Better Off Not Targeting DJax?

November 20th, 2018

What the numbers say.

If one is just to go by the numbers, the Bucs really shouldn’t use DeSean Jackson as a No. 1 target.

Joe’s good friend Gil Arcia looked at the stats and Jackson’s numbers just based on targets and catches are not good. And no, Bucs fans, that’s not an indictment of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. That’s with all Bucs quarterbacks.

Joe will let Arcia offer the goods.

Between Fitzpatrick and Winston, Jackson has been targeted 60 times this season. He has hauled in 37 receptions for 731 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions. If you’re curious on the splits, Fitzpatrick has thrown four interceptions and three touchdowns targeting Jackson 38 times while Winston has thrown three interceptions and one touchdown on 22 targets.

Those just are not good numbers.

Can DJax stretch the field? You bet, like few others can.

If DJax a reliable receiver? Doesn’t seem that way.

You know what else smells fishy? America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, seemed to have better success throwing to the likes of Cecil Shorts and CFL reject Donteea Dye than to DJax.

  1. Rojas Says:

Djax doesn’t fight for the ball. If the ball doesn’t fall right on his hands he basically quits on the deep ball, and jogs the rest of the way.

  2. ddougger@gmail.com Says:

Not a max effort kind of player – no use for that

  3. BuccaneerByBirth Says:

If we can lose 7/8 with him, we can lose 7/8 without him. None of those stats matter. We should’ve gotten something

  4. gp Says:

I wonder if Mahomes is going to be benched after three interceptions and two lost fumbles
    RE: Jackson…
The effort isn’t there, no more targets

  5. Lamarcus Says:

Never was a fit here from the beginning. Was going to make our team worse and oh I like djax. We was better off just with drafting Oj Howard and Godwin and used djx ticket on a rb or some lineman.

  6. ddougger@gmail.com Says:

Not a max effort kind of player – we have a few of those

  7. BrianBucs Says:

Some of those picks from both QB’s would not have happened if D – Jax had fought for the ball, even just a little bit.

  8. gp Says:

    BrianBucs

Are you saying that some of Jameis’ interceptions weren’t his fault?

  9. gp Says:

    HMMMMM

  10. Don Says:

Not a max effort kind of guy – and we have a few of those

  11. Waterboy Says:

    @GP

I think his 6 TD passes will save him for a few more weeks. Even in a bad game he still managed a 2 to 1 TD/INT ratio.

As far as DJax that has always been the issue with him. I have a friend who is a HUGE Washington fan and he told me last year when the Bucs signed Swaggy and Desean that Swaggy wasn’t worth the money and Desean will start complaining if he’s not getting the ball and he won’t fight for a ball. It turns out he was right on both.

  12. Dapostman Says:

Yawn………………been knowing this for 2 years.

  13. gp Says:

    Waterboy

He also has a decent coach, a decent defense, and a decent run game

    You’re probably right

  14. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Exactly Joe! Which is why I wanted DJax gone at the deadline and replaced with a practice squad player. DJax is toxic on and off the field. Another one of Jason Licht and Dirk Koetter’s brilliant ideas… Cut Koetter Fireeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Licht!

  15. Jameis Almighty! Says:

A lot of Jameis’ INT’s are not his fault. Some are unfortunate, unlucky tipped/juggled balls, bad routes, and last week DJax not fighting for the ball. Jameis has the worst luck with INTs. He will improve in that category as time goes and the odds and his luck changes. Also, not to mention, his New GM signs better OL and finds him a running back. Koetter has to go. His scheme doesn’t fit Winston. Licht needed to be booted out of town after not picking Derwin James and then drafting MJ Stewart… Licht DJax Fitz, and Koetter will be addition by subtraction. Fireeeeee Licht!

  16. Rod Munch Says:

What’s the numbers on Humphries? Jameis gets into most of his trouble when targeting Humphries – that’s my impression, I wonder if the stats back that up.

  17. Rod Munch Says:

Mahomes threw 3 INT’s tonight, 3!!!! He’s obviously a bust, they need to bench him, he’s awful. Sure his offense put up over 50 points, but it’s all on him for losing that game. 3 INTS! Sure he had 6 TDs but that’s a 2-1 TD/INT ratio!!! CUT HIM NOW!!!

  18. LakeLand Says:

Patrick Mahomes has 37 TD and 11 INT for the season

    And the Chiefs are 9-2

    The Bucs are 3-7

  19. LakeLand Says:

I meant Patrick Mahomes has 37 TD and 10 INT

  20. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs offense has 29 turnovers
    The most in the NFL

    23 INT
    The most in the NFL

If 7 INT are thrown when going to DJax
There’s still 16 more out there

The Bucs are a Well Polish Turnover Machine

  21. Mic Says:

D jacks probably complains in the huddle and interception where he ball is thrown in triple coverage happens like Fitzpatrick’s last pick

  22. Burton21 Says:

Djax can make a highlight play 3 or 4 times a season but he gives up on the other 20 he gives up. He’s a hack.

  23. Kansas95Buc Says:

Is Djax crippin with the blue flag lol?

  24. gp Says:

    LakeLand

I’d love to play “what ifs” with you
Like , what if we had a decent coach
    or
What if, we had a decent defense
    or
What if, we had a decent run game

    BUT
My Momma told me to never argue with an idiot
    soooo
    Good night!

  25. Season Is Over Says:

Yes, history will surely tell how DJax was the problem. Lmao!

  26. D1 Says:

    GP,

Statistical analysis of the NFL show a turnover margin of -2.3 will most likely result in a 12 loss season. This data includes defenses ranked from 1-32 . IOW a teams defensive ranking is less likely to be predictive of season wins and losses than turnover margin.

    Side note,

The #32 and #29 ranked defenses are the KC Chiefs and the LA Rams.

