Not On Board Fitz Train

July 5th, 2018

The way a former Bucs player sees it, only a dang fool trying to get fired would bench America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, for Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Ian Beckles, a former Bucs guard and popular local radio personality, took to his podcast this week, “In the Trenches,” and in so many words said the demented haters begging for Ryan Fitzpatrick to be promoted to full-time starting quarterback in the wake of the Jameis hassle with an Uber driver should have their mouths washed out with soap.

Additionally, Beckles said for the loud masses clamoring for Jameis to be punted from the Bucs roster, they will rue the day if that happens.

“Unfortunately, we are not [in] a situation with the Buccaneers… where we can say we can win football games without Jameis, although we did last year for a bit,” said Beckles, as he complimented Fitz as a “good backup.”

“I still hear people asking for Ryan Fitzpatrick to be the starting quarterback. That’s a waste of breath. If Ryan Fitzpatrick is our starting quarterback, then you might as well cut Jason Licht, OK? And you might as well get rid of Dirk Koetter. You might as well. Because their future is done [if Jameis is benched].

Fitzpatrick “is not the future. His [likeness] is not on the side of the stadium. There are a few players who are on the side of the stadium. That’s who is running the show.

“Watch what you wish for. The second you want Jameis out of here, next thing you know he is going to come back here in a Saints uniform or something like that and torch the Bucs. Jameis still has a lot of good football left in him. No doubt.”

Joe cannot disagree with one word from Beckles, though perhaps Beckles was a bit tough on Fitz.

Jameis is the future. If he has a lousy season this year, then it’s possible he is gone. Despite the lack of wins (thank you Bucs defense, thank you kickers) Jameis’ numbers weren’t awful last year and perhaps the following has slipped people’s minds: Jameis won nine games in 2016. All of a sudden he’s a rotten quarterback?

Beckles said if Jameis is launched, then it will be like ex-Bucs quarterbacks the team gave up on because it lacked the guts, patience or the football common sense to keep. These same signal-callers went on to bigger and better things and became glaring reminders of the futility of this franchise.

Joe knows of three ex-Bucs starting quarterbacks who went on to win Super Bowls. One is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

So if for whatever reason you are rattled by Jameis, don’t wish for him to be tossed aside only to watch him succeed for his next team.

When Jameis goes on to NFL stardom and success wearing another team’s uniform, those who championed his exit can spend those dark losing fall Sundays comparing Eagle Scout medals with Mark Dominik.

Don’t be that guy.

I think we need to bring in a starting caliber vet before TC begins…and let the best man win…Foles would beat Jameis out head to head

  2. Pete I Says:

America’s Choir Boy won’t likely succeed for his next team, assuming there is a next team of course. He is certainly the current stain on the franchise and will be in the future no matter where he goes.

  3. Pete I Says:

Should have said Stain of the franchise. So sorry!

  4. Pickgrin Says:

Beckles making good points for a change.

Winston isn’t going anywhere unless he stinks this year – which ain’t happening…

  5. AmericasEnabler Says:

He Joe your agenda’s showing. How about supporting the team you cover instead of ripping the horses you don’t back?

  6. Pete I Says:

“Winston isn’t going anywhere unless he stinks this year – which ain’t happening…”

Well there is a first time for everything I suppose. His not stinking that is.

  7. Dooshlarue Says:

    He’s right. Jameis isn’t a terrible QB.
    he’s just a terrible person.

  8. Pete I Says:

    “He’s right. Jameis isn’t a terrible QB.
    he’s just a terrible person.”

Correct! He is a mediocre QB who flashe lots of good with lots of terrible.

  9. JameisNOT Says:

Winocheo will lie himself out of Tampa and be a backup for another team but only after some other ignorant GM gives him a chance at a starting QB. Could you imagine if this guy was in a big city and how much more trouble he would be getting himself in? Do keep in mind that he did go to Free Shoes University, where a drunk monkey could get a degree.

  10. Kobe Faker Says:

“With JW3 suspension, Glazers will give Klueless and Forest Gump an excuse to come back next year. Glazers and Gump will draft a 1st round draft pick to safeguard the team if JW3 gets banned indefinitely with another incident. Gump and Klueless will have another 2-3 years to develop the new QB….

