Big Day But Still Bad

October 23rd, 2018

What a steal.

The Bucs had a helluva pass rush on Sunday, but still the team stinks getting after the quarterback.

The Bucs racked up five sacks. It was the most sacks the Bucs had in a game since they terrorized Stuart McClown and the Jets last year at the Den of Depression.

And the Bucs have a defensive end who is on pace for 16 sacks. That still weirds Joe out typing that.

Still, that kind of production isn’t good enough. Per BSPN’s NFL Matchup, the Bucs are one of the worst teams at getting pressure on quarterbacks. Only the Raiders and Bengals are more allergic to getting pressure. The Bucs pressure QBs on 23.5 percent of dropbacks.

Joe suspects with more games like the win over the Browns, that percentage should climb.

    New Scheme = More results.

We just better not let this Kwon injury follow us to the Bungle Jungle like it did in the 2nd half of last weeks game. If it does, we’re gonna be in trouble.

  2. DB55 Says:

What do the first two teams on this list have in common? They both have 100mil dollars 3techs. Smh. When will people learn? I scream, You scream, We all scream MCICECREAM

  3. Waterboy Says:

Now Licht need to go steal Patrick Peterson.

  4. LakeLand Says:

The Browns ROOKIE QB had a passing rate of 104.4

There’s nothing to brag about here

  6. LakeLand Says:

    Last week against the Chargers

Baker Mayfield had a passing rate of 52.6
This is one of the reasons
I’m not sold on this defense

  7. El_Buc941 Says:

The reason we were able to get 5 sacs is because we played our rookie corners press man this causing the QB to hold the ball longer than usual. Carlton Davis balled out and the DLine got pressure WITHOUT McCoy…..mhmm…who else here thinks we should trade McCoy for Leveon Bell other than me?

  8. 813bucboi Says:

screw what the coaches are saying about spence….put him in!!!!!….cant be any worse…..

  9. 813bucboi Says:

trade GMC to the raiders for keleche osemele….that’ll help the run game and the passing game….bell wouldn’t do sh!t behind this line….plus gruden loves old players…..

or trade a 5th to the JAGS for dante fowler……

  10. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @813

In pewterreport’s write up they had a few plays selected and the only one I saw with 57 in there was one in which he got pressure that was part of a Nassib sack.

    @Lakeland

Knowing you didn’t watch the game it’s hard to have much of a debate. I don’t think any of us thought the D was elite or anything. But what I saw was a MUCH more competitive unit that wasn’t giving up easy big completions all day as they were the prior games.

We got to a 2-3 record with the WORST defense in the NFL. If our D can be sub par / closer to Avg it’ll be huge. Our offense wasn’t clicking on all cylinders a all and we still won just because our D was actually more average than horrifically bad. If the offense can click and the D just play mediocre-ish it’s a formula to win a lot of games.

I’d rather take giving up a 104 rating than the likely perfect 150+ ratings we gave up to guys like Trubisky, Ryan, and others. QBs were averaging completion % in the upper 70s against us lol

  11. Darin Says:

    Lakeland.
Qb rating of 104 when theyve averaged 130 in the first 5 games. Thats improvement. They dont take into account the 5 sacks either. He prob had a qb rating near 0 at halftime. Nobodys sold on this defense but it had a hell of a better chance now. The play caller does not like predictability. What a concept.

  12. LakeLand Says:

    Lord C

    Yeah that’s true
The 104.4 is a major improvement

  13. gilhealy Says:

Looks like the Bengals are right there with the Bucs. Would be nice if that trend continues for them Sunday.

  14. El_Buc941 Says:

@813bucboi Leveon Bell would do much more than Peyton Barber is doing and he would help the pass game because the defense would be hesitant of letting someone like Bell run all over them. Have you noticed when Barber runs the ball he tries to be shifty and when RoJo runs it he hits the first hole he sees and takes off? Leveon Bell is the combination of both,he’s shifty and can break tackles and make players miss and when he hits an opening he takes off with authority.

  15. Kalind Says:

Hargreaves and a second round pick should be enough for Peterson.

I have a feeling duff will get good use out of him…..I just cant believe how far he’s fallen since having 5.5sacks as a rookie…..

  17. LakeLand Says:

Noah Spence was a ‘reach’, everyone was saying the Bucs needed a DE
Michael Thomas should have been the pick

VH3 was a ‘reach’, everyone was saying how much the Bucs needed a CB
Laremy Tunsil should have been the pick

Teams shouldn’t reach for a player, based on need

  18. 813bucboi Says:

    941

no doubt bell is a better RB….but he wont be effective if there’s 2 dlinemen in the backfield everytime he gets the ball….and folks harp on Winston and his TO’s but some are due to pressure right up the middle….we secure the oline, then everything else falls in place….

I think if we’re patient, we could get bell next year when he’s fresh and motivated….he’s only looking to get paid and stay healthy this year….

last thing we need is a elite RB with a lousy oline that will get him and Winston killed….

  19. lambchop Says:

    Bucs sign MLB Kevin Minter.

