JPP Soars; Rotation Dream Fades

August 19th, 2018

Big divide

Man, Joe gets so soothed, comforted and fired up watching Jason Pierre-Paul play football and last night was no exception.

The man represents such an upgrade at defensive end, and he’s been an absolute terror on the field from the opening whistle. Don’t let the one solo tackle last night fool you.

Also, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the Bucs won’t be able to keep JPP off the field early in the season like they want to in order to establish an effective rotation on the D-line.

JPP is used to playing 90 percent of the snaps with the Giants, but the grand plan for him in Tampa was to cut his workload at least 20 percent.

That’s a great concept, and who wouldn’t want to re-create the 2017 Eagles defensive line? But through two preseason games Joe’s not feeling it.

Noah Spence has been relatively invisible — against second-teamers — and Mitch Unrein’s summer highlight is punching Caleb Benenoch. Will Gholston is being relied upon inside and veteran journeyman Will Clarke is having a nice summer, but the idea was to upgrade.

Joe is all for working JPP like a dog through the first four weeks. Bring it on. He looks ready for it and as hungry as any Buccaneer.

The Bucs must find a way to a 2-2 record before their Week 5 bye. Joe doesn’t care how fresh JPP might be against the Ravens in Week 15.

JPP needs to sit out the next 2 games.
We don’t need to roll the dice any more.

  2. El_Buc941 Says:

He stays on field 90%, Tampa goes 3-0 the first 3 games, we win division and lose in conference. Mark my words.

  3. The Buc Realist Says:

It look like V Curry had a good game last night as well. Was pretty consistent on every play!!!!!!! The “real” question is what is going on with KA58??????? Can Joe find out!!!!!!! Does he have a nagging injury???? Is he out of “energy drinks”??????????

    Find out Joe!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Buchead5588 Says:

I agree sit him next week we need him I wish we could of got him an Robert Quinn

  5. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Maybe our coaching and schemes are the problem and not the players???

Lord knows we can’t seem to develop a decent secondary

  6. Pickgrin Says:

    JPP is balling!!

Hard to believe we were able to get this guy for a 3rd round pick. What a great investment. Way to stay diligent in getting this trade done Jason Licht!

noah spence has been invisible ? what games you watching he was working the titans backup tackle last night in obvious pass rush situations if you don’t realize that he is a pass rush specialist then idk what to tell you , he was playing all 3 downs so on 1st and 2nd he wasn’t having as much success but when he was allowed to just go after the qb he was routinely gettin pressure causing qb to roll out of the pocket . you do know it’s not all about sacks as a pass rusher, right ?? Wake up, man. Now we’re pigeonholing Spence as a pass-rush specialist? The dude bulked this offseason to play the run. Even Koetter acknowledged after the game that the pass rush wasn’t up to speed.–Joe last week he was credited with half a sack when he embarrassed miamis OT and should’ve been a clean sack but wasn’t able to bring him down completely and this week he did the same exact thing. That half-sack last week was a gift from the scoring officials.–Joe he missed the sack this week and he needs to finish the play but to act like noah spence is just getting stonewalled on every play is idiotic — Nobody acted that way. –Joe laughable and flat out wrong. i know a family friend who’s a very good eye doctor maybe you should contact him for a checkup

  8. horse liver Says:

Vinny Currie is the one who’s been invisible.

  9. Durango 95 Says:

Noah’s future appears to be a scheme specific situational role, only.

  10. Gobucs Says:

Looks like a 6 win team to me.

  11. Pryda... sec147 Says:

Let’s see what happens game 3 I am not so down as you are on Spence I’ve seen a bunch of plays him beating his man but not quite getting to the QB he is gonna figure it out just give him the room to grow. Vea is the real guy I wana see !!! It’s also preseason I’m sure guys aren’t going 100% why would you these games don’t count.

  12. Wausa Says:

I do think Joe is being a bit harsh with Noah Spence.
I agree he is not doing much to help out in run defense, but he has flashed some strong pass rush. The half sack Joe says is a gift from the scoring officials was a direct result of Spence pass rush causing the QB to move up in the pocket to avoid him and that caused the sack.

    @Doosh

Amen brother. We already know JPP’s talent level and these first two preseason games confirmed it and that he is ready to go.

    Sit him until the Saints!

  14. Bucsfanman Says:

Best d-line acquisition by far. I’m slightly concerned about the rest.

  15. Radsy Says:

Vinny Curry was very stout last night. Beat his man easily a couple times. Had a sack called back by Kwon’s penalty. Gholston even seemed to play with urgency.

  16. Kobe Faker Says:

“Lol!all these sheep upset for buying No Where Spence Jerseys! Stop listening to the Buc Realist nonsense. Go and find him at Sebring and demand 50% back for buying Spense jersey”

  17. Not there yet Says:

I don’t know what any of you have been watching but this entire pass rush is invisible just like it was last year. The d line looks extremely average no matter who is on the field

  18. johnnybuc Says:

yeah im calling spence a pass rush specialists because that’s exactly what he is and exactly what he’s going to be asked to do this season . for some odd reason some like to act like being a pass rusher as a DE/ OLB and not great against the run is a terrible thing guess what there is a good amount of players in this league who are exactly what spence is and get 8-12 sacks a year and get paid pretty handsomely because of it . having a guy like spence to unleash on obvious pass rushing situations isn’t a bad thing joe . don’t try to make him what he’s not . it’s like putting gholston out there as one of your rush ends on 3rd down and expecting him to blow past his guy off the edge , rarely ever going to happen.

  19. johnnybuc Says:

joe says the stat guys gifted spence a half sack against the dolphins last week when really spence hit the qb , qb broke away but immediately tripped up and touched down by another buc. so in reality spence was the cause of the sack and the other guy was gifted a half sack by the stat guys for touching the qb while already down lol

  20. Capt. Blighe Says:

Funny, Spence pass rush specialist. His pass rush move is to run around the outside right past the QB.

  21. Lamarcus Says:

Spence is not strong enough. Trade him. Gholston has been the better dline man.

  22. Joe Says:

Spence is not strong enough. Trade him. Gholston has been the better dline man.

One plays the run well (in theory) and is non-existent in the pass rush. The other (in theory) rushes the quarterback well but is non-existent against the run.

  23. Dapostman Says:

One of the plays that stands out to me was Vinny Curry’s tackle. It was the first play of quarter number 2 a 3 and 21 for the Titans. Curry was rushing from DT position was at the 4 yard line when pass was released and made the tackle at the 26 yard line to force a punt. That is some hustle for a 30 year old veteran in a preseason game. The thing I’ve noticed a lot more so far is the energy to get to the ball. Impressive.

    #Get After It!

  24. Bucamania Says:

JPP and Curry are huge upgrades. Beau Allen needs to step it up vs the run. Easy 3rd and 1 conversion in the first qtr right past him. Spence needs to finish! Runs in and whiffs on the Qb or RB. O’Connor looked pretty good last night when I keyed on him.

  25. BuczFan Says:

Joe, what game are you watching man? Spence had a sack and a half last week and should’ve gotten a half a sack yesterday. He’s also missed three easy sacks the past two weeks on a missed tackle where he absolutely put the left tackle on skates. It’s like everyone expects this man to get 4 sacks a game in the preseason just cause he’s “not playing against the ones”. You guys should know how hard it is to pass rush in this league, hell you are the ones that harp on the not having a 10 sack guy since Simeon more than anyone.
