Advice From Booger

September 24th, 2018

Offers tip for Bucs.

Tonight the Bucs are on “Monday Night Football.” And while Chucky is no longer in the booth, another former Bucs winner is a new member of the MNF broadcast team.

That would be former Bucs defensive tackle Booger McFarland.

For some odd reason, BSPN has Booger in some sort of contraption where he is whizzed back and forth along the sidelines attached to a sideline camera.

For Booger’s sake, Joe hopes it doesn’t start raining on him tonight.

In a preview of the game and sort of a State of the Bucs interview, Greg Auman of The Athletic spoke with Booger. Of course, he loves the fact they are undefeated but Booger wants to see the Bucs be a little more of a complete team.

“What do you have that you can count on as your hallmark? Right now, the Buccaneers’ hallmark is their offense,” Booger said. “It’s Fitzmagic throwing the ball, making plays down the field. Here’s what I’m here to tell you: Those big plays aren’t always going to happen, so you have to figure out a way to shore up their red-zone defense, to run the ball consistently.

“You don’t have to run for 200 yards, but you have to be able to consistently run the football when you need to run it. That’s what I’m going to start to look at, if they can continue to improve in those areas.”

The red zone defense is downright rancid right now. Foes have entered the red zone eight times in two games and have come away with seven touchdowns. With the talent on defense and the upgrades they made on defense this offseason, that is absolutely inexcusable.

Joe isn’t sweating over the run game so much but, woof, that red zone defense is just frightening.

Deja-vu from last year. No run game/sorry defense. Difference is we have a QB who can hit the longball to keep us in games. Without those we are 0-2 and Dirk’s
    seat is broiling.

red zone defense could be better no doubt but I think our hallmark is an explosive quick strike offense…..and I think that’s is something you can hang your hat on until someone stops it…..defense will continue to improve(hopefully)….they played better vs the philly than the saints…..and it looks like the saints have no problem scoring 35+ on anyone…..ST haven’t been a disaster like last year…..I think we’re as complete of a team as the chiefs or rams…..

tonight will show folks just how complete we are……

    #TUNNELVISION!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  3. 813bucboi Says:

imo, booger lost a little creditability when he said he didn’t think myles garrett was elite and worthy of the 1st overall pick…..im a SEC nut and I could tell garrett was going to be better than clowney…..

unfortunately, most of BSPN’s analyst for there for entertainment vs facts…..

    #TUNNELVISION!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  4. Not there yet Says:

Is someone expecting mike smith to wake up and actually step out of the box? His scheme is offensive and the talent of his players and turnovers they created is the only reason fans aren’t at ray jay with pitchforks. Confident in the head coach sort of but zero confidence in the d coordinator

  5. horse liver Says:

3 rookies and a scrub in the secondary. And the last TD they gave up was good coverage, it was one of those perfect throws. With Grimes back that should help immensely.

  6. SB Says:

I wished Booger could have “advised” us to draft Kerryon Johnson instead of Rojo.
Johnson became the first Detroit RB to rush for over 100 yards in 5 yrs.

  7. Jmarkbuc Says:

Time for Hump and the bubble screen…and OJ’s play.

  8. Godeep66 Says:

    Love this guy!!!!!

  9. ArmyBucsFan Says:

SB I COULDNT AGREE MORE!!!!K. Johnson last night was incredible. He’s shifty, can catch and isn’t afraid to find the hole unlike Rojo with his minuscule runs and inability to make a difference. Rojo was a horrible pick up :(.

    ——————–

*Same lousy defense as last year
*Same lousy draft from Forrest Gump as last year
*Same lousy FA signings as last year
*Same lousy run game as last year
    *Same personnel as last year

    Fitz was putrid last year
    Djax was here last year
MeMe Evans was here last year
Godwin and OJ was here last year

    SO WHY ARE WE WINNING?

    “TODD MONKEN”

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

STRIKE!!!!……early & often……long passes, intermediate passes….short passes……where is the end around?…….and if we have a lead like the last two games…..forget the run and keep doing what got you the lead…..build on it……don’t play scared……sit there and worry about an interception and then fumble trying to run out the clock.

Tonight, a heavy dose of Hump, Howard and Brate…..and some dink and dunk stuff to Barber.

  12. Dewey Selmon Says:

Kobe, Monker call the plays, Fitz throws the passes.

  13. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Kobe

Monken can have some of the credit…Fitz WAS a WINNING QB last year…and the MAJOR reason we’re off to a better start is our OL is performing very well. Fitz has had the time to make the throws.

Fitz has set the bar pretty high. When Jameis comes back if he has trouble connecting with DJAX or any other receivers on the long ball it’s going to be TOTALLY on #3…there will be no excuses. Let’s hope he’s ironed out that part of his game.

  14. Etzel Says:

He’s right. Explosive plays are like turnovers. Hard to depend on them happening every game. Putting our season on streaky (old) players like Desean and Fitz is just asking for it.

  15. Frank Pillow Says:

As the season wears on, our tendencies will become more and more apparent to opposing coordinators. Booger is right- what happens when our crutch (explosive plays) gets taken away? Is this team capable and talented enough to execute a variety of looks so that our weaknesses are obfuscated? Eventually we’re going to have to run the ball and slow the game down. We’re going to have to be able to play field position and win ugly. It’s a long season and we have to be able to win in a variety of ways.

  16. SOEbuc Says:

Smitty is playing closer to the line outside the red zone and then drops em back to the 10 yard cushion zone when teams enter. What a disgrace.

  17. SOEbuc Says:

Grimes is returning tonight. Before we had nothing but rookie CBs and Conte and Justin Evans (2 years) and Ryan Smith (3 years).

  18. Mike Says:

    The Talent on defense joe?

  19. Kobe Faker Says:

    @STP

If you see those 3 games of Fitz last year again…

    You would apologize to me”

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Booger was such an entertaining guy on the radio here, I heard him only a few times but was blown away that it was our little Booger McFarland entertaining me so much and sounding like the comedy legend Patrice O’Neal, and sounding like him in the best possible way. Anywho I knew he was destined for something bigger than AM radio in Tampa and it’s good to see him work his way up MNF. With that said the way MNF is dumb, but what do you expect from those dopes at Disney?

Anywho Dungy, Booger, Keyshawn, Trent, Ronde and of course you had Gruden, Sapp and Lynch as well – how many talking heads have came out of that era is truly impressive.
