“I Hope He Comes Back”

March 9th, 2019

Gets love from America.

If it is up to America’s Quarterback, malcontent wide receiver DeSean Jackson will return to the Bucs this season.

Making an appearance live in the NFL Network’s Los Angeles-area studios during a broadcast of “Total Access” last night, Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston told the NFL world that he doesn’t blame Jackson for being a malcontent because the Bucs have lost 22 games with him on the roster the past two seasons.

And Jameis made a pitch for Jackson to stay, even admitting he spoke with the guy who has done his best to run him out of town.

“We talked briefly,” Winston said. “And the thing about having a guy like DeSean Jackson; he’s passionate, he wants to win. When you have a guy like that, really winning and losing really separates how he’s going to react. He wants to be an important part in winning football games and he knows that he is a very important piece to winning football games. So if we were winning, he’s a selfless individual and he’s fine. But when you’re losing and the guy feels like he’s not getting taking advantage of, of course he’s going to have something to say. That’s just his make-up.

“He’s still one of the best deep-threat targets in the NFL. … I hope he comes back.”

It sounded sort of like Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians and Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht last week in Indianapolis. Both claimed they’ve met with Jackson and all is cool.

Well, in Joe’s eyes, Jackson has dug himself a hole he may not be able to climb out of.

Last year Jackson went on national TV and lobbied for Jameis to be benched. Then he jumps on Chris Simms’ podcast and said not only does he not need to work with Jameis and that Jameis may not understand how to bond with a guy of his rarified air, but Jackson confessed he wanted to play for the Rams.

That’s not even factoring in hassles with coaches, sleeping in meetings, blowing off meetings, not taking notes in meetings, not being well-versed in the playbook and trashing a Christmas display.

To his credit and to be fair, Jackson took the entire wide receivers group, including former receivers coach Skyler Fulton, fishing after the season.

Joe still strongly feels Jackson’s $10 million salary would be best used to instead keep Adam Humphries, a guy who not only works well with Jameis, but produces better than Jackson.

Yeah, Joe wrote that.

wow …that was salaciously dripping with so much admiration ..NOT!!!

Tell us how you really feel? lol

  2. Mike Says:

Licht is too much of a coward to cut him-
The organization is a clown show

  3. Mike Says:

Actually, I wish Jameis had the marbles to tell this guy to get lost himself publicly. The whole team cowered to this dude- made him captain. What a joke. Go return punts man, if you cared. I get it there was a flag on the Pittsburgh punt return so you took your ball and went home. Mr. Big time wanna be celebrity. In the old NFL days he would have been lit up by a linebacker during practice- problem solved.

  4. MDFree Says:

Can you blame him for taking the high road?? He doesn’t really want him back. We know how Jameis is. He’s the first one to take the blame for anything and never points fingers or calls anyone out publically. Aside from his exploits with women, dudes a class act. I respect that.

  5. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Like MDFree said, “He doesn’t really want him back. We know how Jameis is. He’s the first one to take the blame for anything and never points fingers or calls anyone out publically.”

I agree with this and I think Jameis has also been instructed by Arians that MeJax will be gone but we need to keep his value as high as we can, so don’t say anything negative about the guy.

No way he stays on this team, we can’t afford his attitude or his salary. MeJax- You ain’t gotta go home but you gotta get the hell up outa here!

  6. Money $hot Says:

So if we were winning then he is selfless??? Isn’t this the same guy who left the field before the officials after one of the few games we did win? This clown is a cancer and should be surgically removed!

  7. D1 Says:

    Mike,

We’ve all heard about the lack of leadership and culture of losing . What you said is , imo, is an indictment on everyone but DJax. Keep him, cut everyone else. I mean this guy is 5, 9 maybe a buck eight five and He rolls up and takes the team. Good for him.

