Vinny Curry Offers Rallying Cry

October 8th, 2018

Said Bucs need to “come together.”

One thing impressed Joe while watching the Bucs live at Soldier Field last week. Actually two things.

No, really.

But both came after the game in the morgue that was the Bucs locker room. It was as quiet of an NFL locker room as Joe has ever heard. There were, however, two voices that were beyond PO’ed. Those voices were from two defensive linemen, Jason Pierre-Paul and Vinny Curry.

Oddly enough, those two guys know what it takes to win rings. And the slop that happened under the gray, cloudy skies of Chicago was unforgivable.

Curry claimed that ugly defensive performance is not what the Bucs are.

“We just have to come together,” Curry said. “We have to look at this tape as a group and understand that wasn’t us. We are better than that.”

The term “come together” got Joe’s attention. So he asked Curry if guys were freelancing. Curry took a deep breath, paused and well, didn’t deny Joe’s question.

“I will have to watch the tape,” Curry said. “Chicago came in with a gameplan — just have to watch the tape man. That wasn’t us; that wasn’t us.”

And while Joe has seen worse performances by the Bucs on the defensive line (haven’t we all?), Mitch Trubisky did have a fair amount of time to throw. Curry said it was a numbers game.

“If you watch, they had two people on each person,” Curry said. “It was seven-man protection. We were out there fighting through seven-man protection. They were keeping tight ends in.”

You can bet your bottom dollar the Dixie Chicks, who the Bucs face this coming weekend, will try to run carbon copies of what the Bears did on offense to the Bucs.

And the thing about Atlanta, they have far better offensive weapons than the Bears. And we all know how well the Bucs defense has played in domes the past two years.

I guess Chicago knew that the Bucs secondary can’t cover and that if they gave Hall of Fame quarterback Mitch Trubisky time he could pick them apart. Now we get to face Hall of Fame quarterback Matt Ryan

  2. THETRUTH Says:

bye week threw 4 td on bucs defense

    matt ryan 450 plus 4 td’s 23-28

  3. Alphabucfan Says:

I hope ppl aren’t writing off the the dirty birds just cuz they are 1-3 this is still a very good team. While I’m rooting for our Bucs I just don’t see us stomping them like some ppl are thinking. Go Bucs

  4. Uncle Remus Says:

LOL! Dixie Chicks! Please oh please let this be their nickname everywhere they travel.

Oh, and yes, the catfish are huuuuuuge.

  5. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Has Mike Smith been fired yet?

  6. Joel Says:

The 1-4 Falcons will score 50 on this awful defense. Chalk up another loss for McCoy, David and the worst defense in football.

  7. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Agree on that Joel

The Bucs are very often the “get right” game that every struggling team needs.

    ATL 54-13

  8. DRFEELGOOD Says:

The Bucs are 1-0 in domes THIS year. Falcons are literally wounded birds and Jameis has done great there. Time to bury them for the season and start a run. Go Bucs!!

  9. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Sorry Dr. Feel Good. I’ve seen this same “Ground Hog Day” movie over and over and over again over the last 42 years. Doesn’t end well each time with the lone exception, the 2002 Superbowl victory.

  10. Architek Says:

I thought this was fixed by our leaders last off season??

David and McCoy said no one will be able to freelance and not be held accountable???

Oh wait that’s been happening on defense for the past 9-10 years?!?!?!?!?

  11. Jim Says:

The Bucs lacked leadership and quit against the Bears. And it’s telling that the emerging leaders are from somewhere else. Will the Bucs come together in Atlanta?

  12. Not there yet Says:

Seven man protection hmmm if that is the reason the got destroyed then you can expect to see that until they stop it and now that we know Smitty doesn’t make adjustments it’s over because sane fans knew it was a mistake to giver a 35 yr old corner that kind of money but it never dawned on them to also go get another guy in case rookies aren’t ready for the challenge. If the issue is communication why are the rookies playing? You won’t even try other guys that have been here and that’s the problem they are saying the rookies are better than everyone else but look at the last 2 games and I don’t think so

  13. 1sparkybuc Says:

