Jameis Being Jameis

August 18th, 2018

America!

Somewhere in a Mississippi forest, Brett Favre is smiling.

On a play that both drives haters out of their minds and fills his supporters’ hearts with glee, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, pulled off one of his signature high-wire stunts that should never have been made, but resulted in six points.

For the Bucs.

On third down with five yards to go on the Titans-8, Jameis went back to pass and immediately was under duress. He dodged a would-be tackler. Dodged another with some quick feet. But a third tackler was in the process of dragging him down when Jameis launched a pass into the end zone.

It looked just like the Jacksonville interception last preseason.

But this time Chris Godwin, who looked open on the replay from field level, was quickly surrounded. But just as he did in college and just as Godwin has done in preseason practices, the second-year receiver went up, fought seemingly the entire Titans secondary, and hauled in the pass.

The scoring drive summed up Jameis perfectly. It was a 91-yard drive where he was 5 of 6 including a 54-yard bomb to DeSean Jackson over the middle.

And of course, it ended with a touchdown pass that most men would never have attempted.

But this is Jameis. Dude lives on the edge.

It drives conservative fans to ram their heads through a wall. It makes fans looking for drama and excitement and entertainment jump for joy.

Throw it away… throw it away… throw it away… throw it away… throw it away… NNNOOO! … YYYEEESSS!!!

Maybe he knew the thrown flag was on the D and was just taking a shot. Maybe????

  2. UgandanKnuckles Says:

I’m just going to assume he thought he had a free play, which he did.

  3. Red86 Says:

Defensive penalty. Most Qbs are more aggressive when they know it’s a free play.

  4. Broy34 Says:

But Lombardi says Bridgewater is better than Jameis because he played solid against nobodies. Jameis plays like an elite quarterback and crickets. Sorry guys this is our qb. Regular season I truly believe he runs or gets rid of it. Saw the flag and knew it was a free play.

  5. gambelero Says:

If you see the replay, the holding call is out in the open, right in front of Jameis. Of course he’ll claim he saw it whether he did or not, no way to prove it, but very plausible (likely is probably more apropos) he saw it.

  6. JimmyJack Says:

The crazy thing is how do you compare those plays to the turnovers?

  7. Broy34 Says:

Let’s face it if the defense wasn’t the worst in our teams history last year Jameis and the Bucs go 7-9 potentially 9-7. The bills game..cmon. Worst run game worst defense but yep Mariota is better

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

No way you make that throw……you can’t be sure about the flag….and Godwin was covered…..lucky…

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

On his radio interview he stated that Godwin was open…..said nothing about a free play….

  10. Joe Says:

On his radio interview he stated that Godwin was open…..said nothing about a free play

    ….

Saw two different field-level angles where it appeared Godwin broke open. The TV angle looked like Godwin in a scrum.

  11. JimmyJack Says:

Tampabaybucfan you’re right and you can’t make that throw. But even with that poor look it was still a really good day for Winston

  12. SOEbuc Says:

Very happy to see Watson makes some nice catches (that TD was beautiful) and Baily II ballin out again. This receiving battle is getting crazy.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    We have a multitude of good receivers………maybe 4 extra…..

  14. SOEbuc Says:

That pass to DJax down field made me think that work they put in in the offseason might really pay off on the downfield drives. If he continues this type of play, good chance he’s going in game three even if Fitz goes 3-0.

  15. SOEbuc Says:

Want to see Baily II in second string.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

Yes don’t ever throw TD passes Jameis…Bucs fans don’t even want you to do that!

    Starting to get ya DB55!

  17. Broy34 Says:

    Winston has a career year

  18. Buc1987 Says:

Yes don’t ever throw TD passes Jameis…some…Bucs fans don’t even want you to do that. Remember Mariotto was the better pick!

And like that fool next to Rhonde said Marriotto “led” the Titans to the playoffs….he and him only…..fool.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

Sorry…it wasn’t going through. Thought DB was the filtered word. lol

  20. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

My goodness. Really quiet night for the Jameis trolls. Remember, you still have “It was only preseason” and “I blindly believe the Uber driver.” to get you through this week.

  21. Tony LA Says:

This was nowhere near like the Jax turnover. Godwin was open. No dramatic analysis needed.

  22. Bucs Sam Says:

Call me crazy all you want that’s a preseason TD and a regular season INT.

You can say that’s JW being JW and I’ll agree however that’s the problem. Clearly he hasn’t learned, like not abusing women, throw the ball away in duress. Throwing it up in the end zone only works when half the guys in the end zone are CFL players. That’s an INT all day in the regular season.

Gawd, he still thinks he’s Bret Farve? He’s clearly learned nothing.

Gonna be a long season…… Ugh.

