“It’s A Quarterback’s Dream To Be In That Huddle”

September 17th, 2018

Says he can “pick and choose.”

America’s MVP, Ryan Fitzpatrick, is one gracious dude.

He should be. Look at the weapons around him.

Heck, general manager Jason Licht has found a way to have three No. 1 wide receivers on the same roster. What team has that and a loaded tight end corps?

Fitzpatrick knows he’s landed in quarterback heaven, so he explained after the game, another four-touchdown, 400-plus-yard affair for him to follow up his NFC Offensive Player of the Week award.

“It’s such a great feeling out there. I mean, the pass to O.J. [Howard], to sit there and watch him take off down the sideline; that’s a tight end scoring a 75-yard touchdown,” Fitzpatrick said. “Chris Godwin got in the end zone again. And obviously, Mike Evans, whenever we need him he’s going to make a play.

“It’s a quarterback’s dream to be in that huddle with those guys. And I’m getting time to do it with the guys up front, kind of survey the field and pick and choose.”

You know what else is the “quarterback’s dream?” It’s the ugly Steelers defense arriving in Tampa to play the Bucs next week on Monday Night Football.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes roasted them for six touchdowns and an 82 percent completion rate on Sunday. In Week 1, the Steelers coughed up a 14-point, fourth-quarter lead to the Browns.

Joe sure hopes Todd Monken stays aggressive against Pittsburgh. They should have the advantage doing just that.

  1. Cannon Says:

Seems like the perfect storm. Our O line is dominating, and giving our QB time to scan the field and pick an option. Our receivers and tight ends are so good that there will ALWAYS be someone open. Throw in a veteran QB who can make all of the throws AND add timely wise decisions, and what you get is a lethal offense.

  2. '79Defense Says:

So glad we have a second week to enjoy all of this. Hopefully things won’t come back down to earth next week, but you never know.

  3. NJBucsFan Says:

America’s MVP….I like it. Ryan Fitzchise

  4. Bucsfanman Says:

Fitzy looks like Connor McGregor in that get-up!
We have the weapons, Bucs fans. It’s time to start believing that we can compete with ANYBODY!

Where are all those “0-3” peeps now?!

Tony LA- I hope you’re feeling better about Fitzy after these 2 games!

Been asking for this since well before JW3’s suspension was announced. Been a long summer, but here’s plenty of room on the bandwagon folks, hop on, Joes included!

  6. Wausa Says:

OLINE deserves a ton of credit
I agree Cannon it’s the perfect storm and Fitz has been almost perfect, but what is even better is the Bucs have an incredibly talented player coming back next week.

Things look really good right now.

  7. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

I love it Joe! It’s fun to be a Bucs fan! Wonderful we can all enjoy this for a change! Let’s rally around these guys and keep it rolling!

  8. Rayjay1122 Says:

I can’t even believe that I actually expect a win Monday night and a 3-0 start. Is this real life?

  9. americasenabler Says:

The tape on Fitz is out now so this will be a great test on Monday night to see if Monkin can start putting in some wrinkles to keep these Defenses honesty. Establishing a running game will be the way to start. Barber hasn’t really had a chance to get in gear.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We deserve to enjoy this….been through misery….then the suspension….injuries…..

Oline is doing great….Jensen was a good signing…

  11. zzbucs Says:

Lets keep it humble, lets keep a low profile, lets stay with the underdog spirit………That will take us very far!!!!
Coach Koetter you deserve this any a lot more!!!I always belived that the situation was a process……

  12. El Buco Realisto Says:

    @Tampabaybucfan

    “We deserve to enjoy this…”

Do we????? I mean, the “real” fans are grateful to see exciting and winning football!!!!! But there were many sheep and so-called fans that tried to derail the product that we are so lucky to witness!!!!!

#trust the coaches!!!!!!!! Fix the “real” problem!!!!!! the roster!!!!!!!!

    Go BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Big Stinky Says:

Can’t wait to see the next game. I hope Fitz can keep it going. He is setting the bar pretty high for Jameis right now. Did I hear somewhere that Fitzy has never been to the Playoffs? Will this be the year? #FearTheBeard #GoBucs

  14. joestang Says:

They say if you live long enough you will see it all. Fells like 2002.

  15. 813bucboi Says:

oline played great….would’ve liked to see a little more of the rookie Wilson….he had 1 nice run on offense…..

the thing that really stood out is when the bucs turned it over we didn’t blink….we didn’t fold….we battled and fought thru…..

looks like we’re starting to get mentally tough….

    #TUNNELVISION!!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  16. stpetebucsfan Says:

Again this all starts with the Oline. Jensen has been a great addition and his surly attitude seems to have rubbed off on the rest of the line.

If the OL continues to give Fitz time there is NOTHING any NFL DC can do to “scout” or pick apart Fitz’s game. He has the targets…out the wazoo…he can make the throws…if the OL gives him time there is no stopping this offense until we have a bad game and stop ourselves.

  17. i like gunslingers Says:

jensen is the badass enforcer on the o-line, that mofo will mix it up with anybody, wait until we see a cheap shot on fitz and or winston, there will be a freaking all out bench clearing brawl, when these teams that used to push the bucs around and have there way start getting embarrassed, and scored on at will, because this offense is just getting started, watch dis chit in the 9th 10th week and we are leading the division by a wide margain and putting the hammer down on deese mofo’s !!! go bucs

  18. Casual Observer Says:

Best WRs and TEs in the NFL. And a QB that uses them perfectly.

