Still Here

October 31st, 2018

The Bucs roster is intact

The trade deadline came and went yesterday and the Buccaneers did a whole lot of nothing.

Despite most Bucs fans being eager to trade Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback remains on general manager Jason Licht’s handpicked roster.

DeSean Jackson, who apparently asked to be traded last week, also stays. On that front, Licht kept his word from his Sunday interview on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

Joe was really hoping/aching for cornerback help, just as Joe was in August and September. Nickel cornerback M.J. Stewart has struggled and now he has a new foot injury. Instead of dealing, the Bucs promoted Javien Elliott from the practice squad yesterday.

For Jason Licht not to do anything that seems unusual. Maybe the Glazer boys have already put the word out not to do anything because the writing is on the wall for Dirk and Jason

  2. BucsBandit Says:

    AMERICA’S BACKUP QUARTERBACK.

    * Fixed it for you.

  3. Trench War Says:

So everybody’s happy as long as the beard is the captain. We kept are maligned QB and eased DJax’s mind. I personally can’t blame DJax though as his window has begun to close on building his H.O.F. resume. Call him selfish but at least he has a legitimate goal, and JW just hasn’t turned out to be his reliable benefactor. DJax feels that Fitz will be, and to DJax’s credit he’s right. His stat sheet jumps off the chart with Fitz behind center.

  4. LakeLand Says:

I’m not a Jameis Winston fan

But the Bucs will be DUMB to trade him
They don’t have the offense in place to fit his strengths
    He’s not a gunslinger

It’s dumb when Mike Evans and DJax
Has 19 more targets than ALL of the Rb and TE combined

  5. Calibuc Says:

Why stand pat? If you think you are a contender, you trade picks for players because you are still 4th in the division and need to make up ground. If you think you are a pretender you dump veterans for picks. LVD, GMC, jackson, grimes should have all been on the block. The only way you stay put is if you are clicking and look elite or you could care less about ac5ually winning as an organization.

  6. LakeLand Says:

Go back to Jameis rookie season

Bucs catch ratio in 2015 (Jameis rookie season)

    Mike Evans -50%
    Vincent Jackson-54%
    Dontea Dye-37%
    Louis Murphy- 55 %
    Russell Shepard-33%
    Adam Humphries-67.5

    Doug Martin-75%
    Charles Sims-73%

    Cam Brate- 77%
    Luke Stocker- 69%
    Brandon Meyers-70%
    ASJ-54%

It should have been obvious to them
That Winston strength is throwing to his RB, TE, Slot WR

But the Bucs calls the opposite
Most of his passes go to his WR downfield

  7. Dre Says:

Guys this team can win with who they have … one way to win is to eliminate turnovers … and if we can somehow not turn it over and get a couple turnovers we can be a very good team … let’s see what happens … we have a stretch of games Washington giants and niners after Carolina … if we can find a way to beat Carolina which this team is capable of we can get a winning streak going and build our confidence … the wild cards are wide open

  8. LakeLand Says:

Washington is harder to beat than Carolina

  9. FortMyersDave Says:

By not doing anything concerning the defense the Glazers indicate that they are not willing to sacrifice any draft picks to try and save this season. They did not just dump off players in a fire sale like the tanking Giants either so I agree with Lakeland in that it would be idiotic to dump players for pucks that likely would not pan out anyhow. Given Licht’s track record with drafting and FA signings perhaps standing pat was the best thing to do instead of making things worse.

  10. BucsBandit Says:

DRE – 100% right. A wildcard spot is within easy reach if we can put a few wins together, and we have an easy schedule coming up.

They need to fully commit to benching Winston for the rest of the season. Go “all in” with Fitz.

    IN FITZ WE TRUST!

    GOODBYE, JAMEIS, AMERICA’S BACKUP QUARTERBACK.

  11. FortMyersDave Says:

I disagree Lakeland. Washington not a good road team unless you are comparing the 2 home games where Carolina might be easier to beat but I think DC at home an easier win than at Carolina though very likely Bucs lose both and go 3-6 into the games vs the tanking Giants and Niners.

  12. LakeLand Says:

    Washington has a top defense
    A 3-4 defense
    3-4 defenses gives Firz fits
    He manhandle a 4-3 defense

  13. LakeLand Says:

    **Fitz**

  14. BigMacAttack Says:

Maybe Licht got the memo that said “The New GM Will Handle All Personnel Matters”

  16. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Glazer boys told Licht you had 4 years to build, get it done with your guys. You’re not wasting future draft capital. I feel like that is fair to speculate. I mean with us being thin at linebacker and safety due to injury and inexperience, and good cheap options on the market, wtf else could this mean? Don’t even get me started on the Big Money DLine, besides JPP who is doing anything besides Nassibs 1 game. Could we not find some help via trade?

