Mike Evans: I Want DeSean Jackson Back

January 23rd, 2019

Pro Bowl practice kicked off for the NFC squad and Mike Evans today at Disney World, and after the yawner of a walk-through ended, Evans spoke to assembled media and said he wants DeSean Jackson back on the Buccaneers next season.

Evans plans to talk to D-Jack and recruit him a bit, he said. Meanwhile, Jackson already is under contract, which adds to all the silliness surrounding the Jackson nonsense.

Joe had an intense chat with Cowboys defensive playcaller Kris Richard about the Bucs offense after practice. Richard interviewed for the Buccaneers’ head coaching gig and the Cowboys staff is coaching the NFC squad.

It was interesting. Richard didn’t even mention Jackson when discussing the strengths of the Bucs.

This is going to be good…..

be careful Mike you will offend the snowflake fan base that is terrified of personalty and talent…

  3. DI Says:

I am curious of the context in which Mike Evans gave his answer. If he was asked “would he like Djax back?”, his answer would obviously be, “YES!”. But if the question was “is there any players that possibly could be leaving that you would want to stay?” and he mentioned Djax, I’d be a little more inclined to give weight to this answer.

  4. BucEmUp Says:

Evansnisnt goingnto publickly make him.look worse than djax already has for himself. This means nothing

  5. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

he fact that he has to be recruited is why he needs to go. The man is under contract…no recruiting needed.

He either plays or sits out if he stays.

But I hope he goes. I have since he was signed.

    @DI

    Excellent point. Context matters.

  7. Jean Lafitte Says:

Evans understands how valuable is to have a teammate that can take some of the pressure off of him. Regardless whether Jameis can ever be accurate with him or not Djax commands his share of attention usually CB, and FS. Without a receiver like Djax the defense would roll coverage to Evans every game. Especially since BA and Leftwich use the long ball a lot. Godwin is good but nowhere the speed as Djax and would probably be defended with one man. Djax commands attention all the time, and Evans knows this.

Context only matters if it fits your agenda…

  9. zzbuc Says:

Harder to swallow coming from Evans mouth……Seemed to me 13 was an old fashion type of player who though as I do, that players play, coaches coach and managers manage…….. I guess I am Rome, and I hope as DI said, this question was out of context……….And by the way, if somethings out there we do not need is D Jax and his gigantic ego……

  10. #1bucfan Says:

@jean you make a great point but 13 will just need to step his game up to the next level which I have complete confidence he will an that will make him one of the best to play the position an the other receivers will need to step there games up also an I’m ok with that we honestly don’t need any selfish players that play just for themselves

  11. tmaxcon Says:

this is awesome you fools terrified of personality and talent are blowing your minds and trying to assume why evans said it creating unique assumptions… awesome… djax is a talented player the bucs orgazintion is a cirucs. djax is not the probalme the orgazintion is… no one is more terrified of perosnaklites and talent than caree losing choir boy loving lbucfan…

  12. Dewey Selmon Says:

Mike knows DJax isn’t coming back, he is being political as not to burn bridges. It’s called being a professional. What did you think he was going to say? lol

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Mike….how much of your salary are you willing to donate to the cause….

As a matter of fact…..most every Buc player should kick in. That’s the only way it would make sense to keep him.

  14. Bucsfan951 Says:

Great point jean but can Winston build the chemistry with Jackson? 2 years in and they still can’t connext regularly. I think in this instance, it has to be addition by subtraction. Let Jackson go (obviously try and trade him) and try to find a burner who can take the top off the defense. Might as well roll with Godwin at 2 this year and see how that goes.

  15. AlteredEgo Says:

Why didn’t Licht trade him so we didn’t have to talk about this and move onto arguing over what to do with the pick…

  16. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Thats his buddy of course he is going to say that to help him get more cheddar from a team next year

  17. tmaxcon Says:

opinions are one thing but this is freaking awesome…. ugh oh a favorite likes an enemy of the sheep

  18. JimmyJack Says:

You figure out what Jackson wants and give it to him. If he wants to be in Tampa and work hard them you keep him in the lockerroom in on board.

If he don’t wanna be here then the problem solves itself. You can’t keep players in the lockerroom who don’t wanna be here.

  19. Jean Lafitte Says:

^^^I don’t think it’s Djax as much as it is some of our local media people throwing Djax under the bus. Seems no-one inside the Buc’s org are down on him only butt hurt reporters that want to make it all about some hate for JW. manufactured BS controversy.

  20. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    Haha Suck that Joe

Mike Evans has some common sense unlike the rest of you

  21. JimmyJack Says:

Yes Jean. Local media rubs me the wrong way. Most will fool you into thing they give a crap but they are not even Buc fans….still rooting for their yankee teams.

That right there tells you their a bunch of phonys. Just like with Sciano they will ruin his name based on nothing more they their ego.

Wish these yankees would get off our radios.

  22. Bird Says:

    The smear campaign continues.

    “Nobody touches my man”

    Xoxo

    Love joe ❤️

  23. JimmyJack Says:

I rest assured knowing Bruce Arians cares about one thing and one thing only………Does Jackson wanna be here and work hard.

That’s how he will make his decision. Arians seems smart enough to know that media members whining has no bearing on the situation……I’m sure lockerroom issues can cause problems like the ones with Jackson…..if they are not managed well.

