Cam Newton’s Bad Day

December 4th, 2018

Throttled.

Joe was running through some research on FootballOutsiders.com and noted a reference to the number the Bucs defense did on pouty Stinking Panthers quarterback Cam Newton Sunday was Newton’s worst game since he was a rookie.

Sure enough, that’s accurate. The last time Newton tossed four interceptions came at Detroit in November 2011 (against a Jim Schwartz-led Lions defense).

Newton and the Stinking Panthers were held to one touchdown in the second half of a 49-35 Lions win.

Andrew Potter of FootballOutsiders credited the Bucs defense for its “shocking” ability to shut down Carolina’s receivers so “easily.” Potter added the Bucs’ pass rush was a big reason Newton struggled and Poetter gave props to stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy for blowing up so many of Newton’s passes with pressure.

Yeah, Joe is still having a tough time processing how a collection of nobodies and never-beens in the Bucs secondary clamped down on the Stinking Panthers’ talented receivers so well, especially considering how the Bucs were alley-beaten by Carolina in November.

    Logic would seem that a group of perpetual back-ups decided to collectively pad their resume’s when given an opportunity.”Some days you get the bear, and some days the bear gets you,” Newton hampered by a bad shoulder and a less than spectacular supporting cast ran into an unusually aggressive bear at the Ray Jay Sunday.

    I will tell ya how it happened Joe

    The diehard fans showed up. The energy was palatable and the Tampa —> BAY Chant was intimidating like the old days…

    When the 12th man shows up this team shows out!!!

    cam’s dressing is so forced – he looked really funny at the presser in that ego outfit he was trying so hard to sport…the no shirt look wasn’t working with his garments…

    “Will the HC/panthers bench Cam after this 4 int game?

    Klueless Koetter cost the Tampa franchise 2 wins by sitting JW in the Giants and redskins game…

    we should be 7-5 and in playoff contention

    Instead of being a steadfast desicive HC leader, Klueless the Klown juggled our team to try to save his job

    And ironically will be fired because of this ill devised decision to juggle the QBs

    “2019 Buc season was the year of the Idaho hot Potatoe”

    I 100% agree with Kobe . I want Koetter back next year but his ego ( by sitting Jameis) cost us big time. How in the hell did a professional head coach fall for Fitztragic. I mean any one who knows football had to know that we were living on borrowed time with Fitztragic. For that mistake I think Koetter should go.

  8. Jeff Says:

    Dirk’s gotta go. 1. Stuck with Fitz too long and didn’t see the obvious regression that was looming. 2. Made the idiotic decision to bring back Mike Smith. 3. Players don’t believe in him and trashes players during press conferences.

  9. Buc believer Says:

    @Alaskan… I am DEF not a GMC lover but I am fair and give credit where credit is due. GMC has a good game. A few more of those in the beginning of the season would have done wonders but I guess we will take what we get.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    As a Jameis fan, I felt the same way at the time of the benching. But now in retrospect, especially with the way Jameis is performing, I am not so sure that the tough love approach from Koetter is not exactly what the Doctor ordered to help Jameis fix his game.
  11. BucsBrand Says:
    Maybe I am captain obvious here but Cam was off and short all day. He obviously has something wrong with his shoulder. Not to take away from what our Defense did but there was a handful of times we could have been torched and Cam just couldn’t get the ball on the right spot.
    dirk has to go!!!!!!!
    if he stays, his seat will not get any cooler….he’ll enter the season on the hot seat again because this will be his 4th year and we will all expect playoffs…..something we expected this year with all the additions we’ve made…..
    his bad decisions with the qb situation, clock management, taking over play calling, sticking with smitty and failing to produce a run game should get him canned…..
    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!
    To be fair, Can was hurt. Also,McCoy was great as usual. Neener neener.
    Oh my lets not give the Bucs & there secondery just due. Lets say it was because Newton was hurt. C’mon give me a friggin break.
    Those no name guys were youngry
  16. Pickgrin Says:
    Yes – the tenacious Dline and scrappy young secondary deserve credit for playing hard and making the plays that came their way respectively.
    Newton”s shoulder was an obvious problem, however, and shouldn’t be overlooked as at least part of the reason for SCam’s “worst game” in 7 years…
    I was personally disappointed not to see any shots of poor widdle Scammy pouting underneath his towel on Sunday. Did I miss it – or has Newton actually grown up enough these days to not hide and pout underneath a towel when things aren’t going his way?
  17. Cobraboy Says:
    I watched the Coaches Film on NFL Game Pass, and I confirmed something else that caused Newton problems: after McCaffrey gashed the Bucs early in the game, on 90% of all the Kitties plays they put David on McCaffrey and Whitehead on Olsen. When Olsen went down, Whitehead went back to zone and Newton had fewer options, and the rush caused him to put the ball up for grabs.
    Is this what Duffner has planned for Kamara?
    I recall a Belichick defensive stratergy is to take away the best offensive player and make a team beat you without him.
    Thing is, Peyton has many more weapons that the Kitties.
