  1. AlteredEgo Says:

    Which Tuesday?

  2. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

What?! So it has been decided already?

  3. 813bucboi Says:

    nawl joe…it’ll be Kris Richard!!!!!

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#ADIOSDIRK!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  4. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Dear Lord, I hope you are wrong

  5. Iron Wombat Says:

Probably was decided a month ago. The interviews Licht is doing are part smoke screen part contingency plan. Remember Parcells left them at the alter… twice.

  6. thunderchunkyPA Says:

I’ll take it. Either he or Kris RIchard.

  7. tnew Says:

I kind of think Joe is correct. The question I have is what will he be able to do at the coordinator position. I want a guy that could step in 2-3 years down the road and take over from Arians.

  8. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

I won’t be mad at all if it’s Arians. Arians is one of the few that I WOULD get excited for!

  9. Maddognavy Says:

Dont they still have interviews scheduled? Seems like they met the Rooney rule as quickly as possible and moved on? I guess the coach from the Cowboys is out, they werent going to interview him until after the game this weekend. Is this a joke?

  10. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Yeah

I hope you’re wrong too Joe

  11. Rob in Land O Lakes Says:

At least it’s not Brian Kelly or Mike McCarthy.

  12. Richard Dickson Says:

In place for the Senior Bowl and combine prep, good deal.

  13. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Calm down guys. We won’t know if it’s a bad hire until after a season or two, no matter the name.

  14. D-Rome Says:

Dear Lord, I hope you are wrong

Agreed! The Bucs need to hire someone they believe will be here for the long term. We all know Bruce Arians will not be a long term solution.

  15. Bobby M. Says:

Good move….get the coach asap and start building a staff. My guess is either Jim Harbaugh or Arians. The whole trade for John H. was unrealistic, the guy could be playing for another 4 weeks, would costs too much and his staff would be leftovers. The goal is to evaluate Winston as well as scout a replacement for him….That’s a QB guru which leaves Jim or Bruce.

  16. DooshLaRue Says:

    Rob

I hear ya man. I hope those two are out of the mix.

  17. miken Says:

@rob land o lakes… i agree with you but neither one of those guys would take the job

  18. Troy Says:

How is that due diligence? Seriously??? This freakin team needs to stop the nonsense. Well, the mess and the consequences of Jason Licht continues.

  19. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Arians is not long term

    so I hope you’re wrong

  20. JimmyJack Says:

I hate to break the hearts of those who want Richards but if they are definitely making the announcement Tuesday then it won’t be Richards.

Maybe I’m wrong but no team would annoucer their new HC is somebody that’s potentially in the middle of a playoff run.

Come on Joe spill the beans.

  21. mikadeemas Says:

Hey maybe if it’s Harbaugh, he’ll bring in Kap. HA! GO BUCS!!

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Assuming this ‘good authority’ is accurate, which I have my doubts, it would mean they have already made a decision or hope to talk to the person they intend to hire by Monday.

Eric Bieniemy is a good candidate. Vic Fangio too.

But, let’s not forget, Jim Harbaugh had his final season game on this past Tuesday.

If forced to choose between Bruce Arians or Kris Richard…well, I guess Bruce is the choice, even if he’ll be gone in a few years. To me, both would be a waste of time to be honest.

And also let’s not forget…Mike McCarthy has not really talked to anyone yet. Not so far as the public knows. He is supposed to interview on Thursday next week.

  23. 813bucboi Says:

why suggest that richard is out?….lol…he has an interview set up with us after the weekend…..as in sunday monday or tuesday…..BA doesnt even have an interview scheduled….lol…

i have a good feeling Kris Richard will be named our HC!!!!

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#ADIOSDIRK!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  24. T REX Says:

A 67 year old retiree with health problems. This is the Glazer thing to do.

We needed a search firm(joke) for this?

    LOL.

    It’s a Bucs life.

  25. Mikiebucsfan76 Says:

I can live with Arians. I think he is what the Bucs need at this time. As I have mention on this site at least 6 times, if its Arians, he will bring in 2 top coordinators in which 1 will take over as HC in 2 or the most 3 years when Arians retire for good. maybe to the Bucs front office. Who knows, maybe the K Richard interview may be about the DC/assistant HC and he may be the one to take over after a year or 2 of tutoring under Arians then become HC when Arians retire

  26. JimmyJack Says:

Bonzai….you’re scared about the health concerns or age of Bruce? Can’t think of any other negatives.

  27. Buc believer Says:

Yay so let’s hire a guy with a bad ticker that has already retired and wife doesn’t want him coaching!! Look out ladies and gentlemen Bill Parcels has returned!! Dammit the Glazers are going to get the guy that could drop dead at any moment if it kills them!

  28. AlteredEgo Says:

It will be like one of those weddings without a Honeymoon…..if ya know what I mean Vern…

  29. ChipBuc Says:

Anybody that thinks Arians is a bad hire. Who do you think would be better? Arians can bring in a great coaching staff which i think is half the battle. Not to mention 2 times coach of the year isn’t to shabby either. Plus Arians has a great track record in developing QBs, Manning, Luck, Roethlisberger, to name a few. Better still Arians loves Winston, has known him since Winston was 9 years old. I’m sure the only negative is Arians health. But from what I’ve heard Arias has a clean bill of health. If hired Arians will be the best coach we’ve had since Gruden , so bring him on.

  30. JimmyJack Says:

Nah if Richards is the guy there’s no way they will say the announcement is no later then Tuesday.

Like I said, maybe I’m wrong but when has a coordinator ever been named a HC in the middle of a playoff run?

  31. Lord Cornelius Says:

    Well hot damn.

Joe – It seems head coaching interviews not all announced/public when they occur? Is this all mostly going down in the dark?

It’s a little disappointing they’d say this before other interviews have taken place (i.e. Richards). Or it may mean they’re not even going to conduct any more interviews.

Arians is likely the guy then. He has a history with Licht. Solid HC resume on both sides of the ball. Walrus look like Andy Reid.

  32. OneBucPerson Says:

Man, I hate that they’re rushing it. I mean BA is a great coach and all but the guy is turning 67 this year and has health issues, I hope it works out for us.

  33. Howard Cosell Says:

Glazers: Worst franchise owners in the history of professional football

  34. 813bucboi Says:

    jimmy

joe said the glazers “plan” to name their HC on tuesday….plans always change…..

and after this weekend, dallas may not be in the “middle of a playoff run”….but even if dallas did win, it wont stop them from hiring kris if they feel he’s the best name for the job…..

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#ADIOSDIRK!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  35. VFL98 Says:

    SPLASH!!! Well Joe thinks so.

  36. JimmyJack Says:

Rushing it? Remember we need a HC and also a entire coaching staff. The longer they sit and wait the more assistant coaches will be off the table with new jobs.

How many teams are looking for a new staff? Much better to have the first crack at assistanats then getting leftovers cause you waited so long to name your new HC.

  37. D-Rome Says:

ChipBuc, it’s not that Arians is a “bad” hire because he’s a bad coach. It’s just that in 2 to 3 years there will be another coaching search. Whether by firing or retirement, it’s still a continuation of a coaching carousel.

Do you believe Arians will be coaching in his 70’s? I don’t. This team needs someone younger.

  38. JimmyJack Says:

813 understood. Just don’t think this would be their plan for a ayoff coordinator.

But heck maybe it’s normal to announce that a guy working on a playoff team is your HC.

