We will be 11 and five this year.Bruce will not develop a case of senior memory loss.He came here to win and that he will do!!Do not become weak minded and insecure- friends.Let’s ride this stallion to the finish line.Best not to shoot the horse before the race!!!

  24. BigBucKy13 Says:

Arians has said publicly multiple times that part of getting Winston to play up to his potential is protecting him more and part of protecting him is developing the run game. Literally has said this multiple times. Yet he is going to completely abandon the run. Ok.

  25. adam from ny Says:

    ira X bruce = #BuggedOutPic

  26. Frank Pillow Says:

If we’re simply going to do the same thing we’ve been doing- and the results all but guaranteed (by some) to be the same- the what hell was the point of firing Dirk and on-boarding Cardiac Bruce and his entire extended coaching tree?!?!

Losing via a different scheme, regime, is still losing…Jameis has already proven he can’t overcome multi-point deficits or throw the ball 40 times a game effectively. So what is this team doing, really? Putting all of its eggs in the ‘these coaches are better teachers’ basket?!?!

  27. Magadude Says:

If that is they way Arians thinks, then JL and he should both be fired right now. If that is the way a professional coach thinks, then please let the Glazers refund our ticket money now so we can just stay home and let the fans of pro teams go see their guys play in our stadium.

And if they do that there will be sniveling little babies all over this site saying it wasn’t fair to Jameis and he needs another year. Nope.

Make all be pros, and deal, plan, and conduct the game like pros. Or let’s get some pros in here.

  28. Cobraboy Says:

    :sigh:

I hate the NFL 24 hour news cycle in the dead period between the draft and first pre-season game.

So much stuff being pulled out of hindquarters pretending to be “news.”

This article reeks of “Well, du-uh!”

    1) No teams’ personnel is locked in right now, so we just don’t know, and

    2) If you can’t stop the other guys, you damn well better outscore them.

Until proven otherwise, I Trust Bruce.

  29. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

“Props to JL for signing all these talented UFA RBs.”

I think the climate and the fact that the Bucs don’t have any legitimate RB’s is the main reason they are flocking here. They just better hope their paychecks don’t bounce.

  30. Magadude Says:

Only on the Bucs can you get paid millions years over like Licht does, fail continuously, and get yet another year with your third coach while basically (not) doing the same things…

Man, what a job that must be….

Oh yeah, IF Arians starts talking stuff like that, dump him now.

I will take a deep breath as I don’t see where he insinuates such lunacy.

  31. Magadude Says:

The bright spot is with so manyDBs, the Bucs can send 5 guys to IR or get PED violations but still field enough CBs that can keep the opponents passing game to 400 yards and under 43 points. That’s something.

  32. Magadude Says:

@down in the dirt Doug….You can’t fix the engine if you are missing spare parts. Even assuming BA has the tools and skill, that are too many missing pieces.

As I’ve said before, this team needs to rebuild, and I am betting they wish they could. But they are so inept they can’t afford it. I mentioned the R word at Advent Health Training Center in January and got “shushs” from a small but important host inthe front office. Yeah, it would kill business and enthusiam if the public knew their team is even worse than last year.

    Gee…ya think?

  33. Defense Rules Says:

Magadude … If Jameis has a bad year, it’ll be his last as a Buc. 2020 promises to be a year with several interesting QBs coming out, and IF we’re picking high, we simply can’t afford to pass on one of them. Even with a moderately good year, the Bucs may still move on from Jameis. It’s not so much will BA want him back, it’s more ‘Will the Glazers want to commit to a long-term contract with Jameis for some big $$$?’ After all, they ultimately do pick up the tab for every player, and I’m sure that their vote is the only one that really counts.

  34. Mort Says:

TIL we signed “Andrew” Ellington instead of “Andre” Ellington. If you’re gonna sh!t all over the dude, at least get his freakin name right. You know, as a professional courtesy. This is hardly the first time. You guys botch it every chance you get between here and the pod.

  35. Magadude Says:

@Defense Rules…I agree completely. But there are some who will not like JW3 no matter what, and some will want him to stay no matter what. I have seen enough. Four years and full of trouble is enough.

  36. SKIP B Says:

when your defense is horrible, you run the ball, shorten the game & keep them off the field. Unfortunately, we have nothing at RB.

  37. Tye Says:

  38. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs are going 12-4, win the NFC South

  39. JA Says:

    Could it be that …

BA has already given up like most of you?
JPP is done for the year, but the Bucs are keeping it a secret?
Jameis is on the trading block?
McCoy will promise to sell all of his action hero dolls for another chance with the Bucs?
Tmax, aka loudin, aka succaneer, aka anybody that compliments him will trade in his amoeba brain for a multicelled upgrade?

For the answer to these and other mind bending questions stay tuned for the next episode of AS THE STOMACH TURNS …

    Gmc has no value!!!!! Shocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last of the gmc-melted ice cream fans are only fans because of the media attention she gets!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no way they actually watch the dancing clown get manhandled game after game!!!!!!!!! If they had their choice of guaranteed that gmc could be in the stupid “ring of honor” instead of playing this year, they would jump at the ring!!!!!!!!!!! Media pub is what the sheep are judging she-mc by!!!!!!!! not actual play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And you want to know why this regime want to ship no-value she out of town?????? because she cries and complained in “EVERY” defensive scheme that was not some form of the obsolete tampa2 that featured and starred she-mc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  56. RTG Bucs Says:

McCoy to be released. Not a surprise to anyone that really watches the trenches.

  57. NOSBOS Says:

All this crying about RBs but if my source is correct and the jets are willing to trade Bell for Brate and a draft pick most of you would probably scream bloody murder over losing a future pick.

  58. ATrain Says:

McCoy will play next season for 6 million

He could have made 8 here

    Bye Bye

  59. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Go get SUH

  60. Since87 Says:

Bucs released GMC per e rappaport
    It

  61. Doctor_berto Says:

No we would be screaming bloody murder because you don’t wanna pay a damn RB that kind of money.

  62. BigBucKy13 Says:

Suh will be a Buccaneer before training camp kicks off

  63. LakeLand Says:

They still have to pay Suh. He won’t sign for peanuts unless it’s a contender.

  64. Magadude Says:

It is possible both Suh and GMC make about $4-5M this year, with options and next year for $8M. Suh’s a dirty player but his swagger could be what is needed.

  65. DBS Says:

There are those people that were crying for Fat Albert now crying for Suh. He. has gone from team to team and is unemployed for a reason.

  66. Miller5252 Says:

Don’t waste the money on Suh. If you’re gonna pay a high price pay for a younger player that has the potential of a high ceiling and get him cheaper. If not that…. then look at trading for some better talent and save the coin. I agree there’s a reason Suh is unemployed and bouncing from team to team anymore….. both him a GMC are past their prime and want way too much money for any team to spend that type of coin.

  67. Miller5252 Says:

One last thing…. you get rid of a turd like Djax and you want to bring another player that looks at himself first before anything else???? What’s the point of bringing in a overpriced washed up player for one year that’s not going to go above and beyond for his team. Hell, last year playing next to a stud like Donald who was doubled all the time and Suh still couldn’t have a great year. Pass on Suh and get younger!

  68. down in the dirt doug Says:

Magadude—we all agree that we are missing parts. There are ways to free up money and we have all heard them stated many times.I feel that licht gets too emotionally attached to various Buc players.Someone needs to spend a weekend at a retreat with the patriots staff.Tough love needed and players need to go!!!!

  69. Barack's Crack Pipe Says:

    LOL
Why is Ira standing in the background? He looks like Chris Christy hovering behind Trump. 🙂
