Difference In Two Defenses

November 9th, 2018

Steelers showed Bucs how to stop Cam Newton.

Hey, have you heard the Bucs have an awful defense? Well, Joe will give you an example why.

Last Sunday the Bucs traveled to Carolina and had their hats handed to them. At times, it looked as if the Stinking Panthers did whatever the hell they wanted to do on offense against the putrid Bucs defense.

When pouty Cam Newton went back to pass, he rarely had to worry about a Bucs defender in his grill. The Bucs had a grand total of five quarterback pressures while sacking Newton twice in 27 dropbacks, not counting scrambles.

Well, last night the Stinking Panthers played the Steelers and Pittsburgh whooped them up and down the field. Part of that was the Steelers had a relentless pass rush on Newton, sacking him five times and hitting him seven times.

One of those pressures directly forced Newton into a pick-six. Another time Steelers defender T.J. Watt blasted Newton in the pocket, causing Newton to fumble.

Of the 34 times Newton dropped back last night, a third of the time he had someone on his arse.

The way Bucs coaches this week whined about takeaways earlier this week, Joe thought he time-traveled to 2015 where Lovie Smith was bellyaching about takeaways constantly.

Hey guys, you want takeaways? How about putting pressure on the quarterback and force him to get out of the pocket or make dumb passes in order to save his neck?

Want takeaways that badly, putting quarterbacks on their rear ends might be a good start. Sure worked for the Steelers against a Bucs’ division foe last night.

Told people Carolina won’t be able to razzle-dazzle and call trick plays to beat better teams.

Man, these 3-4 teams are really giving the NFC south trouble!!!!! Its like it is hard to prepare for and is something very different then what they are used to seeing!!!!! To Bad the Bucs could not switch and run the 3-4 like the “real” fans and some coaches wanted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too bad the Bucs have GMC because that would supposedly waste his talents and he cried everytime that Coach Smitty even hinted at running the hybrid!!!!!!

Can’t wait until next year will have to try build another defense around GMC and fail, and to hear all the sheep say that “he just needs more help”. and is doubled team!!!!!!!!!!!

    Ice cream melts in Florida!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This defense was built by Licht with his draft pics and free agents. Licht is totally responsible for this debacle, he should have been fired a long time ago. We will never be any good with Licht at the helm.

First time me GM promoted into the position – learning on the job with us

Some stupid moves made and wasted several 2nd rd picks – heck 2 of 3 this year

ROJO and Strewart are not good – and much better players picked right after them in both cases

How many scouts have been fired for these wasted picks?

And great point on the pac12 – never take a defensive guy from that conference- they play no defense at all

He passes on Bama lineman to take Vea – again clearly a bad move just a half season in –

The dude needs a boss that knows how to draft properly

Wouldn’t go there. At all. PAC-12 isn’t the Big XII. Talk about a no-defense league.

The Steelers played aggressive on defense n offense. Everybody stepped up n did their job! The Steelers receivers were elite. Without a doubt, the Steelers were feeding off each other. They played smash mouth football on both sides of the ball. Case in point, the back up running back ran aggressively as he was a few feet from the end zone n dove with determination to get in…n indeed, he scored. Tip ur hat to the Steelers coaches. They were ready for that generic reverse the panthers ran successfully on us. They got in Cams face n bullied him n his deciples at ease. Unlike MEvans, the Steelers receivers don’t complain, push off, get ruffed up easily, or fall to the ground after anticipating a hit. They run fast, hard, n aggressive. They run back to the huddle with focus on the next play.I was soooo glad the Steelers set the benchmark for the Bucs on how to beat the stinking panthers.

It just seems like Licht wants to outsmart himself in the draft.
The misses in R1 – R2 have been team breakers. . . at least 5 decent players should have come out of it and we have a misplaced DT, a RB who cant seem to do anything well, A kicker no longer in the league, a smallish DE ( should probably be a 3-4LB) with a bad shoulder, VH3, MJ Stewart, ASJ now on another team. . . . thats a lot of draft capitol to whiff on

El Buco Realisto – Seriously.. the 34 D is magical and no one in the NFC South knows how to stop it? It has been around for decades it is definitely not new and there is no evidence to suggest that either alignment is better than the other long-term.

