Adam Humphries Signs Off To Bucs Fans

March 12th, 2019

Message to Bucs fans.

Whether someone wants to quibble about the definition of “execute” in relation to the NFL, it is clear that well over 24 hours before the free agency dinner bell rings, former Bucs receiver Adam Humphries has/will/intends/wants/could/should/plans to put his signature on a piece of paper making him the property of the Tennessee Titans.

(Good thing NFL fans and reporters don’t shorten the name for “Titans” like they do the Jaguars.)

As a result, Humphries, who led Bucs wide receivers in YAC (yards after catch) each of the last three seasons, took to Instagram Monday evening to offer a heartfelt thanks to Bucs fans for backing him since he came into the league as an undrafted free agent.

Joe hated to see Humphries go for a lot of reasons. The first is he was one of those homegrown-type talents Bucs general manager Jason Licht always crowed about. And Joe knows general managers love when players they sign off the scrap heap blossom. It’s something suits can point at when they talk turkey over their contracts with NFL owners. “See what I can find?”

Another reason Joe hated to see “Rudy!” go was, like Kwon Alexander, Humphries is a good dude. A glue guy, as former Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said. Joe knows Humphries wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea because he wasn’t a PlayStation rock star, but on a team loaded at receiver, Humphries became the most consistent of them all, week-in and week-out. Dude rarely seemed to have a bad game or vanish for a week or two.

Yesterday, a reader of Joe’s on Twitter sniffed that Humphries was a fraud because all he did was catch third-down passes in the fourth quarter. Um, isn’t that what you want from a receiver?

Joe wishes Humphries the best in Tennessee. At least there, he won’t have to worry about running long routes unless Marcus Mariota gets hurt (again).

Joe also knows Humphries’ family was regular readers here. Joe always thinks it’s cool that players’ families read Joe (more do than you may think). Nothing was personal guys. Joe always just tries to have fun when he’s not aggravated by another Bucs’ loss. Thanks for being a loyal reader, Mr. Humphries! Please don’t be a stranger.

  4. Mike Evans Goat Says:

Gonna miss hump. Class act and a great player. Good luck in Tennessee!

  5. Rod Munch Says:

Good luck in Tennessee, and don’t let the fans get to you when you have 500 yards and 3 TDs this season, it’s not on you, it’s on their awful QB.

Anywho Bobo should have a huge smile on his face right now since he should step into Hump’s shoes and do like 97% of the job Hump did, plus be a better returner. That is assuming of course that Bobo doesn’t p/o the new coaching staff on day one and get himself cut.

  6. Kaptain Morgan Says:

Quite the success story to go from undrafted Free Agent to scoring a $9M a year contract. Don’t fault him at all for taking care of himself and his family. Best of luck to you Adam Humphries! Hope to see you again some day in a Bucs uniform again.

  7. firethecannons Says:

Hump was/is one of the very best Buccaneers. Jameis always was able to rely on him, even in the early days. Hump just got better every year. One of my favorite Hump plays was when he scored the touchdown against Dallas at Dallas–I think it was 2016 — it was very smooth. Miss you Hump. Can’t wait to watch you play for the Titans. Well done! and you will always be a Buc.

  8. Anonymous Says:

Thanks for everything, Hump. I hope you continue your successful career. Call me crazy, but I consider Justin Watson to be a bigger, faster version of Hump. Only time will tell if he’ll be as good.

  9. 1sparkybuc Says:

Contrast this reaction to the departure of DJax. Respect is given to those who do their job to the best of their ability without complaint. Hump will be missed.

  10. Pickgrin Says:

  14. Bird Says:

He had his best year in contract year. Smart man.

He should thank Jameis and fitz for making him their check down Charley
His numbers upticked Dramatcially after first few games of the year. 👀

Hopefully the Bucs can draft your twin Hunter Renfrow.

  15. NO RISK IT NO BISCUIT Says:

    Tennessee Ready!

    Tell that to Lovie!

