Passing Alstott

December 30th, 2018

Yes, there’s lots of chatter about how Mike Evans, with five yards receiving today, will break Mark Carrier’s franchise-record mark of 1,422 yards receiving in a season.

But there’s another cool receiving mark in play.

With 22 yards today, Adam Humphries will pass Bucs legend Mike Alstott in total receiving yards, moving into 19th place all-time. In what seems like a typo — but it’s not — Alstott caught 72.1 of the balls thrown his way. Humphries has hauled in 70.2 percent. Joe would have thought the gap would have been at least 10 percent, considering Alstott was coming out of the backfield.

Humphries has 214 career receptions to Alstott’s 305.

It’s been quite a year for “Hump,” formerly knows as Rudy around here. He’s an astounding 25-year-old success, a walk-on/tryout player for the Bucs in 2015, who was waived early that season.

Humphries was clear in the locker room this week talking about how much he enjoys playing for Tampa Bay. But he also was clear that he was excited by the the upcoming free agent process.

Joe can’t blame the guy. It seems at worst, someone will pay Humphries at least $10 million guaranteed over a couple of seasons. That’s around what top slot receivers earn, and Humphries has 71 catches for 75 yards and five touchdowns this season.

Joe hopes it’s the Bucs. No matter the offense, you’d think there’s a place for a guy like Humphries.

71 catches for 75 yards. Solid.

  2. Bird Says:

Got a feeling bucs win a meaningless game in week 17 and lose out on Olivier or best offensive tackle.

We should never root for losing but I am rooting for losing today Hope they play hard and no one gets injured (especially Jameis who should not even be playing cause an injury will cost you 20 mil )

Mike Evans gets the record and shut him down.

and some think its not enough talent on this team to be playing in the playoffs. I am not saying its all Koetter but it seems what the Bucs need is just good coaching

  4. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

Setting the bar low joe comparing a wide receiver’s pass catching yards to a fullbacks pass catching receiving yards. But I guess that’s the losing culture we have.

So sad to be a Bucs fan

  5. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

According to joes pole, you idiot fans want us to lose today

YOU ALL ARE ALSO LOSERS IN REAL LIFE!!!!

  6. SilverBuc Says:

I love the picture Joes! #11 on Humphries where it belongs.

People are entitled to opinion. And yes to have the 5 th pick compared to 10 after this crap filled year.
    No need to call names

  8. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

    FIRST OF ALL!!!!!

POINTS is the ONLY thing that determines who is the best defense or offense

This crap about yards is complete BS. Does yards determine who wins the game or does who has the most POINTS determine who wins the game??

    Bucs top 5 offense??? Nahh…

Bucs defense??? Some scientists would say it doesn’t exist

  9. BigMacAttack Says:

Get rid of Licht first so he doesn’t screw this up too. As a GM, Licht is useless. And Take Dirk witcha.

  10. BigMacAttack Says:

Not idiots or losers, just want a higher draft pick for the new GM. A win today is bigger loss for the team.

  11. #1bucfan Says:

Of course everyone wants to win. It doesn’t make sense to win so we can have a moral victory going into the offseason with so many uncertainties.

  12. MadMax Says:

#7423 you must suck at life calling people you even know losers at life. I dont know if you’re the “loser” and just projecting, but you def suck at life with that statement……maybe you just want attention? hahaha

  13. WutdaBucisthis Says:

@ #1bucfan …well said. This roster will change BIG-time. This win means nothing for next year’s team.

  14. Buccfan37 Says:

Sure Atlanta won’t try to outtank the Bucs. They’d have to outtank that SB loss to the Pats, a tank for the ages.

  15. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

    Madmax-

Pretty easy to call someone a loser when yah know… they freaking vote to lose!!!!!!!

God I swear you fans are in denial

  16. Mike Says:

My bet is that Humph jumps ship off of this floating dumpster fire before he sinks along with it. Any respectable agent would get his client the hell away from here with all the chaos and incompetence. If Licht stays, he will focus on signing the lazy mediocre left tackle. Terrible.

  17. TOM Says:

If they don’t sign Hump, I am so done with this team.

  18. Jason Elliott Says:

Got a chance to meet Hump his rookie year. Total class act. I hope he re-signs here, but if not I wish him the best. Also he’s a South Carolina boy, so he might end up with the smelly cats. That would sucks.

Flash poll on getting new uniforms?

Go back to an evolution of the old red ones instead of the alarm clock fiascos

  20. Tvan1011 Says:

Bucs fan #7423 this game means nothing, people who do well in real life can see the big picture.

  21. MadMax Says:

#743231578868 whatever it is….you must be a lib snowflake….easily triggered and make up stuff to fit your narrative….things losers do

  22. MadMax Says:

If Hump does decide to sign with another team, draft his old teammate Hunter Renfrow. Hes probably going to be there in the 6th round. He reminds me of Hump, maybe a little better.

  23. SteelStudBuc Says:

    @Joe
Humphries is formerly known as Rudy?
How about Jameis formerly known as a predator of female nether regions. Oh wait he’s America’s Quarterback…..pro bowler…. what a JOKE. You think we’re stupid? Get off his pole. You know how many times Joe has written that Jameis is an average NFL starter? Many. –Joe

  24. SteelStudBuc Says:

    @Joe
Who is the best QB in the NFL?
Who deserves the title America’s Quarterback?
Who actually calls Jameis that besides You?
Why do u continue to spit in our faces?