  39. VFL98 Says:

IF it is Arians then we have probably 3 years then were doing this again. I pray it’s not him..Anyone think Arian can take this team to the superbowl in 3 years? If you do then please let me know what your smoking.

  40. Brad Says:

Dabo!!!! Why wait til Tuesday unless you’re waiting to get turned down at the alter.

  41. JimmyJack Says:

If its Arians I say we can be a WildCard team next year. That’s how good he is!!

    GOO BUCS!!!!!

  42. Issaic haggins Says:

One buc , I don’t think they are rushing it I think this has been done for well over a month , minus the details !!!

  43. Dewey Selmon Says:

    Brian Kelly. lol hope not!

  44. Pistol Pete Says:

I watched the Season with the Cardinals on amazon a while back.
Came away really, really liking Arians.
He did an masterful job in Indianapolis with Pagano out. Dude gets it, and he is a polar opposite of how I viewed Koetter after seeing him on Hard Knox.
Arians takes no BS from anyone.
If him, I am not unhappy…has plenty of credibility and should have his pick of great coaches to staff us up (not best friends like Smitty). Coached Todd Bowles in college….
I can totally live with this for 2 years.
    Pistol

  45. 813bucboi Says:

    jimmy

its not that hard….kris interviews on monday….then is hired….then its announced on tuesday….

    here’s some info:

If an assistant coach’s team loses in the Wild Card round, the candidate can interview with any team that goes through the proper channels to secure an interview. However, if the assistant coach’s team wins, teams need approval for an interview, which has to take place before the divisional round.

Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph had to wait until their teams were knocked out of the Wild Card round before they could interview. As soon as their seasons were over, there were reports that Austin had interviews lined up with the Rams and Chargers, while Joseph had one set with the Broncos.

On the other hand, Seattle defensive coordinator Kris Richard needed the OK from the Seahawks to interview with the Bills after his team beat the Lions. Richard met with the Bills one day later, on Sunday night.

bucs have already requested an interview before the playoffs have taken place and kris has already received the OK….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#ADIOSDIRK!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  46. Darin Says:

Its not a done deal its Arians guys. More than likely its him or Harbaugh tho if its been decided. And he doesnt have to have interviewed in tampa and it have been reported to get an offer. A former NFL head coaches resume is on film. And a conference call will suffice.

  47. Frank Pillow Says:

Hey Joes, any digging around the recent La Canfora reference to Kirby Smart- I can’t believe he pulled his name out of a hat-

  48. JimmyJack Says:

813…….I would just like a answer to the question if other coordinators have been named HCs before while they were in the middle of a playoff run.

If this has happened before then, yes, Richards could be the guy…….If it hasn’t happened before then that means Richards is out.

  49. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Arians would be another HORRIBLE mistake!!!! His health?….think he can handle 90/90 weather for 4 months of the year? His longevity? Two years maybe. His “burning desire”?? …uhhh, nope. Arians as HC is doomed to failure.

  50. 813bucboi Says:

our season is over and they’ve already complied with the rooney rule…..if BA was the guy, he wouldve been named our HC wednesday…..

our HC is still coaching and preparing for the playoffs….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#ADIOSDIRK!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  51. Knoxville Bucs Fan Says:

Guess we all have to wait until he gets out of the hospital?

  52. Aceofaerospace Says:

I would guess if the source is accurate then a coach has been decided on and the contract and terms are being negotiated and signed before any announcement to alleviate being left at the altar yet again. That scenario to me rules out John Harbaugh. Face it, we have no say anyway, so we might as well go all in when it’s announced anyway whoever it is. That’s what fans have to do.

  53. Bucsfanman Says:

D-Rome- Rest assured though, that if Arians is the hire, he’s not bringing with him second-rate coordinators. He will bring quality people.
It’s not a long-term solution (IF), but whoever succeeds him will be a quality coach.

  54. JimmyJack Says:

Joe tell the Commish to set up an “Announcement Party”. I need a good excuse to get wasted at Noon on a Tuesday.

  55. JabooBuc Says:

If it’s BA along with Todd Bowls then I am good to go with this move. Due to BA’s age, this would set up for a nice transition to Bowls down the road assuming BA has success building this team up.

I think Bowls is a good coach that was caught up with a team with little talent and in desperate need of a QB. I think the Jets finally have a QB in Darnald but NYJ fans couldn’t hang on to see this through.

  56. westernbuc Says:

I love Bruce Arians assuming he doesn’t keel over

  57. Troy Says:

    Let me guess….It’s Jim Harbaugh.

  58. JGhoti86 Says:

    1st: EEEEEE!

2nd: Does that mean it won’t be Richard since they haven’t interviewed him yet, yet we already know by when they will announce the hiring. Or does the Richard interview not matter at all…

  59. Issaic haggins Says:

Kirby Smart does more hands on coaching in one game than Smith and Koetter in a week of practices .

If you couldn’t see how inept Smith was as a teacher during hard knocks you would be inept. It was as clear as the skyway bridge being over water !!!

Licht ignored this and that’s my fear with Arians but clearly in other areas !!! Can Licht be an effective GM ??? Bruce Allen couldn’t under Gruden , Just the Facts !!!

  60. Wausa Says:

I really like the Arians hire; if it is him.

The guy is a winner and will not put up with the poor discipline the Bucs had under the previous coach.

  61. JimmyJack Says:

Romero Carnell makes his return in Tampa Bay?

  62. Todd Says:

    It’s fake left,go right.

They’ve decided on promoting the offensive line coach to head coach.

It’s a BIG SPLASH (of a turd in a bowl).

  63. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Lets just pull a Raider and sign Tony Romo as HC and Mel Kiper Jr as GM

  64. Zwak Says:

@813bucboi I get the interview is Monday but both sides have to agree he may say he’s not interested? I hope Richard is the new coach this just seems very strange..

  65. VoiceofReason Says:

If the President of the United States can function at age 72, then a person can be a head football coach at 66. Arians knows if he can handle the job or not. We don’t need to worry about it. He would be an awesome choice, if we can land him.

  66. SCBucsFan Says:

Grimes becomes a player coach as he’s the smartest person in football

  67. Lamarcus Says:

I think it’s McCarthy or Arians. In that order

  68. 813bucboi Says:

    jimmy

well to answer your question YES….

but to clarify, teams cant “announce” that hire if their team is still on a playoff run but can make an agreement…..

perfect example is dan quinn….he interviewed for the falcons job during the playoff run and the seahawk made it all the way to the SB…..an agreement was made that he would become their HC…..they lost to the PATS on 02/01/15 and his hiring was officially announced on 02/02/15…the very next day….

glazers “plan” to announce but plans often change….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#ADIOSDIRK!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  69. passthebuc Says:

Just posted, the grading of the 2018 Draft class.

    DDDDDDDDDDDD

Why is the GM still here??????????

  70. Dapostman Says:

    I’m still holding out for…………..wait for it……………….

    Jim Harbaugh

    I guess we’ll know Tuesday.

  71. University of Seffner Says:

Bruce Arians would be a good fit, his age however is a legit concern. I’d rather take Kris Richard.

  72. T REX Says:

In the 2016 season, Arians led the Cardinals to a record of 7-8-1.

After the 2017 season, where he led the Cardinals to an 8-8 record, Arians announced his retirement from coaching after five seasons with the Cardinals.

Yikes. This is a good hire? Wow. Tampa fans have gone full returd.

  73. Todd Says:

Jennie laine says no timetable on hire

  74. JimmyJack Says:

Thanks 813……That means I have to break your heart.

