Ramon Foster & The Bucs

February 22nd, 2019

The Bucs are desperate for a quick fix at guard.

Right now, all they’ve got is Ali Marpet and two guys who couldn’t beat out porous Caleb Benenoch, plus playing-out-of-position Benenoch himself.

Yesterday on the Ira Kaufman Podcast, Joe revealed a yearning for the Bucs to sign 33-year-old Steelers guard Ramon Foster the minute he hits free agency — if he hits free agency — in 19 short days.

Foster has a been a rock for the Steelers since Bucco Bruce Arians was their offensive coordinator. Last year, Foster skipped training camp but played every snap of the regular season and drew just two penalties on a Steelers line widely considered the best in the business.

“He’s been awesome,” Steelers four-time Pro Bowl guard David DeCastro said of Foster, per TribLive.com. “He’s been as steady as ever. He always brings a good laugh to the party, and he gets serious when he needs to be. He does a great job of being that leader in the locker room. He’s the guy you see and look up to since I’ve been here.

Reports said Arians and his Cardinals were after Foster back in 2013. How making the most of a second chance, Bruce?

Foster has played left guard and right guard in his career, but Joe has no problem moving Marpet back to the right side if that’s what it takes to lure Foster, who shouldn’t be terribly expensive considering his age. There’s a lot of speculation in Pittsburgh that he’ll move on for his first big pay day.

Might he command $10 million guaranteed over two years? He earned roughly $3 million last season.

Foster just feels like exactly like the kind of free agent offensive lineman the Bucs need, a guy they can trust and a culture-changer who has proven himself at the highest level. This isn’t like signing one-year wonder Ryan Jensen or retaining injured J.R. Sweezy when he could have been cut.

Joe can dream.

you could put Anthony Munoz at guard and with dotson next to him he’d look lost… the entire right side of the line needs to be working at golden coral next year not for the bucs….

  2. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Draft All-World Guard/Center Prospect Elgton Jenkins; in the 2nd Round.

  3. Jonzey Says:

    Sign him please

  4. LUVMYBUCS Says:

At worse sign a 4 year vet.

    Exampels:
    • Jamon Brown G 26 NYG ←
    • A.J. Cann G 27 JAC
    • Max Garcia G 27 DEN
    • Quinton Spain G 28 TEN

  5. tmaxcon Says:

    Luv

Max Garcia would be a nice pickup. not flashy but solid. won’t matter if he has to play next to Dotson though…

  6. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

The bucs and FA guards have been a miserable experience under licht and the rockstar…i guess most FA have been as well but the guards stick out like a sore toe

  7. Wombat Says:

    Sign him….

  8. Easy Says:

I’d love this signing to have a solid veteran O-Line.

  9. StoutGospel Says:

    @LUV…

    “exampels”…examples? lol. just joshin.

AJ Cann had a long injury history with Jax over 2 seasons. Garcia is going to be re-signed in DEN via beat reporters. Have you watched Eli running for his life on the NYG Oline?…neah Brown. Spain maybe, but they struggled mightily to pass protect for Mariota running for his life too.

Foster here would be a wise addition, little old though.

I’m gonna roll with Matt Paradis, fully recovered from freak foot injury last year in DEN. All-world rated Center, who can play BOTH Guard positions, never missed a game prior, age 29…four years younger than Foster.

    Go Bucs!

  10. Bucsfanman Says:

At 33, he’s a little long in the tooth. I’d feel a lot more comfortable with somebody younger, like LUVS “Exampels”! LOL!

  11. Darin Says:

    Luvmybucs
Just watched some tape on Elgton last night. I like that guy. He sure looks the part too. I’m down with Garcia or even Iupati. Could then draft RT instead. Definitely need at least 2 new Oline starters.

  12. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Sign (FA)
    • Jamon Brown (Age:25) OG Louisville 6′ 6″ 340

    Draft:
    • Elgton Jenkins C/G Mississippi State 6′ 4″ 304
    • Tytus Howard OT Alabama State 6′ 6″ 310
    • Bobby Evans* OT Oklahoma 6′ 4″ 312
Honorable Mention: Isaiah Prince, Michael Jordan

    Potential Depth Chart
    LT Leonard Wester |Bobby Evans
LG Ali Marpet | Michael Liedtke
OC Ryan Jensen | Elgton Jenkins
RG Jamon Brown | Elgton Jenkins
LT Demar Dotson | Tytus Howard

Focus most of you assets on retooling this defense.