WE WILL WIN AT THE MOST 4 wins…”

“2018 season, SMITTY’s Head will be given to the Klueless apologist fans”

    Kobe Faker

  11. AlteredEgo Says:

If Jameis has not corrected his mechanics and footwork setting up when throwing the ball…his accuracy is DOOMED….it will be easy enough to see the first day of training camp

  12. Pete I Says:

    Winocheo! Priceless!

  13. ben Says:

Winston has NOT shown worthy of 1st pick in the draft .. Also he is not the person i would want now as face of the team …As a season tkt holder –CUT HIM !

  14. BrianBucs Says:

Sometimes Beckles is right, sometimes he is wrong, like this time.
Time for the Bucs to cut their loses, admit their Winston mistake and move on.
Hopefully Fitz can keep things running and give Jason Licht time to find the Bucs a TRUE franchise QB

you want to clarify that racist comment?… disappointed….don’t be racist!!!!!

[Say hello to the cooler.. — Joe]

  17. FR Says:

I dont care about JW actions off the field anymore we didnt make it to the playoffs before or after his issues.

  18. tval Says:

You TRUMP TRAIN SNOWFLAKES need to stop while you’re behind…and I like trump…you hypocrites are SHAMELESS….and don’t compare race in sports, to race outside of, Pete…the SILLY NERVE, of some southerners…WOW!!! Pete has defamed Jameis multiple times…today! Tread lightly, pal, or your ONLY a source of joy will SOON be taken away…LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. FR Says:

Now that he is a father lets see how he would react if someone touched his kid privates and then says he didn’t do it. Would JW be so forgiving as the NFL and these fans?

  20. tval Says:

That’s defamation, meh…I say you should be banned…just my honest opinion, even though your biased takes never amount to much, aside from WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  21. tval Says:

Enough with the sanctimonious VIRTUE SIGNALING, FR…how many times have you guys embarrassed yourselves with this nonsense??? FOR SHAME!!!! Lol!!

  22. stpetebucsfan Says:

First don’t be so misdirected!!! Who cares what former Bucs have gone on to stardom anywhere else. So what.

What is disturbing is what we did with OUR team after they left. I’m happy for Steve Young and Doug Williams and if the Buc’s hadn’t sucked in so many areas of NFL team management it wouldn’t have made a difference. If we had fielded our own SB teams nobody would have been talking about them.

And then of course there is the VERY REAL possibility that if Young and Williams had remained Bucs the malaise of this losing franchise would have prevented them from reaching their potential.

Beckles is getting close to the precipice. Pride goes before the fall and he’s getting more and more full of manure.

If Jameis is on the team OF COURSE he’ll start!!! If he’s still on the team then the Glazers are putting it all on the line because it’s going to be a tough slog PR wise. The Glazers are not going to put all those chips on the table and then not play their hand….nor would I btw.

If we have Jameis he HAS to play. Even if we knew for a FACT that Fitz gave us a better chance of winning. You do not spend all the money, draft capital, time and tolerate the PR disaster to have Jameis ride the pine. That AIN’T happenin’.

And it’s not like Koetter has a choice. This decision will be made at a much higher pay grade than Koetter’s.

If Jameis is here he plays. It’s the only thing that makes sense. And for those who believe Jameis isn’t the real deal you should be happy as well as the Jameis lovers. Jameis gets a chance to prove which side is correct.

  23. Joe Says:

First don’t be so misdirected!!! Who cares what former Bucs have gone on to stardom anywhere else. So what.

Those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it.

  24. passthebuc Says:

    At Kobe
I will take 500 of that bet

  25. Buccan8 Says:

I didn’t realize that all references to monkeys were racist. Or is it because the monkey is allegedly drunk? Hang on—is it all primates or just monkeys? How interestingly ironic it would be if you mean all primates because they all look the same to you!

This may surprise some folks, but did you know that most people have whole conversations without ever thinking the other person might be racist! I found that out a few days ago and it blew my mind too….

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Surely, I can’t be the only person here who wants both of our Quarterbacks to succeed…..

Go Fitz….then Go Jameis……and Ryan Griffin, you can just GO!

  27. Darin Says:

I’m a Jameis fan(as far as his play). But if it will get Dirk out the door then Yes!!! Keep Fitz in all year! Man this clown Beckles talks too much. 2-1 Fitz. 3-10 Jameis. I know Beckles can do a little math. I dont get why people think the team is doomed without Jameis. The team is doomed without a greatly improved defense, with or without Jameis or Montana. Beckles has been alive almost as long as me, he has seen teams win super bowls with Dilfer and other guys worse than Fitz. Use all your brain Beckles, the info is in there!

