“Moose” Talks Bucs

September 8th, 2018

Moose Johnston of FOX Sports.

Enough with the talk. Let’s see it!

Daryl “Moose” Johnston, the famed fullback of the 1990s Cowboys and current FOX Sports NFL analyst has seen the Bucs bulk up their defensive line this past offseason. He’s heard the talk of how it is better. Now, Moose tells Greg Auman of The Athletic, the new look Bucs defensive line has to get results.

Immediately.

You always talk about the front and the coverage going hand-in-hand, and what Tampa Bay did in the offseason to strengthen their defensive line, it’s going to be critical for those guys to be able to play their role, get some pressure on Drew Brees and make the ball come out a little quicker. You have some guys in the back end that are going to be in a tough positions, so anything they can do up front, make sure he’s uncomfortable from time to time.

Moose also mentioned to Auman that the likely loss of Brent Grimes tomorrow is worse than one first thinks. Moose said likely the Bucs are going to depend on one of the rookie corners to fill Grimes’ spot and just about the worst place for a rookie defensive back to play his first NFL game is the Superdome, where all of those Cajuns, fueled on Bud Light and gumbo, are at full-pitch when the Saints are rolling.

Joe has to agree with Moose about the pass rush. The Bucs need that and need that badly Sunday.

I think one player in particular can help us slow down Drew Breese and get a win… That’s Gerald McCoy. He’ll also be relied upon to stop Kamara up the middle. G-Mac needs to have the game of his life or our corners will be exposed and Kamara will run wild. JPP can contribute as well but McCoy needs to have more of an impact in the middle of the line. It’s really our only hope.

    Is it Sunday yet?

  3. Jmarkbuc Says:

So was this just an IR money grab year for Grimes?

    Miko ain’t no Dummy…

  4. Trench War Says:

    amen Moose, and JBF

  5. The Buc Realist Says:

While BG24 being out of the game hurts for tomorrow’s game, It could be better for the team in the long run!!!!! With a pulled hamstring, he could be out until after the early bye week!!!!! And the way this year is building up, with the roster being a work in progress, Starting the new young crew is the way to go!!!!!!!! The Bucs will be better for it in the back half of the year!!!!!!!

Will the pass rush be good enough tomorrow?????? I don’t think it is, leaving Coach Smitty to be more aggressive and bring the blitz more than they want to on 3rd downs!!!! It will put much pressure on the secondary!!!!!! Also about GMC93, last time he sacked Drew Brees was on September 20th, 2015!!!!!!! That was just about 3 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!

#trust the coaches!!!!! Fix the “real” problem!!!!!! The roster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    24 hours and 18 minutes…..

  7. cmurda Says:

I can’t lie. I just don’t feel good about this one. Unrein (IR), Winston, Grimes, Vea all out. I hope the depth proves worthy from Licht’s draft because there are definitely going to be some fingers pointed at Jason if this team doesn’t win games.

  8. Lamarcus Says:

Guessing Mrs.Grimes has “toast” on the menu

  9. Trench War Says:

Historically we are not a blitzing type team. I think we should change that this game and surprise the sh|t outta N.O. With our new aggressive front 4 getting there quicker, we should do more LB, and safety blitzes. Oh, and please don’t forget to put a spy on Alvin Kamara. Have Justin Evans shadow Kamara the whole game.

  10. webster Says:

Spy the running back with the safety? What type of scheme is that? Come on man!!!???!!!

  11. BucNole Says:

If youre gonna shadow Kamara it needs to be Kwon. . .. the safeties are going to have to help out our rookie corners. . . sure would be nice to see this DL step up and do some damage. . . just make Brees uncomfortable and move him off his spot. . . GMC up the middle and into his face would be great to see. . . and LD blowing up a screen pass. . . and

  12. Defense Rules Says:

Love Brent Grimes as a player, but with a groin pull he probably won’t be doing us much good for weeks. Going against the Saints, Eagles & Steelers with a very young & inexperienced Secondary really sucks, BUT … we can still win those games IMO IF 2 things happen. First, our offense better score some points (the more the merrier), control the clock AND minimize turnovers (IOW, ball control offense). Second, our defense better figure out how to not only pressure those QBs, but also we’ll need to get sacks & turnovers to stay competitive (all 3 opponents have great offenses AND defenses). Everyone seems to think that all 3 opponents will be able to whoop us with passing, but I’m still more concerned about us stopping their running game. Without Vea & Unrein, our DLine is only at half strength. Minimal DLine rotation will hurt us later in games, just like it did last year.