To act like our defensive woes would be solved by simply changing the alignment is completely ludicrous.

Joe remember the days when it was exciting to hear Berman from espn do the highlights for the Bucs because of a great win and seeing our team play with max effort ? It’s been a long time, but these owners need to finally be honest and tell the fans it’s going to be a 2 year process and stick with us !! ( no more false narrative crap ) Start with the uniforms, but a complete cleaning and makeover of his organization is a must and I think fans would respect them more. The only players I would keep is OJ, Ali, Godwin? I would pull a Gruden and trade Evans, Jensen, JPP, and others while their value is still high. Build through the draft and start with the Defense and O line and DRAFT TUA no matter what in 2020!!!! I’m over this product and most on here have jobs and most are performance based, yet we all would be fired if we didn’t perform? Well it’s obvious !!! David, GM, and others cashed in and along the way their play has been missing and let someone else pay Kwom 10 million to show up occasionally. Get the right people in to bring hungry and willing participants and build a team that people would be proud of again !!! Watching other football for the past couple years just shows how bad we are and it’s time the fans get what they paid for !!! It starts at QB and TUA has everything to build a great franchise !!! Bucs 2020 and let the Rebuild start now

Rather than “exciting,” Joe was often found Berman “nauseating.” Never liked his schtick and the couple of times crossing paths with him he was a total douchebag.

Joe was always a Nick and Hick guy — anyone remember those? 🙂

Amazing what an actual pass rush can do for a defense.

  12. Kgh4life Says:

It’s amazing how the Steelers defense started the year terribly and since then they have gotten better, that’s what good coaching and a good scheme does for a team.

  13. Locked In Says:

Sure wish we had a coach like Mike Tomlin… oh, wait…

  14. Warrenfb12 Says:

Steelers invest premium draft picks in their front seven and bring pressure on every down. The way the Bucs should play defense, but never have. Soft defenses sit in zones and rush four. Can’t play like that anymore.

  15. LakeLand Says:

The Steelers has better players than the Bucs
    And they are better coached

  16. AfrikaThaRapper Says:

It was amazing to see how the mighty Panthers got punked on national TV last night. I couldn’t believe that that same team that had the look got manhandled by a team that we almost beat. And they didn’t do anything amazing. Just fundamental football. Good players making good plays. Have faith my brothers and sisters. We are not that far. We just need the right leadership to lead us to the beloved promise land. Go ‘Bucs !!!

  17. Season Is Over Says:

The two differences are hope and effort. The Bucs have none of those things so the fans are relegated to watching paid Florida vacations with free agents laughing all the way to retirement. I have given up hope until the main pieces are gone. The Bucs as an organization are going to love the type of fans they created the past ten years. Haha.

The biggest change a 34 defense has over a 43 defense is the theoretical increase in special teams play due to the additional LBs that have to be active.

    Otherwise, you’re correct.

  19. Darin Says:

Its not rocket surgery Joe. I havnt a clue as to why this team has not tried more blitzes. I dont just mean the amount lf them. I cant really stomach watching it anymore. The worst defense in football’s history. Yet we are still watching this team sit back and watch with us. You must get the QB off his spot, period. Just cant believe so few combinations of looks n blitzes we sre seeing. Try em all every game! Or go down in history.

Wheres the coaching on this team? Thought it was a copy cat league? Other teams give us a blueprint how to stop other teams offenses. Yet DirkNDuff roll out the same mess every week. Copy someone else until ya figure it out dummies.

  20. LakeLand Says:

This wasn’t a total bad loss for the Panthers

    They escaped without injuries
Teams has injuries on Thursday Night football
The short week is a heath risk
The Steelers RB James Conner is in the ” Concussion Protocol”
Now they have 9 days to prepare for Detroit

  21. K_Bassuka Says:

What does that games says about the #1 offense in the NFL and the great Fitzpatrick? He could only score 21 points then the Panthers get destroyed by a real QB. Ugh this team!

  22. Aaron Says:

seems like teams that play the Bucs struggle the week after…like in College Football when you play the cream-puff school and win by 50 points then struggle for a little while in their next real game.