  28. mark2001 Says:

Or Jameis can do a Johnny Manziel by grabbing another girl and start on zero other football teams other than the Bucs. Let’s hope he isn’t permanently affected and unable to change.

  29. mark2001 Says:

Obviously saying Manziel is an example of someone that can’t overcome their inner demons…not that he was charged with sexual assault..that I’m aware of.

  30. JMan5 Says:

    He’s no Marcus

  31. stpetebucsfan Says:

“Those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it.”

    Good one Joe! Well played.

But I suspect we see a different history. IMHO I don’t think Steve Young nor Doug Williams would have made the differnce…perhaps Williams because he was on one of the two excellent teams and D’s the Bucs have ever fielded.

I’m just not sure that having Young or Williams would have dramatically changed the Culverhouse effect. And in fact I think we’d be talking about both Williams and Young differently if they had remained Bucs because they wouldn’t have an SB.

  32. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “JAMEIS IS THE FUTURE. If he has a lousy season this year, then it’s possible he is gone. Despite the lack of wins (THANK YOU BUCS DEFENSE, THANK YOU KICKERS) Jameis’ numbers weren’t awful last year and perhaps the following has slipped people’s minds: JAMEIS WON 9 GAMES IN 2016. All of a sudden he’s a rotten quarterback?”

I hope that’s not your ‘bottom line’ Joe, because there’s a couple things wrong with that view of Jameis & the Bucs. For starters, Jameis MAY be the future, we don’t know at this point (you even admit that in the next sentence). And then mentioning ONLY the defense & kickers for Jameis’ lack of wins? Not a word about HIS own turnover issues, among other problems. And I love that “JAMEIS won 9 games in 2016”. Not that the TEAM won 9 games in 2016, but that JAMEIS won 9 games in 2016. Awesome! Not even a ‘Thank you DEFENSE’ for the 14-5 win against the Seahawks or the 16-11 win against the Saints that year. Love it when the media is totally impartial. Oh but wait, I forgot: JBF stands for ‘JAMEIS BE FABULOUS’.

@Joe … “Those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it.” Yea verily. But it applies to EVERYONE Joe, not just to the supposed Jameis-haters or to those others who blindly support Jameis despite his faux pas.

  33. Joe Says:

not that he was charged with sexual assault..that I’m aware of.

He only ruptured the eardrum of his girlfriend.

  34. LongSeason Says:

No doubt that Jameis has the talent on the field. The problem is his 10 cent head off the field. Winston’s coaches pre-NFL protected him from any real punitive action when he did wrong so he could become the bast athlete. This was at the cost of helping him become a great person. I don’t know if this leopard can change his spots for plaid. I do know my heart broke when I found out that he lied. The nature of what he did makes it difficult to root for him as a player. I just hope the victims can get over what he did to them and that Winston becomes a better man, a good man.

  35. Old Sombrero Kid Says:

just because you’re the number one pick doesn’t mean you can be the number one prick

  36. Roy T. Buford Says:

I put a lot of stock into a mediorcre career player, struggling radio personallity, who gets arrested being drunk and disorderly and messing with a horse as a middle aged dude. Not.

  37. mark2001 Says:

Manziel Assault and Battery vs. Jameis commish alleged Sexual Assault; I’m not trying to compare unacceptable behavior. I’m just pointing out there are a variety of “inner demons”. Some can conquer them and some can’t.

  38. 813bucboi Says:

I didn’t realize that all references to monkeys were racist.

they are when your comparing a monkey to a black man…..

did you know folks don’t have conversations with people because they assume they’re a racist…..

  39. 75buc Says:

I like part about cutting Licht and getting rid of Koetter

  40. K_Bassuka Says:

I have to agree with Mr. Beckles on this one even though I don’t agree with him on our alleged backup QB. Fitzpatrick it’s a terrible backup.

