It Makes Too Much Sense

February 4th, 2019

RB Kareem Hunt.

The time has come for reasoned thought and unemotional analysis.

If disgraced running back Kareem Hunt becomes eligible to play in the NFL, there is no valid reason why the Bucs should not pursue him.

In fact, there is no valid reason not to sign Hunt if NFL strongman Roger Goodell deems him worthy of playing in his league.

Yes, 23-year-old Hunt did an awful thing, and it is why he is currently unemployed. You don’t get into a physical altercation with a woman. Period. This is just despicable.

However, the Bucs are taking themselves to the cleaners if they do not pursue a top talent at a position of great need. Hunt has 2,151 yards and 15 touchdowns in just 27 NFL games.

Joe used to be on the choir boy bandwagon. No need for skunks on the Bucs. But so many players the Bucs got rid of as bad characters have gone on to have damn good careers with other teams and even play in Super Bowls while the Bucs continue to be moored in Buccaneers Cove (last place in the NFC South).

Joe can go on and on about players who have done terrible things or seemingly had their careers wrecked only to bounce back and redeem themselves professionally and personally. Why should Hunt be any different? Why should he be condemned for life? He’s already paying a massive price for his deeds and likely will continue to do so in the near future.

Why not turn a negative into a massive positive? Hunt, per an ESPN report, entered daily anger management counseling several months ago.

If the Bucs should sign Hunt, the Bucs should require Hunt to help raise money and awareness for abused women and women’s shelters. Heck, the Bucs themselves could host these events.

The Bucs need a running back (maybe two) unless new coach Bucco Bruce Arians believes Ronald Jones can be salvaged. Joe loves the heart Peyton Barber displays but please do not confuse effort with production. Bucs running backs produced awfully last year (once again).

Also, Hunt, who was linked to the Bucs coming out of Toledo, would come cheap due to his past deeds and this makes him coming to Tampa Bay even more of a smart move. The Bucs don’t have a lot of salary cap space.

You add it all up, and signing Hunt just makes too much sense. In fact, it would be downright dumb if the Bucs don’t pursue Hunt.

Hey, it was just a hassle.
    Forgive and forget right Joe?

  2. Dapostman Says:

Off topic but that Jared Goff sure looked bad without a running game or an OL that can pass block. Kinda reminds me of a certain team and QB right here in Tampa, FL.

Thank you Rams for proving once again that football is a team sport.

Back on topic, I agree the Bucs should look into Hunt. Everybody deserves a second chance after paying the price for their first screwup.

  3. Todd Says:

Kareem will be signed by the Bucs. I have inside info on that. Also inside info on how the Bucs will trade down in the draft not just once, but twice…and we’ll still either get one of two studs we badly need. Everyone in here will think Licht is a genius. Save this post. I’m right.

  4. AlteredEgo Says:

RoJo…was Licht’s substitute for missing out on Sony Michel
    but
I have both feet on the Kareem Hunt bandwagon….

  5. StoutGospel Says:

It does make too much sense, and like most things player additions to the squad, Licht will wait to see what the waters are like out there, before sticking his toe in to ya know, create the ripples to RB success for the 2019 Buccaneers. There really isn’t much downside at all, to signing Hunt now, even with the investigation findings to come out, versus the upside of possibly only a 2-3 game suspension (even factoring in perhaps prior incidents discovered in the NFL’s investigation). Just structure the contract on a per game active roster bonus basis mostly, and raise that compensation to ward off the Bears and Eagles.

Licht is in a save-face/PC/back-peddling modus operandi right now and in 2019, having been spared the unemployment line, and hence the hiring of Arians and company by phoning a friend to save him. Dude is looking for as few ripples as possible, become the woodwork on the wall. Disgusting.

So don’t hold your breath Buc faithful….

