Monday Decision On QB

November 18th, 2018

Decision Monday.

It was like two different quarterbacks. One was who we thought he was: a journeyman. The other is who we thought he was: a stud of a prospect with a gifted arm.

Ryan Fitzpatrick started today and he was godawful. It was so bad that Bucs Bit-O-Honey-snacking, Ozark-watching coach Dirk Koetter had seen enough of and once again this season, had to go to the bullpen for relief.

America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, was on fire, leading the Bucs to four touchdowns on his first four possessions. Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network after the game, Koetter said he wouldn’t make a decision who will start next week against San Francisco.

“[Jameis] looked great, he looked great,” Koetter said after the game. “Unfortunately, whatever quarterback we put in second looks great. We need our quarterback who goes in first to look great.

“We have been saying all along Jameis was going to get another opportunity. We knew it would happen. He went out there and made the most of it and good job by him.

“We will look at the tape and we will let everyone know at the press conference what is going on.”

Well, Joe will just say this: In his last five starts Fitz is 0-5. In his last four starts, Jameis is 2-2. Stop with the nonsense that Fitzpatrick gives you the best chance to win.

Of course, if there is some secret handshake with Team Glazer we don’t know about where the Bucs are tanking in order to draft Nick Bosa, then Joe fully understands endorsing Fitz starting.

  2. Bucs Fan #7423 Says: Says:

Jameis always looks good enough at first to get your hopes up, then turns the ball over. Just like Fitzpatrick.

Both these QB’s are terrible. Like having to choose between eating a turd (Fitz) or a turd sandwhich (Jamies)

  3. Dapostman Says:

Mr Wishy Washy needs to sleep on it? The only decision that needs to be made is by the Glazers and canning Mr Wishy Washy. Oh and take your bromance partner DJax with ya!

  4. EA Says:

I don’t want to see Fitz take another snap for the Bucs this season, if anything happens to Winston give the ball to Griffin.
Season is over and do is the Dirk Koetter regime, a year too late.

  5. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Any chance it’s an interim coach making the call on Monday? Nah…Winston made it just close enough to keep Koetter.

  6. TBTemojin Says:

Nick Bosa and JPP would be nice…..

R U SERIOUS WINSTOW ALMOST HAD 3 INTS AND 1 REDZONE FUMBLE AND U SAY HE LOOKS GOOD? DAMN

  9. Mulberry Buc Fan Says:

Omg, wipe the sweat from Winston’s butt off your lips. Its showing in your writing. Yea, he did good… against A TERRIBLE TEAM AND DEFENSE. That’s like praising a person for paying. Child support.. it’s what you’re supposed to do. Give him time as we seen today he flirted with 3 picks himself and 1 fumble. In just 1 and a half quarters. Hell be the starter next week and he’ll give us his true self.

  10. Easy Says:

Frauds. This organization is all frauds

  11. BrianBucs Says:

Both starting QB’s stink. So let’s see what Ryan Griffin can do . The season is lost, so what do they have to lose, right?

  12. Curse of Gruden Says:

Monday’s question is “will Koetter still be the HC?”

  13. Rod Munch Says:

Another Thanksgiving where I get to hear all the anti-Bucs slobs talk trash about the Bucs. I hope before I die that the team again has a run like they did under Dungy.

  14. Rod Munch Says:

It’s always amusing watching the triggered Winston haters have a meltdown, at least we have something good coming out of today’s game.

  15. FR Says:

I BET U ALL HE WILL THROW 4 MORE INTS BEFORE THE SEASON IS OVER IF HE CONTINUES TO START. HE IS JUST LIKE FITZ HE WILL FLASH THEN BLOW IT OVER AND OVER.

  16. LakeLand Says:

Oh yeah, they have to make the difficult decision

Should we start Joe Montana or Steve Young?

    LOL

  17. Bculaw Says:

Has anyone charted how JW has performed under center as compared to out of the shotgun? Was driving long distance this afternoon and listened to the game on the radio. Every time JW took the snap under center, good things seemed to happen.

Run game +, play action = success for JW. Always has.

Don’t give up on the QB. Adjust the scheme to fit his strengths.

  18. SilverBuc Says:

Oh my FR, what a bold prediction, 1/2 an interception a game!!! Hater.

  19. FR Says:

4 YEARS NO PLAYOFFS, NO RUN NO SB NO NOTHING YES WINSTON IS OUR GUY HOW BLIND ARE U ALL.

  20. Joseph Mamma Says:

“Stud of a prospect with a gifted arm” doesn’t amount to much.

I mean you can say that about Jamarcus Russell.