  20. 813bucboi Says:

    Lakeland

I don’t think they were reaches….just haven’t been coached up and are playing in a scheme that doesn’t suit them…..

when we drafted spence, the info coming out of OBP was that we were going to run/show some 34….that never happened….he’s playing out of position….

when we drafted VHG, he was considered the best pure cover CB that excelled at man press…..smitty forced him to play off…..

its simple….put players in position to be successful and play to their strengths and watch them develop into elite players…..

  21. LakeLand Says:

**Noah Spence was a reach for a 4-3 defensive team**

**If a 3-4 defensive team drafted him, it would make sense**

  22. i like gunslingers Says:

joe in your opinion, i mean i’m asking ya’ll, would it not make sense for jason to go after peterson i mean damn we need him don’t we?if they honestly think there still in the hunt and have a shot why not go get him? please one of ya’ll joe’s enlighten me, you guys know a hell of alot better than i do

  23. LakeLand Says:

I think Kevin Minter was out of the league last season

  24. LakeLand Says:

He played 9 games with the Jets last season

  25. LakeLand Says:

**I meant 9 games with the Bengals**

  26. El_Buc941 Says:

@813bucboi if there is 2 dlinemen in the back field then you kick bell out to the side and dump it off to him or you make them pay and throw it down field. This ain’t rocket science. Ever heard of a pass option play? Ever heard of Jameis having runs of 10+ yards? Cause other teams have and when you play a QB like Winston you play on your heels because this offense is unpredictable and if you add a RB like Bell it opens up your playbook in so many ways.

  27. BucEmUp Says:

One player that has jumped.oit to.me is Nassib….I.may have spelled that wrong. Think we got him after he left Cleveland. Dude has jimped.off.the screen the last two games with more.opportunity..He needs.to.be on the field more

  28. Ray Rice Says:

Where are all the MF’s at that cried wolf whenever I blasted Geraldine McBooty for licking BALLLLZ? Their argument was that he never had help. What’s your excuse now? Double digit sack guy and he still softer than Charmin.

  29. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Lakeland great comparison, the bucs defense is still weak, a couple good parts but overall bad and again licht had chance to build a solid defense but is incompetent as a GM, kevin minter was a stud at LSU but must be reason he isnt on a team

  30. D1 Says:

    Lakeland, Buc boi,

How do you evaluate players transitioning from college to pro’s if they’ve never played the position that you project him to play? Spence , in you guys opinion, is better suited as a LB , what is the basis for your opinion?

Side note, did either of you believe the team should select Marcus Davenport in the draft?

  31. BucEmUp Says:

I saw our corners actually making physical contact so the wide receivers at the line of scrimmage and just like that…..5 sacks.

Wow, wh.woukda ever thought that tighter coverage would give the qb less time to avoid a sack. Definelty not Mike Smith that’s for true

  32. DB55 Says:

    Bucs sign MLB Kevin Minter
    ——–
This guy is better than anyone we got at mlb. He might actually be a real mlb go figure.

  33. LakeLand Says:

    DI

I didn’t think they should have drafted Marcus Davenport
I thought they should have drafted Derwin James

  34. LakeLand Says:

    DI

    It wasn’t just me

Most of the draft experts had him as a 3-4 OLB

  35. William Walls Says:

And the Raiders are the worst. Man, what Gruden wouldn’t give to get his hands on a premier edge rusher, I bet.

    Oh, wait…

  36. ATrain Says:

    Question

Is it a coincidence that the beat two games for the Offense this year where when Jamies was not there

The best Defensive game was with GMC in the bench

    Funny

Our Two Elite Players positively affect the game when they aren’t in the game

  37. Lamarcus Says:

    ^^^^

Atrain if that’s the case the players play good during certain circumstances than we have a bunch of unprofessional NFL players that has no business playing “professional” sports or anything professional.

If my wrs are bitching because they can’t play with a Qb then bench you go. And the defense steps up because GMC is not there than bench u go and I will find someone who will

  38. BuccaneEric75 Says:

What happened to the Bears having a good pass rush? They’re just a tad better than us. Hmmmm….

  39. Brad Isherwood Says:

    Hey!

We won at the house!….we got Swagg!

Big change (Defence Co)……We answer with Swagger.
Bengals face a team breaking out, ….and with big guns

We got Aces ….and Aces to play!

Sorry Cincinnati… if we kick the cat….. outta the house : )

  40. JimmyT Says:

    Hey William Walls
News flash, Noah Spence ISNT EVEN ACTIVE for most games & u r gonna pawn him off to Gruden? What for a 7th round pick? Just because Spence was drafted by this inept personnel depart doesn’t mean he is worth it. We r talking about a team that moved back into the 2nd round for Aguayo. This org drafted Daquan Bowers in the second round. This team drafted Arielius Benn in the 2nd Round. This Org traded a 2nd round pick for a freaking TIGHT end! Remember Kellen Winslow Jr? So guess what? Noah Spence is a freaking BUST!!! Just Sayin

  41. 813bucboi Says:

    D1

if MD feel to them sure…..at OSU spence bounced around from DE to OLB but he rarely dropped into coverage…..

with that said, that’s why the scouts get paid….

I still say Carr for Winston. Change of scenery would do them both good.
