“Does Anyone Know What I Played At Last Year?”

April 9th, 2019

Weight gain.

For the first time, even though it was a brief moment, Joe heard America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, push back at the Fourth Estate in public.

When Jameis spoke today at the podium in the media studio of One Buc Palace, he was his usual, happy-go-lucky self, excited to be on the practice fields and working out at One Buc Palace. For Jameis, that building is his happy place.

But when Jameis was asked about his goal of playing at 250 pounds this year, he briefly displayed an attitude that he didn’t like to be asked about it, or want to be asked about it. In short, Jameis seemed to suggest anyone who criticizes him for wanting to play quarterback at 250 pounds doesn’t know what they are talking about.

“Does anyone know what I played at last year?” Jameis said as he stared at the questioner and scanned the room.

When Jameis was reminded he was listed by the Bucs official roster as weighing 231, he sort of scoffed, “Yeah.”

Then, the old Jameis we all know and love returned and be broke out into his famous smile and added, “I played at 245 last year.”

Jameis then returned his eyes to the reporter who originally asked him about his weight, this time smiling wide and said, “It’s just five pounds of muscle. That’s all it is.”

This is good news because last year Jameis became a weapon with his feet. In fact, he was the team’s second-leading rusher, averaging just under 30 yards a game.

Five pounds of extra muscle should allow Jameis to better absorb the wear and tear of getting blasted by defenders, but shouldn’t slow him down from scrambling as he so effectively did last year.

And for a very brief moment, we may have found out what is a raw subject for Jameis. That may have been the first time Joe ever saw Jameis remotely testy with reporters in public.

glad he got testy……nice guys come in last!!!!!!!….just ask GMC….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  2. Lord Cornelius Says:

Maybe we will see an actual QB sneak then vs a rush for 1 yard loss in some critical situations going forward

  3. K2 Says:

Actually, I thought that was a good sign…don’t let people create problems.

I wish I would see a little more Godwin attributes. In fact, Godwin was the one who brought up that he had a few games that he had drops. Said he was disappointed in himself and was working on focus and catching each pass whether it is tough or routine.

The Jameis equivalent would be…I have way too many turnovers. I lost games because I was trying to make something out of nothing. I need to make the plays that are there…and play in the real world if we are going to win. In stead of the standard, “I just keep working on getting better every day.” Godwin was right on target and let us know that he played below his standard. He drilled down on… “the great ones are consistent.”

MVP season coming up right here for Jaboo

  5. Not there yet Says:

Well Geraldine also comes to camp rocked up and in shape but we know he looks chubby and slow by mid season. This team always comes ready for camp just to check out by week 3.

“October 25, 2014, McCoy signed a 7-year extension worth $98 million, and $51.5 million guaranteed”

    what’s your net worth 813?

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @LC

You took the words right out of my mouth…..

  8. Howard Cosell Says:

tmax is right, Winston has the mindset of a true winner.
Playing for the glazers must be hell for a guy like that
who really wants to win and won’t accept politically correct
    mediocrity.
Glad to see him push back…that means Arians is making him confident

  9. Doctor_berto Says:

Love it. Jameis is going to ball out this season.

  10. Bucfan1988 Says:

Did anyone notice Jameis’s response when asked about McCoy?

He said “we love him & miss him”!!

That answers the question on whether GMC has been at any of the OTA’s…

That is a big NO SIR!!

Translation -> his a$$ is gone!

Just hope we get something for him and it have purely release him. He’s got a fat cap at $13M. It maybe someone will step up during the draft. How bout Jets, Colts, or Raiders? They still got plenty of room….Allow is to move up a few pics in the 2nd or 3rd perhaps?

  11. Howard Cosell Says:

Big Jameis is like ike Cam Newton but without the pouting.
Man I hope the Bucs can overcome decades of glazer ineptitude with Arians

  12. BucEmUp Says:

Jameis is the most underrated running qb in the league and because of his big arm and reputaion to take deep shots it drove me.nuts with the lack of plays that were drawn up for it. Jameis is going to explode this year not just because of Arians. Having Bowles and a defense that will actually give him the ball BACK WITH THE LEAD is something he isnt used to seeing.

    Coaching is everything go BUCS!!!!

  13. Magadude Says:

He came here heavy, and was admittedly bellied more than needed. He even commented publicly about guys like Cam Newton and others and how good lthey looked, how agile they were, etc, something like that. So sorry (not really sorry) for me being skeptical of his “new body” and thinking that is nothing other than being eating his way to fat and lazy. Yes, Josh Freeman was best when he was his biggest, but when he got small, it was perhaps due to other things…football was apparently not his first love. So I will wait and see. Winston makes his own bed, period. Be ready to lie in it, and send him out of here if he doesn’t cut it (again).