    Kris Richards out.

    John Harbaugh out.

    Bennienemy out.

    Fangio out.

The announcement planned for Tuesday which means the Bucs do not plan on hiring somebody from any of the playoff teams.

I am trying to read between the lines of. I want to be like Joe.

  75. Bird Says:

If it’s arians then that move was made for Jameis.

He would be best option for Jameis. Someone he knows and trusts Someone Licht knows and trust.
Not saying it’s good or bad yet but safe.
He was one of my top choices.

    Wanted John Harbaugh but whatever

  76. 813bucboi Says:

    zwak

well, to be honest, the only thing thats strange is folks thinking our next HC will be someone that doesnt have a scheduled interview with anyone let alone the bucs….lol….

bucs have already interviewed bieniemy and edwards with richard coming up…..seems to me like its 1 of the 3….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#ADIOSDIRK!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  77. Kobe Faker Says:

“LOL! Bruce Arians? What was the compensation to the Cardinals for talking to BA?

Arizona dont know neither because the Bucs never asked

Team Glazers pick and the new Head Coach is …

    Eric “sleeping with the” Bieniemy

    Team Glazer playing the odds

    Doug Pederson
    Matt Nagy
    Bieniemy ?

*Only problem Kobe has is Bieniemy is a former runningback and not a QB like the 2 former OCs of Andy Reid. Eric has alot less experience and understanding of the passing game since he was not a QB all his life”

    Kobe Faker

  78. GreG Says:

Arians would probably bring Bowles in as the DC

  79. cw_buc_crazy Says:

Bruce Arians , why???!!! He did quit his job, what make him trustful this time??? No fired coaches, no quitters. I hope they go with fresh HC.

  80. BUC IT Says:

Bruce Arians is TOO OLD! Annoying. Get a young guy.

  81. Rojas Says:

Isn’t Ariana’s still under contract with Arizona ? Until 2019. I thought we had to talk to the cardinals to speak to him.

  82. Mike10 Says:

So I guess it’s not Saban or Dabo.

  83. Rojas Says:

    Arians*

  84. JimmyJack Says:

I want Bruce so bad…..I will do anything to get him here. And I mean anything.

I wanted to recruit Kobe to aid me but he is not a Bruce fan.

  85. Dewey Selmon Says:

We could be Arizona east this time next week. BA, Bowles, Buckner, Licht.

  86. scbucsfan Says:

Since he’s smarter then coaches hire Grimes, he will be unemployed soon

  87. Iron Wombat Says:

The Tuesday time frame is kinda weird unless the NFL has an edict about making news during the playoff weekend (i know they do that for Superbowl week). Or their new coach has a game on Monday and I don’t see them getting Dabo or Saban. Licht probably has a handshake agreement with Arians, his job will be to fix Jameis, if he’s planning on being a short timer there should be some sort of succession plan in place. One would hope anyway.

  88. Rojas Says:

Can’t wait for Djack and Grimes to be off this team. Even though grimes is basically gone he’s a free agent.

  89. 813bucboi Says:

    jimmy

lol….your doing a lousy job trying to read between the lines…..

a bigger indicator of BA being the man is if joe wouldve wrote” bucs will announce on tuesday”…..

and what happened to- If this has happened before then, yes, Richards could be the guy….i just gave you an example of this happening before….lol….

why strive to be like joe?…lol…he’s been wrong multiple times before in the past and present and will be wrong again in the future….

its simple….glazers “want/plan” to announce but plans change…..

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#ADIOSDIRK!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  90. THETRUTH Says:

    People people people

Bruce is the best coach out there , he says he has been healthy for almost 2years

Truth – rather have coach (PROVEN WINNER)of for 3 years has us on the upswing and grooming a coach , than a new coach who fans are asking for his head and fired after 2-3 years. , (unproven coach )

Bruce al the way and Todd B as DC

  91. Rojas Says:

Didn’t Bruce already say if he gets the HC gig in Cleveland “. Chuck Pagano would be his DC

  92. Eric Says:

I hope you are right Joe.

    Perfect fit.

He has the gravitas to command the locker room and loves jameis. And can put together one hell of a staff.

    Please let it be so.

  93. Kobe Faker Says:

“JJ, BA will lose 3 years from his lifespan being head coach of this sorry franchise

You ever read the bottom of a buccaneers ticket seat?

WARNING: THE SURGEON GENERAL HAS DETERMINED THAT BEING A BUCSFAN IS DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH.”

    Kobe Faker

  94. JIMMY T Says:

    Buccaneer Bonzai
R u NUTS?? U should want Bruce Arians! He will bring in a top flight coaching staff & u will see this team IMMEDIATELY!!!

  95. Eric Says:

can’t be the cowboys coach he is still in playoffs. Or the CHiefs coach for same reason.

What happened to the dc guy from the vikings?

  96. JIMMY T Says:

I’m convinced that most of u would rather the BUCS lose without Jameis than WIN WITH HIM! That is pathetic!

  97. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

    Yes!!!!

  98. SOEbuc Says:

God no to EXTREMELY overrated Jim Harbaugh or International Conference Brian Kelly. Ariens may be short term but it’s a fact that a lot of his coaches have gone to bigger and better positions. Can likely get any coaches he wants .BUCK was with him for the entire time he was in Arizona. McCarthy is a vet HC with tons of playoff experience. Has been out since mid season so they have had more time to talk to him.

I smell Ariens or McCarthy. See whatcha got Jameis.

  99. JimmyJack Says:

813 your way of thinking is wrong.

Of course plans can change. This is exactly why Joe didn’t say definitely. In fact nobody can say defientaly. Not even Our Glazers themselves.

It’s highly doubtful that this news would be coming out if the plan was to hire somebody that is not avialable.

It just doesn’t add up bro. I want to be like Joe so I gotta think like Joe. And I betcha he would get his ticket running if something didn’t add up……..Just face it man the pieces don’t fit.

Richards, Bienemy, John Harbaugh, Vic Fangio all out.

  100. TampaJim Says:

Lots of signs pointing to George Edwards.

I wouldn’t be mad about a George Edwards hire with Todd Moniken retained as OC.

Get them kinda cheap. Then they basically have a 1 year deal with our GM and QB.

If they stink up the joint…full house cleaning next year!

  101. Anonymous Says:

Why everyone put a cap on Bruce.. y’all don’t know his health

  102. gotbbucs Says:

    Is the source Miko Grimes?

  103. NPRSageBoy Says:

This has debacle written all over it. Just like last time with Koetter.

  104. JimmyJack Says:

Jim Schwartz out…..He was my dark horse canidate. Though sometimes it feels like the Glazers deal primarily in dark horse canidates.

  105. SOEbuc Says:

Now that I think about it, have they completed the Rooney Rule with anyone? They were suppose to interview Richard after tomorrow night and they haven’t talked to Eric Bhinemy, right? Guess they got someone locked up but just gotta wait for the rule to pass.

  106. BucEmUp Says:

I dont understand why everyone is so against Arains because of his age? So what if he only coaches for 3 seasons…or even just 2 seasons? I WOULD BET THEM TO BE 2-3 GOOD SEASONS!!!

Holy hell the last decade has been nothing but losing and I would feel better about Arians leaving behind a coordinator of his or an assisitant when he steps.down over thw glaziere picking someone. We dont even know if Monken is leaving. Arians may retain Monken and promote Buckner to DC and switch over.to a 3-4. How in the hell would that not get you jacked up?