  6. Conte Piscatelli Says:

My thoughts on these players who get in trouble like Hunt for stupid physical altercations, with anybody. I don’t care if I it’s with a girlfriend, wife, some random Grandma or a cabbie. They need the wake-up call of being cut and having to really worry that the privilege of being able to get rich playing sports isn’t guaranteed. Many of these young kids get the wake-up call and go on to be model citizens moving forward. I think the chiefs did Hunt a favor cutting him, and some team will sign him and keep him on a short leash for a bit, make sure it was a dumb mistake, and you didn’t just sign Lawrence Phillips. People deserve a second chance to prove they learned from the mistake, just make sure you are prepared if they didn’t learn.

    Todd

I’m down. Hunt is a 23-year old All Star that do a lot of stupid sh!t when they’re thrown tons of cash and fame at them. No way am I condemning what he did, but it’s a sign of immatureness that sounds like can be helped out with by a good, no BS coach and organization like the Bucs. And if anyone else doesn’t wanna believe there are so many more of these roided out, multi millionaire pro athletes that don’t show violence and aggression towards women, you’re an idiot. He just got caught on film. Needed a young breakout RB since Cadillac which ended so sadly. RADEAM KAREEM AND BRING HIM TO TAMPA BAY!!!

  8. RODNEY J ALLEN Says:

Dapostman love how u threw that in there cant agree more n I would love to have hunt but we would still need another rb cuz he’ll likely be suspended for 6 to 10 games. Unless BA can get RJ on the right track n get our oline blocking better for barber to have some real holes instead of being hit in the backfield

  9. jjbucfan Says:

Todd I doubt you’re correct (things like that don’t happen for Bucs fans, LOL), but I hope as hell you are, that is the best case scenario. If one of those happens it will be great for the Bucs. If he gets suspended for 6 games, who cares? For Jameis to be able to dump off passes to a back like Hunt would be like at FSU with Cook- Sure handed guy that can take it to the house. Barber has decent enough hands and runs hard and I think Arians will find creative ways to get RoJo involved on the edges. Warhop being fired will be the greatest thing to happen to the Bucs since the Mike Smith firing, LOL. Everything is trending up.

  10. AlteredEgo Says:

Hey..Joes let me out of the cooler…I have never posted anything that would have all my posts in moderation

  11. SOEbuc Says:

    Todd

And I love the idea to trade back twice in the first. Likely to end up with AT LEAST three 2nd round picks and three-four 3rd round picks. And like the first round with DL, the second round is filled with top-notch OL.

  12. 813bucboi Says:

what joe mixon did was worse imo….he sat out a year and then was drafted….i think KH served his time and the bucs should sign him…..along with drafting darrell hernderson-RB-memphis….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  13. miken Says:

    IS Hunt really that good?
KC picked up williams off the street…. the street, not practice squad or a roster and he put up as good of numbers that Hunt did.

  14. SOEbuc Says:

    @813bucboi

No need at all for Henderson unless you’re gonna let PB go, which would be stupid.

    @miken

Get blockers and yes, he is that good by a long shot. Bringing in other guys that play well don’t mean these guys are not still pro bowlers. People were talking like Le’Veon Bell being over rated when Conner started playing. Don’t think so.

  15. Vico Says:

Miken, I agree, he might have been productive because of the system.

  16. SOEbuc Says:

Does anyone remember when Ray Lewis murdered that guy? He should’ve at least gotten 6 games for that.

  17. Sunday_44 Says:

Andy Reid said they knew what they had in Hunt’s 1st training camp.
    Dude is a stud.
    It aint the system!!

    I’m in the system???
Yo man, I’m in the system!!!

  18. Mike10 Says:

To be fair to every Bucs RB over the past season, our run blocking is garbage including the blocking dummy at RG.

  19. Pryda..sec147 Says:

    Hunt won’t play NFL again

  20. Mitch Says:

My wife works with dv rape and human trafficking survivors. I would boycott if this young man played for Tampa until the sale of the team to a new owner.

  21. Anon Says:

Ship DJax and a pick to LA for Gurley, since they clearly have lost interest in him!

  22. tmaxcon Says:

sign Kareem hunt right now…. I love watching the snowflakes and liberal hypocrites lose their minds… nothing better…. only thing more laughable than the bucfan choir boy patrol are the actual results the glazers have produced with choir boys.

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I’m not against signing Kareem Hunt, but it’s not going to happen.