Shame on the “leaders” who continue to, not lead. What’s worse, these false messengers are promoted by the organization and sold to the fans by the media. Who does the media run to after a loss? The team leaders, theyre the first to be interviewed by a media who seems complicit in the con job to put a smiling face on failure. Seems to me if the Glazer’s owned all the funeral homes, no one would die. But hey, what’s Gerald up to …….

BUCS FANS say they want winners, unfortunately they don’t have a clue what that looks like.
It’ doesn’t look like Gerald and Jameis. Good guys, smiling all the way to the bottom of the abyss. FANS love Sapp and the dog personality he brought to the team. DJAX would own the fool day 1 and make him his be…..

DJAX isn’t the disease. …..He’s the cure!

  8. Not there yet Says:

no one knows what this team thinks of d jack, all we know is the previous regimes head coach was down on all fours at his locker for two years. Fans and media don’t like him myself included but either it’s true they want him back And are trying to get him to stay or make him trade bait. We don’t know but we are close to finding out. All I know is if they were seeking a trade it has been extremely silent search.

  9. Mike Says:

Djax might fool Sapp temporarily, because these guys are all memorized by who brings cultural “swag”, but when it came down to it Sapp would have thrown him through a wall and told everyone publicly that he had a crap attitude- just like he called out Keyshawn- although I actually liked Key because he talked but was willing to change his game and go over the middle- so I didn’t agree w Sapp on that one. What does Djax do? Run out of the locker room when the game ends? I love individuality, but this guy is beyond team and if Arians keeps him and coddles him, I have major hesitations about Him.
But what do I know- just a fan, never met any of these dudes

  10. Playaction Says:

The Bucs are so thirsty that they are willing to sacrifice the entire locker room for an overpriced, under-performing, journeyman malcontent.

If you listen to Desean and his agent, he tries to come off as a mercenary but despite the incredible speed he is just a journeyman who does nothing extra for whoever the QB is.

  11. Alanbucsfan Says:

Sounds more like you rationalizing your opinion , Joe.
Talented players, like talented employees, get frustrated when they work for
    incompetent coaches or incompetent managers.
DJax has a history of playing on winning teams and being a significant contributor on those teams.
Humphries is a fan favorite, I get it, but talentwise, it’s not even close.
Like Licht said, there’s things behind the scenes we don’t know about.

  12. Joe Says:

The Bucs are so thirsty that they are willing to sacrifice the entire locker room for an overpriced, under-performing, journeyman malcontent.

    Spot on!

  13. JA Says:

    D1–

If D-Jax is such a healer, or “the cure” as you say, why did he lose his “medical license” in Philly and Washington? My hunch is that Florida will be the next state to strip him of his “healing powers.”

    He needs to be jettisoned.

  14. D1QB Says:

    Mike,

I used the absurd to illustrate an alternative view of the situation. The culture of losing and lack of leadership is real, or as real as an intangible can be, and this situation illustrates it clearly. I say clearly because it’s there for all to see but the overwhelming opinion has made DJax the source of the problem not a symptom of a much larger problem. Scapegoating DJax isn’t going to fix the problem or cure what plaques this franchise. If getting rid of employees was the answer then this franchise should be in an entirely different situation from where it is and has been for years.

I do not believe DJax would punk Sapp. In fact, they’d probably get along extremely well as they’re both alpha dogs . The big difference is Sapp had the physical presence to run roughshod over any player on the team. Djax is running all over the leadership and he’s got the physical presence of an avg 8th grade girls volleyball player. What’s more impressive…..Sapp….hellnaw.

Bottom line, I mentioned this problem specifically 2years ago, Winston has to be surrounded by young players that are acquired via the draft. Winston was too young and/or too immature a person when He was drafted to lead grown men. Not Winstons fault , licht is the guy who is responsible for building around Winston , get a young group of players and let them mature and make mistakes together.

DJax is not young, sees Winston different than the young players who have been career bucs. He’s a terrible matching with Winston. The fault isn’t on Winston or DJ. It’s the guy who put this together. But Winston is the franchise, licht isn’t going anywhere so it’s scapegoat dj, run him out of town , and hope that the fans don’t ask too many questions. From all appearances, the fans have bought the misdirection and put it all on djax.

