GMC Warrior-like

November 11th, 2018

Fought through an injury.

One may mock Gerald McCoy and may taunt him for their perception that he is overrated. But the dude is a warrior and he proved it again today.

Joe knows last year GMC played with a messed up shoulder and likely shouldn’t have been on the field but he played well — the New Orleans game springs to mind.

Well today, Joe noticed GMC walking out of the shower and dragging his right leg back to his locker. His leg was completely and heavily wrapped from his hip down to his ankle.

Joe has no idea specifically what the injury is. But GMC did finish the game and had one of the Bucs’ three sacks.

Joe went to talk to GMC off the record briefly before he spoke on the record to the assembled pen and mic club. GMC was in serious pain. Even just trying to put on shorts and slacks, he was grunting out loud and wincing and gritting his teeth.

Anyone who is in that much pain and is on the playing field is a warrior in Joe’s eyes.

My eyes are filled with tears after reading this Joe.
    That poor, poor warrior.
Where would we be without the Great 93?
    The mind boggles……..

  2. Dooshlarue Says:

……. oh yeah. Worst defense in the NFL.

  3. Season Is Over Says:

I just saw a tumbleweed go by.

  4. BuccaneerByBirth Says:

    Yeah that’s wonderful Joe

  5. DB55 Says:

McIceCream melting, ice up son ice up

  6. Javiersp15 Says:

He’s a warrior for playing hurt and getting manhandled by fresh of the street guards with 1 week of practice. Always showing up when the game is out of reach. I’m done with 93.

  7. Kalind Says:

I hear ya joe. It’s not about his play. It’s about the mindset he brings to the team. I don’t believe in coincidence and he and LVD have been here for all of this losing. It’s time to cut the tumor out. And I don’t think it’s intentional by either of them. Just a general wearing away at their psyche

  8. Bosch Says:

Correction, doosh. Worst in nfl history.

  9. ElioT Says:

Hey Joe! I think we all know which one wrote this garbage.

What a joke of an article.

Nothing but excuses for Gerald, it’s a broken record. Dude deserves a prime time Emmy for best disappearing act and one for best supporting actor.

****Real warriors are the men and women who fight and die for this f**king country so pu**ies like Gerald can make $12 million playing a game for 16 weeks a year.

    Worst article ever.

  10. DB55 Says:

Hey Vita got to the QB today HOORAY!! It took him 5 seconds but I’m sure he’ll take it.

  11. Not there yet Says:

He may be overrated? No he is overrated and him playing through injury is nothing new he’s gotten injured just about every year of his entire nfl career. Time to let go of the past.

  12. Buc believer Says:

Oh GMC is such a stud…. cough cough cough

  13. Dre Says:

Joe Gerald sucks he’s not a warrior … warriors don’t take plays off or leaves because of a boo boo

  14. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

Lol he literally had a sack today and he still manages to get hate. No wonder we are such a garbage team, we try to run off any talent we have. Aside from JPP, GMC is the only one on the defense with a shred of talent right now. As terrible as the defense has been all season and historically, WHY IN THE WORLD would we want to run off a top 3 DT in the league? Someone please explain to me what sense that makes? It’s a real shame such a nice guy like GMC has to put up with all the hate from you losers week in and week out. I cant wait until the day he leaves this loser fanbase and gets on a real team with fans that know how to appreciate a good player. Get a clue people…

  15. Patrick in SC (formerly VA) Says:

At what point does McCoy stop getting participation trophies and get judged for actual production?

  16. Dooshlarue Says:

    FDTB,

Call Hawaiian and I’m sure he will give you ample insight into the greatness that is McSoftie93

  17. BB Says:

No one represents the new age losing Bucs more than gmac he is the Bucs alltime loser and counting

  18. Bucanole Says:

Wait a min!?!? GMC is hurt again? That doesn’t sound right.

I watched JPP pace the sideline thoroughly confused/frustrated/crushed for a majority of the 2nd half. There rest of the joke squad took it like the cats they are.

  19. JimmyJack Says:

Patrick is right…….To give McCoy any credit for anything is basically just a participation award at this point. The dude is an absolute and pure stiff on the field.

The line he faced today was made of on players below replacement level.

I pity any fan that is proud of GMC after this game.

  20. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

You guys can knock and mock GMC for never performing in big games or in big moments, but how many big games or big moments has he REALLY been involved in in his career? Put Gerald on a team with talent and watch him show up.

  21. JimmyJack Says:

Even though McCoy is not known for being a strong guy a reasonable expectation for a probowl DT is that he would be stronger then a replacement level guard.

A probowler should make a huge impact if he is playing such a low caliber competition.

  22. LakeLand Says:

The defense improved their stats a lot today

They will move up in Tuesday rankings

  23. GMC hater Says:

The warrior lost to a bunch of backups..

  24. TonyC Says:

This organization needs to move on from GMC. And yes he may do well somewhere else but just doesn’t have what it takes to galvanize anyone around him.

  25. Patrick in SC (formerly VA) Says:

@First Down Tampa Bay – The argument could be made that it’s because of his (and the rest of the defense) lack of production that he hasn’t been in any high impact games. The offense has been good for a large portion of the season and for the last 3 years. The defense has been woeful for years.

If you want to make the argument that he would be good if you put other good players around him, look at what JJ Watt did in Houston all by himself for years. Look at what Aaron Donald did in St Louis before they started putting people around him. Look at the production Geno Atkins, who GMC is regularly compared to, gets in Cincinnati without anyone noteworthy around him. If you want to say that he would be special if he had other special people around him then it’s not him who is special.