No this regime is standing on its last leg, that is the only explanation to do nothing today and to bench your #1 pick in a pivotal season. This team wreaks of desperation and lack of support of ownership.

I’ve always fully supported Licht and thought he was a great drafter but history tells me I am wrong and I can admit it. Jameis however I’m still undecided.
Did he deserved to be pulled? Hell yes.
Should he sit a game? Sure
If we lose should he come back? Hell to the yes.
But this desperate regime will destroy us for the future of this team cannot get wins and earn back the owners trust.
So who is some good G.M. and coach candidates?

  17. Ray Rice Says:

Something tells me this fool is about to LICHT $HIIIT up again.

    Worst defense in football: Check
    Best offense in football: Check

LOL! That’s literally how stupid these people are.

  21. Bigbucfan90 Says:

@rod munch lol couldn’t have said it better my self

  22. Patrick Says:

Fitz is the reason we have the best offense, Rod. Or are you that delusional to think that he has nothing to do with our offense being ranked so high? Winston’s garbage time yards mean nothing if you’re throwing at minimum 2 interceptions per game and playing reckless. Go ahead, be blind.

  23. Jean Lafitte Says:

    What’s easier?
Try to build a perfect defense overnight?
Or bench the biggest reason why are defense has been on the field more than our offense?

  24. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Watch and observe…

Watch Fritz under Klueless playcalling(not Monken) vs Carolina

Fritz was in shotgun and freelancing under prevent defense of the Bengals

Watch Fritz trying to move the ball under Klueless…

Look at the 3 games last year Fritz played under Klueless”

    Kobe Faker

  25. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “Joe was really hoping/aching for cornerback help, just as Joe was in August and September. Nickel cornerback M.J. Stewart has struggled and now he has a new foot injury. Instead of dealing, the Bucs promoted Javien Elliott from the practice squad yesterday.”

Joe you hit the nail right on the head … and you did it WITHOUT mentioning the one who avoided taking responsibility for Bucs continual non-action: Jason Licht. Kudos. Our Bucs are a multi-billion dollar BUSINESS being run by AMATEURS. And that starts with the Glazer Boyz, goes down through Licht all the way to this entire coaching staff.

Everyone’s having the WRONG CONVERSATION … just like they did with Scapegoat Smitty. Everyone pointed fingers at Mike Smith as being THE CAUSE of our crappy defense, when reality showed that our defense is very poorly constructed. Smitty deserved PLENTY of blame to be sure, but the real problem is that this defense sucks personnel-wise. Oh yes, we’ve got SOME talent … just not nearly enough of it. MJ Stewart is a great example of that; he MAY have talent, but he’s got no business starting at this point. Our Secondary overall is a joke, and THAT falls on Jason Licht, not on the defensive coaches.

We’re also having the WRONG CONVERSATION about Jameis IMO. He MAY become a decent starting QB in this league (and decent QB = winning QB in my world) but we’ll probably never know that here. I’m not a Jameis-hater, nor am I a big Jameis-supporter, but IMO he’s been set up to be yet another scapegoat (of course, he helped that along quite a bit all by himself). A sorry-ass team drafts a 20-year-old to be their messiah … what could possibly go wrong? Jameis is imploding right now (and has been for awhile I’d speculate) and this coaching staff doesn’t have a clue how to deal with him or how to ‘fix him’.

Bucs aren’t going anyplace until we clean house. Licht needs to go … his TEAM-BUILDING prowess really sucks. Koetter needs to go … he MIGHT be a decent OC, but he sure as heck isn’t a good HC. And the Glazer Boyz need to go to. Oops, sorry-ass ownership gets to stay until THEY decent to cash in. My bad.

  26. Stravenite Says:

Let’s not get excited that our backup QB (JW) is still here, one reason !

    No-one else is interested Value = 0

Who wants a 4 year turnover machine that has not progressed in any aspect of the game

  27. Anonymous Says:

If your excited about Jameis backing up Fitz this year your an ASSBANDIT!!!

  28. adam from ny Says:

the moment i heard ha ha clinton meat-stick got traded i started bouncing off the ceiling…then i heard jenna bitching about it on the radio a half hour later…she said he literally would love to be in tampa with his mom in orlando…we should have snatched that dude and drove him to tampa in a ufo

  29. Pete I Says:

“and the Buccaneers did a whole lot of nothing.” Pretty much sums up the entire history of the Bucs and certainly the last 10 years.

  30. Pete I Says:

Even the undefeated Rams saw fit to try to improve: the Rams are acquiring former No. 3 overall pick Dante Fowler Jr. from the Jaguars. The Rams gave their 2019 third-round pick and a 2020 fifth-rounder in exchange.