I.hope its Arians or Vic Fangio. No mccarthy, no richard, giant hell no on caldwell, no chiefs oc. Brian Kelly I cant say yes or no on him

  107. SOEbuc Says:

    gotbbucs

    “Is the source Miko Grimes?”

It is Miko Grimes. She’s the next HC and couldn’t keep her gigantic yapper closed.

  108. JimmyJack Says:

My goal is to be the first member of the Bruce Fan Club if he gets hired. If their is no Fan Club I will form my own.

Bruce will do for Our Bucs what Maddon did for Our Rays!!!!!

    GOO BUCS!!!!

  109. BucEmUp Says:

And to all.of the butt plugs saying arians is too old, hes still.younger than bellicheat and pete caroll. And his ticker is fine, he beat cancer not heart failure. Honestly who doesnt have heart problems these days? It pretty much defines america.

  110. Eric Says:

of course they could have interviewed someone we know nothing about….

  111. SOEbuc Says:

    BucEmUp

Amen. Fans haven’t had a winning coach or season in so long they’ve forgotten what it means. Arians, the QB whisperer, is the top dawg on this years coaching list and can put together a hell of a coaching staff coming out of retirement.

  112. catcard202 Says:

If BA is the guy & he brings Pagano on as DC…The Bucs will win 10 in 2019 & make a SB run in 2020.

  113. SOEbuc Says:

BUC-O-BRUCE ARIENS! Gotta bring back some badass creamsicle uniforms with the original white helmets for that.

  114. MTM Says:

Nick Saban returns to the NFL. After he wins his 15th NC he’ll want to prove he can win at the NFL level.

  115. JimmyJack Says:

No matter who we hire people will be complaining.

That’s part of what it means when people say the infamous words “It’s a Bucs life”

Losing and complaint are the two essential ingredients that form a Bucs life.

  116. A Bucs Fan Says:

Why is Licht still there? If he brings Arians we get more of the same. Six offseasons and no playoffs yet you still trust him to make a coaching decision for second time. Arians is 66 too old. Im tired of the buddy system. Wont matter anyway unless Licht hits on these second round picks!!

  117. Sumo Says:

66 is not that old. He’s got another 20 years to go. Arians is a great coach. Bring it on please.

  118. Cs2 Says:

Multiple RELIABLE Bucs sources called you out.

  119. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Bonzai being against Arians is the best possible endorsement that he’ll be the guy to return this team to greatness.

  120. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

Start to prepare yourselves for the “last second–left at the altar” the Glazers always seem to pull off.

  121. Knack2Babbyyyy Says:

We haven’t heard anything about the Bucs requesting permission with the Cardinals, to speak with Bruce Arians. However, it just may not have been leaked. I think the top candidate at this moment is Eric Bieniemy. Jason Licht flew to Kansas City on Wednesday to interview him.

  122. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

If they were sniffing around Jim Harbaugh this time last year as some high profile pundits have said, odds are VERY good it is him. I would be SHOCKED as someone was able to keep this a secret.

  123. Rojas Says:

Starting to agree with you knack I think it’s EB. But a lot of sources are saying the Bucs don’t have a time table and never did. An haven’t heard anything about a coach announcement on Tuesday.. like Jenna and Rick Stroud.

  124. BucMoney Says:

I think if it is Arians as HC then as far as a leader Licht landed someone who will command respect because he is a proven leader with a very good track record. Very good hire if it is Arians he has the deep pool for a coaching staff. Look forward to the announcement! Go Bucs

  125. Eric Says:

Tuesday is the day after the college championship game…….Sweeny or Saban?

  126. TexBuc Says:

I vote for BA with an heir apparent on the staff

  127. Knack2Babbyyyy Says:

    @Rojas

Yeah, I saw those reports too. I still think that the Bucs will hire their next HC sometime next week.

  128. FortMyersDave Says:

Arians? Ok I can live with that. Arizona East beats Cleveland/Detroit South…. When your team is rock bottom the only way is up! If Arians is the choice I am hoping that his staff will have not one but TWO coordinators that could take the throne when he hangs it up in 2021…

  129. catcard202 Says:

VFL98 … Ponder this, BA (as an OC) won 2 SB’s in PIT (beating SEA & ARI) w/ a great passing attack & Willie Parker has a #1RB.

Give BA a couple upgrades on the OL & a healthy Bucs D…STFB!!! TB will flip the script in a hurry!

  130. Buccfan37 Says:

The life age expectancy is declining in America.

  131. Zwak Says:

Arians is short term with bad health and add the Florida heat! I don’t see this going well, just my view if they go with him. Guess will see I’m hoping its Richard.

  132. Defense Rules Says:

@Wausa … “I really like the Arians hire; if it is him. The guy is a winner and will not put up with the poor discipline the Bucs had under the previous coach.”

    Bruce Arians (66) 49 wins … 30 losses, 1 tie … .619 winning percentage
    Mike Smith (59) 66 wins … 46 losses … .589 winning percentage

They were BOTH winners Wausa … until they weren’t.

Mike Smith’s last 2 years in Atlanta: 4-12 and 6-10.
Bruce Arian’s last 2 years in Arizona: 7-8-1 and 8-8.

    Just sayin

  133. Brandon Says:

I think if it’s Ariians, it’s because they believe they can win now, without a complete rebuild. I also think this has been the plan the whole time. Why else would they state that Winston is their quarterback right after the season ended, unless they had someone in place already that was willing to work with Winston. We know Arians and Winston have mutual respect for eachother.

  134. SchwiftyBuc Says:

It honestly makes me laugh we people come on here and blather about Arians not being able to handle the Florida Heat. You bumpkins seem to forget that Arizona is literally the Desert. And it gets RIDICULOUSLY hot there. In the summer it hovers around 100-105 degrees. Just this year they hit a high of 116.

  135. Old School Athlete Says:

Pete Carroll is 67. Still a very effective coach.

  136. catcard202 Says:

Def Rules… Keep in mind that BA’s 2017 (7-8-1) Cardinals had Carson Palmer go down in wk 7…& finished the season w/ Blaine Gabbert/Drew Stanton playing QB….ARI lost 5 games by a TD or < in 2017…Meaning his LOSING REC in 2017 doesn't look so damning, under those circumstances…Especially considering ARI regressed to 3-13 in 2018 (& fired their 1st yr HC replacement for BA).

  137. Buccaneerscotty Says:

    I’ll take BA

  138. Kord Says:

Why people sleeping on Edwards or Bieniemy? Gonna be one of these two, maybe Richard. Who cares if R or B make a deep playoff run, they want a HC job they can take it

  139. Zdm6583 Says:

Hey Joe- Jenna Laine said that her source has told her there is no timetable for a hire so I guess yours is wrong

  140. Kord Says:

Why are people sleeping on Edwards or Bieniemy? Gonna be one of those guys, maybe Richard

  141. old fart buc fan Says:

    Tony Dungy..?

  142. Kord Says:

    Edwards Bieniemy or Richard

  143. SOEbuc Says:

Been saying my thoughts, but Joe now this really doesn’t sound like a “good authority” source of knowing anything unless it’s Joel or Jason. They’ve only interviewed Bieniemy wednesday, Edwards today, and Richard on Sunday. Did you get the info from a real estate agent that sold Ariens a new crib in Tampa today? That’s the only way I’m assuming this is could be true.