  41. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Man Beckles Got y’all talking all kinds of crazy mess!!! Drunk Monkeys, firing Jamies, entire.Coaching Staff, promoting Smith to Head Coach…..MAN! Hope Jamies does end up in a Saints Uniform. That would get us out of the cellar of the NFC South!!! But for real Jamies isn’t going anywhere unless the GM Koetter, Smith are released and replaced by others that DO NOT want the circus that is going to follow Jamies!! Should they select a Quarterback to replace Jamies and make JW3 their backup the Bucs will continue to be irrelevant!!! Jamies is not the answer to the Bucs woes!!! I do believe by moving on from Winston is the ONLY answer to right the Bucs Ship. We need to sign a standing heart covering Kapernick or a Teddy Bridgewater, Nick Foles to play these first 3 games to go 3 & 0 or 2 & 1 for the Bucs to have a chance to make the playoffs!!! JW3 is not the answer to the Bucs woes!!!!

  42. BUDDY Says:

Beckles is right. Personally, no I don’t care about Mr. Winston’s off field life.

That’s his problem and I’m sure if the LAW and or the NFL decides that it needs to be more then THEY will. Or for that matter if he doesn’t perform then the Glazer’s will certainly replace him.

Personally it doesn’t change a thing AT ALL for me. I am not part of ANY movement (i.e. me too or whatever is trendy at any given time) “EXCEPT the movement of WINNING PERCENTAGES from the quarterback “ON THE FIELD” That is my concern.

I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THROWING AWAY our best shot at winning games. IF ANYTHING this team needs to stop doing just that! Throwing away a future. Throwing away my happiness and yours. I’m NOT okay with that.

Hell, I’m having a hard time finding guys we have THROWN AWAY that doesn’t end up in Super Bowls and year after year Playoffs! WT???

I got a feeling we are a little too sensitive around here.

I don’t get it??? One minute half of you want to throw away GMC because he’s “To Soft”. Some of you guys mention “choir boy”. What you don’t seem to get is that, THAT’S EXACTLY what many of you people are asking for!

Do you want a soft, choir boy or do you want hard core winner of which Mr. Winston certainly WILL BE ON THAT FIELD in time?”

THIS IS FOOTBALL!!!! Get that? They are aggressive! That’s the nature of it and that’s the way it is. I think you probably would be better suited going ahead and getting that through your heads.

And let’s be PERFECTLY HONEST. Probably half of them would be in jail if it weren’t for football!

Not little timid chicks trying to advocate for the me too movement in football! I’m sorry but that’s the DEFINITION of the pussifacation of America!

    Football IS………………………..

You see, now that’s what I’m looking for from the players on the team I support. That’s Right

It is INDEED irrelevant what you either ladies, or sex changers, or others want it to be. THIS IS FOOTBALL and not the girl scouts. O SORRY, I FORGOT THERE IS NO MORE GIRL SCOUTS. “ME TOO” HAVE FORCE THEM INTO THE BOYSCOUTS!!!

Makes me sick!! Stop being a bunch of Pissies!!! Grow a pair and Shut Up!

  43. Trench War Says:

jameisnot wrote, “Do keep in mind that he did go to Free Shoes University, where a drunk monkey could get a degree”

Please explain to me where he referred Jameis to a monkey?

He said “a drunk monkey could get a degree”’s a damn metaphor

He did not say “Jameis the drunk monkey”

..a drunk monkey is well, a damn monkey

What he was describing is that “stupid” people (black, white, purple, green) can get a degree at free shoes university.

Now, where I don’t agree with that statement, it was in no-way racist.

So stop the manufactured race baiting’s b.s.

  44. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

For once, Ian Beckles has a point.

  45. Buccaneer scotty Says:

Are you dating beckles or is he got something on your? Or are you in love?

  46. RustyRhinos Says:

@ Joe “Those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it.”
If you truly believe this then you might want to rethink your praise of Mr. Winston, without looking into his past. We are experiencing some of that doomed repeatedness now.

  47. BrianBucs Says:

    Exactly. Good Call

  48. stpetebucsfan Says:

You may not care about Jameis personal life but as a Buc’s fan you have certainly been scrwd by it!

This mess is not simply going to disappear…at least in 2018 and for Rapelisberger five years later he’s still hearing it.

And so in addition to being a total failure in our first three games…can’t succeed if you can’t even stay on the field…there is the issue of trust going forward.d

It’s not about grabbing Kate…it’s about taking a dump on the Bucs, management, fans, and teammates. 3AM drinking adventures with the guy who was your main witness in your own rape investigation and then top it off with a CONVICTED RAPIST. Jamies simply CANNOT hang with those kind of guys.