  31. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It’s hard for me to understand why we didn’t pick up a CB……I questioned the MJ Stewart pick before Carlton Davis and was pounded with “Licht knows what he is doing” posts.
Analysts at the time labeled him a poor pick. It’s still early yet so we will see if he develops…..but you can’t teach speed.
We sorely miss VH3 in our secondary. Teams are “lichting” us up, Jason.

  32. Bird Says:

    Butt munch

Fitz jersey went to HOF for how he started season. Remember that. Of course not. Fitz has one of the highest qbr rating in the nfl. Look it up. You appear to have lowest IQ on this site. Always with an excuse.

Fitz is the main reason for the number 1 offense. Jameis played three garbage defenses and should have shined and honestly lost all 3. The Browns beat themselves

Am I a messiah fitz worshipper. Hell no.

But I feel the bucs have a better chance to win when he is at center.
And please take that your hands off that mans junk. I mean you really are getting in there

  33. HeavyE Says:

If this guy is so great, why so many teams, has he played on? Fan Base is a joke and blinded!!! LMAO!!!

  34. jjbucfan Says:

Bird- Fly away- Jameis has gear in Canton as well for the way he started his career. BFD- It isn’t for a career of success. Fitz went on a 2-3 game run in games 1-2-3 of a season that was absolutely incredible. Then he Sh*t the bed against Pittsburgh and Diarrhea’d all over himself against Chicago costing us both games. Jameis single handedly loses 1 game and you want to cut him. Personally attacking other posters because they disagree with you shows your age and the era you have grown up in. Fly away young man and bring facts to the table not your beliefs.

  35. Bob in Valrico Says:

At this point Jameis play is making both him and his coaches look bad. Overall Fitz has shown the potential of this offense and has responded to coaching and
    the gameplan.
Jameis meltdown is dragging both the team and the coaching staff down. They just
can’t count on him to lead this team. When you eliminate most of the quick strikes and go to a more methodical offense it gives both Jameis and other players more opportunities to make mistakes.
This is really a failure on Jason Licht’s part. He failed to recognize the flaws still plagueing Jameis’s game. He also thought he had a quarterback that could make
all the throws. But he is inconsistent on the deepball. He may get away with the high and hard pass to Evans but he has to bring the ball down to all receivers including Evans.
We have seen what this offense can be, we need to put the QB that can run it
in place. If Fitz does falter ,then try Ryan Griffin. For his own good put Jameis
on a hiatus to get his head right and his game together.

  36. cw_buc_crazy Says:

Sad day today, with JW still a bucs after trade deadline, we missed the opportunity to focus on the team and the future steps this organization need to take to get better, instead we are going to talk, speculate, fantasize, waist time with whom we should put JW, Fitz or Griffin……
Keeping Light or/and Koetter has nothing to do with getting rid of JW. As long as he is here, is going to be truble in and out the field. Sad!

  37. Not there yet Says:

Someone actually said Winston is the reason the defense can’t get off the field after only playing 3 games, literally some of the dumbest football fans on the planet come here To give unwanted opinions. We lost one game with Winston and 3 with Fitz but ok lol so this defense wasn’t on pace to be the worst in nfl history. Joe those are the kind of stupid comments you should filter

  38. 813bucboi Says:

dirk and licht are dead men walking……glazers rather have the new HC and GM wheel and deal players and picks…..

time for licht and dirk to start looking for fishing spots….

PLEASE go ahead. We were looking forward to it.

  40. Cobraboy Says:

“America’s Perpetual Turnover Machine” is a far more accurate moniker.

  41. Wesley Says:

Great job Jason Licht this team is perfect and doesn’t need any help.

  42. TOM Says:

Most of the trades made yesterday I would have made except for WR. The problem is the Glazers don’t care & they know nothing about football. Licht’s days are numbered so he could care less. I do believe Koetter wants to win but his hands are tied. After a couple of games the Glazers will tell Koetter to start Winston again. This crappy organization never changes its the same crap year after year.

  43. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Not there yet

you seriously are a moron. If you really don’t think JW’s 10 turnovers in 3 games doesn’t put more undo pressure on an already struggling defense your comments should be filtered. Try not to be so sanctimonious.

I’m sorry, the best numbers the offense has put up this season was when the OTHER guy was playing QB, not turning it over every other series and taking stupid sacks while in scoring position.

How many wins does JW have this year?

  46. Reach87 Says:

Unlike many I think we can make some noise THIS YEAR. For me I can see our offense putting up good points, our defense playing good enough to win, and a bit of luck getting us a game. I have faith and hope that we can do that. I think when you draw lines like “we’ll never be good as long as (you name your favorite player to hate) is on the team, you’re not a fan of the team itself. Also, I think if you believe that you have zero understanding of how much a team game the NFL is. We upgraded our players, changed our DC, and have seen very clearly how explosive our offense can (CAN) be. We need to improve ST, build consistent execution across the board (week to week) and we’ll make some noise. All doable. Queue the “non-fans”…. Go Bucs!