  21. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Only thing good about this game is our kicker made all his field goals

  22. Gofortheface30 Says:

Can the guy with the “gifted arm” throw a tight spiral to save his life? The guy had a fumble that was lucky to be recovered by Evans and another god awful throw that the Giants simply dropped. The other would be interception was Adam Humphries fault, although maybe not throwing behind him would have helped. How in the living hell is this vindication for you Joe. The Bucs lost. What are we even talking about here. Your lack of objectivity is bizarre

  23. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Yeah Joe, Winston only threw 4 TD passes in just over a quarter. Let’s let the third string guy play. We have the dumbest fans on the planet. If you morons didn’t see enough today to want to watch him play this season out and make an educated decision on JW with 6 more games of tape you’re an idiot. You guys hate him so much you’re willing to go back to the glory days of Leftwich, McCown and Glennon. If JW is salvageable, and today it certainly looked like it, why in the hell would you want to create the need to draft a QB asap with the horrendous defense we have right now. We need to use every last draft pick we have on the defense. Oh, and we need a new GM to do it, because he appears to have wasted 3 out of his first four picks this year, and has three other second round picks that were complete and utter busts.

So true Rod they hate him sooooooo much. They just cant comprehend that he is actually good and they are wrong. It is fun the watch.

  32. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

I am no Jay Miss fan, but sure, start him unless you want to see what the other Ryan gives you.

  33. Ed Says:

I’ve been as critical of Winston as anyone but at this point in the season the Bucs aren’t playing for anything. Let Winston play he is he better option for the rest of the season. As always he makes some great throws but still has 3 or 4 plays a game that can lose the game. Those throws to Humphrey’s in traffic were bad decisions and his failure to secure the ball on the awkward run that resulted in a fumble he clearly was carrying the ball without securing it.

His TD throw to Evans was great. The slant to Humphries for a TD was the first time I’ve ever seen him look at the primary receiver Jackson and look off and throw the TD. Maybe a good coach could teach him how to look off defenses and get better.

What a historically horrible first quarter team the Bucs are.

  34. FR Says:

    @ndog

WOW AND STILL NO WIN WOOOOOOOOOOO HE IS SO GOOD. U REALLY THINK WE WIN IF HE PLAYS THE ENTIRE GAME? PLEASEEEEEEEEE KEEP LOVING GUY HE WILL DRIVE U CRAZY.

    FACT WE LOST

  35. Darin Says:

Memo to Klueless. It doesnt matter who plays QB. Stop your stupid Monday reveals. You lost the team long long ago. Last year in my eyes, early last year. Adios. The sight of the guy is starting to make me sick. Had to give up drinking 7 years ago so now i cant watch most of the games now because i cant drink. Fire the clown please!!

  36. JabooBuc Says:

Rod Munch: you need to accept the fact that JW is completely responsible for the perception we all have of him, both good and bad. He can look great on one play and like a complete idiot the next.

He can be a complete head case off the field and then be a sincere seemingly honest guy the next minute. Regardless, it’s who he is and why he’s so polarizing. His inconsistency combined with his off field immaturity has put this coach and team in a bad position this year.

    It is all well deserved

  37. SilverBuc Says:

So Tom Brady is Jameis’s idol right? That’s been reported many times. Jameis is not an idiot despite what many of his detractors claim. How dumb will you all feel if he pulls a Brady move, because he loves this team, and signs a team friendly contract in the range of 10-15 million a year, with the condition that they sign a competent DC and draft for defense, and maybe he gets some input to offensive hires. Watch, that’s whats gonna happen.

  38. ndog Says:

  43. jerseybuc Says:

Both of these QB’s are turnover machines. If we had just a mediocre QB who could protect the ball we would have a winning record. Played about 4 or 5 taxi squad guys on D today and it showed. If Eli didn’t play well on Monday night I think we would have faced Lauletta today. I am for turning over the whole team short of the young receivers and Marpet. Time to blow this team up. Just embarrassing week after week. Glad I turned down the tickets today.

WOW AND STILL NO WIN WOOOOOOOOOOO HE IS SO GOOD. U REALLY THINK WE WIN IF HE PLAYS THE ENTIRE GAME? PLEASEEEEEEEEE KEEP LOVING GUY HE WILL DRIVE U CRAZY.

    FACT WE LOST

Face the fact that todays loss was on the coach not playing his best players. You just cant stand the fact that he is good and you are going to have to watch him play. Now go cry in the corner and accept the fact that he is going to be the QB here for a long time.

Are those tears rolling down your face?