Any good good QB draft potential for next year? What a mistake this clown JW is…

  23. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Tampabaybucfan how many interceptions has Jameis thrown while in the redzone? You can count them on one hand. I love how you and jimmyjack only pointing out the appearance of a bad play but don’t say jack spit about all the good plays he made. It’s so called fans who make the game of football so boorish at times.

gambelero contrary to what some trolls say up here Jameis is a baller and a very heads up qb so I guarantee hey saw the flag. Even the announcer stated it was a free play. Dude’s always trying to downplay good things Jameis does good but highlights his little miss steps.

You clowns get the zerbert. You know what that is??? Put your tongues between your lips and blow. The sound you hear is what you get.

I’ll tell you all one thing as the season goes along and Jameis gets better and better and the Bucs are winning when you haters are up here showing your so called facts people like 1987, myself, db55, webster and buccaneerbinzai are gonna have to get into you people hard because we ain’t gonna be havin it at that time!

  26. Harlow Says:

Joe what’s your thoughts on jameis maybe knowing about the flag? Sure hope he did

  27. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

bucs ftwdwth whatever you name is shut up and go to bed it’s past your curfew!

  28. Joe Says:

Joe what’s your thoughts on jameis maybe knowing about the flag? Sure hope he did

First thing Joe thought of was the Jacksonville game last year where Jameis had that dumb throw for a pick. Joe asked Jameis if he thought he had a free play (there was a flag on that play) and Jameis said no.

  29. Bad Eric Says:

If they had quality starters not soon to be insurance salesman and truck drivers on defense the pass is likely intercepted and and totally different narrative is the story. Bottom line it’s another poor decision throwing a ball from your back into triple coverage like we have seen over and over except this time he got lucky and was bailed out by Godwin. He still hasn’t changed and that means more of the same. The real heroes of the game were the men catching the balls that were off target as usual but since Godwin, Evans, Brate, and Howard have 10 ft catch
radius, they make him look good. Just like Benjamin did for him in college. Without those guys being able to contort their bodies and out muscle their opponents those “so called great passes” would be picked off.
Just like Johnny Manziel, Evan’s makes Ja-miss look decent. Without Evan’s and Godwin he would flat out suck. Just look at Johnny for proof. He sucks without him but looked unstoppable to the point he got him drafted in round 1. Evans makes Ja-miss and without him he would be even more of a bust than what he is now. He should get all the credit for being the engine that drives this team. Because it sure as hell isn’t because of Winston’s accuracy. Evan’s is without question what makes this offense, like V JAx before him. Dont believe me look at the type of players they draft, guys who can can catch a ball even if it’s off target. It’s also why we suck at yac…..cant run upfield if you have to adjust to overthrows. I feel bad for Evan’s because he deserves the credit not the inaccurate one. #Evans makes Winston

  30. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Winston looks good. Decisive and sharp. His ability to escape pressure is underrated and he could be ready to “turn the corner”.

  31. James Walker Says:

They threw the flag at his feet. He knew it was a free play.

  32. Bird Says:

    Knew it

Look at his face when he thru

Hail Mary. But yeah it’s messiah

  33. Trench War Says:

He came out the hero this time but you can bet if he pulls that in a regular season game its probably a pick and an @ss chewin’ when he gets back to the sideline. Today he was a lucky hero thanks to Godwin.

  34. Not there yet Says:

You can get away with that playing second team defense because Godwin was the only one who tried to make a play on the ball…. What I didn’t like seeing was how excited he was about his play. I’m hoping but he just may never learn. Your playing with second team and suspended the first three games but dude doesn’t have a care in the world. I think after 4 years he is who is he is, we’re still talking about coaching these type of things out of him, not gonna happen for some reason he thinks it’s a normal thing to throw a ball in a crowd of people while falling down

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    SOEbuc Says
“Want to see Baily II in second string.”

You and me both. He won’t have much chance of becoming a starter because of quality depth, but I think he’s playing better than Wilson, Reedy and Martino. I would love to see how he does in a tougher situation.

And while we are at it..I think it’s time Griffin got the #2 spot for the next two games. Make Jameis the #3 and get Griiin reps, because if Ftiz goes down during the first 3 games, he’ll need the experience.

  36. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

He did pull it in the regular season last year…and scored.

High risk. High reward. The true essence of a gunslinger quarterback.

Heck, Favra had 4 turnovers in his first game, then went on to throw picks all the time, almost getting benched multiple times by Andy Reed.

And Favre never had single player stats as good as Jameis.

  37. webster Says:

These jameis trolls are idiots. Jameis is a playmaker but sure let the trolls believe the bucs are in better hands with fitzpatrick. If the trolls had any concept of football, they would clearly see the difference between the two. There is a reason fitz is on his 10th team but lets hand the keys to him and his meh arm.