Jameis had a near perfect preseason and has played well against the fowlgoons with fewer weapons and worse OLs. He has played well against fowlgoon defenses that were far superior to what they have now. Our D will be healthier than they were in Chicago, and hopefully our rookies learned something and can build on it. We have holes, but we also have some studs on both sides of the ball. I have rooted for every single team, no matter how bad they have been. I am not even close to convinced that this is the worst defense we have ever had. I am convinced that Jameis is the best QB we have ever had, and this receiving corps is by far the most talented in franchise history. Koetter and Licht are largely responsible for putting this together. We need to upgrade our DC and the DB coaches, but firing everybody would be a mistake. Successful franchises don’t change their leadership every two or three years. These guys can outscore a lot of teams. We just need a D that can slow them down. GO BUCS

  14. 813bucboi Says:

so smitty never adjusted….what else is new….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  15. LakeLand Says:

The Bears beat a winless Arizona team 16-14, with 3 FGs, touchdown.

Then they beat a Bucs team 48-10, a week later
    38 points at halftime
I don’t have any faith in the Bucs offense or defense

  16. Conte Piscatelli Says:

So the two new guys on the defense were upset, that makes sense. The rest of the guys that have been here have grown numb to that kind of embarrassment, and rookies just don’t know any better yet. It’s ok though give them a couple weeks and they will succumb to the buccaneer way.

  17. Defense Rules Says:

Joe, how come no one has asked the most obvious question? Several have said now that Chicago was using a 7-man protect scheme … counting the QB, that’s 8 men accounted for, thus 3 men out (1 RB & 2 WRs presumably since the TEs were in blocking).

Bucs were rushing 4 Dlinemen … LBs weren’t blitzing hardly at all. So that means that Bucs had 7 men (LBs, CBs, Safeties) to cover 3 men. Duh! I can understand why the DLinemen couldn’t get through the 7-man protection, but can’t understand why 7 Bucs couldn’t cover 3 Bears. This isn’t rocket science … 2 Bucs per receiver plus a Safety deep. Again, duh!

  18. Defense Rules Says:

Oops, have one more question Joe. What is going on with Beau Allen? Bucs desperately need his big body in the middle. Will he be back for Atlanta game?

Read somewhere that Vea was playing some 3-technique against the Bears. Sounded kinda bizarre, but now in a way it makes sense. When Allen returns, then GMC-Vea-Allen will be a pretty beefy 3-man rotation at DT. Allen I think is strictly a nose tackle, so in order to be able to set the rotation, Vea would be the likely choice to spell GMC as the 3-technique.

  19. Onetrickpony Says:

    Same old
    Same old
That wasnt us, we are better than that,on and on etc.
Yes it was, you, I saw you, so take your excuses and stick them.
Excuses get old, real old, so hush up and show me,until than no excuses.

  20. Bucsfanman Says:

Defense Rules- I brought that same subject up a week ago. A seven man front means that only three players are in routes. If you looked at our defense, you would’ve thought the exact opposite. Those receivers were WIDE open all game. What the heck?!

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

I got us beating ATL adter the bye. But them Browns are a different story. These Cleveland Browns are actually ballin. Our Defense will play inspired ball. But for how long? Koetter and Snitty had better hope its 8 wins worth. Or they will be…packing bags.

  22. TOM Says:

Atlanta’s defense isn’t much better than the Bucs. Atl. wins 42-38

  23. Espo Says:

Funny to me it looked like Curry kept crashing inside instead of containing his gap. I guess you’re right about freelancing.

  24. SOEbuc Says:

    Joel

“Chalk up another loss for McCoy, David and the worst defense in football.”

LVD should not be looked down upon. He could still be very good in a good defense and is our best LB we have right now, if that’s saying anything at all. He had 5 FF last year and was the MVP of that retched defense. GMC has been EXTREMELY over rated trash for years but I guarantee if David went to another team, he’s gonna join the Michael Bennett/Donald Penn club.

  25. GhostofSchiano Says:

How many losses until curry and jpp get fed up and start mailing it in?

  26. Bucwatcher Says:

Here’s when the wheels comes off on this team…

WHEN, Jackson ,Evan’s, Godwin or any other WR/TE goes DEEP and they’re wide OPEN…

And the SECOND leading QB in turnovers…over throws them or under throws them for INTs.

Winston CAN NOT throw deep. Accurately.

He has a hard time making right decisions ON and OFF the field.

And I’m a fan of Winston.