  144. Defense Rules Says:

@catcard202 … “Keep in mind that BA’s 2017 (7-8-1) Cardinals had Carson Palmer go down in wk 7…& finished the season w/ Blaine Gabbert/Drew Stanton playing QB….ARI lost 5 games by a TD or < in 2017…Meaning his LOSING REC in 2017 doesn't look so damning, under those circumstances."

Oh I agree. And Dirk Koetter lost SIX games this year by 1 TD or less. Just think, we could've been 11-5 instead of 5-11 IF we'd scored more OR given up less.

I'd mention that we lost SEVEN games in 2017 by 1 TD of less, and could've gone 12-4 IF we'd … yada, yada … BUT that's probably unnecessary so I won't mention it.

As a teacher I once had said: "Math is fun and numbers are our friends."

  145. Loyaltotheend Says:

    Jenna Laine says different…

    Only time will tell

  146. Curse of Gruden Says:

    Bringing back Schiano!

  147. stpetebucsfan Says:

    MikieBucsfan

Agree with your take. If this report is true it’s probably Arians…he’s the only guy with enough familiarity with Licht and management to be far enough along in negotiations, expectations etc.

Perhaps the Bucs shock us and they hire one of the two Harbaughs. Both great coaches but I do not want to give up draft picks for a coach ever again so that cools me towards John.

We need to win THIS YEAR. I get planning for the future but if Arians can last 2019 I’m OK. He has a lot to offer…most folks look at #3 and Arians is great with QB’s but he is also very well respected around the NFL and is very well connected. People are already speculating he’ll bring Todd Bowles in as his DC.

Arians will be a strong attraction for any assistants precisely because of his age and the realization there’s probably room to move up in 2-3 years.

  148. Buc407 Says:

Arians will build an aggressive defense and physical team 2 time coach of the year Hope he’s healthy enough for at least 3 or 4 years

  149. JimmyJack Says:

Joe I got my binoculars polished. Would you like me to slide into the bushes across from One Buc & report any Bruce sitings?

  150. Zwak Says:

@SchwiftyBuc the desert in AZ is a dry heat, humidity is a b!tch if you’re not used to it.

  151. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

But, But, But, it is a DRY heat in Arizona.

  152. Cobraboy Says:

I would be totally shocked if the new guy is some rookie HC. Shocked. The Glazers have been through that too many times already with Rah, Schiano & Koetter.

It is possible Arians used his medical condition as an exaggerated excuse for a smooth exit from AZ.

Is there an official list of interviewees? Or was this decision made weeks ago and we’re just seeing the window dressing?

  153. Etzel Says:

People bashing Arians thought Dirk Koetter was a good hire……

  154. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

Joe put his reputation on the line with this “coach will be picked by tuesday” post

Whoever the new coach will be, we can assume Joe approves

If he didn’t, well… we’d see more “Desean Jackson” like articles

  155. SB Says:

    John Harbaugh!

  156. Noel Says:

It’s Harbaugh, that’s why Joe said it is Arians. Joe knows!

  157. SchwiftyBuc Says:

You’re telling me that you could comfortable stand around in 105 degree heat just because it’s dry. Not to mention, it’s 2019, Air conditioning has been around for quite a while.

And @ Defense Rules Get your facts straight brother. Arains is not 49-30-1 like you said. He also went 9-3 with the Colts filling in for Chuck Pagano. Making his record 58-33-1 making his win percentage (.630).

And not to mention, in 2014, BA led the Cards to a 9-1 start, the best in the league that season at that point, but both Carson Palmer (6-0 that season) and Drew Stanton (5-3 that season) were rendered unable to play. Which effectively killed the season.

And we haven’t even mentioned the fact that Bruce Arians was Peyton Mannings first QB coach, is a SuperBowl champion Offensive Coordinator for the Steelers in 2008, and was also their OC when the Steelers lost a close game in one of the best Superbowls in NFL History against the Packers in 2010.

The Steelers have not been back to the SB since Arians left. Bruce Arians has a loaded resume and is a tremendously gifted coach. Simply put, he is phenomenal at what he does. You better hope we sign Bruce Arians.

  158. Nybucsfan Says:

    Top pick hands down.

  159. StoutGospel Says:

In all objectivity…@Joe has been right and wrong before, on small and large things predicted here.

To some of those theorizing above, the Tuesday classification in and of itself is quite odd, as Bruce Arians could easily be announced today, or Monday if not to interfere with the weekend’s playoff games. The Tuesday announcement, as some have said, does bring into play….

    Dabo Sweeney….

And Nick Saban (who incidentally recruited Jameis heavily to Bama out of Bessemer a couple times). FSU let him play baseball and football on full ride, Nick would not have allowed that distraction. The Glazers could have easily have back-channeled discussions with Jimmy Sexton weeks or months ago (Saban’s agent people).

    Urban Meyer….

    Jim Harbaugh…

In almost all of these situations, Jason Licht would have no bearing on the future framework of whether any of these dudes did or didn’t want Licht to hang out. It’s happened before many times, axed after.

Arians makes a little sense with Licht sticking around, but reflect back on those above. Lastly…..BRUCE ARIANS IS NOT A “SPLASH”. Decent hire, no effing splash.

  160. N. FL buc Says:

They come to fl to retire

  161. Michael Wright Says:

If it is Arians, Like many say here, he’s not long term. Maybe 2 to 3 yrs. But he will bring a good DC with him. That you can count on.

  162. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Michael Wright

Tell that to Pete Carroll (67) Wade Phillips (71) and Dick LeBeau (81)

  163. JimmyJack Says:

Gospel get outta here ya bum.

What are you talking about Arians aren’t a splash? Bruce is probably the biggest spash out there…….You don’t wisper into Payton’s Manning ear and set him up as a HOF and not be considered a splash!!!!! Just thinking about Bruce makes me want to jump into the canal and make my own splash!!!!

Get your collective group of college recruiters outta my face because your opinion sucks.

  164. Troy Says:

Wow Joe! You got some people bent out of shape with this one.

  165. Mikiebucsfan76 Says:

Hell people anyone with a winning record and wasn’t fired from their last job is a splash for this team with the mess that seem to have been going on and the last few coaches that have come through here

  166. oxycondoms Says:

in addition to drinking at the winghouse licht’s other important decision making tactic is giving joe info and making a decision based on the responses on here

  167. BobbyBucs Says:

    Rick Stroud says otherwise

    More Fake News

  168. Dave Pear Says:

Depending on the compensation we would have to give Arizona I agree with Blake. This would be a great hire. No draft picks though, those are too important.
    Cash only (it’s not my money.}

  169. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Jenna Laine ESPN says
“A report is circulating stating that the Bucs could have a new coach in place early next week, but a source just told me that there is “no timetable” for this hire. Keep in mind, the earliest they’d be able to even interview one of their candidates, Kris Richard, is Sunday, due to the wild-card games.”

  170. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Rick Stroud is a bag who isn’t in the loop. You watch. It’s going to be Arians. The reason it will be announced Tuesday is probably because the Bucs have to work things out with the Cardinals in order to hire him.

  171. Wesley Says:

I don’t like it if it’s Arians, heck Cleveland didn’t even want him.

  172. Zwak Says:

The Bucs don’t play or practice in the A/C in 2019..

  173. Cam Says:

A week after the last regular season game is when new HC hires start to happen. They have had many weeks to look into a new HC, it’s not like they didn’t know they were going to need a new one week 17. Y’all would either complain they took too long or didn’t take enough time smh. Can’t really judge the hire until a year or two later, why get yourselves worked up?

