Draft Rumblings

April 25th, 2019

Merry Draft Day! It’s Christmas in April for NFL fans and here are some rumblings Joe has read across the interwebs that could or could not affect what the Bucs do at No. 5 later tonight.

* Prickly Pete Prisco of CBS Sports claims he has heard the Cardinals will not draft Kyler Murray at No. 1.

* Friend of Joe Peter Schrager of FOX Sports and the NFL Network has a bunch of juicy tidbits. Including: Don’t be shocked if Devin Bush is an early Day 1 draft pick, there is a run of offensive tackles much earlier than expected, Greedy Williams is hardly a unanimous choice as top corner in the draft, and the only buzz Schrager is hearing about a first-round receiver is Hollywood Brown.

* Cranky Greg Gabriel, the former Bears scouting director who is active on Twitter, may no longer work for an NFL team but he has friends that still do. He Twittered the rumors that the Redskins want to trade up for a quarterback are spot on.

* The rumors flying that Chucky wants to draft Dwayne Haskins might jump-start a team to trade up with the Jets, types Albert Breer.

Finally, the draft is almost here, just hours away. About time!

Bucs passion will flow with fans from many states, a few countries, and loads of local hardcore fans enjoying the draft until it ends. On Thursday, music starts outdoors in the 5 o’clock hour and runs until just before 8 p.m when the draft kicks off. The regular menu is available, in addition to a $25 buffet all night long. Sage Ira Kaufman will be in the house. Joe’s been a part of hosting draft parties for years. They’re a load of fun. Thanks to Bud Light and Buffalo Wild Wings for their desire to serve the fans.

Finally here!!! Enough of the rumors and speculation! Let’s see how this shakes out!

  2. lowercaseg Says:

Draft josh Allen if he’s there , if not, trade back with the redskins for more picks.

  3. Sport Says:

Of the Big 3, Allen is last on my list. Won’t be a bit sad if we get him though.

    1. Williams
    2. Bosa
    3. Toss up for me Allen, Oliver or White
    4. Trade down – we need starters and depth in many (too many) areas

  4. Joe in Michigan Says:

A draft memory I’ll never forget…Green Bay fans and media were all over Ron Wolf (Packers GM at the time) for not drafting RB Leeland McElroy in the 1996 draft. Ron Wolf said “If you knew what I know, you wouldn’t draft him, either”. Sure enough, McElroy was out of the NFL in a few years…My point is there’s a lot more that Jason Licht sees than we the fans do.

  5. Playaction Says:

For those who want so much for the Bucs to trade down – we don’t do well with more picks!

Stay put and get a game wrecker instead of guessing. Also, we only have enough money right now to sign an undrafted free agent.

  6. Tom S. Says:

If Josh Allen falls to number 5 and the Bucs still take Devin White, does Lee’s head explode?

  7. Losing Hope Says:

    T

  8. MadMax Says:

    Q or White!

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    * Raiders will surprise everyone and trade down to draft an offensive player, but not a quarterback (in the first round)

    * The Bucs will not trade a player during the draft

    * Many fans will hate the first pick the Bucs make

    * Jason Licht will make a trade but not with the fifth pick, and it will not involve a player

    * In the days following the draft, a trade will be announced

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    * Many fans will hold their breath as the forth overall pick is made

  11. Magadude Says:

Ah, comparison to Christmas Day. Okay, I’m game. From a family where as a kid during the Carter recession years when we couldn’t afford a lot of things, Christmas morning was lackluster as we knew mom and dad couldn’t give us a lot, and I’d learned there was no Santa to save the day. So we were thankful for what did get and it made the day more meaningful, not to mention reflection that at least we had food, water, shelter, and health.

So I’d love to trade down to pick up a few more cool presents, but if they don’t, I hope who they do pick at 5 overall is an immediate and major impact…or it will be a long winter.

  12. Magadude Says:

It is sad here we are at draft day and the GMC issue is not solved, and I fear the result could be they just have to cut him outright without getting diddly for him.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

Quinnen Williams or Devin White, simple as that. Don’t over-think it Jason.

  14. Not there yet Says:

I think edge rusher or linebacker is real especially if Vea slimmed down and will play 3 tech meaning they just need a pure run stuffer. Glad the speculation is just about over and would love it if the nfl moved the draft back to early April

  15. TDTB Says:

Could we see Bucs move to #1 in a trade with Cardinals by packaging GMC and #5? Bucs get Q and Cardinals still get Murray.

  16. Bucsfanman Says:

Bonzai- “buc fans holding their breath “
    Classic!
Yep, AND guaranteed to hate the pick!

  17. Bucsfanman Says:

D.R.- Amen brother! Keep it simple!

  18. Bucsfanman Says:

And, with the 5th pick in the 2019 nfl draft “fan man” picks……..his nose!
Is that a booger on my screen?!

  19. ATrain Says:

    GMC will be cut

We will not get anything for him

Because NO ONE will pay 13 million for 17 tackles and a sack

The NFL knows we can’t keep him

A team may offer up to 8 if they really need a DT

GMC is only ELITE IN THE BUCS WORLD

  20. EvolvingBucsFan Says:

I find it interesting that BA said 6 generational players and he wont trade back unless it’s a huge deal worth the while. 6 players, who picks 6th that would be the Giants. I think Ba is very smart and might be sending signals to the Giants and might only be willing to trade with the Giants if they are that greedy and might work out well for us. Could you imagine trading one spot and still getting our guy and extra pick(s)? We will see.

    Go Bucs!!!

  21. Figures Says:

Don’t be an idiot and trade down for picks you’ll screw up Jason.
Take a game changer at 5.

    It’s not rocket science

  22. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Can I sit with the media at One Buc to the see the Clueless Joe cry and turn in his media credentials when the Bucs don’t reach for a pass rusher?

