Another Four Years For Ronde Barber — And A September Homecoming

August 2nd, 2018

“Jason, man, now I can afford sweet threads like you.”

Historic Buccaneers ironman and (hopefully) Hall of Fame cornerback Ronde Barber has inked a fresh four-year deal to continue as the color analyst on Tampa Bay preseason telecasts.

Joe learned this nugget on the new Salty Dogs podcast on Buccaneers.com, featuring team multimedia guru Scott Smith and Director of Broadcasting Jeff Ryan.

Barber will continue to be teamed with renowned play-by-play man Chris Myers, who has been a fixture on Bucs preseason TV for over a decade. The duo will tee it up next Thursday for the Bucs’ preseason opener in Miami on WFLA-TV, Channel 8.

Barber also will be on the FOX call of the Week 2 regular season Bucs game against the Eagles in Tampa on September 16. His brother Tiki Barber will be the sideline analyst.

Joe loves the thought of Eagles fans having to listen to Ronde Barber, who ruined their season in 2002, as well as Tiki Barber, who was on their hated rival Giants for 10 seasons.

    Yeah for those years that the Eagles had our number, to shut down the Vet, and then open their (then) new stadium beating them…that was sweet.

    He does not need a red jacket!!!!!! When it should be Gold!!!!!!! The Greatest Buc in Buc History!!!! Rhonde Barber!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hell yea it was lunchbox!

    Ronde belongs in the HOF. Simple as that.

    HOF is a no brainer, more than Lynch, Rice, and Nickerson. The best nickel blitzer of all time.

    I concur. As for nickerson, he should have a red jacket. He was a big time free agent who came to the lowly bucs and showed the young pups what it meant to be a professional and win. Imo he was just as important as dungy. Do the right thing glazers!!!

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

    John Lynch should get a gold jacket just for the fact that he bamboozled commie kapernick into opting out of the league!!!!!!!!

  7. Lucious Selmon Says:

    Licht should have let his mom dress him.

    If he insists on that trouser/jacket combo he MUST wear a shirt with a pattern; or at least wear a pattern tie. Ugh

  8. Lucious Selmon Says:

    Tiki will finally get his wish to team up with his brother in Tampa! So cool!

    Ronde: one of the best tackling corners ever!

    @Webster
    I agree with you whole-heartedly on Nickerson. From my point of view, he really started the culture change in Tampa, and belongs on that stadium ring.

    To quote Ronde at the end of that game: “Pro Bowl my (butt)! [he was snubbed for the Pro Bowl in ‘02]; I’m going to the Super Bowl!” Loved it then…still makes me smile.

    @Lunchbox

    That (shutting down the Vet and then shutting up the crowd in the new digs in the next game) is one of my favorite memories, also!!!
