Peyton Barber Powers Past 200-Carry Mark

December 16th, 2018

How bout something uplifting to get the crap-sandwich taste out of your mouth after the Bucs served those for Sunday lunch during the last two games.

The Bucs have a real running back.

Yeah, Peyton Barber won’t be on anyone’s Pro Bowl ballot, but the 24-year-old continues to impress anyone willing to pay close attention.

Today, Barber racked up 85 yards on 19 carries against one of the NFL’s toughest defenses. And he found the end zone and caught a couple of passes. Barber’s power game and good feet were on full display.

With today’s effort, Barber broke the 200 carry mark on the season and now has 202 carries for 762 yards (3.8 yards per carry), with five rushing touchdowns plus one through the air.

The last time the Bucs had a back with 200+ carries was in 2015, when Doug Martin toted the rock 288 times for 1,402 yards en route to the Pro Bowl.

This is Barber’s first season absorbing a full-time load and he told Joe after today’s game that he’s not wearing down.

“Oh, yeah. I feel like I get stronger as the game goes on, as well [as the season],” Barber said. “Just keep feeding it to me. As a running back you get that confidence in you. I’m not saying I don’t have it at the beginning [of the game]. That’s just kind of how it is being a running back.”

Barber hasn’t missed a game over the past two seasons and acknowledged he’s still battling through various small injuries that slowed him in some games earlier this year.

He’s “tough,” Barber said, noting that it’s all meaningless fighting on days the team comes up short.

When the new Bucs head coach turns on the film, Joe is sure he’ll see a guy he wants to return in 2019. The Bucs are halfway to an effective one-two punch at running back.

Payton Barbera is not a starting running back in this league look how far we have sunk

  2. bucanation Says:

we accept below average as the norm so don’t pump this bum up joe its embarrassing

  3. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Peyton the above average Running Back Barber

    Go Bucs!!!

  4. Rod Munch Says:

He’s the generic runningback good for 700-800 yards a year in the Miami Dolphins offense under Marino – which is more than fine and why spending a 2nd on a RB made no sense when you had Chris Conte starting at safety.

  5. bucanation Says:

Barber is a back up always will be

  6. ElioT Says:

“Crap Sandwich” lol, I like that.

It feels like we’re continually served Atkins friendly sh*t sandwiches week after week.

Always a new spin on the sandwich, yet only one ingredient…

    Sh*t.

    Sh*tty, sh*t.

  7. Season Is Over Says:

    He sure made ROJO better.

  8. ElioT Says:

You’ve got to love Barber though.

The dude is a blue collar, hard working football player.

    I don’t think he’s a top 20 starting RB in this league.

If he is, then all kinds of heads neee to roll here when you’ve got all this offensive talent, and your starting RB isn’t going to get 1,000 yards over 16 games with the likes of Jones and Rogers as his competition.

    Glaziers need to clean house.

I really do like Dirk and Jason but they both have to go ASAP. It’s just not working out.

  9. Ndog Says:

The line, Barber and Jameis played well today the WRs were the problem today. Always something it’s like they takes turns sucking. Bengals game Jameis sucked, Giants game Fitz sucked, Wash game Fitz sucked, NO game Oline sucked, Pittsburgh game Fitz sucked, Atlanta game defense sucked, Carolina game defense sucked, Chicago the entire team sucked. What does that tell you?

  10. bucanation Says:

    Merry Christmas Glazers

  11. Kobe Faker Says:

“Barber needs to make 1 less juke and plant and go downhill…

Slows down in front of every defender he confronts

1 juke and use the stiff arm to break away

2 jukes do not make a right”

    Kobe Faker

  12. bucanation Says:

Barber said he feels stronger as the game goes on so why sidnt they giv ehin the ball on third down near the goal line

  13. Bird Says:

He ran hard today against a solid defense.

He is gonna be sore tomorrow for sure

  14. tnew Says:

Have the Bucs played a single game this season, that Peyton Barber would start for the opposing team? Just a question.

  15. tnew Says:

    let me answer

    Saints.. no
    Eagles… no
    Steelers.. no
    Bears.. no
    Falcons.. no
Browns.. no (Koetter might start him over Chubb but that would be wrong)
    Bengals.. no
    Panthers.. no
    Redskins.. Maybe
Giants.. no (But Barkley is a rook so Koetter might start Barber)
    49ers.. no
    Ravens.. no

Some of these teams he wouldn’t make the roster.

  16. Cs2 Says:

Joe always makes excuses for Jameis’ mistakes but absolutely HATES Rojo even though the coaching staff doesn’t give him the opportunity to play. The o-line has been sh*t whenever he’s on the field. Pathetic

  17. JimmyJack Says:

I love watching Barber try to run through defenders. He has put tons of defenders on their backs this year.

Watching Dirk abandon the rush and set us up for third and longs was unforgivable today.

  18. JimmyJack Says:

Tnew……Every one of them teams would still use Barber in their offense.

  19. Pryda...sec 147 Says:

I think the new coach will keep a good amount of current players at least 65%

  20. Jeffbuc Says:

Peyton Barber is not a starting caliber runningback. Today’s running backs are a threat to take it to the house every time they touch it. He is a great back up runningback. Give your starting running back a breather pick up some tuff yards. He isn’t a power runner a team would use for short yardage. He always tends to get gobbled up when we attempt that. And he is t a third down scat back. Because between him and Rodgers. They have to be two of the slower backs in the league. But yeah let’s celebrate his 3.8 yards a carry. Lock him in to be the starter next year so he can get another 800 yards rushing with 2 runs all season over 20. And please don’t even put the thought into people’s heads about signing bell to a big contract. The three backs who have filled in for him 34 year old deangelo Williams, Connor, and now Samuels have all put up similar numbers. So it must be the system and not the backs. Unless they are just the luckiest team in history with running backs. Another rookie a 4th round pick for the dolphins rand for 130 and had a 75 yards td run. And Samuels a 5th rounded had 140. They both have more than are second round pick has all season in there single game today. Are system sucks are scouting sucks.

  21. firethecannons Says:

    ElioT–LOL! only one ingredient!

  22. Dapostman Says:

Barber is a good football player. He’s not a flashy guy but gives 100% every time he is on the field. The coaches and the GM know this that is why they drafted RoJo. There should be room on any roster for a Barber. He’s just not a game changer and no disrespect in that.

  23. Bucsfanman Says:

He’s a solid back, nothing more nothing less.
Rojo?! Ya’ll crack me up! Not getting enough touches?! If we had a minor league affiliate, that’s where he’d be headed. He shouldn’t get another touch this season.

We should definitely keep Licht though, right?!!! (major sarcasm!)

  24. Destinjohnny Says:

So Jason has brought us the worst running back tandem in the league
He has the 27th ranked O Line
He has the 23 ranked qb
We have a top 5 rec Corp though
After 5 Jason years this is what he gave us

  25. Joe Says:

He has the 27th ranked O Line

    Ranked by who?

  26. Nick2 Says:

Yawn, did I miss Peyton Barber carrying us to victory? NO!!! Please give us a running back who can grind out 158 yards and will us to victory.