  45. Bucs 14 Says:

Honestly, I do mot know what the answer is, so let me run down what I, a simple fan, see on the field.

    1. Coaching. Penalties and discipline have been better this season than in the past. Less penalties and less bone head plays. However, the team has no life in it. Morale is low. Seems like no vision for the team.

    2. QB. Both Fitz and Magoo are not franchise qb, even in people’s wildest dreams. They simply are not the caliber of player as a Brady, Brees, Roethlisberger, et al. How we fix this is debatable. Try to draft Will Grier out of WVU? Or stick with Magoo? Or find someone else?

    3. OL. These guys do not finish blocks or plays. I don’t think it is a talent issue. It is a motivation issue. These guys have quit.

4.RB/WR. Barber is not a stud. He is a good second back who shows brilliance now and then. He is not a 1st stringer. The WR issue is finishing plays. They look like they run at half speed. We have great talent. Motivation again?

5 The D. Pathetic, except for JPP. Vea Velcro is a rookie. He is strong but needs coaching. GMC93 should be embarrassed to cash his pay check. He has no heart for the game anymore. The DB seem to not understand coverage. There have been injuries yes, but they are supposedly professionals. No excuses.

    6. Overall. Koetter has lost the locker room. This team no longer cares this season.

  46. FR Says:

    @ndog

DONE WITH U DUDE, WHEN U CAN SEE TALENT THEN HOLLA AT ME OTHERWISE KEEP ROOTING FOR THE LEADING NFL INTERCEPTION KING. YOU MUST WORK FOR THE BUCS ORGANIZATION JUST LIKE THEM U CANT SEE WHATS RIGHT IN FRONT OF U.

    FR,

Turn off your caps lock. Your posts are like a f*cking r*tard. Maybe that’s what FR stands for?

  50. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I find it curious that you name Jameis America’s QB, Pro Bowler……and then describe him as a “prospect with a gifted arm”

After 4 years he should be much more than a prospect…..

And, I support his return and wish him improvement and success.

We need a massive influx of talent on defense….and new GM & HC….

It wouldn’t hurt to add a piece to the Oline…..

  51. Gofortheface30 Says:

“Can’t accept the fact that he’s good.” Lmao F’ing tardo FSU fans. You do realize he was BENCHED right? Your number pick in the draft has been BENCHED. We are going on year 5 you dumb nutsacks. He is what he is. He will have the occasional 22-30 280 yard game with 3 touchdowns and then the next game will be 24-40 with 3 interceptions. This is what he will ALWAYS be. I do admire all of you though for your commitment to living in complete denial

  52. Dapostman Says:

    @Bucs 14,

Good post. You called every player by his name except Winston and Vita Vea. You’re biased.

  53. Oneilbucs Says:

We need defense . I wish yall will just see that but for most of yall the hate for a 24 year old quarterback is all yall care about . We don’t need to draft a quarterback we need defense. I think most of yall really don’t care about the team as long as Jamies gone that’s all yall care about on this site. Defense defense defense.

  54. Kobe Faker Says:

  55. Bucsdelight Says:

Let’s see what Ryan Griffin can do. Maybe he can play better than the other two. Won’t take much.

  56. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Jameis Winston? A prospect? Really?

    4 years and he’s a just a prospect?

Bucs fans are getting tired of prospects we want the real deal.

  57. Cobraboy Says:

    I want Griffin.

  58. Oneilbucs Says:

But some of yall was saying let fiz start next year cause he can still get better at the age of 35 remember. And yall was saying he would lead us to the playoffs remember. I thought the team didn’t want him. It was all Jackson who was talking bad about Jamies. It was not the team . Keep Jamies and build a defense and running game and we will win. What happened to fizmagic. That’s why jets fans were laughing at yall .

  59. Not there yet Says:

Lol some of you really sound like haters or just racist by finding it so hard to criticize Fitz and so easy to find fault in Winston. Some ignorant dude actually here to talk about turnovers Winston almost had instead of the one Fitz did have really?

Winston has been pretty horrible this year but if your so much into stats look at his for the game. I’m not expecting him light the world on fire this season but the dude had a good game so stop being so petty and give credit where credit is due turd bulgar! You have the rest of the season to criticize Winston but I don’t understand why you would today it was a much better performance than we’ve seen in awhile

  60. Ruggyup Says:

Kudos to Gofortheface30 for that last sentence! Says it all Bucs’ robots and reminds you to pass on hourly switcheroo from one single personnel solution to another with varying degrees of bad vision, bad thinking and unthought out opinion. Unreal, this goes from the tippy top owners’ palace to the towel boy. Throw away those rosy glasses Joe.

