Benenoch Injury Remains A Mystery

August 5th, 2018

Caleb Benenoch dressed for, um, the 90-degree weather as he watched practice injured yesterday.

The guy handed the giant leg up to win the starting right guard job is now a giant question mark.

He’s injured, and the head man at One Buc Palace not named Glazer or Licht isn’t offering details.

Joe asked Dirk Koetter about third-year guard/tackle Caleb Benenoch yesterday. Benenoch was injured in Friday’s practice and was wearing a hoodie during Saturday’s practice under sweltering temperatures. Benenoch sure appeared down most of the time and wasn’t exactly bouncing around the field in shorts like injured Brent Grimes.

Joe asked the head coach whether he’d characterize Benenoch’s injury as a day-to-day thing, and Koetter passed on that — and on offering Bucs fans any details.

“I wouldn’t really characterize it as anything,” Koetter said of Benenoch’s injury. “This is training camp. It’s just, we’re a month away from playing. And you know, you’re not pushing those guys right now. Every guy on the team that’s got something that the doctors feel he’s got something that should [keep him out of practice], he should stay out.”

Joe is not a doctor and has never dressed as one on Halloween, but the Benenoch injury is a bit unsettling on a Sunday before the first preseason game. He’s got one career start at guard and the Bucs want a long look at him this summer after giving him nearly all the spring first-team snaps at right guard.

Joe will hope this mystery is all a big nothing.

I thought these mystery injuries would disappear when Lovie left but I guess not…..it may be something embarrassing like hemorrhoids or priapism.

Yeah could be something minor but hey more reps for Cappa who I hope can learn fast.

Another injury, another mystery, and another player standing on the sidelines watching practice taking “mental reps”. Please get all of the injured players who are totally unable to play off the field. Put them in a room with a closed circuit camera, if you want them to watch practice. They don’t belong out there in floppy hats, boots, or scooters.

    Mountain meet mole hill.

The right side of the offensive line is not in such bad shape as people claim…as they will learn this season.

Doctor Stroud, minor injuries only so far. So you are jumping the gun a bit.

Is he injured or just benched bc of the fight? Maybe he has a bad attitude, you know that’s a career killer in bucland. #WeakHavoc

This team will probably play Marpet at LG all training camp and then move him back to RG to start the season. We are going to fool everyone in the league.

  12. Trench War Says:

He might be taking it easy with his best starting RG. Not saying he doesn’t have something ailing like sore muscles or a strain but when you are the coach and you know Benenoch is your opening day starter, and there’s a huge drop off after him, he might be protecting his investment. just saying