The #32 ranked team in turnover margin is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  27. Rod Munch Says:

LakeLand – All that matters is bad stuff, you can’t pick and choose and overlook 3 INTS!!!! That’s cut worthy to Bucs “fans” – he LOST the game, it’s all on him. They need to make an example out of him and cut him, then sign Mike Glennon who will throw the ball out of bounds on the final play of the game to avoid getting an INT on his stat sheet. That’s what winners do, they protect the ball, and Majobber has lost 2 of their last 3 road games. That’s unacceptable!!!!

  28. Armor1977 Says:

    koetter is done

  29. Gofortheface30 Says:

Holy F’ing he’ll GP. Do not ever in your life compare Winston and Mahomes again. Let’s even forget about the gross disparity in the stats between the two. Just look at the aesthetics. Just LOOK at Mahomes throw the ball. How effortless it is. Zero windup. I’ll say it again ZERO WINDUP, with an exceptional release. He actually throws a tight spiral. Those two don’t belong in the same gd universe, and yet some dense bucs fam like you wants to make the false equivalency of Jameis (lol) and Mahomes that was involved in the greatest Monday night game ever played between two wonderful teams.

  30. BucEmUp Says:

He is not a 10 million dollar receiver and shouldn’t be on the filed.every play. He doesn’t have the strength of fight to get physical and fight for catches. Godwin and Humphries should get all the snaps sprinkling in Jackson for specific plays. Koetter has lost me.guy can’t coach

  31. K_Bassuka Says:

Suckpatrick and his cheerleader DJax has to go along the amazing passing coordinator in Koetter and the one that made it all happen Mr Licht.

There was no reason whatsoever to have kept DJax when you have Godwin playing like a #1, and drafted Watson( Licht getting WRs as if we were the old Lions ).

Can’t wait for the next up and commer HC please no old school washed up ones.

  32. Not there yet Says:

Koetter won’t let you get away with talking about his man crush that way

  33. Geno Says:

Are GP and Rod Munch arguing that Winston and Mahomes are equal?

I am sure that many KC fans will get concerned with Mahomes if he has a bad turnover ratio going forward.

The turnover ratio is what concerns most fans and analysts about Jameis. Have you not been listening to other fans. Most (not all) of the Jameis non believers are that because of his history of turnovers not because of one game.

Most fans and analysts (joes the exception) don’t blame others for turnovers of Fitz or Jameis. It mostly their fault.

Jameis may be the best choice for a quarterback this year and next year but stop blaming D-jax, Koetter and others for his turnovers.

  34. Buc believer Says:

Can’t wait till this midget in both stature and mind leaves the Bucs and goes on to infect another team. The GM of that team better wear a hazmat suit at the signing.

  35. Bucsfanman Says:

Rod- I know the point you’re trying to make. However, look at the product on the field. Mahomes is a QB leading a 9-2 team and looks every bit the part. JW/Fitz are leading a 3-7 team and look EVERY bit the part.

  36. Stokes963 Says:

People criticized Randy Moss for taking plays off. Djax cant hold Moss’ jock strap. Why wasnt he traded before the deadline? People cry about GMC being a cancer. The cancer is wearing #11. Remove the lump.

  37. Conte Piscatelli Says:

I still say if Jameis is your quarterback, you shouldn’t dress Djax. If rather they start Godwin and full that roster spot with Bobo.

  38. Knack2Babbyyyy Says:

Deactivate DeQuit Jackson, and then cut him in the off season. At this point he’s just stealing reps from Godwin. #GodwinForWR2

  39. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Feel sorry for the Dude……Came to Tampa and his career took a turn for the worse!!!!!

  40. Nick Says:

Package up Dirk, DJax and McCoy get them all economy tickets out of town, and please take Brint Grimes and his wife.

  41. 813bucboi Says:

Folks wanted #weapons4winston just like they wanted #firelovie……turns out, the grass aint always greener on the other side…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  42. Patrick Says:

Jackson is a good receiver. Winston is a sorry excuse of an NFL quarterback. And his one good game of the season on Sunday hasn’t changed that. This fanbase always wants to run the wrong players out of town and keep the ones that don’t deserve to stay

  43. lokog Says:

f me Jackson I hope they cut this quitter

  44. Cgmaster27a Says:

Patrick, its clowns like you who make excuses for a half assed receiver like d djax. He gives zero effort and anyone with eyes can see it outside of you.

  45. VaTom Says:

Yeah, of course Jameis was better throwing those check downs to dudes a yard short of the marker vs a guy streaking uncovered for a TD. But the Joe’s LOVE Jameis and are blind to the record breaking turnover machine, well, you did admonish him to protect the ball. One more yr of Jameis is one more yr of poor decision making and heart breaking losses. The guy hasn’t sustained a season of good play in his time here. But somehow you believe it’ll change? Why? Better receivers?

  46. Rod Munch Says:

Mahomes Is a loser that cost his team the fame and has lost 2 of 3 on the road. He has like almost 10 turnovers last night. That’s unacceptable- it doesn’t matter about anything else- we only focus on the negative here. I’ve learned from the Winston haters and become one of them and now I apply that standard to all! Let’s go Mike Glennon – we need the 3 points a game you’d get us!

  47. OneBucPerson Says:

So we now have statistical evidence that DJax’s presence on the roster has hurt the team, nice.

  48. Dave Anglin Says:

I can’t wait till this season to be over, and that’s sad being a diehard Bucs fan. But this season is different, the reason I can’t wait for it to over is just so I can hear that the Bucs have cut this DIVA! He will not give effort, maybe that’s why teams trade or let him walk. After what he said after the Giants game about heart I was hoping someone in the Bucs would call him out but that’s not going to happe. Their are no LEADERS on the team or on the Coaching staff.