  61. SilverBuc Says:

Jameis is not a “prospect”, he literally put the team on his back today, in a far less than ideal situation, and almost saved the season and Dirks job.

  62. Oneilbucs Says:

Joe it’s time to talk defense in this year’s draft. Let’s leave quarterback alone right now. Jamies will be here next year rather they like it or not. We need defense.

  63. Bucsdelight Says:

    Current projects:

    9. Tampa Bay: Drew Lock, QB, Missouri

Lock is a rare four-year starter who has improved each season, and this year he is preparing in a more pro-style offense. Tampa Bay seems to have reached a breaking point with Jameis Winston, who has been unreliable on and off the field.

  64. Oneilbucs Says:

Bucsdelight with this trash defense that will be a bad pick. I know yall hate Jamies but we need defense. Look at the packers they are losing and they have Rogers so that should tell you something look at Wentz . The eagles won without him and now he’s playing and they are losing now because they don’t have the same defense pr running game like last year. We need defense not a quarterback.

  65. Not there yet Says:

Ok we now know we can stop talking about quarterback play in college, nfl is night and day difference. Even we draft a qb I don’t want to see a rookie play with this talent on offense

  66. Rod Munch Says:

Winston took a 2 win team to 6 wins, then 9 wins, then was injured for most of last season – even so how many games did Winston give the defense a 4th quarter lead only to see them collapse?

This year Winston is 2-1 with a decent kicker as he wins that Atlanta game, Fitz is 2-5, with or without a decent kicker.

Winston plays in a 1970s deep ball offense, yet the dopes think he if he throws more INT’s than a QB in a dink and dunk offense he’s a bust. BTW compared to QB’s that ran the Air Coryell offense the Bucs run, Winston is literally one of the best of all time, and certainly has numbers better than Dan Fouts had for 95% of his career.

Also there is the fact Winston has had the worst defense in football since the beginning of 2015 while playing the toughest schedule in football since the beginning of 2015.

You Winston haters are blowhards who just repeat what you read on bumper stickers – that’s why you’re so boring. You throw Winston under the bus, you fully back Fitz, then Fitz plays like Fitz and you immediately throw him under the bus and say everyone is awful. All you anti-Winston bores bring to the table is nothing, just burn down everything, anything but Winston, anything but Winston, anything but Winston….

  67. Reach87 Says:

Listen, if you think someone on this team over the last 3 games, gives us a better chance to win you are friggin mind. 60 more seconds and this is a win. Winston starts last week and that is a win. Our record is different. Love Fitz, but it’s as clear as day. You folks who think otherwise are talking out both side of your neck and arse. Wins are important, accuracy is important, what happened 2-3 years ago with an Uber driver is important, turnovers are important, being a captain is important, being elite is important, not “eating Ws” is important …blah blah blah. Is it wins or the other stuff you spout? If we are down less than 1 score with 60 seconds and Winston has the ball, we win. Team game and he does his part. If I’ve seen anything over the last 3 games is that we can still win even with the defense we have…if #3 is given half a chance. Again, our record could be different. Not over yet. Go Bucs!

  68. Anonymous Says:

Winston played well and earned the next start. And might as well start him for the rest of the season, give the Glazer’s a good look at what he’s worth.

  69. Bucsdelight Says:

    Oneilbucs,

I agree we need a defense. But the new rules of the NFL have pretty much put a stop to defense. It is all offense. We have the best WRs and TEs in the NFL and we can’t win games? We have/had the #1 offense per yds, and we still can’t win. Yes Defense is a problem, but like I said, the new rules don’t allow defense to do anything.

  70. Bucsdelight Says:

Also, drafting defense hasn’t proven fruitful for us. We have the talent, the coaches suck. History lesson on Bucs drafts.

    2018- Vita Vea (DT)
    17- OJ Howard (TE)
    16- Vernon Hargreaves (CB)
    15- Jameis Winston (QB)
    14- Mike Evans (WR)
    13- No #1
12- Mark Barron (S) and Doug Martin (RB)
    11- Adrian Clayborn (DE)
    10- Gerald McCoy (DT)
    09- Josh Freeman (QB)

5 Defensive players in the 1st rd over the past 10 years and it hasn’t helped. 5 Offensive players in the 1st rd over the past 10 years. 2 of them (Evans and Howard) have proven to be good for the team. The rest either didn’t cut it or only had a good season or 2 and are finished (Winston is part of that).

Drafting Defense or Offense isn’t really going to help us much as we don’t typically draft well. I still blame coaches for not bringing out the talent in these players.