  14. DooshLaRue Says:

Then, the old Jameis we all know and love returned and be broke out into his famous smile and added, “I played at 245 last year.”

    Oh yeah sure Joe.
We all love him….. ha ha.

I’m hoping for a big turnaround for JW but it’s either gonna be a great season or a total disaster…… no in between.

  15. J Says:

The combativness of his answer is telling….tellin liezzzzz.

  16. El Buco Realisto Says:

If there were “real’ local media, they would have shot back that ” why should we know!!!! You were suspended and did not start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What happened to all the hold them accountable?????? Looks like it back to soft-serve and passes at One Buc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, That the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. EsteroBuc Says:

Hey Joe! I’m amazed that no one has commented on Jameis’ explanation of his T-shirt with the follow up of “So, Buc U”. Double Entendre?

  18. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

like one of the hasslebacks on nfl live said: he can play at 350 it doesnt matter his weight, what matters is the 96 turnovers and it is not often a qb stops being a turnover machine.

  19. AlteredEgo Says:

I wonder what Patrick Mahomes is saying these days…

  20. Wausa Says:

Well said Lord Cornelius it is ridiculous hat Koetter refuses to do a QB sneak

  21. Ndog Says:

Let the hate flow Jameis haters, it feels so good doesn’t it…..

  22. DB55 Says:

Wow Joe. That’s an attitude? How docile exactly do you need to be? McIceCream level docile?

  23. BrianBucs Says:

245? Must have been all of that Humble Pie he was eating

  24. Mike Evans Goat Says:

I just watched the Jameis presser from today. He definitely took as shot at joe as he was walking off lmao. BUC U

  25. BucsBall80 Says:

Im glad to have a QB thats pushing his self to be great. I want my team to succeed. So that means Jamies too. So many lossers on here trying to twist a punch line. Anything to smear his name. Pathetic…

  26. D1 Says:

    Bucsball,

Perhaps this is part of the problem. Winston is always thinking about being great. I propose that first , He focuses on being reliable , consistent and predictable. If He is unable to manifest those foundational attributes , He’s not going to be great. Never!

  27. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Wait a sec…………245? vs. 250? Something is amiss here…..either he’s spewing BS about last year, or BS about this year……otherwise, this wouldn’t even be a story.

  28. BucsminsterFuller Says:

Let’s see, The Bucs lost 370 lbs of quality receivers, but our so-so QB plans to gain 5 lbs to make up for it.
Yeah that math does not check out.

  29. D-Rome Says:

Five pounds of muscle or gristle? Inquiring minds want to know.

  30. James Walker Says:

    Oh….and Buc U.

  31. Buccernutter Says:

Most of you guys are f****** pathetic and don’t know anything about this sport or team. Look at all the negativity you guys spew when you could be out in the world with family or friends. You guys are pathetic. Especially you tmax and realist.

Jameis is going to light things up and you guys are gonna huff and puff all the way to the playoffs when you finally join the REAL bucs fans and support your inevitable SUCCESSFUL starting QB.

    Dumbest fan base in sports.

  32. Brandon Says:

Not surprised that he played at 245. The 231 he was listed at was his official weight at the Combine. A weight he wanted to get down to because he didn’t want to show up at a JaMarcus Russell-like weight of 265 or whatever it was he weighed at his Combine. Jameis dropped a lot of weight after he left school and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came down from close to 245 just to appear more svelte for the teams and scouts. That’s why you can’t go by these Combine weights all the time. Players drop weight just so they can get a hair faster then get right back up to their regular weight, some players gain weight so they don’t appear to be too small (and then lose it before they run at their Pro Day). Cameron Brate is still listed at 235, i think. I’ve been around and next to Brate enough to know that he is closer to 255 but people read that he’s 235 and think he’s too small.

  33. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Love it when a commenter says about Buc fans “Dumbest fan base in sports”….of which he is a part.

  34. Buccernutter Says:

Another perfect example of how dumb this fan base is^^^^

Dude tried to be condescending and inadvertently made himself look like a dumb***, yet again.

You take people literally if they say girls are beautiful? Do you immediately think they are suggesting every woman in the world is beautiful? LMAO 😂

I was born a Buc, I didn’t choose to have you as a fellow fan. I just got unlucky. Thanks for another excellent example though, magnificent. Smh
