Second Record May Have To Wait

December 3rd, 2018

Passing mark may be in reach.

Yesterday, America’s quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, became the all-time Bucs leader for touchdown passes when he had two against the Panthers, passing leaky, sleepy Josh Freeman.

There is a second record Jameis could still set this year but he would need four solid games to do so.

Currently, the all-time leading passer in Bucs history is Vinny Testaverde. He had 14,820 yards passing. Jameis is second with 13,577 (he passed Freeman who had 13.534 yards).

For Jameis to break Testaverde’s record, he must average 311 yards in the final four games this season. Possible? Sure, but unlikely unless Jameis has one monster game with, say, 400 yards passing.

So looking at the Bucs’ schedule, just a hunch that Jameis won’t top Testaverde’s mark until the opening week of the 2019 season.

Damn Vinny threw a beautiful deep ball

  2. Fix_it_already Says:

    That pic looks like freeman

  3. old time buc Says:

Well eventually it will happen. They (glazers) should see he is the best Qb on Tampa.

  5. BucTown Says:

Great stat for Jameis, but he’s now in danger of losing the most-turnovers title to either Manning or Bortles.

  6. Larry Says:

CHANGED MY MIND!!! Koetter should have ONE MORE YEAR. The offense is humming. The defense is better than at the atart of the year. Winston should be better. The defense should be even better. Just need a couple of more JPP type Game Wreckers and a stud running back. What we have now is okay, but no Todd Gurley’s or Saquan Barkley’s. So far, Ronald Jones is joke!! A wasted second round pick. The Bucs also need a stud safety, like the one last year that was available when they took Vea in the draft.

  7. doolnutts Says:

BucTown — I think he already has both beat LOL. Bortles got benched over it Eli may need to go into retirement depending on what media source you hear from in NJ. I have been very critical of Winston’s turnovers for the last two seasons now. It is great to see him finally hitting check downs/taking the sack etc. The benching might have been the greatest thing for him he seems to be taking care of the football, excited to see how we finish.

  8. Mr Lucky Says:

People are being very magnamimous to Winston – until he throws 2 more pics against the saints this Sunday – then the daggers will return. Oh well…..

Remember when we had a choice between Winston and Mariota?

Joe you should do a poll and ask which QB we should have picked 3 years ago.

  9. The Real Malloy Says:

Agreed Larry. One more year for the current administration. If we hit on 2 or 3 draft picks, we’ll be hard to beat.

  10. Alanbucsfan Says:

The Saints will come after Jameis full out pressure.
With no running game, Defense will have to play game of year or it will be a long day. If Bucs get behind alot, cue the turnovers and throwing Jameis under the bus…

  11. ben Says:

Winston threw for a total of 249 yds in last game >wow!! Do you think that scares anybody ? .. Winston is not accurate throwing deep or leading a receiver. Ok, great to have a win but the qb’s job is to be able to make all the throws.

  12. SOEbuc Says:

    Larry

Hell no on Koetter. Defense started humming when it was the Glazers that likely tossed Mike Smith to the curb and now Duffner has somewhat brought back the worst defense in the league. Too many reasons Koetter is not fit to be a HC starting and it starts with he has no clue about the defensive side of the ball. Second he makes terrible decisions about players, coaching, and calls. WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT BRATE CHALLENGE ON SUNDAY!!! How stupid can you be going down to the wire up by seven against a hard rival to lose a TO??? Last but not least, his playbook is basic and weak. Need HC that knows how and when to use all our players on our top offense.

  13. SOEbuc Says:

    ben

I believe Jameis led us about 75-yards down field for a TD on that first drive for the TD. He doesn’t need explosive plays like you and Koetter want he just needs to be smart and accurate. I believe Jameis was our top rusher, also.

  14. jjbucfan Says:

Amazing what you are able to accomplish when you are not down 21 -0 in the middle of the 2nd quarter. Some of that because of turnovers by BOTH of our QBs

  15. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    @Mr Lucky

No poll needed, very few would take Mariota over Winston. — The upside that Jameis has is twice what Marcus has.

  16. Season Is Over Says:

When does Winston go back to the Pro Bowl? It has been three years.

  17. BucsBandit Says:

VINNY RECORD IS SAFE. WINSTON WON’T PLAY ANOTHER BUCS GAME AFTER THIS SEASON. CYYYYYA!

  18. Kobe Faker Says:

We need to stop the run against the saints

    Jpp cant create running lanes

Our grass field will be an asset to their speed and change of direction

We need to grind and be atleast 1 score away into the 4th quarter

“I believe a history making event happening”

    Kobe Faker

  19. Larry Says:

SOEBucs: I hear you. You may be right. Koetter will not be there next year anyway so it’s a moot point. If Koetter goes, licht should also go. too many misses in the draft in free agency.

  20. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

LMAO at Mr Lucky. Mariota is brittle and not very good. He is basically who most of the informed fans thought he would turn out to be. With our line and lack of a running game there would be mutiny on hand trying to dump him so that we could try and upgrade through the draft.

  21. it's only just begun Says:

we have beaten the saints the last 2 games if my memory serves me right, why could we not do it again come sunday? pressure breese, do not let him step up in the pocket, if he cant be hit hurry him, put a spy on the backfield whether it’s kamara or ingram and stop them, easy peasy japanesey, oh and when were in the red zone score touchdowns don’t settle for field goals, but hit the field goals when we have to have them, no problem, and sack breese 3 times, piece of cake!!