  16. EvolvingBucsfan Says:

You will be missed Hump, thank you for being one of the few bright spots on our team. Congrats you deserve it

  17. Buc believer Says:

I hope he sucks in Tennessee, I hope Tennessee sucks this year and as a point of fact I hope EVERY steam in the league and every player not in the Bucs sucks this year! The ONLY team I give a crap about is my Bucs and as big of a Jameis supporter I am if he left and went to another team I would hope he sucks there too! Sheesh you people that wish a former player well with there new team really baffles me. The ONLY team I give two spits about is the Bucs. Everyone else can kiss my arse!

  18. passthebuc Says:

So far Hump is the only one I am sorry to see go. If Kwon would have been in A1 shape he would fall into that thought.

  19. Buc15 Says:

One of my favorite Bucs of all time. Man it hurts but I’m so happy for Hump. He is a motivation on how you grind your way from the bottom to the top.

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Hump & Family……..I am so very glad you hit a big payday….you deserve it. And I’m also happy that you are able to stay in the South…….You’ll love Nashville…..I was worried you’d end up in Buffalo or Detroit…..good luck. I’ll root for your continued success.

Dude. Do you need a hug or something ? Maybe a friend ? Some better medication? You definitely don’t sound stable.

  22. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

You shed 10 million trading mesean and could not keep one of your best and hardest working players? SHAME ON YOU LICHT BRAIN.

  23. OneBuc55 Says:

Hump was a high effort guy; that being said, I think Watson has a much higher ceiling…

  24. Buc believer Says:

@Bird… LMAO!!! You probably are right dude! It comes from years of watching bad footy by my favorite team. But seriously I really do t give to spits how a player does when he leaves here. I don’t play fantasy football and I have a passion for the Bucs so of course I hope they fail.

  25. Bird Says:

    Buc believer

    All good.

Yah. Hopefully Arians can pull the best magic trick of his career and make the Bucs legit again.

  26. VaTom Says:

Easily the toughest receiver I’ve EVER watched play for the Bucs. He took hits and held on to the ball when most of the prima Donna’s would have short armed the ball. Nice getting a chance to watch him play. I don’t think we will be able to replace his reliability.

  27. BringBucsBack Says:

Definitely the kind of guy one routes for. Keep Humpin’!

  28. Nick2 Says:

True class act I am sad he will not be here any longer. Sometimes you get bitter when a player leaves but he deserves all the riches he gets. A great player and I was in the stadium against the Lions when he returned that kickoff for a touchdown an unbelievable play which showed what he can really do. Thank you Adam for all you did for us and congrats on your signing!!! We will miss you more than we realize.

  29. joestang Says:

good luck adam, you deserve a payday.

  30. ATrain Says:

    Awesome NFL player

Good Luck Humphries you are a true professional
Know you will do great and deserve that contract

Wish the Bucs would have kept you but will still watch and will be a fan of Hump

  31. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

Lots of fans upset at the FO about losing Hump and Kwon.

Im upset we lost them of course, both favorites of mine. They earned their paydays, but as far as actually allocating the salary cap they are not close to being worth the money they got. Paying them that would be an AWFUL choice.

This is generally the nature of the league. Patriots let these type of players go too.

You wrap up your elite players and others that you can get at a good deal for their worth (see D.Smith, LVD) and you replace the other good talent that would not be an efficient use of funds (Hump, Kwon, and honestly Brate should be in this list too)

  32. 813bucboi Says:

surprised brate isnt gone yet or hasnt restructured…..brate and GMC need to restructure….

    REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  33. Mike Johnson Says:

Props to yas Hump. Make your paper my man! He will be an asset to the Titans.

  34. unbelievable Says:

Def gonna miss him, but happy for the guy.

Hard work and dedication pays off. Hope were able to find replacement production.

  35. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Bumphries is gone! Woo hoo! Go fumble away games for someone else. Easielly replaceable! Go Bucs!

  36. Barack's Crack Pipe Says:

Hey Big Hump! Lemme hold a dollar!
