Panthers stud DT Kawann Short talks about a Buccaneer

It’s rare for a defensive tackle to earn a Pro Bowl berth, then not be selected for the game for a couple of years and return to the high honor at 29 years old.

Panthers DT Kawann Short fits that description. He’s in the game this year as a first alternate substituting for Aaron Donald.

Short helped end Gerald McCoy’s six-year Pro Bowl streak. He recorded three sacks this season, half McCoy’s total, but he doubled McCoy’s tackles for loss (12 to 6) and had significantly more tackles overall. Both played in 14 games. Coaches, players and fans voted in Short while McCoy, 30, was not on the alternate list.

Joe talked to Short for the for the first time this week. Nice guy.

And Joe just about begged Short in advance for honest, on-the-record, unfiltered answers on a variety of players. Short laughed and said he couldn’t do that, but Short was willing to talk about facing Ali Marpet.

Probably because he only had good things to say about the Bucs’ best guard.

“Helluva player, somebody I always gotta, you know, take a deep breath knowing that he’s going to go 100 percent,” Short said of Marpet. “Just one of those type of games knowing I’m going into it what’s coming, knowing what I need to do and I can’t be tired and take a play off against a cat like that. I take my hat off to him and I respect what he do.”

Nice compliment there for the Bucs’ best offensive lineman. Now if Jason Licht and Bruce Arians can put an average guard opposite Marpet, and Ryan Jensen can have a bounce back year (the other top free agent center last year, Mike Pouncey, had a monster year with the Chargers), then the Bucs should be in excellent shape along their offensive line.

Alot of players will be magically improving under this staff. Goff was labeled a bust under Jeff Fisher. McVay suddenly has him in the big one. I can see ronald jones and many others enjoying plenty of success soon. Or they wont be here.

I think Joe is forgetting about LT & RT

Mike Pouncey, who had what, 3 Pro Bowls vs Jensen’s 0 going into this season turns in another Pro Bowl season for the Playoff Chargers while Jensen tries his best to lead the Bucs in flags while earning 5 million more this year? Someone tell me again why Jason Licht is still the GM of an NFL team.

Is it the losing record that’s so appealing to the Glazers?

pro-bowl is a glorified popularity contest!!!! Panthers DT Kawann Short has easily out played gmc for the last 3 to 4 years!!!!!! Just does not have the name recognition, nor is the media wh@#$ that gmc is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 season will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Joe in Michigan Says:

Ryan Jensen: 5 holding penalties, Mike Pouncey: 4 holding penalties
Ryan Jensen: 2 false starts, Mike Pouncey: 3 false starts
Ryan Jensen: 4 unnecessary roughness penalties, Mike Pouncey: 0

At least a few of the unnecessary roughness penalties were from Ryan Jensen sticking up for his teammates, which I’m okay with.

it’s the losing record that’s not appealing to the top FA’s

Jason got one draft pick in 5 drafts and zero free agent linemen. Way to overpay for our center.
Strong work in keeping him Glazers.

  8. Iron Wombat Says:

Did mike pouncey have to cover for the worst RG in the league? Or with his head coach going full retard and rotating his RGs? Probably not.

  9. teacherman777 Says:

Licht tried to FORCE Benenoch into the starting lineup because he was “his” pick.

We had 3, yes THREE 2nd round picks and we didnt use 1, not ONE on a guard

    WTF?????
