“He’s Been Going Overtime”

September 21st, 2018

After Vita Vea’s first practice in pads yesterday since his calf injury in late July, Joe thought it would be a good idea to ask about the return of the No. 12 overall pick in the Bucs locker room.

Joe targeted Gerald McCoy for a take on what it meant to have Vea back on the practice field and in the mix.

McCoy wanted to be sure everyone knows Vea has been working his butt off.

“V, he’s, whether you guys believe it or not, he hates not being out there,” McCoy said, using Vea’s nickname. “He’s not trying to make this thing stretch out; he’s been going overtime to get back. It was good to see him out there yesterday and he’s just going to continue to push until he’s back.”

Good stuff from McCoy. He has a high work-ethic standard and isn’t about to throw fake praise on a rookie.

Joe expects to see Vea on the field Monday night, barring any kind of setback with his healed calf. How many snaps he gets is another story. That’ll vary based on his stamina, performance and the foot injury to Beau Allen.

Carlton Davis and MJ Stewart have already provided a glimpse as they were part of the compensation of the trade back.

I anticipate Vea to be a good football player for us. I am excited for the infusion on our trenches.

We all like the kid. He will get a few snaps on Monday night. Hope he can make a couple of nice splash plays on Defense. Its gonna take him a minute to get fully back though.

  13. DRFEELGOOD Says:

The outlook in the trenches just keeps getting better. Go Bucs!!

I’m guessing it’s been as much about his stamina as the injury it’s self. Just based on his comments about the heat at the start of camp. Then they kept mentioning him swimming , bike work ect. losing 15 lbs. Also, him being spotted away from prying eyes working on his own, running ect. I don’t agree 100% with Sapp that one CAN’T adjust coming from the W.Coast. But it sure won’t happen over night. Bring back the Perkins 3-a-days..lol

The “real” fans are very excited to see Mount VEA out on the field!!!!!!! It will be very apparent quickly why they targeted him in the draft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t look at it that way. Once the deal was done to move back from #7 – GM hits “reset” and proceeds from there.

When the #12 pick that we traded down to came up – DT Payne, DE Davenport and SS James were all on the board. All 3 very good prospects at positions of need for this team. Hell – Saints gave up a fortune to move up for Davenport and took him 2 picks after Vea, Da’Ron Payne was taken at 13 and James at #17.

I’m not suggesting that Vea was not the best prospect of those 4 players who were all picked in the same range – just that its frustrating that fans have had no way to see for themselves how good Vita actually looks on a professional football field. Meanwhile, Derwin James is ballin down in the soccer “stadium” in LA…

Great news! I believe he’ll need a few weeks to round into form. Hopefully him and Beckwith will provide great second half additions to our football team. Best thing about Vea coming in is that eliminates at least 2-3 more trolls! Been really nice in here the last couple of weeks! Where’s the troll, I mean the Beatch, I mean the maxi pad who guaranteed we were gonna lose by 40 in week 1????? Bye Felicia!

  21. Casual Observer Says:

Can’t wait to see V in action. First game – so might be some rough going. But my guess his that he’ll shine soon. A good pick.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

It would be kinda quick to throw him in there, there’s no way he’s in any sort of football shape at this point. But hey, if he can play some then he’s certainly more worth activating and playing than guys at the very bottom of the roster, so you might as well throw him into the fire and see what happens. Last week on those 4th and 1’s that Philly was running, even as a rookie he could have been a real help assuming he lives up to the promise.

  23. Superselmon Says:

Vea will play third and long, everybody thinks he’s only a run stuffer.

  24. Superselmon Says:

Vea will play on third and long. The NFL thinks he is a run stuffer. What a surprise for the Steelers interior line. Rothesburger beware the sack attack is coming Monday Night.

  25. Owlykat Says:

He is so strong the Steelers will have to double team him, freeing up McCoy to bust through and get some more sacks. And they still won’t be able to run on Vea either. The Bucs will be fired up appearing on National TV!

  26. Rod Munch Says:

Superselmon – Yeah, you kinda of look at his college production and he kinda looks like just a run stuffer. Not sure why people suddenly think he’s going to be Warren Sapp in the NFL.

Warren Sapp had 84 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks his last year in college, Vita Vea had 43 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. Not exactly the same type of player and for college stats, Vita Vea profiles more as just a big body run stuffer taking up space.

Hopefully I’m wrong since picking Vea makes no sense as the Bucs don’t run a 3-4 where they need a guy to take up space, instead they need production. We shall see, and I’ll gladly look dumb if he turns out to be great, but those predicting greatness and tons of sacks, it’s based on combine results, not on-field production.

  27. D1 Says:

    Owlykat,

Pittsburgh will not need to double team him. Certainly not Because he’s so strong.
Vv got manhandled in college when he faced off against superior linemen from other conferences. It doesn’t matter how strong he was compared to college players. Nfl player’s strength and speed are a prerequisite for employment.
Technique and timing is far more likely to decide who wins on a play. V hasn’t had a chance to learn a completely new fundamental technique that is extremely different than the way he played in college. New fundamentals , zero reps,
Learning on the job. Yep……He’s primed for the pro bowl….double digits sacks, hair and food product endorsement and commercial in the bag. Shame Stevie t isn’t in Tampa to pair up with.

That troll beatch or maxipad or whoever that lame life calls himself can be gone forever! He is by far the worst jbf poster and the puke couldn’t even keep his word when he was maxipad after the whole dalvin cook thing. I’m glad she is hiding under a rock lately because that mean the bucs are playing lights out great football as a team! I’m glad they are winning while our pretty good rooks our getting playing time because hopefully they can learn what it feels like to be a team that wins and they carry that feeling through out their careers.. Talking guys like mj Stewart & Davis… If you looks back on my earlier posts from this year you will see me trying to pass positive vibes about the season as I saw a team that could hang with anyone. I also claimed that the saints were by far the best win they could get out of first 3 because it would translate into more confidence for the season while beating a division rival.. I just could not possibly see how well Fitz would do but sure am happy he is playing, making the team feel like a weapon! Perfectly happy if he rides this thing out all year and into the playoffs! And I’d be fine with jw3 returning if needed as long as coach monk & the rest of the team keeps it up….. Can I get a great big HELL YEAH FROM THE TRUE BUCS FANS ON THIS SITE?