Siege the day. Fire the cannons. It’s a new day in Tampa bay.
    Believe. Obey.
    Buy season tickets.

  15. D1QB Says:

    JA,

My post is satire . I do believe the team is lacking leaders and it’s a problem that isn’t going to be solved by axeing djax. And it’s hard to make that point when people want the most simplistic answer and are satisfied by an immediate action like termination.

  16. Defense Rules Says:

Don’t understand why we’re still having this discussion. Bucs NEED the $10 mil they’re paying DJax to bring in at least 2 other FAs to fix known weaknesses on the team. Jackson could be a ‘nice to have’ but he’s not an ‘essential’. Right now we’ve got ME13 & Godwin plus OJ & Brate … 4 significant weapons. What we DON’T have is a slot receiver OR a take-it-to-the-house RB threat. (And sorry, but Watson & RoJo, after last year, are BOTH unproven entities right now).

Dump DJax & use that $10 mil for 2 FAs … a slot WR and a RB. Kick in a little extra & bring in a FA Guard & backup QB. Our offense would be a lot better off.

  17. Bird Says:

    Dang malcontent

You used twice in same article.
All I can say is wow. I feel like I’m back in middle school.

Please add the the mix that I heard …and this could just be a rumor. ..but he once farted on Jameis and walked away without apologizing …and it was taco Tuesday which made it even worse. Can you believe that?

The best part is Johnny Manziel is all of the above x 10 . A loser. A never was. Banned in Canadian football. Plus Johnny way worse to his female companions. And that guy is a legend here.

Good morning kettle. Yup good morning to you too Same color is see.

  18. AlteredEgo Says:

Sooooo…..It probably took me longer to read Jameis’s quote than the conversation between Jameis and DJax

  19. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

difference between big ben & jameis besides the rings, is big ben puts ppl in their place and doesnt try to tip toe around trying to be liked by everybody, not all great leaders are liked just respected

  20. AlteredEgo Says:

Watch him go the Atlanta ….haters….that is just how DJax ticks !….Licht should have traded him now DJax is making Licht pay !…DJax wanted to go to a team headed for last years play offs and a chance at a ring…

  21. OneBuc55 Says:

Duthsty I respect your opinion on Jameis vs. Ben but…

The media would crucify Jameis if he did speak out in the same manner as Ben..Sadly imho, high profile African Americans really have to censor what they say more so than their white counterparts…If the white guy says it’s “leadership” or “swagger”…if the black guy says the same thing its perseved or looked at in negative light “opinionated” or “disgruntled”…

People have a tendency to over analyze/put a negative spin on some of the things Jameis says so Imo he handled the question the right way…take the high road and let the chips fall where they may…

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

So, let me do some math……we keep Djax…..keep GMC…..and we are going to bring in Honey Badger, resign Peyton Barber….a FA Guard…..maybe CJ Mosley….
    sign our draft class…..sign a backup QB…..and sign a few depth players…..
And, we will do all of that on MINUS $2million…..

Oh that’s right we can cut a bunch of guys and replace them with UDFAs.
    Problem solved…..

  23. T REX Says:

Keep the losers…get rid of winners.

Last year of listening to Winston speak. Stanford my ass. Lol.

    One last year. Amen.

  24. TexBuc Says:

“we talked briefly” does not make feel confident about this QB/WR combo.

  25. AlteredEgo Says:

Maybe DJax will go to the Titans….:-)….

  26. SteelStudBuc Says:

Every day you’re posting the same things about DJAX and it’s getting old fast

  27. SteelStudBuc Says:

We should be wary about Joe’s roster “advice
    Let’s make a list here…

    Johnny Manziel… really?
    America’s Quarterback? really?
Doug Martin… that was painful reading here for about a year…
    DJax articles everyday… really?