  22. Rayjay1122 Says:

Sometimes after reading some people’s comments, I swear I come away slightly less intelligent than before reading them. None the less, it is pretty entertaining. If everyone was of sound mind, this site would not be as funny.

  23. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Rayjay1122

Thanks for your rant …I feel dumber now

  24. Bucs 14 Says:

I am torn over Magoo Magic. He has his moments of brilliance and you say wow!, this guy is goons be great. Then, he has his 3 pic 1 fumble games and you want to scream cut/trade him. If the guy could just get consistent.

  25. Buccaneerscotty Says:

Man I wish Freeman would have worked for us I really liked him thought he was going to be our Qb. Did not realize he has so many records oh well maybe Winston can do it…

  26. Rod Munch Says:

The triggered Winston haters crack me up, still holding onto the hope that he’s gone, and why? So the Bucs can go another 15 years of not having a QB and losing? Sure, anything but Winston…. and that’s why they’re idiots that don’t deserve an ounce of respect.

  27. Season Is Over Says:

Maybe people will finally realize that not many people in the city like Winston. Wins or no wins. What has Winston brought the city besides embarrassment? The average fans are not even watching the games on television.

  28. Tony LA Says:

    To all the Jameis haters…

Get your fingers out of your noses, stop spending your unemployment checks on Fruit Loops and cheap liquor, and for the love of anything good in the world – learn one damn thing about football before you open your booger-and-Fruit-Loop-crusted-mouths again!

We have a 24 year old QB setting franchise records and finally gaining maturity and you mouth breathers want to run him out of town?

    Come on!
The only way I don’t get truly angry at tome of the ignorant comments on this board is to pretend they’re all written as satire for a comedy site. Hilarious work, guys – keep them jokes coming!!

  29. Reach87 Says:

Ben you don’t know what you’re talking about. What was the result? A win with no turnovers. Who led the team in rushing? A QBs job is to execute the plays called and make a play when the other team (Kueckly, Davis, Short, Rivera get paid to do a job too) stops it. I call your attention to several runs that sustain drives. If you were asleep or watching the cheerleaders during the game, I also call your attention to the TD to Godwin (4th read). Did I mention the scrambling TD to Hump? I’m not saying he’s playing at pro bowl level this year (requires consistency) but straight out balled the last 2 games. You BS about “all the throws” and so on is straight hooey, Sir. Go Bucs!

  30. GhostofSchiano Says:

    Agree with @the realmalloy

Also hit on at least 1 FA signing / trade li kn e jpp

  31. GhostofSchiano Says:

    @Rod Munch

    Gggggrrrrrr

  32. Reach87 Says:

Ben the scout, Ps, you missed the slant to Godwin, too. Hilarious.

  33. Dwe Says:

There are a bunch of crazy son this site to want Jamie’s gone. We are fine. Just build a defense and we’re there. I’ve seen it all. Been a fan since 1976 and always will be. Dirk made a mistake by not launching Mike smith after last year and needs to be more involved in the defense. Maybe he’s learning. Not sure if duffner is the man to keep as D.C. I’d have to know a lot more about what he can bring to the table but at least he has made some steps in the right direction which is tough in mid season. Go Bucs

  34. Reach87 Says:

My comment about Winston rushing for first downs and his off-schedule TDS to hump and Godwin didn’t come thru…that was for you, Ben “all the throws” scouting man.

  35. JIMMY T Says:

    Ben
    R u INSANE!
Jameis makes all the throws! This HATRED must stop because u r clueless! Jameis has MANY DEEP THROWS! Do u remember this year alone Evans has a long one, DJAX even caught one and last year the same. U HAVE NO IDEA WHAT U R TALKING ABOUT! Jameis makes ALL THE THROWS. So ENOUGH OF YOUR NONSENSE! DJAX dropped a TD from Jameis against browns and he dropped a perfect pass in the first play of the game last week so the HELL w DJAX! And BTW try to know what u r talking about before u make a stupid post! Jameis can’t make all the throws, RIDICULOUS! Where ha e u been for 3 years! The correct statement should be DJAX could care less about working on routes after practice like everyone else so maybe JAMEIS is DONE W DJAX!!

  36. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Fitz taught Jamies how to scramble

  37. SenileSenior Says:

Right, Licht missed on JPP when he was not even on the market. Then he missed on Nassib when he was out there. And then he missed on Andrew “Who?” Adams.

Yeah but! He drafted Vita Vea instead of Derwin. And look at the fool who drafted the “can’t miss” kicker … in the second round after all when he “coudlas, shouda, woulda” ……
    ______________
    Go Bucs!!!!! Beat the Saints!

Oh, sorry they are unbeatable. … Just ask the Cowboys. … …. Oh that was just a fluke!

  38. Realbucfan941 Says:

    Bucs fan 7423,

How quickly you forget that Jameis 17yd scramble on 3rd down against Atlanta

  39. Bucsfanman Says:

Id rather him continue to focus on being smart and not turning the ball over rather than another useless record. Oh, and win!
    Let’s make it 3 for 3.

  40. D-Rome Says:

Breaking Buccaneer offensive records are meaningless.

  41. oar Says:

Stats are for losers….in this case a very accurate saying. 21-29
Scary how similar their records are after 4 years.

  42. 1sparkybuc Says:

Most productive offense in franchise history with Licht, Koetter, and Winston. Build on it.
