NFC South Is The Big XII

October 30th, 2018

Green light in red zone.

The Big XII conference in college football has been known for some time as a no-defense league.

Now, it’s pretty clear the NFC South has gone full-blown Big XII. Of course, it helps to have top-shelf quarterbacks like Drew Brees, Matty Ice, Cam Newton and Jameis Winston. But, like the Big XII, the NFC South has turned into a garbage defense division.

And take a wild guess which team is @ss-worst? You guessed it, your beloved Bucs.

Per the good people at NFL Films by way of BSPN’s NFL Matchup, no team in the NFL as an ole defense in the red zone quite like the Bucs.

So far this year when opponents enter the red zone against the Bucs, they are scoring touchdowns at an alarming 88 percent rate. Alarming, disturbing, you pick the word.

But you know what is galling? If the Bucs had just an OK defense, just an average defense, this team would be 6-1 and America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, would still be starting.

Now, the team is on the cusp of an implosion the likes of which we haven’t seen in a few years.

    88% LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I laugh because I can’t cry.

MyGOD I had no idea that it was THAT fricking bad.
    Scary.

  2. DB55 Says:

Idk of any other 4th yr QB who needs to score at least 40 points to win a game.

  3. LakeLand Says:

Carolina has been decent on defense……..as usual

    The Saints has been better

The Falcons have lost 5 starters on defense

The Yucs are the Yucs…..no surprise here

  4. TOM Says:

Boy, was I sorry to read that. I just didn’t know it was that bad. They really need to shake this team up. Start cleaning house beginning at the top & start getting rid of those ridiculous over paid players with those ridiculous salaries. Not winning with them, why keep them. And yes that includes Winston.

  5. LakeLand Says:

Carolina is 8th in Total defense
    And allowing 21.7 PPG
    They can live with that

  6. zzbucs Says:

Lakeland is there any positive thing to say??? Jeeeeeesssss your posts are so negative dude……..The only Yuc here is you !!!!

  7. Mike Johnson Says:

Trust me, Fitz is gonna see pressure like He’s never seen this Sunday against the Pantheres. Carolina is rollin guys. Gonna take a little more than Fitzmagic to pull this one off.

  8. VaTom Says:

Saying Winston would be starting is closing your biased minds to the fact he has thrown interceptions out at a record pace. Please do yourself a favor and look at the INTERCEPTIONS! If you want to know why Winston isn’t starting you may wish to apply the same twisted logic by projecting how many he’d have thrown by now if he wasn’t so LUCKY to have been suspended for three games.

Fitzpatrick isn’t the future. And he’ll likely break our hearts and sink this team in ’18. But the WINSTON the JOES support is just as detrimental. Emphasis on “mental”.

  9. LakeLand Says:

    Ok zzyucs

  10. Joe Blahak Says:

If “ifs and buts” were candy and nuts, we’d all have a merry christmas…The defense sucks, WinSTUNNED sucks. How you get 6-1 out this dreamland scenario is beyond me…

  11. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

The point was that if we had even an average defense, we would probably be 6-1. Unfortunately we do not.

  12. theodore Says:

It’s hard overcoming the loss of Chris Conte.

  13. JoebucsFlan Says:

when can we stop calling him america’s quarterback?

  14. LakeLand Says:

The defenses has to keep teams out of the Red Zone
They can allow a high percentage scoring rate
As long as they limited the trips to the Red Zone

    Example

A lot of teams are ranked higher than the Carolina Panthers (30 to be exact)

But the Panthers are ranked 11th in defensive scoring
    Ahead of 21 teams

  15. Season Is Over Says:

Yes, just imagine if Licht had made the correct decisions. 90% is just crazy.

  16. BucsLife Says:

VaTom….if we had leads, we wouldn’t be throwing as much, meaning fewer chances for picks. I still think JW is the qb going forward…

  17. LakeLand Says:

The Panthers do a good job of keeping teams out of the Red Zone

  18. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

No LakeLand, the Panthers are 2nd worst in that category, only to us. They are giving up a 77% scoring rate in the Red Zone.

  19. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs defense are different from the Panthers
They allow a high percentage rate of teams scoring in the Red Zone

And they allow a lot of trips to the Red Zone
That’s why they are “DEAD LAST” in both, Red Zone percentage and scoring

    88% scoring rate
    33.3 PPG allowed

  20. LakeLand Says:

I said the Panthers are the second worst

A lot of teams are ranked higher than the Carolina Panthers (30 to be exact)

30 teams ahead of them in percentage…..lower percentages

  21. LakeLand Says:

Lowest percentages are the better percentages

  22. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

I gotcha now man, they just don’t let teams actually get TO the Red Zone as often as us. That is the difference. — I see what you meant on that.

  23. LakeLand Says:

    Exactly Tampa Bay Demon

  24. Lionel Says:

That’s not fair to say when 10 interceptions in. 3 games.. let’s see how many red zone opportunities these teams had against us..and before that we had mike smith..I feel this is a turn around game for Tampa..keep your illogical misconceptions of my bucs away…

  25. 813bucboi Says:

kris Richard for HC in 2018!!!!!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  26. Lamarcus Says:

    813

    No on Kris Richards

  27. Anonymous Says:

Soooo the question is. . . . if Fitz turns tragic. . . who comes in??
If JW is inactive for this game it will be a sure sign they have given up on him

  28. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

Bottom 5 defenses this year include:

    28. New England 6-2
    29. Miami 4-4
    31. Kansas City 7-1
    32. Cincinnati 5-3

None of which have the number of offensive tools we have, other than a competent QB who doesnt turn the ball over. Tell me more about how we cant win with a below average defense…

  29. AfrikaThaRapper Says:

@Va Tom You are 100% correct, my man.

  30. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

Interestingly, at least three of the bottom five from the chart above will likely make the playoffs. Of the top five, likely one.

  31. 813bucboi Says:

    lamarcus

    why?

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  32. 813bucboi Says:

kris Richard has played the game at a high level….developed r.sherman, b.maxwell, b.browner, chancellor and earl Thomas…..has been part of a championship team…..went from DB coach to d. coordinator with dallas…..rod still has the official title but Richard calls the plays….he’s help transform dallas defense into a respectable group and most importantly, developed their young DB’s something we need desperately…..

plus you need a young innovative defensive minded coach to stop the shanahans, mcvays and nagys of the world……

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  33. orlbucfan Says:

Koetter just needs to gameplan correctly for his offense. The rest will take care of itself.

  34. Buccfan37 Says:

Be a contender Bucs, beat Carolina! I’m trying to take myself seriously here now.

  35. FortMyersDave Says:

I think the Bucs have to come out fast and furious like they did in New Orleans but history tells us that falling behind by 14 or 21 is far more likely with the horrid D. Perhaps Fitz will have a magic day and Carolina gets a bit vocky and flat this week and makes a few mistakes to keep it close.

I believe zztops wants to know why Lakeland posts here. He does not seem to like the Bucs but usually has positive things to say about their opponents and seems happier when the Bucs lose almost as if he has a vested interest in Bucs losing 10 a season…. The dude makes some valid points and some reaches as well but its America and we have a right to state our opinions and if you want to be labeled as the eternal pessimist to counter balance what used to be optimism well by all means go for it!