Bruce knows what he’s doing and knows how to manage a lockerroom. You won’t hear stories like this coming out of a BA lockerroom. Dirk has had a ton of behavioral issues on his team. This is going to end with BA.

This is why you must consider a guy like Jackson. Forget what he did in that garbage environment Dirk was running. Bruce is bring a different environment. It can and does make a difference.

  24. Mike Evans Goat Says:

I don’t doubt for a second that Desean Jackson is a weapon on this ram. But he is a locker room cancer. If BA can straighten him out then that’s fine. But I think we can find a speedster to take the top off the defense in this years draft. And Godwin isn’t much slower than DJax. He is plenty fast, faster than 80% of the bro right now. DJax ran a 4.35. Godwin ran a 4.42. Antonio brown ran a 4.47. Godwin has the speed

  25. Jim Says:

More evidence that among people who count, keeping Jackson is a priority. It’s clearly the case that he improves the offense in multiple ways, so the question becomes why does the NFL’s worst franchise want to drive off a talented triple bowler?

  26. JimmyJack Says:

Jim they can’t drive his off if he’s running away.

  27. 813bucboi Says:

why was the chat “intense”?…..or was it “passion”….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  28. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Djax running routes for the deep ball kept double coverage off Evans- of course he wants him to return.

  29. Pickgrin Says:

    Mike Evans Goat Says:
“Godwin isn’t much slower than DJax. He is plenty fast, faster than 80% of the bro right now. DJax ran a 4.35. Godwin ran a 4.42. Antonio brown ran a 4.47. Godwin has the speed.”

Godwin not only has speed – he is a much more complete receiver than DJax. Bigger, stronger, better vertical jumper, vastly wider catch radius, fights for the ball in the air as well as anyone…. Yea can’t in honesty say any of those things about DeSean Jackson.

Yes, Godwin had a bit of a sophomore slump in a couple games last year – but still had 842 yards on 59 catches – 62% catch rate and 14.3 yards per touch. This as the 2B, 3rd or 4th receiver a good bit of 2018.

This stellar 3rd rd pick from Penn State is ready to BUST OUT coming into year three as a Buccaneer. Book it!

This is why you draft talent over need. Because it pays off in the end. 2 years ago we had no choice but to pay a king’s ransom for DJax – seemingly. But now- we don’t need to pay market value+++ for a quickly aging speedster with well documented “attitude” problems.

DJax is an expensive, one-trick luxury the Bucs can no longer afford. Unless you are willing to start gutting the already talent deficient defensive side of the ball and cut/trade McCoy and LD54 which would be pretty stupid IMO.

And on top of all that – the dude has obviously been a bit of a problem in the locker room. Late too often, sleeping in meetings – not taking notes nor paying attention like he should when the team is trying to prepare for the upcoming opponent… these are not the actions of a professional nor a man who cares about his craft.

    SeeYa…..

  30. martinii Says:

Jameis has no problem getting the ball to Evans. Godwin, Hump, Brate or OJ. There is simply a problem with DJAX (possibly speed or size) So IMO you let go your deep threat diversion and find a player in FA or the draft that matches Jameis’s chemistry. I was impressed with another Godwin III that played in the Shrine game. Good but not great speed.

  31. Kobe Faker Says:

“MEME EVANS…The most overrated kneeler in the NFL!

“I cant YAC so I YAP” Evans cant run routes, cant run after catch,

the most pass interference, cant block, cant out physical a slot corner, cant catch short passes…

19 million dollars per year? This punk is overpaid 10 million dollars…

I bet he wears a Kaepernek Tshirt under his uniform!”

    Kobe Faker

  32. Kobe Faker Says:

“Kobe is a big Godwin fan but he need some coaching from the line. His getup speed and quickness is lacking.

Kobe hates Djax but he has superior quick twitch skill set that Godwin doesnt have. Djax quick change of direction/stop and go/separation is elite ….when he chooses to use it”

    Kobe Faker

  33. Only1Buc Says:

    Yo Kobe….. stfu

  34. Pickgrin Says:

Forgot to add 7 TDs to Godwin’s 2018 stats.

  35. Fire Light Says:

MeJax sucks at being a buc. Fire him

  36. Fire Light Says:

Joe.. about time to run Kobe Faker

  37. DaPostman Says:

MeSean attracts so much attention that he averages a whopping 3.8 catches per game and 4.8 TD’s a season. Idiot Buc Fans can not figure out that MeSean has only played a full 16 game schedule twice in 11 NFL years. MeSean is like going to the store and buying the National brand and you can get the store brand for the same price and it’s just as good. MeSean has been marketed to the lemmings.

  38. Buccfan37 Says:

Enjoy Kobe Faker, but DJax needs to go.

  39. StoutGospel Says:

    @DeweySelmon….

The brightest of the bunch, here. Nice job Dewey!

    Nailed it.

    Moving on!

  40. SenileSenior Says:

Mike Evans strikes me as a straight up sort of a guy. Maybe, he is one of those people who find it easier to look pass what other people find annoying in somebody’s behavior. He might not see Jackson as a disruptive guy in the locker room.

    Stay tuned.
    ___________
    Go Bucs!!!

  41. BucFan3 Says:

Pshhh he’s just saying the right things. D-Jax is under contract. How’s Mike supposed to say, I want rid of that cancerous teammate. This is a far stretch, Joe.