  49. JameisNOT Says:

@bucboi: would I be a racist if I were a man of color (Indian) married to an African American woman. As usual, you are wrong again. Coward.

  50. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Don’t you realize the any reference to the word monkey is now considered racist by some…..

For example: The old saying….”you can teach a monkey to wield a hammer but you can’t teach him to show up on time”….

Comments like that are now considered racist remarks. It’s a very sensitive world we now live in.

  51. 813bucboi Says:

if you cant “read between the lines” then that’s your problem…..I know exactly what that prick meant……

  52. 813bucboi Says:

being married to a black woman means nothing……plenty of racist white(indian) men have married outside their race…..

I would tell your wife to “get out” and stay woke with comments like that…..

    racist chump….

  53. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ St. Pete

Sometimes when you hang with the wrong crowd enough….you are the wrong crowd.

  54. BigMacAttack Says:

Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl. Fitz will be just fine. I seriously think Koetter is in good shape, if he just learns from his mistakes. I wanted him gone but they kept him and I think the Bucs need to build on what they have.

  55. BigMacAttack Says:

Why can’t guys drop the racist claims and politics here?

  56. Maze Says:

    The drunk monkey 🤣

  57. BuccYa Says:

Defense Rules for the win. I happen to agree with your comments on this site 98% of the time.

Like Ira said in his Tuesday podcast, they went on a 5 game win streak because of the defense. Those wins we’re defintly not all on Jameis’ back. He did contribute to those wins by cutting down on his turnovers and not forcing the ball though ( credit where its due )

  58. JameisNOT Says:

@813bucboi: If we could only turn back the clock to have your father pull out….. we would not have to read your garbage.

  59. 813bucboi Says:

if only you and your parents stayed in india, we would be able to live without fear…..

    tell your wife to”stay woke”…..

  60. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Can’t we all just get along?

  61. stpetebucsfan Says:

I’m sure Darby and Banks would agree with that. LOL

  62. BUDDY Says:

    Hey Duc fan lady,

I “AM” THE WRONG TYPE! I won’t be going to your tupperware parties honey!

This sport is for the strong and the little buttercups of the world will have to deal with what we got like the rest of us. You are such a pompous, whinny little princess.

Honey, you and the ME TOO movement are not welcome by strong men.

You are such a back biting sissy.

I HAVE SOME MORE BAD NEWS FOR YOU HONEY, WINSTON IS GONNA PLAY! And there isn’t anything you or the other ice cream fella’s are going to do about it.

What are you going to do about? huh? NOTHING!
What are you gonna do? NOTHING!
YOU GOT nothing. “Except BACK BITING FASCISM! You think you’re going to shame me. HA HA HA HA HA HA.

You are my new favorite object. I think it’s time FOR YOU to enjoy a little FASCISM honey

And I suggest “back bitter” (so brave behind that keyboard taking cheep shots at other peoples views) it would be wise to remember that you should NOT forget THAT I AM INDEED THE WRONG TYPE!

Oh yeah, St PETE “MAN UP!” Tired of hearing you cry to! GROW UP!

  63. BUDDY Says:

Duc fan acting like he hasn’t been stabbing backs and cutting throats ALL DAY EVERYDAY. You don’t get along so after you have bloviated on anything I have to say, I want it clear! You and me aren’t going to “Get ALONG” FASCIST!

  64. BucEmUp Says:

Patriots went 0 and 3 with three different qbs and an average defense….no Brady.

Problem that nobody wants to talk about is the defense …..worst in the league. I think that should be concern number 1 followed by who the qb will be.

    Fire Mike Smith

  65. BoJim Says:

‘When Jameis goes on to NFL stardom and success wearing another team’s uniform, those who championed his exit can spend those dark losing fall Sundays comparing Eagle Scout medals with Mark Dominik.’

  66. Winston is overrated Says:

Look at all these FSU losers!!

  67. tgreg Says:

    Joe knows QBs LOL

    Where is Johnny Football? Freeman?

  68. JameisNOT Says:

@813bucboi: that actually made me laugh. But truly depicts your ignorance, as you are clearly meant out northern neighbors…Pakistan. Get your geography straight dumb as a bag of hammers fool. And regarding the wife staying awake, the goats tend to keep her up at night.