  174. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Zwak

Do they not have a brand new indoor practice facility? And maybe hiring Arians will finally motivate the G’s to actually build a canopy over the stadium to keep things cool for the fans, coaches and players.

  175. Elita Vita Says:

If it is Arians, It’s probably due to his relationship with Licht. Age does not have to be a factor I believe Arians is 66 years of age. One of my favorite NFL coaches was Marv Levy who actively coached till age 72. He continued to work with the Bills front office after that as well. Bring him in for 3 years while he prepares his chosen OC or DC to take over. If it’s Arians I’m certainly ok with that.

  176. 1Gr8Buc Says:

Zwak, you are aware we have an indoor practice facility with A/C and the saints and falcons play in an enclosed stadium/dome last time I checked.

  177. Prada..sec147 Says:

Anyone who says Arians is too “Old” gtfo your president is way effin older !!!

  178. Irishbullies Says:

We shall see! More interested in the offensive coordinator than defense. We need to keep this rolling on one side of the ball! But get the staff in early and start sorting out this dumpster fire!

  179. AlteredEgo Says:

It is NOT Arians age…. it’s his health…2 cancers in the past few ya…kidney and prostate….not good combination of health issues which is why he has not been coaching and not a good risk reward for he and the Bucs

  180. Irishbullies Says:

    Go Bucs

  181. Bucs 14 Says:

I vote for Rod Munch as HC and Anthem as OC. Every Sunday they tell us how much they know.

  182. Northend Says:

Ha, someone already changed Arians Wikipedia. Already says he is Bucs head coach.

A succession plan to Bowles,Taylor, etc is probably in the mix as well.

Love the quiet from the team. This is our playoffs. Maybe some new uniforms as well.

This all makes too much sense.

  183. JIMMY T Says:

    TREX
THE 7-8-1 record & 8-8 record was with a third string off the street QB & he still had his team competitive. Funny u left out the overall record and the 13-3 record and the appearance in NFC TITLE GAME. Carson Palmer, who makes Jameis look like Aaron Rogers when it comes to throwing into triple team coverage was his QB and he still won!!! Jameis blows Palmer away, Arians is a STRING believer in RUNNIG THE FREAKJNG FOOTBALL & using PLAY ACTION. Something DIRK forgot was a strength of JAMEIS! In his first year Arians will have this team in the playoffs. The dysfunction of the staff getting walked on by DJAX and GRIMES should tell All That this wasn’t about JAMEIS IT WAS SIMPLY BAD COACHING! PERIOD!!!

  184. Northend Says:

Btw, The Sage is behind this also. He’s a mensch. So Yoda like .Truthful and wise.

  185. JJV Says:

Jenna Laine had a source (aka One Buc janitor) tell her that there is no time-table. Meanwhile, she made other plans and will miss the press conference that will take place on Tuesday. Good job Jenna.

  186. Elita Vita Says:

    @Northend

Ha ha….just saw Wikipedia saying this as well. Not sure if someone is jumping the gun here or it’s real though.

  187. Buc4evr Says:

@tampajim. Agree, George Edwards would be ideal especially if they keep Monchen as OC. He would whip this pathetic defense into shape.

Arians is just not going to fit based on age and very serious health issues. This inept bumbling team will kill him in one season or at the very least put him on long term disability.

  188. Northend Says:

    @ Elita
I’m ok with wishful thinking. The more the merrier. We can use some good vibes.

  189. bucsince79 aka Bumaneer Says:

Excellent hire, if true!! Quit player hating…

  190. Defense Rules Says:

@SwiftyBuc .. “He (Arians) also went 9-3 with the Colts filling in for Chuck Pagano.” And if you noticed, the NFL credited those 9 wins & 3 losses to Pagano. Why I don’t know, but it’s not considered to be part of Arian’s official W-L record.

  191. JimmyJack Says:

When does Bruce arrive at TIA? I want to be there to greet him. I’ll be head to toe in Red and will be waving my creamcile pennent!!!!!

  192. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Defense Rules

That’s really dumb… Also doesn’t change the fact that we’d be damn lucky to land BA. And I have a strong, strong feeling that if he ends up being the guy, he’s going to bring Le’Veon Bell with him.

  193. lambchop Says:

Why are some people worried about long term solution when we haven’t had a long term solution for more than a decade with younger healthier coaches?

  194. WillieG Says:

It might be Nick Saban. I was thinking Bill Belichick because he wants to be the GOAT, and he can’t be that if everyone says “yeah, but he had Brady”. Then when Licht said resigning Humphries was the top priority in the offseason, well that just clinched it for me since he is a prototypical Belichick slot receiver.

The Glazers want to make a splash. A huge, sell out every home game in a week, kind of splash. Those are the two who would do that. The ONLY two.

So I say it’s either Saban or Belichick.

  195. firethecannons Says:

on board with Bruce Arians 100%!–He was large and in charge of the Az Cardinals out here in Arizona, nobody got away any BS–Grimes would be called out for his nonsense he pulled–holding back his play because he was not being paid enough even though he agreed to contract. Mesean Jax all about his receptions–this team needs a Bruce Arians. I like his coordinators too.

  196. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @WillieG

I don’t want Saban. And I’m not gonna hate on you for having your pipe dreams. But no way do we land Bill Belichick. I really don’t think it’s possible. Don’t get me wrong, I would be beyond stoked and amazed and thrilled if some how some way it did happen.

But it’s not going to happen.

  197. firethecannons Says:

Bruce Arians will love the Tampa Bay climate–what’s not to love over there, sleepy coastal town with excellent seafood.

  198. 911bucs Says:

If it’s BA I bet he lures Patrick Peterson from AZ.

  199. Geno Says:

It is Arian’s. He already has some of his coaches lined up and they are inquiring about where to live in the area. I think the transition of head coach after Arians might be Harold Goodwin or Freddie Kitchens – depending on who gets the job.

  200. EA Says:

All signs have been pointing towards Arians, Joe must really know something otherwise he wouldn’t put his reputation on the line with an announcement like this although the Glazers have been unpredictable in the past.
I see some bucs fans are upset of the fact the Arians could potentially be our next coach, at this point it would be a major upgrade over what we had even though it happened a year late.

  201. oxycondoms Says:

    or david johnson?

  202. MadMax Says:

Also, if its Arians, we might be able to lure Tyrann Mathieu…..why not?

  203. Howard Cosell Says:

    🤣

  204. Defense Rules Says:

@SwiftyBucs … “we’d be damn lucky to land BA.” Actually Swifty I agree with ya about Arians. In reality (IMO), he’d end up acting as the President of Football Operations that I still favor. He’ll set the VISION for this football team, something we desperately need. And whoever he wants, Lapdog will draft or sign in FA. THAT’S a very good thing far as I’m concerned. Arians also has the ‘network’ I’m sure to land some top quality assistant coaches, something we desperately need here to develop our younger players (and we have quite a few of them in case no one’s noticed). Still can’t see him coaching though for longer than 2-3 years (not a biggie IMO as long as he sets the foundation for fixing this mess).

  205. StoutGospel Says:

    Awwww…JimmyJack…the hack. Fan club addition.

Hey Jimmy…how do you spell Pennant again?..like “pennent”??!
Or how about Creamsicle…like “creamcile”??! Clearly didn’t make it far from the short bus crew did ya?

And if you actually read all the threads on here in the past few weeks, THIS GUY was the one specifically advocating (tough eord for ya there) for Team Glazer to acquire JOHN Harbaugh in a trade. Above I simply wrote the other candidates that might be otherwise in play given the odd Tuesday unnecessary delay.