  26. Ludicrous Speed Says:

Funny how it’s usually the weakest, most effeminate girlymen, without a shred of manliness themselves who take glee in trying to ridicule a real man who puts himself on the line, saying things that they’d never have the ballz to say to his face.

Oh, but they’ll come back and tell you from the darkness of their basement (figuratively), behind the safety and anonymity of their keyboard how rough and tough they are.

But you know it’s a lie because there is a brotherhood among those who have really competed and know what it is to endure agony and give their bodies up for the sake of the battle and their teammates; something that the wimpy whiners know nothing about because they’ve never experienced it, therefore they have no empathy.

They just can’t relate, so they project their own insecurity and inadequacy.

  27. Rod Munch Says:

But the online lynch mob tells me he’s “soft” and is a terrible player.

  28. Rod Munch Says:

TOUGH GUY!?!? TOUGH GUY!??! GRRRRR!!!! HE READS COMIC BOOKS AND SMILES! HE’S NOT A TOUGH GUY! HE’S NOT A LEADER!!!! GRRRR!!!!

  29. buccfan305 Says:

93 is soooooooooooooo over rated and every year the GMC crowd keeps waiting for him to have his breakout year. Well now he’s 30 and you think his best years are ahead of him. Stop holding your breathe guys before you pass out.

  30. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    Patrick

Stats aside, JJ, Donald and Atkins have basically won the same amount of big games as GMC. This really Donald’s first year on a good team, all those teams in St. Louis were garbage, and we all known the Texans wouldn’t even sniff the playoffs if they weren’t in a horrible division. And I think Atkins just speaks for himself.

  31. buccfan305 Says:

93 has been given every excuse in the book as to why he can’t get double digit sacks.
He has never done it over his 8 years in Tampa. Time to say goodbye. Straight Garbage!!!!

  32. buccfan305 Says:

    Warrior my A$$!!!!

  33. Jason Elliott Says:

I missed the last 2 minutes of the game because I had to tape because of work. That must have been when he got a sack. As for the other 95% of the game I did watch, I made it a point to watch GMC. I didn’t see him make a single play. Not one. The closest I saw was 1 qb pressure that kept a field goal from being 2 yards closer. Beginning to come around to the idea that GMC is overrated. Just saying.

  34. Pryda Says:

Just like I say about the coach LOSER!!!!!!

  35. jb Says:

I’m sure that Fat paycheck he gets from us ticket buying fans helps him deal with that “Warrior-Like” pain Joe’s referring to. Warrior??? Thanks for the laugh!

  36. jb Says:

I read this morning that we have the highest paid defensive line in the league. I wonder what percentage Joe’s “Warrior”, Gerald accounts for?

  37. Greg Says:

Anybody at the game notice whenever the Bucs played the GMC commercial to try and fire up the crowd that the sound was completely off and all you could see was him on all four corner screens waving his arms? Yeah, kind of how he looked all game to me, with the exception of the one sack he had!

  38. Dlavid Says:

Oh please Joe …. quit carrying 93’s water ! Blah blah , he’s a real trooper …. sorry Ben , my bad !

  39. Patrick in SC (formerly VA) Says:

@FDTB – You’re definitely right that those teams were bad, but they stood out as exceptional players on bad teams. The teams were bad around a clearly great player. McCoy has never been that. The message that we’ve always gotten was that he needed other great players to come to unlock his potential greatness.

  40. Phillybuc Says:

Joe, you shouldn’t throw the word “warrior” around so lightly especially on Veterans Weekend and especially describing this overacted steaming pile. Horrible article and tone deaf timing

  41. Rod Munch Says:

Where do you get your official online lynch mob tiki torch at anyways?

  42. Rod Munch Says:

McCoy today, a sack and 3 QB pressures.

That’s like an entire season of production from Vita. LOL!

I kid, I kid, I like Vita… kinda. Although with every game that passes I like him a bit less as I don’t ever see him doing anything.

Anywho for those today that said they didn’t see McCoy doing anything you should watch the game. I watched only maybe half of it, was multitasking with it on in the background, and I turned the awful commentary off on TV, and I saw McCoy getting double teamed on every single play and still getting pressure. If McCoy is getting double teamed it should mean someone else is not – and I didn’t see anyone else bringing up in terms of pressure – at least on the plays I saw. Vita did have that one play where Smith held onto the ball forever, then circled around and ran right into Vita who I don’t think moved more than 3 feet on the play even after it went on for 15 seconds, but I guess Nassib ended up getting that sack. I missed Vita’s actual sack however, but good for him, maybe it finally gets him moving and realizing there’s more to football than standing still.

  43. Greg Says:

Rod, Nassib knocked Smith into Vea on that sack

  44. John Says:

He didn’t look hurt after the game laughing it up with AP

  45. ghost Says:

one thing Ive learned here is that rod munch used many words to say nothing.

  46. Bucs 14 Says:

GMC and Vita are the Velcro Brothers.

  47. Max Says:

Saw him at the end of the game helping people up per usual, make of that what you will..

  48. BigMacAttack Says:

Gerald is a lot of things but warrior??? No not even close.

  49. gman Says:

stop with the clickbait….McCoy is a putz. Nobody feels sorry for him

  50. gman Says:

Pretty insulting on Veterans Day to call Gerald McCoy a warrior or even warrior like

  51. BurgDweller Says:

A bait article? The very reason I quite reading the TBT. You are better than this Joe.