Just so full of hate and animosity.

  28. Mort Says:

Once again, can’t do anything with him till the league year resets. Trade him for whatever you can get – but do NOT cut him. That’s a retarded waste of an asset. His contract is very fair and he has a lot of value as a deep threat. May be better suited to another team who can compensate the Bucs for the pleasure.

  29. Terry Says:

Send him to Siberia….. I mean Buffalo they need a WR 1.
Sure we can get a mid round pick for him.

  30. BucNole Says:

Everyone just needs to relax. . . they are keeping their options open with Mesaun in hopes some team will offer something for him. . . It also may make a little sense to trade him during the season if he shows out (unlikely, however)
I don’t think GMC or DeJax will be on this team this year.
I like McCoy and would to see him with good coaching/scheme. . . many other players seem to be undercoached or forced to play away from their strengths.

  31. Buc4evr Says:

Even with the cap increase, We probably won’t even have enough cap to sign drafted players and nothing for free agency. With OL,LB,CB,S, and K needs, D-Jax has to go. Trade him for whatever we can get.

  32. JA Says:

    D1–

Didn’t catch the satirical drift in your post.
With that, I stand corrected and do agree with you on the lack of team leadership, albeit JPP tries from time to time but few, if anybody, listen.

  33. Couch Fan Says:

I dont care how good he is. He has a loser attitude and he needs to go. The Bucs lacking leadership is no excuse for this bozo to act like he does. Losing is no excuse to act like he does. Maybe if he gave it his all on the field or in practice it would inspire others to play harder, but no he quits and whines. He IS part of the problem in the locker room and you are a fool if you cant see this.

  34. stpetebucsfan Says:

We paid 20 million for DJAX the past two years. He caught 91 passes. That’s $220,000 for each catch. Seriously!!!

It’s all he does. He doesn’t return punts anymore and he’s not about to throw a block downfield like Godwin or even tiny Hump or even our QB!!!.

Regardless of what you think of his attitude…I happen to agree with Joe…from a simply dollars and cents perspective he is not worth that much money. Again he is a one trick pony! He has good not great hands and he never puts his body at risk to make a catch. He’s the total opposite of the rest of our receiving corps…guys who will risk getting blasted to make a catch. Perhaps that is a reason why JW is partial to throwing to all the other guys and has NO problem with 5 out of 6 of his targets.

And comparing DJAX to Sapp is sacrilegious and I’m not a huge Sapp fan but I do respect him immensely. DJAX has cojones the size of BB’s. People ripped Mike Glennon mercilessly here for running out of bounds short of the sticks instead of sacrificing his body. Somehow DJAX seems to get a pass on his lack of toughness and competitive drive. He does TALK a good game.

  35. westernbuc Says:

Bruce Arians needs to give Skyler Fulton a job

  36. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Couch fan-
Facts don’t support yours and other haters opinion.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: No receiver group was targeted on more total air yards (5,432) in the NFL last season than the Bucs. Next Gen Stats show that DeSean Jackson averaged the most air yards per target (19.1). Jackson (18.9) and Mike Evans (17.7) ranked first and third, respectively, in yards per reception. What these metrics don’t outwardly show is that defenses were forced to account for both Evans and Jackson, which created more favorable matchups for all of their pass catchers.
    – Cynthia Freylund, NFL Network Analytics Expert

As for loser attitude, you’ve got it ass backwards- Jackson has been to playoffs 5 times and does not accept “gracious losing “ like loser Buc fan

  37. Couch Fan Says:

As for loser attitude, you’ve got it ass backwards- Jackson has been to playoffs 5 times and does not accept “gracious losing “ like loser Buc fan
    ———–

LMAO what an idiotic attempt to validate his loser mentality.

Gracious losing and a loser attitude are two completely different things. If you were as smart as you are trying to be, you would already know this.

  38. JBUC Says:

@ T REX name one Qb in the history of our franchise better than Winston….. I’ll wait…