  23. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

I don’t want Devin White @ 5…so I guess I am in the need pick side of the argument
    Build the trenches first !
OL & DL first 4 picks in any order
    2 of each

  24. Bird Says:

    Sport

Agree with you. Allen is my least favorite for whatever reason.

Actually would like Williams then white !

  25. Draft 666 Says:

Why can’t we bring in Kevin Kostner to handle our draft? He did a great job in Draft Day and he just gets pissed!!! Bucs will do what they always do… pass on the Hall of Famer and select a guy who will play better on another team after we cut or trade him!!! Same old Bucs!!!

  26. Bird Says:

Gruden will take qb with another first round pick Not 4
Unless Murray there . That could change everything.

Almost 90% sure Murray will be a cardinal

  27. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

If Josh allen is available(many think he may be) and the Licht Brain does not take him , it would be no surprise. What it would be is just poor judgment , which we all know Licht Brain has a penchant for.

  28. IBelieveinJameis Says:

For many weeks, I’ve been thinking of ways that Allen could drop to 1.05 so we could nab him but after reading (too) many draft analysis and scouting reports, I want Q or White now. Since it’s highly unlikely Q will be there, hoping for White who almost assuredly will be.

White checks every box for what a modern star NFL LB could be. This is by no means saying he’s “can’t miss” because I don’t think any prospect in this draft is that (Q is closest imo). Trying to find realistic trades that we could do to move up to take Q and not coming up with much. We have so many holes in key spots that I don’t like the idea of giving up picks. Likewise, hate the idea of trading 1.05 for more picks in a draft that’s shallow at a number of positions.

Don’t overthink this one – grab Q if he’s there but since he likely won’t be, take White. If somehow White and Q go before, then take Allen. Unless something insanely crazy happens, one of those three should be there.

  29. Magadude Says:

Too many holes on this team. Licht has not picked a “gamechanger” yet. Better odds at getting a few keepers than just a #5 overall thinking it will be a sure bet. Hargraves, Spence, Howard come to mind. All injury prone. I hope to God Licht has been told don’t mortgage the future of this team by trading UP. Let this clown give up first round draft picks in future years to trade up and get another guy this year? No, don’t even think about it.

Sad to say, this year is transition to rebuild year. They are so dysfunctional from Licht, Koetter, and Lovie that cannot afford to rebuild now, despite so many holes and having so man missed picks and bad players. Wait until next year and trade up for a QB as the team rebuilds. And oh, they will be rebuilding. Arians isn’t the answer long term and Winston won’t cut it.

The accident has happened two years ago. The Bucs are just in the process of driving to the scene.

  30. jb™️ Says:

I don’t understand why so many want us to trade down and acquire more picks when we ALL know Licht has never been able to draft quality players in the 2,3 and 4th rounds. Also don’t want us to pick a 4-3 DE like Bosa. Would much rather see us stay put and take a game changer, like Williams, Allen or even a ML like White.

  31. No expert Says:

It’s just rumors but the word is Doug Williams loves Haskins and is in talks with the bucs for the 5th pick. The Raiders actually have no interest in Haskins but are smoke screening so some one trades with the jets and takes a qb in fear that the jets will take their DT. Gruden would love to grab Oliver at 4 and Burns later in the first. See if it comes true.

  32. DBS Says:

Wake me up when it’s over. Because with all these draft picks over the years the Bucs have done And gone where?

  33. Kobe Faker Says:

“If Jason Gump takes Devin White when Josh Allen is still available…

Kobe Faker will run him out of town”

    Kobe Faker

  34. 813bucboi Says:

    ED OLIVER!!!!!

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!!

  35. spicoli Says:

Owner Daniel Snyder has “taken over the first round of the draft.”

Grant Paulsen of The Athletic shared this information on Wednesday, noting that the last time Snyder took over like this he traded two future first-round picks and a second-round pick to move up for Robert Griffin III.

I can dig this trade if Synder gives us a kings ransom for #5

  36. ChanEpic Says:

I’d like to see Williams, just based on OJ Howards’ description of his play when he was still at Alabama. “The biggest trouble was Quinnen Williams at practice. I mean, he was so good. I was a senior and he was on the scout team all year, I think he redshirted that year, but that guy’s really good. He’s a good ball player.”

  37. Bucsfaninchina Says:

Magadude forgets that Mike Evans exists.

  38. Doctor_berto Says:

There is no way Licht takes White over Allen. Positional value isn’t even close.

  39. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Playaction I am with you. At the 5 spot we can get a guy that has potential hall of fame talent and can be a true impact player. Let’s stop moving down, picking up guys that are more difficult to predict their success. These extra picks are even less certain. I mean just last year they missed on two of the 2nd rounders they got and the other one is just showing some potential. Allen, White or Oliver will be available and any one of those three should be MUCH better than the guy they could pick up with the 9th – 15th pick in the draft. I think there are 5 true 5 star defensive guys in this draft. Don’t get cute and miss out on one of them.

  40. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Bird, remember how Gruden was when he coached the Bucs. He absolutely avoided young QBs like the plague. Would be out of his character to draft a QB with one of the top picks in the draft.

  41. TOM Says:

I hate reading that Licht likes a certain type of player. The hell with what Licht says. Its BA’s team, he should have the last word & get who he likes.

  42. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @kobe

That is my nightmare scenario probably lol.

  43. Isaac haggins Says:

Raiders really really want Jeffery Simmons and a Qb but the # four and the two later rounds put them in a trade at all costs scenario unless of course they go qb at 4 . Both Mayock and Gruden are dying to have four picks tonight , it’s Ego Clash of the Ego Titans in Oakland !! Stay Tuned !!!