  38. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Hey Buc1987 you know 3 names not seen on the Bucs/Titans open game feed? walter ziegheil, gotdeep666 and BriannaBucs! Guess they couldn’t stand seeing Jameis doing good! Maybe that little bit eric reyes was one of them using a different name.

  39. OneBuc55 Says:

America’s Quarterback Jameis Winston looked crisp tonight…

The Godwin play was classic Jameis…NO NO NO YES! He’s still a puppy in QB years; it’s gonna take a while to coach that out of him…That being said, his talent can’t be denied; he was born to throw something, wether it be a baseball or a football…
Just like Favre Jameis trusts his receivers to make those kind of plays…

Fitzpatrick on the other-hand, looks to be the 3rd best QB on this team…I actually would like to see Griffin with the 1’s…He’s been as sharp as a ginsu this
preseason…It would be a pleasant surprise if he could play the same way with and against the 1st team…I’m almost certain Fitzpatrick is outta here after this season…

  40. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

Ridiculous hater analysis…all QB’s at some point take risks…go listen to what the receiver had to say…you are suppose to be able to TRUST…and Godwin has earned the trust.

Haven’t you seen him fight for the ball in practice…Jameis knew who was in the endzone and he gave his rcvr a chance to make the play.

Separating the sheep from the lions!

    Go Bucs!

  41. JayCee Says:

He saw the flag? BS. Suppose that’s an offensive flag and there’s a pick. Tenn ball, another JW red zone interception. SMH

  42. Red86 Says:

I rather have this Jameis than Fitzpatrick. I wished Fitzpatrick seen Evan with one on one coverage when he threw to Jacquizz Rodgers in the redzone.

  43. Ftmyersbuc Says:

You jameis haters are just blind with your high moral righteousness. A 21 year old kid gets drunk makes a move on a girl and gets shut down. OMG Shame on him!!! Only because of his position in life is it a big deal. As far as his playing the kids not an elite qb but he’s definitely good enough to win a SB if our defense is top 10-15,

  44. Rod Munch Says:

    Brett Favre was never boring.

He’d come into Tampa against those all-time great defenses, he’s turn the ball over like 5 times, and yet somehow in the last minutes of the game, he’d be driving with a chance to win. Those defenses were so great they could make the final shutdown play when they had to, but Favre, no matter how bad he looked at times, no matter how many times Sapp knocked his face in, no matter how many sacks and turnovers, he was always there at the end still scraping away.

That’s what I see in Winston, and it’s what the numnuts that hate Winston miss. Winston is a playmaker, and he shouldn’t be boring. Last week at Miami he had the play before the half that everyone praised him for, for taking what was given to him, for being boring, but WWBFD? He wouldn’t be boring whatever it was. Anywho I had no issue with the checkdown throw in a preseason game, but I also have no issue with Winston making a touchdown out of a play where he had terrible blocking and single handedly kept the play alive and got 7 points where as if he was boring he’d have taken a sack.

When Winston was drafted everyone with an IQ over 50 knew that if Winston lived up to his potential, he’d be a gunslinger in the mold of Favre – and that’s what he is. Those that want to make him into a boring Alex Smith clone… go be a Redskins fan.

I watched on gamepass which was a Tennessee broadcast.
What i want to know is how TF do they get Jameis Winston’s stats wrong on the infographic when he came out on the field?

It said he has thrown for 69 TD and 70INT. What a load of bu!!$hit. Something tells me this wasn’t an accident. They wanted to put him down to raise up their QB.

That’s fine, but then I come here after the game and uninformed fans are taking this stat as gospel.
    Let me set it straight.
Jameis Winston 69 TD to 44 INT.
The dude looked like everything we expect him to be. Great job America’s Quarterback.
    Go BUCS!!

  47. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

Jameis found Godwin and Godwin found the ball…what’s so hard about it?

  48. Wausa Says:

I’m confident Jameis will have a pro bowl type year

  49. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

What people are missing is these Bucs are getting of to a fast start and Jameis has led most of the scoring drives. He’s not taking long to get his groove going and is throwing even better than before. These Bucs are not sucking in the preseason. Easy those Ws Jameis. You take us to the playoffs put that in a shirt!

  50. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

    Eat those W’s Jameis

  51. TOM Says:

I don’t care what anybody says I still think JW is a jerk.

  52. Buc68 Says:

You can think Jameis is a Jerk. Really that’s all these haters should just say, that they think he’s a jerk. They look dumb bringing up football at this point. He closed his last 4 games playing at a pro bowl level. He has clearly opened the preseason playing at that level if not higher. If he stays healthy based on the last 6 football games he’s played it’s quite clear he’s taken the next step. So haters just say he’s a jerk and you don’t like him, bringing up football is starting to look dumb.