  13. Trench War Says:

This is why I said change it up. They’d expect us to use Kwon

  14. Trench War Says:

you guys are just as predictable as Smith. There is no rule that says a FS can’t cover a RB. Just like there’s no rule a LB can’t help out in coverage ..geez

  15. TampaTown Says:

Everyone wants to say Brent Grimes is old and slow but here we are devastated by his loss. The national media needs to wake up to just how good BG is. And you guys stop talking sh!t about Miko. None of you would have the guts to say it to her face. Get well soon Brent, we need you.

  16. BucEmUp Says:

Pass rush w ONT be there when we always let the qb throw the ball almost immediately after the bal.is snapped. Hike, throw! That’s what happens with 12 yard cushion coverage

  17. SOEbuc Says:

Everyone crying about how we don’t have a chance, we beat them with a 4-11 team last year. Don’t give a sh!t if it’s in Superdome. Wait till the game starts. Go back to your national media research Moose.

  18. BuccaneEric75 Says:

He says that the loss of Grimes is worse than one would think? That’s the understatement of the year! If that’s not what one would think, then what is he thinking? These National reporters just don’t have the pulse of Bucs fans. Understandable, but frustrating.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

Breaking News : The NFL has lifted Jameis Winston’s suspension citing that being a Tampa Bay Buccaneer is punishment enough.

    🙂

    Go Bucs!

  20. orlbucfan Says:

Earth to Mike Smith: how about some REAL creativity in designing blitz packages??????? Also, MORE of them!!!! You have the DL and LB players now. Speaking of spies, LVD and Kwonster on Brees and the hot WR and/or RB. Who will be the starting 3rd LB with Beckwith out? Monk will definitely take some pressure off DK. It’s about time the offense exploded even with Fitz starting. And……..thank gawdalmighty, we have a kicker. GO BUCS!!

  21. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Less than 24 hours tinker bell 93 will be a non factor in another important buc game…

    Saints 52

    Bucs 6

  22. Godeep66 Says:

@buc1987 and all you other snowflake tree huggers. You do know that the female Uber driver resides in a state that has statute of limitations for the crime that JW committed? She is setting it up to go after him when he gets his new contract. Probably starting to see a psychiatrist right now for emotional stress. Although, he may try to do some under the table payment plan as has been done before. Either way, he will get nabbed again. I just had a good conversation with an attorney here in NOLA and he was the one that brought up this legal plan of attack. Grab the popcorn in Feb/March of next year.

  23. Godeep66 Says:

    Has no statute limitations

  24. LakeLand Says:

The Saints only gave up 20 sacks all of last season. They have one of the best O-Line in the NFL. We all know that the Bucs need to get pressure on Drew Brees. But it’s easy said than done. I hope the Bucs don’t go to a blitz package, if they can’t get pressure with their front 4. If they do, Kamara will destroy them.

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

Moose is spot on about the loss of Grimes. Brees is gonna target that area for sure. He will capitalize if there is weakness early. Bucs better be ready. I can guarantee you the Saints will be.

  26. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Godeep66, what does 87s’ obviously comedic comment have to do with a lawsuit? Also, how can you be a snowflake and a tree hugger? Leftists are the snowflakes. Talk about triggered.

  27. BuccaneEric75 Says:

LakeLand, I wouldn’t say that NO has the best OL because of the sack total when they also had the fewest 5 and 7 step drops in the league.

  28. Godeep66 Says:

The truth is what I speak.

  29. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Godeep66, the “legal” truth is what you speak. You and I don’t know what happened in that car. It’s just your opinion, not truth. I’m still not sure what this has to do with 87’s comment. I’m guessing you don’t either.

  30. Rod Munch Says:

He needs to put some weight back on, skinny Moose freaks me out, he looks like he has HIV or something.

  31. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

I’m so sick of all this he said she said all season and what we should be or will be. It’s time this team takes us fans and the game seriously. I don’t want to see players being friends in the game. I want to see a straight up dog fight by the Bucs! Grind and grit to the core until the Saints can’t walk anymore. This is a game of passion, determination, and all out domination. This D line needs to step up and take control the whole game. Don’t be no Yo Yo’s. Just Win Bucs!

  32. Godeep66 Says:

Skinny moose is now off the roids.

  33. Rod Munch Says:

Godeep66 – He should roid back up, he looked a lot better, now his head is way too big for his skinny body, if he continues to lose weight he’s going to look like Mr Mackey from South Park.

  34. Lucious Selmon Says:

“… he’s going to look like Mr Mackey from South Park.”

    LOL MmmKay!

  35. Architek Says:

Keep it simple – man up press and play tight. It’s gonna be a shootout.

Once again, Licht and the front office depend on aged veterans.

  36. Jim Says:

Go Bucs! Fueled by gumbo, oyster shots and Bourbon Street naked ladies… Beads!!