I’m not against signing Kareem Hunt, but it’s not going to happen.

with bonzi making another assinine assumption you can go ahead and pencil in the Kareem Hunt signing soon as they work out the details with the commissioner. One thing for sure if bonzi guarantees it won’t happen it’s going to happen…. bonzi guaranteed 10 wins every year since he has been here… bonzi you are my opposite I am always right and you have never been right.

  25. 813bucboi Says:

    SOE

what if hunt goes down….we’ll have barber and who, rojo and wilson again…drafting d.henderson would create great depth….from a quality and quantity perspective….and hopefully light a fire under rojo….competition brings out the best…..

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  26. Bruce Blahak Says:

    Makes no sense…he’s trouble…

  27. TOM Says:

Quit wasting time & sign Hunt. Deserves a second chance, but will be on thin ice.

  28. Todd Says:

Here’s the inside draft strategy (not certain what additional picks we’ll get in return, but here’s the inside baseball). Bucs negotiate #5 with Jacksonville and the Giants (both eager to trade up to get their QB). Bucs trade #5 for the Giants #6. Light does the same drill with Jacksonville and Denver…Bucs trade #6 for Jacksonville’s #7. Two QBs go at #5 and #6 and we select an offensive or defensive line stud at #7…the same one we would have chosen at #7…except now we have multiple more draft picks this year and next.

  29. Todd Says:

Sorry, the same one we would have chosen at #5.

    And Licht not Light.

  30. Darkwing Buc Says:

Take a knee never play again, and you’re hated. Physically or sexually assault a woman, and it’s all good come on down and play for the Bucs. Gross.

  31. Jim Says:

I think Arians has too much character to pick up Hunt and I may be wrong. We’ll see…

  32. tmaxcon Says:

    todd

every time the Bucs try and outsmart themselves they screw it up and achieve yet another basement title… nice assumptions but no one knows what will take place regardless of inside assumptions from your friend the janitor.

  33. tmaxcon Says:

    Jim

men of strong character give young men second chances and provide positive leadership and mentorship….. On the other hand, religious hypocrite men of character (i.e. dungy the clown, lovie smith) rather judge others while labeling people that don’t subscribe to their cult views rather than actually spend the time to give a young man a legit second chance. It just depends if you are a true man of character or a hypocrite cult member….

  34. Phil Says:

If the guy can play sign him. We don’t need a bunch of boy scouts & choir boys.

  35. __TGH__ Says:

Thank you! Keep banging this drum… make JL hear it.

  36. firethecannons Says:

Bet that the Rams sign him
    absolutely Bucs should sign

  37. Smashsquatch Says:

I’m not sold on Hunt as a difference maker. Rojo would’ve looked good in that offense, and he even avoids contact. We just finished a year in which Winston’s suspension, at the start of the season, derailed team focus. Repeating that mistake isn’t high on my list. Hunt will likely be suspended for a significant amount of games to start the season, and all the talk will be about Hunt, just like Winston last off-season. Same crap on who to give reps to in camp, pre-season games, blah, blah, blah…. Pass on Hunt, RBs grow on trees, and Arians will point Licht to the right forest.

  38. tmaxcon Says:

    Smashsquatch

if talented players grow on trees why have the bucs been an embarrassment for nearly 2 decades and without a single meaningful win…

  39. Joe in Michigan Says:

This does make a ton of sense. The only way we don’t pursue him is if the Glazers nix it, which I could see them doing because of public perception. I’m for his signing if the kid has learned his lesson. It seems more likely that we sign CJ Anderson or Adrian Peterson (unless we discriminate because of his age).

I can see the goody goody Glazers throwing water on the fire.

  45. JabooBuc Says:

Todd – thanks for passing along this “inside” information. Pretty sure the rest of us could have made the same claims or projections without the help of an “insider”.

Just curious, how can the Bucs sign Hunt when we don’t even know his current status with the NFL? Also, while i am all for a trade down strategy during the draft, you need a dance partner and someone willing to make a deal. There is no way you could possibly know or have inside information on that this far away from the draft. So…I am just going to go ahead and call BS on the insider thing.