  13. Lord Cornelius Says:

Combine should hopefully help shape draft boards a bit better, but right now my general hope for the draft alone:

Option A: Draft Nick Bosa, Quennen Williams, Josh Allen or maybe even Devin White at 5. BPA DL/OL R2-R3 landing at least a starting OG upgrade. RB R4.

Option C: Trade down and get another 2 and or 3.
R1- BPA DL or OL or White if he falls
    R2- BPA DL or OL
    R2- BPA DL or OL
    R3 -BPA DL or OL
    R3/R4 – RB

Optoin C with landing Devin White or Ed Oliver would be my current ideal scenario. OG in round 2 that has pro bowl potential. RB in round 4 or later and stay on the lineman/front 7 those first 3-4 rounds

  14. 813bucboi Says:

foster would be a wise move….i could see him being that strong veteran presents the same way logan mankins was….

i would be happy any of LUV’s choices too….

i hope we draft tytus howard and chuma edoga tho….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  15. down in the dirt Doug Says:

Hope that BA and his staff are taking the lead in free agency with Licht advising–not the other way around!!Drop some of our players, asap, and go bold in free agency.Too many of are fans are in love with the players.SEE YA 10 TO 12 PLAYERS!!

  16. SammyRebel Says:

Agree with getting rid of Dotson, Cappa or someone in this draft should be our RT

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We could always check to see if Carl Nicks’ big toe has healed.

  18. Bird Says:

Younger solid guys cost more. Not rocket science.

That is reasonable number. Guards can play into mid 30’s
We can’t pay big bucks for every guy o line. 3-5 mil for solid guy is worth it.

  19. firethecannons Says:

The dude looks obscenely huge in that pic–I can tell from the picture alone he is a huge upgrade over Beneneoch I don’t need to know anything else–LOL!

  20. Defense Rules Says:

I’m now of the mindset that we need a veteran Guard with superb leadership skills (like Logan Mankins?) but what we don’t need is a 1 or 2 year bridge who’s 33 years old. Sign a solid veteran guard who’s just starting their 2nd contract & who’s shown solid leadership skills. Someone our younger OLine can grow with.

  21. Stanglassman Says:

That guy looks like he’s got a 2nd pair of legs hanging off his shoulders.

  22. PLEASE CHOOSE A DIFFERENT HANDLE Says:

On the on the decline.Cann is average, at best.

  23. MHBuc1 Says:

Good lord some people never learn. Rinse. Repeat. Then bitch about it. Sign more OL guys off the scrap heap. Rinse. Repeat.

    DRAFT. Do it right.

  24. AleteredEgo Says:

    Nope….

  25. Alanbucsfan Says:

All the best playoff teams DRAFTED their OLine
Bucs have a history of getting played by free agent Linemen

  26. firethecannons Says:

    Stanglass–funny comment!-still laughing–so true–those arms are tree trunks.

  27. Tvan1011 Says:

Tmax you must be a very miserable depressed person.

  28. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Would love to have him but 10 mil is a lot to offer when we only have 16 mil left, especially with us now keeping McCoy.

  29. Dubcity06 Says:

Hope the Bucs front office does the right thing and drafts OL early and often

  30. Owlykat Says:

Go with Iupati who has played for BA in Arizona and will take a reasonable offer to play for BA again and knowing BA will make 10 wins his first year and will be a great leader. Play him at LG and move Marpet back at RG where he can compete for the Pro Bowl this year.

  31. Owlykat Says:

Do a medical exam of Dotson to make sure his knee injury last year that he played through is now solid. If yes don’t cut him. He didn’t become a starter earlier in his career. He had to be developed from a basketball player; so there are more years left for him. Look how long our rejected LT played as a solid starter for Oakland when we made the huge mistake of hiring clueless Warhop. Dotson played solid for us a lot of last year. Don’t cut Dotson and then watch him start and play solid for another team for four years!