  206. StoutGospel Says:

And no…Bruce Arians is no “splash”, and ain’t the overall coach that John Harbaugh would be for the Bucs.

  207. Joe In Michigan Says:

If Arians is our next coach…I wonder what Arizona’s asking price for Patrick Peterson would be.

  208. Rob in Land O Lakes Says:

It’s bad enough that we have the reputation as the place where coaching careers come to die, now we’re going to be the place where coaches ACTUALLY DIE on the sideline!

Gene Deckerhoff: “3rd & 12, Jameis in the shotgun, Jameis rolling right, throws it into triple coverage PIIIIICKED OFF!!! …. Bruce Arians is down on the sidelines …Gerald McCoy’s trying to get the paddles from the training staff but can’t get around more than one trainer…Brent Grimes grabs them but he’s only paid to use one paddle on ol’ BA…….”

  209. BucEmUp Says:

Jimmy Jameis actually ran a crap load of play action. The problem was the running game wasnt good enough for the play action to always work. The running game never took off because they were always playing catchup with a porous defense. Its just one thing after the other. The offense became so vanilla and repetitive. Koetter changed a lot. Arians would be an instant playoff birth for the bucs

  210. JimmyJack Says:

Gospel….no no no no no buddy. Your all mixed up man.

Your on a football site. Nobody here gives a rats ass about Grammer. There’s a few Bucs sites where fans bicker about stats and analyitical data all day. That’s the place for you.

Hey but call me out on that nonsense all you want. All anyone gonna remember is you the fool who thinks Bruce isn’t no splash hire……You got a place here to come cry about it after BA gets the job. You can babble all you want about how it aren’t a splash hire while we are drooling watching Sports Center and the rest of the sports world blows up about the momumental HC hire Our Bucs just pulled off.

  211. BrianBucs Says:

I said over a month ago that the Buc’s would fire Koetter and pursue somebody that already had a relationship with Winston, like Arians or Harbaugh.
I think the decision was Arians for a while now, everything else the Bucs have been doing is just windowdressing.
Just shows that Licht and the Glazers are still all in on Winston. Going to get somebody to try to “fix” him.

  212. JimmyJack Says:

This time the Buccaneers are truely going to win the off-season!!!

    GOO BUCS!!!!

  213. Anonymous Says:

  215. Issaic haggins Says:

Spend 3 percent of cap to lose or spend 12 percent of cap to win ……… Think About it ………. Think About It Long and Hard !!!!

Winning Makes Team Worth 500 mil More ……… Really a 20 mil coach isn’t a big deal , nor is a 8 mil coordinator !!! Are you Going to be in front of the windshield or smelling the exahaust !!!!

  216. Dave Says:

Rick Stroud disagrees with you, Joe. He says there is no time table.

  217. WillieG Says:

    SwiftyBuc,

I don’t know a whole lot about Saban. And you’re probably right about Belichick……but if I’m right, imma gonna look like a genius!

  218. Iron Wombat Says:

Meh Rick Stroud’s an idiot, only time that guy could pass himself off as anything other than that is when he was doing a radio show with Tom Jones since Jones is an oxygen thief.

  219. WutdaBucisthis Says:

Yes… BA get us to the Superbowl… At home!!!!

  220. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If this 8s true, the Bucs probably had a verbal deal with someone before the last game, and they had to wait until they fulfilled the Rooney Rule before they announced it.

That would mean it was no one who was working for an NFL team at the time…fired coaches, retired coaches, or college coaches.

    Which gives us who?

    Bruce Arians
    Mike McCarthy
    Jim Harbaugh
    Brian Kelly
    Nick Saban
    Chip Kelly
    Hue Jackson
    Jim Caldwell
    Chuck Pagano

  221. Easy Says:

    DABO SWINNEY please!!!

  222. BigMacAttack Says:

Licht is so gonna screw this up. Wake me up when they sell the team to a competent owner. Paging Mr Jeff Vinik.

  223. Todd Says:

You know, I think Hue Jackson has gotten a bad rap.

He’s actually a brilliant offensive coordinator and a true leader of men.

The Bucs would be smart to hire him.

    By FAR the best candidate.

To be clear all that needs to be fixed is the crap defense, running game and special teams.

The Sage lives! The man is connected!!!!!!

  226. Ndog Says:

Man he is a perfect fit BUT he had chest pains and high blood pressure. That can’t be something that is completely ignored.

  227. IE Buc Says:

I would be okay with Arians, but I wished we would take seriously and a closer look at Brian Flores, who I think can be the next great coach. There is also Zac Taylor who looks like a future star OC.

  228. adam from ny Says:

word on the streets is they actually re-interviewed koetter…

he promised to do things a little differently with time outs, and is going to seize ali marpet’s little banjo in the locker room and break it in half in front of the whole team, while ranting “real men do not banjo or play ping pong!…it’s beer pong or nothing around here mofos”…

koetter is being re-hired…only the glazers and steinbrenner pull moves like this…

see billy martin as yankees manager in the 70s – 80s

dirk is back as of tuesday!…

and he promised to carry a big stick

  229. Defense Rules Says:

@Ndog … “To be clear all that needs to be fixed is the crap defense, running game and special teams.” Still have those blinders on I see ndog. Might say you’re as consistent as the Bucs (they managed to hit 5-11 TWICE in a row … which maybe should tell all of us something about their situation as a TEAM?).

Yes our defense needs fixing. Yes our RB stable is pretty bare. Yes we need a better kicker. But right now we only have TWO decent OLinemen under contract (Jensen & Marpet). And we only have TWO experienced WRs under contract (ME13 & Godwin). And our franchise QB has kinda had ‘issues’ of his own (unless you don’t consider leading the NFL in turnovers to be an ‘issue’).

In the end however, you win & lose as a TEAM in the NFL ndog. Virtually every element of this TEAM needs work (and not just ‘tweaking’) IF we’re to become a consistent winner. Our solution to our ‘issues’ in the past too often seems to have been to bring in one ‘mercenary’ after another to ‘fix’ this team. Our ONLY glory years came when we actually BUILT a TEAM the right way … from within. Home-grown talent, with a focus on DEFENSE. John McKay did it (even though Culverhouse was too cheap to help him finish the job on the offense side IMO). Tony Dungy obviously did it also (just needed a little better offense, which is what Jon Gruden provided).

But the Bucs IDENTITY has always been strong DEFENSE ndog. Same with Carolina BTW. Not so with New Orleans & Atlanta over the years (both of them seemed to focus more on offense, and it wasn’t until they worked diligently to improve their DEFENSE that they became consistent winners).

That focus on DEFENSE changed under Jon Gruden, and we’ve never recovered IMO. I really want to see us get back to who we REALLY should be … a TEAM with a great DEFENSE and an offense that’s good enough to play COMPLIMENTARY FOOTBALL … minimize turnovers, control the clock, and put TDs, not FGs, on the board when we get into the Red Zone. Marching bands that look good between the 20’s don’t impress me.

  230. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Apparently George Edwards’ contract expires Tuesday. I see people speculating a connection.

  231. richbucsfan Says:

I haven’t read anywhere but here that a new coach will be announced. If true, JBF scooped everyone else.

  232. Anglican Says:

It will be Dabo after the National Championship game. Why else wait till Tues. No distractions for his team for the game.