  46. Joeypoppems Says:

Its the same debate as Joe Mixon 2 years ago.

I was pro Mixon then. I am pro Hunt now. I just dont think Licht will be.

  47. Darin Says:

He does deserve a second chance. Not sure about here tho. We will see. Im more worried about the awful run blocking Oline than the RB position. The same 5 trot out there it doesnt matter who the rb is. Upgrade 3 Oline spots and it’ll be fine.

  48. ed Says:

I’d pass, so much of the success of players is in their mental approach and ability to jell with teammates. After watching an inferior offense vs a superior defense in the Super Bowl last night roll up the field with an old quarterback throwing to a broken down tight end and an undersized receiver with average speed making the plays they needed vs better athletes I’m convinced you have to have team unity and players believing in each other to succeed.

How can they believe in Hunt when he couldn’t even respect a woman and beat on her. Are other players going to believe in him? Is he mentally tough? No way is he the kind of person who you can trust to do the right things.

Any man that beats up a woman isn’t a man and having a great team requires having great men.

Plus running backs are easy to find. The problem with Jones and you could see it in his film was the upright running style (like Charles Sims and Michael Pittman) and lack of lower body strength. Rogers was simply too old. The Bucs have been horrible at scouting and coaching running backs. I’m confident Arians will find some decent rbs without having to worry about another player that has off the field issues.

  49. RustyRhinos Says:

Hey MITCH, did Mr. Hunt rape anyone, was he trafficking women as well? I get it your wife works with some women who have had those things done to them. But I only seen Mr. Hunt shove a woman and kick at her I do not even think it hit her. So why would you base your wife’s profession as to what team you follow? I could see it if Mr. Hunt was accused tried and convicted of rape or human trafficking. But he has not done either one so far as we know. Yes he did make a mistake and put his hands on a female witch I agree is wrong to do. But to clump his deeds with the things your spouse deals with is not connecting with me. Can you elaborate?

  50. WalkdaPlank Says:

We need draft picks for O-lineman, otherwise getting a running back is useless unless he’s Barry Sanders.

Signing Hunt is the most ideal thing, he will most likely be suspended so have Barber run behind the new O-line until he’s free and then watch the magic happen, hopefully.

I don’t condone his actions but some Bucs fans are acting like he is Chris Brown or Ray Rice when that is not the case.

  51. stpetebucsfan Says:

Just to be clear. This is NOT JUST about the incident with the woman. Hunt was involved in three violent incidents last year. A pattern?
Just sayin’. Google if you need to.

So Deondre Francois dismissed from the Noles for domestic violence.

This is now a big issue for the NFL and all of major football…colleges and pro.

We’d have two players on our roster who have already been suspended and will surely get the boot for the next incident. Literally ONE incident away from being banned for a LONG time! Isn’t it enough to worry about one? How many do we wish to baby sit?

Is this the ONLY solution or simply the most expedient?

  52. Joeypoppems Says:

    @stpete

Tevin Coleman is imo the most attractive rb in fa. Productive and young plus he will be cheaper than Bell and no suspension coming like with Hunt

  53. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Joey

Works for me! Bell is a generational talent but not a team player and far too expensive.

I’m coming to believe that the success of next year’s running game will be far more dependent on our OL than whichever RB’s we end up with and I like Payton a lot anyway.

If we improve the line we could easily plug and play Coleman.

  54. SOEbuc Says:

    813bucboi

You’re talking about 5 RBs on the roster. They’re not going to let RoJo go and would be very stupid to cut Wilson before the end of preseason unless he got injured again. I think Wilson has major potential. Amazing college career with all the tools to be the breakout RB the Bucs need. He had a great TC and PS. Before he went down, he sh!t on RoJo stats with only 6 carries vs RoJo’s 22. Would love to see him be the next Licht UDFA diamond in the rough.

  55. SOEbuc Says:

Wilson’s game actually reminds me of Hunt’s.

  56. T REX Says:

Let’s add another guy that disrespects women. LOL. I am asure there are idiots clamoring for Darby too.