  19. Pickgrin Says:

I knew as soon as the OLine started doing their job – which allows the running game to work – that this offense would be very hard to stop.

We had 2 of the worst Guards in the league starting last year…

It really does all start up front.

OLine playing well as a unit makes this whole offense shine. Opening some holes for Barber provides the balance needed to allow the receiving weapons the advantage on many downs. Bucs QBs have so many good receiving options that when the OLine provides a clean pocket – its just a matter of find your mismatches and play pitch and catch to the open guy…

Monken might be in the early lead for assistant coach of the year – but behind the scenes – Warhop is getting his well deserved fair share of kudos.

  20. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

You know casual that’s exactly what we have but NFL.com on their weekly poll of who has the best receiver group nor even mentioned. I think the browns were up there though. Gonna be a while to get the Rodney Dangerfield of the NFL off our backs.

  21. ndog Says:

Jameis put himself in this situation, so he has no one to blame but himself, but it is sad that as soon as he cant play this team puts a competent oline in front of the QB and a play caller that actually knows how to use its weapons. Who knows how Jameis would have done in these first 2 games, but we can all agree that the play calling and the usage of the weapons has been done to perfection and that is not all the QB.

  22. Pryda... sec147 Says:

Can’t wait for Jameis to get the Reigns back! Go Bucs

  23. SB Says:

Just saw a stat where Fitz already has 3 passes of 30+ yards in the air in two games.
JW3 had One all of 2017

  24. El_Buc941 Says:

@Cannon and even when they aren’t open Fitzpatrick has been throwing it up for them to go up and get or putting it only where they can stretch out and grab it.i have a feeling if we keep it up sometime around the time we play Baltimore or another division rival like the Panthers or Falcons we’ll be pushed from Sunday 1pm to Sunday 8:15pm more than a few times.

  25. m0j0 Says:

Improved O-Line play, aggressive play calling on offense (forget balance, let’s air it out), WR’s and TE’s winning their 1 on 1’s almost at will, and a defense that’s finding it’s way and making enough plays to help us win (though there’s a lot of room for improvement).

  26. donuts Says:

Bucs are starting to show some “IT” factor or swagger. TEAM Chemistry is off the charts at moment. I am very happy after a 10 year drought on playoff hope.

  27. Bird Says:

    Americas MVP.

Touché Joe’s and well deserved title. The kid is setting nfl records. Playing at another level that we haven’t seen in Tampa. Didn’t think he had one bad play on Sunday

    In Fitz we believe.

  28. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

How can you not love a guy who plays with a metal wedding band on. Has to be the only player in the NFL doing that. Personally wouldn’t catch me doing that in a million years, even if I played QB. Great way to get a finger ripped off.

  29. D-Rome Says:

Ryan Jensen is proving to be just as big an acquisition as JPP.

  30. lambchop Says:

I smiled when Jensen got that 15 yard penalty. Settin the tone.

  31. Anonymous Says:

The Steelers will blitz on almost every play, which if the Bucs can pick it up will give Fitz similar opportunities as the last two games. Just hope the blitz pickup from Quizz and Barber remains as stout as it’s been. Also imagining OJ sliding out for a screen pass and housing it.

  32. Buc1987 Says:

The Steelers DC is going to be biting his nails all week once he turns on that film.

  33. Big Stinky Says:

    @SB

Do you mean he has at least 3 in each game because he has at least 8 passes over 30 yards total?

  34. PSLBob Says:

O-line is playing much better than I think anyone expected. Just need to get a running game established so we can eat up more clock time to protect our lead late in the game. Is ROJO still a BUC?

  35. Big Stinky Says:

We had 18 of them in 2017 BTW!

  36. Buc4evr Says:

@lambchop. I laughed also, Jensen was taking names and kicking ass. The guy is a beast, makes the whole O-Line play with intensity.

  37. Anonymous Says:

Big Stinky the stat he is referring to is TD passes of 30+ and that was after only game 1. The actual number for Jameis last year was 2 not 1.

  38. orlbucfan Says:

Heard the Fitz-Jackson 1st play explosion on Bucs Radio with headphones on. Almost could not believe it. Then I thought about the 3 years I’ve watched DK put an offense together that is starting to rival Tony Dungy’s Tampa 2 SB defense. Needless, to say, I listened to the rest of the game with a big smile. I did feel sorry for the people enduring the Hell Bowl (105 temps). Done that one in my younger days. No way can I do that now. GO MIGHTY BUC OFFENSE MONDAY NITE!!!

  39. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

I expect there to be a ton of Steelers fans in the stands, since they have a nationwide fanbase, but those of us who will be at that game should be ready to drown out the playcalls of the Steelers offense and confuse the @#$% out of them.

Looking forward to some big plays on both sides of the ball, I just hope we get some of our Defensive players back from injury.

Rojo could be an option to return if he has been learning his pass blocking. Hopefully, he learns all that soon, because we need someone with breakout speed to make some explosive runs (not the kind you get from bad tacos).

Agreed. We need to really focus on running game. Tape showing us bombing away. Do the unexpected, soften them up …Then Bombs Away!!

  41. Dapostman Says:

The Steelers will attempt to keep everything in front of them and make Tampa go on some long drives. Patience will be the key for Fitz and Monken. Getting the running game going will be huge. Looking forward to Monday Night at Ray Jay!
