Playbook Thieved

February 24th, 2019

Victim.

It seems Bucs running back Peyton Barber was robbed of some valuable items Friday night in Atlanta. Among the items was an NFL playbook.

That’s the word from Michael Seiden of WSB-TV Channel 2 in Atlanta. Per Seiden’s report, Barber, who is from the Atlanta area, had his vehicle broken into by a “group” of hoodlums in the Buckhead area of Atlanta.

Among Barber’s possessions lifted were Barber’s passport and his Bucs playbook. Barber’s vehicle was one of many that were broke into early Saturday morning.

A few things here:

1. Why did Barber need a passport in Atlanta? Those things are valuable (for obvious reasons). What is he doing stashing that thing in his rig in Georgia?

2. One could ask the same thing about the playbook but this alone also has more questions. What playbook? Was it former Bucs coach Dirk Koetter’s playbook? Was it new Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians’ playbook? Further, how did Barber get an Arians playbook? Coaches are to have very limited contact with players until offseason condition begins April 1. Or did Barber get his hands on a playbook of Arians’ from his Cardinals days? Besides, Joe would be a bit surprised if the Bucs have crafted a 2019 playbook before the end of February.

Joe believes it is safe to toss out there that the culprits of this crime did not include SnoopDog McPlaybook or Ronald Jones.

I hope that it was Dirk’s. Go Bucs.

  2. unbelievable Says:

    Seriously, hopefully it was Dirks

  3. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

It was wiped, there is no way they don’t have fail safes for this kind of thing.

  4. Buddy Says:

Buckhead hasn’t been the same since Ray Lewis killed that guy on that Sunday night after the super bowl. Such a shame. Used to be a great place now ghetto as fk.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

What happens to playbooks AFTER a coach gets fired Joe? Do the players get to keep them as memorabilia? Do they get collected & destroyed? Does the coach retrieve them & take them with him? Maybe it really was Dirk’s playbook & Barber is hoping to sign with Atlanta? So many unanswered questions … you’ve opened up Pandora’s Box Joe.

  6. D1 Says:

    Defense rules,

I have to doubt that there was a playbook in his car. Reason is that I can’t imagine a pro team having a “play book”. Fact is, very few college or high schools even issue a playbook. It’s all on computers these days. The idea of a printed playbook issued by a team is akin to being issued a leather helmet to anyone under the age of 30. Something they only heard about.

What most likely happened is his notebook, ie, computer notebook, was stolen from the vehicle. The notebook contained the playbook. Frankly, I am surprised that the team would allow for it to be downloaded by a player. If this is the case, somebody needs to be fired in the it dept.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It could have been a different kind of “Play-Book”……you know, the one like Sapp carries around.

  8. Not there yet Says:

I thought playbooks went digital for this team so it should be protected or they should be able to erase it

  9. StoutGospel Says:

    @Not There Yet…

You are correct sir. All playbooks today for all NFL teams are delivered via an iPad to all players. Th teams can update/download the playbook as needed remotely to each iPad, and each iPad is password-protected, so no harm here, short of the hoodlums being an ex-software engineer hack….unlikely to say the least. The hoodlums stole the iPad cuz well its an iPad thinking they could fence it.

    Likely much ado about nuthin!

    Go Bucs!

  10. Rob Tanner Says:

It’s not BA playbook. How can you have a playbook when you don’t know what your players can’t do vs can do. No way it’s the current playbook.

  11. Ndog Says:

Here is an update from Profootball Talk:

UPDATE 12:11 a.m. ET 2/23/19: Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the tablet didn’t contain any current Buccaneers playbook when stolen. The old playbook had been removed, and the new playbook had yet to be loaded onto it. Also, the team was immediately notified about the theft, so that any lingering information could have been wiped clean.

  13. Mort Says:

Joe it was almost certainly an iPad and not a bunch of paper bound together. And they use those to watch video and self scout things too.
The players typically have both, paper and a Surface.–Joe

I really doubt Arians has gotten playbooks to very many players at this point.

He;s got a lot on his plate, and I think they usually give them out post draft.

Joe- “Why did he need a passport in Atlanta?”
What are you some type of super sleuth? Sounds suspicious….., Who cares?!?! Mind your own business and and give me a break! I realize it’s the end of slow season for you- get it together. There is no slow season on JoeBucsFan.com. That’s not the mind set here or the reality. Joe cares; he plays for the Bucs. It was interesting. Most important, it was in the news story. Joe didn’t request this information. –Joe

  25. AlteredEgo Says:

Lots of reasons to carry a passport….it is the offseason…Bahamas…Mexico…Jamaica …anywhere out of the US a flight or a cruise away…

  26. rrsrq Says:

  31. D1 Says:

    Rrsrq,

Do you hit the clubs in buck?

I’m guessing buddy is strictly speaking of clubs and nite life.. Blaming ray Lewis for the beginning of a cultural shift of an area is ….imaginative. ….to say the least. But it doesn’t qualify as racist.