  233. Clodhopper Says:

I dont care who it is. I only have three requirements. His first name must remind me of die hard, his last name must remind me of skin heads, and it is an absolute MUST that he likes to wear derbies.

  234. TDTB Says:

Since Arians is under contract with the Cardinals, I wonder if there is an “out” if Arians can’t return as HC? As long as the Cardinals HC slot is open, he can “in theory” return, which would mean Cardinals get compensation if Bucs want to interview/hire Arians. If HC slot is filled, Arians can’t return…so I would guess league offfice would say it’s no longer tampering.

  235. AlteredEgo Says:

Josh Mc Daniels will be the name pulled out of the hat !

  236. BrianDorry55@yahoo.com Says:

People mad because Arians is aging…

Pete Carroll is older…Bill Belichick is the same age…anybody gonna complain if we hired either of them?

  237. Kobe Faker Says:

“Whatsup with this George Edwards? A sportsbook has this guy as favorite to be Bucs HC?

Are Team Glazer that out of touch f reality?”

    Kobe Faker

  238. Easy Says:

Been calling for Dabo for a few weeks now. Hope it happens

  239. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Definitely hoping for Bruce Arians. I believe he is the perfect fit.

If it can’t be Arians, than I would want Kris Richard. But that seems less than likely since JOE is reporting that it appears the Bucs have made their decision.

  240. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

… and Richard is still in the playoffs

  241. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    It’s not Bruce Arians…………..no way…….

It’s obviously a coach in the playoffs right now, and that’s why they are waiting til Tuesday.

There’s three main reasons why it’s not Arians

#1 The Galzers want a long term coach (arians is short term)

#2 He would’ve been hired by now (he has no commitments to anyone)

#3 The Glazers are too cheap to pay for a Veteran coach

…………..these are all valid points. If Malcom Glazer was still alive, he’d do whatever it takes but these dumb Glazer boys are clueless on running a successful organization in the NFL and are CHEAP!!!!!!!!!!!

  242. donuts Says:

It either Bienemy or Arians. After Bieniemy met with Jets-Bucs, he declined AZ HC interview, very telling.

    Why Tuesday?
Unspoken rule in NFL to not release HC decisions during any NFL post season game day (Sat-Sunday). Since NCAA championship is Monday, they won’t announce it then since it would be in the back of the sports page behind all the game coverage from ALA-CLEM. It’s all about they NFL hype machine. Sad but true facts.

  243. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Well explained, donuts, about Tuesdays. For all of my 35+ years of watching the NFL, I actually was not really aware of that, lol.

    Thank you, sir.

  244. SchwiftyBuc Says:

#2 He would’ve been hired by now (he has no commitments to anyone)

Incorrect Anthem, as per usual. Bruce Arians is still technically under contract with the Cardinals. If we want him and he wants to come here, then negotiations will need to be made with the Cardinals that release him from that contract.

Now I’m not saying for sure that it’s Arians. Because it could easily be a litany of other candidates. But I sure am hoping that it’s Bruce.

  245. AlteredEgo Says:

Yo…Joe kick the weekend intern in the azz and tell him/her to stay off social media and release my posts

  246. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Easy

I’m not a big fan of college coaches moving up. Someone said Urban Meyer…that’s a freaking joke….the vast majority are calling for Saban…he’s had his chance and notice when he left Miami he didn’t go to another NFL team but scurried back to the NCAA where you get the chance to out recruit everybody. The ONLY time this year Saban will face a team with equal talent will be against Clemson.

Which brings me to your post. Although I’m not a college coach supporter I agree with your choice if we do it.

If the Bucs brought in Dabo I’d certainly get excited. The dude is just a great coach…but again that’s college. Still he’s seems so together in his interviews that I would not be upset if the Buc’s picked him.

  247. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

^^ Very good points, Schwifty, about Arians and something still needing to be worked out with the Cardinals.

  248. Dave Says:

Its going to be george edwards ans they will keep offensive staff in place and i will puke. Guranteed

    FALSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES………..sure…….people are using this as a Cliff hanger………..

BUT…………..it’s obviously it’s not a show stopper to anything and that’s why Arians has been putting his feelers out there for HC jobs
Those words on his contractual and furthermore the Cardinals organization has not put out anything saying otherwise.

I can GUARANTEE you those small details have been already worked out with the Cardinals organization.

    Besides,

Arians is not the answer here……….we need some young blood around here and I like Kris Richards too.

  251. Buc1987 Says:

Who cares about his health concerns?

    Who? 1/2 this board.

    Why? I have no idea.

Long term coach they say…..as if the Bucs have had one of those the last 15 years or so…

    Bucs fans are hilarious.

  252. Buc4evr Says:

Hoping for George Edwards. Keep our offensive coaching staff. Fix the Defense and this team can win .

  253. SchwiftyBuc Says:

It would take being a true fool to be upset if Arians is the guy. He has proven time and time again to be one of the best coaches of the modern era. He is literally incapable of fielding a team that isn’t competitive.

  254. Buccfan37 Says:

Urban Meyer laugh my ass off. That would test my Buc fandom.

  255. Owlykat Says:

You wouldn’t retain Licht to pick a HC if your target wasn’t Arians! So you Richards fans and those panting for a College Coach are likely outta luck. BA has turned around losing cultures in just one year twice and we need that bad right now. BA has had plenty of time since retiring to watch Jameis play and can easily see how the Buc’s OL is a huge reason for Jameis’ turnovers and he has connections to bring us a real OL Coach to fix that quickly along with who he will tell Licht to draft for our LT and what OLinemen we need in Free Agency. He can choose between Pagano or the former Jet’s Coach to take over and fix our defense with Buckner’s help to bring a truly aggressive defense to scare our opponents. After many years and it is too stressful for BA to continue Coaching the Glazers can make him the President of our Football Operations and he can elevate one of his Assistants to HC and he can sit with Licht in the draft room and make sure he doesn’t choose any more duds like Jones. I would love to see BA choose to go back to the red jerseys with Pewter pants that we proudly wore in winning the Super Bowl. BA will win some more Super Bowls for us! Can’t wait for his announcement Tuesday!!!

  256. StoutGospel Says:

Not gonna be a real good look for @Joe if it’s not both by Tuesday and Bruce Arians. Even just one of those…neah.

Holding out for Ravens loss Sunday afternoon, which brings my boy JOHN Harbaugh to town! Please Team Glazer make it so!

  257. Bucamania Says:

Arians makes a lot of sense, This team needs a real leader and creative thinker. A CEO-like HC. Arians will attract top coaches too.

  258. Deminion Says:

Great hire people think Winston sucks funny that Arians with his pedigree would come out of retirement to coach this team…go bucs

  259. Crockett69 Says:

    I like the way you’re thinking Mikiebucsfan76

  260. TOM Says:

If BA wasn’t given a clean bill of health he wouldn’t be returning to coaching or would his wife let him. And also I don’t think the Glazers & Licht would hire him. I’m sure they done all the research needed. I hope its BA time.

  261. Jack Karako Says:

Not at all impressed with Arians’ hire as HC and Todd Bowles who failed in NY as Associate HC.

  262. Buc stops here Says:

It is 1 pm Tuesday, no announcement. However there are reports negotiations are beginning with Arians. It think this was a little optimistic in the reporting and a best guess by people, not a certainty. You might want to re-read what is written here in this post. Joe shared what the Friday afternoon plan was at One Buc Palace. None of that changed.–Joe I would say this is not accurate and that there will be a report as Arians as coach, but it won’t be until later in the week, not today as reported here.
