Ex-Giants Head Coach Says Team Made Right Move Trading Jason Pierre-Paul

July 13th, 2018

General manager Jason Licht

It is interviews like this that have Joe longing for Lovie Smith to break his Bucs silence.

Oh, well, Joe supposes Lovie is too busy leading one of the worst teams in major college football. The University of Illinois squad is 5-19 under his watch. Or Lovie remains too stunned that he was fired after his defense got much worse after he took it over.

Former Giants head coach Ben McAdoo, however, has spoken out about his old team. Fired last year after being hailed as a near genius during the Giants’ 2016 season that saw them go 11-5 and make the playoffs with a 39-year-old chief, McAdoo talked to the New York Post yesterday about his old team.

Unlike Lovie, McAdoo seems to have great affection for his ex-club and believes they’ll be NFC East champs this season. Of interest to Bucs fans, McAdoo blessed the Giants’ moving on from new Bucs defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul.

The signing of left tackle Nate Solder was needed and made out of desperation, but the high price tag ($62 million) shows the flaw in acquiring talent in free agency, McAdoo said. And relying on Ereck Flowers to transition from left to right tackle is risky business.

“Getting a left tackle in there will help them in a lot of ways,” McAdoo said of Solder. “I don’t think he’s a very good player, but I think it will help them in a lot of ways where they needed help in that room in the past and they haven’t had anyone to do that.

“It was good they could get rid of [defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul’s] salary. I guess you kind of just flipped JPP for Solder, and I think that’s a good move, really.”

Well, Joe would feel better today if McAdoo said the Giants blew it by trading Pierre-Paul to the Bucs. But that’s ok. The Bucs were desperate and got a good player.

Regarding 30-year-old Solder, who has never made a Pro Bowl, Bucs fans should pay attention. The gargantuan contract Solder got is exactly what Donovan Smith will want after this season when he’ll still be just 25 years old.

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  2. 813bucboi Says:

    *bucs

  3. WestminsterCoBucsFan Says:

The giants need solder more than jpp, the same way the bucs need jpp more than a 3rd rounder this year. Everybody wins

  4. webster Says:

He said jpp was a salary dump not that jpp is a bad player. As usual joe is trying to make a story where there is not one.

  5. miken Says:

The Gmen are desperate for an LT, just like we are desperate for a pass rusher. Probably works for both teams.

  6. WestminsterCoBucsFan Says:

    *Everybody wins except Ayers

  7. The Buc Realist Says:

Who knows Joe, Maybe the Incompetent one did speak, But he is such a classless, losing, buffoon of a coach, that no one cared to come and listen!!!!!!! That clown shoe of a coach loser smith could not even cut it in high school football!!!!! Why was loser lovie fired on a Friday????? Cause that is when they pick up the “trash”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. AHBuc Says:

The Bucs are defeated in FA DE acquisitions. 0 for 100 now? Here’s a trend to this demise…. older FA’s who’ve made money and it’s time for Bora Bora.

  9. Lord Cornelius Says:

meh I agree with him if you’re looking strictly at what the Giants needed most.

Their O-line + Eli has killed the team lately. Their D-line / defense in general has not been the problem.

And he’s talking about the need to get rid of JPP’s salary so they could upgrade their O-line. So I’d agree. LT = premium position like DE and they needed it a lot more than DE at this point

  10. Lamarcus Says:

    Chris Baker 2.0

  11. Doctor Stroud Says:

Over the years, Tom Brady has made a lot of players, coaches, and GMs look like geniuses. Nate Solder certainly benefited because Brady got rid of the football at the right time.

    “Lamarcus Says:

    Chris Baker 2.0”

Great comparison if it wasn’t absolutely terrible

  13. Marc Says:

Excuse me, but Macadon’t is a laughing stock! Who cases what he thinks?! Ha!

  14. Dooshlarue Says:

Donovan Smith can keep on dreaming Joe!
What, if any draft compensation would we receive if we let him walk?

  15. Jeremy in Cali Says:

At least he said it was a good salary move, not locker room cancer move! I think Buckner can whip him into shape

  16. Jeremy in Cali Says:

At least he said it was good salary move, not a locker room cancer move! I think Buckner will put him to good use.

  17. Bucsfan951 Says:

Is it just me or does this Mcadoo dude seem to be burning bridges? Didn’t he sit that same qb that lead them to an 11-5 record for Geno freaking Smith?!!! And he lost to our horrible bucs last year. I don’t put much stock into what he says 🤷🏻‍♂️

  18. BucJay Says:

Looks like Jason is growing devil horns in the picture.

  19. D-Rome Says:

McAdoo should never be given an opportunity to be on the sidelines in the NFL again.

That makes him a perfect candidate for him to be the next Bucs head coach!

  20. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Jpp will play less than 7 games. Gmc will play 4 games but actually productivity will be 2 qtrs per 8 played

  21. Kobe Faker Says:

“Next year the giants will still have a developing 3rd round pick on the cheap while the sheeps Bucs team releases 1 year rental JPP because gump has to overpay the free agent bucs players. The blind alligence to Forest Gump is mind boggling”

“I always knew Gump was stupid but amazingly the Bucs sheep is stupider”

    Kobe Faker

  22. Buchead5588 Says:

Idk why joe even wrote this up No news here I
M not listening to anyone who benched Eli Manning for Geno Smith then back to Eli after one game lol he’s a joke JPP will help his Bucs team turn the DLine around to be way better than last go Bucs

  23. WestminsterCoBucsFan Says:

A developing 3rd rounder won’t save his job when he’s on a 1 year deal.
Obviously had something to do with it.

  24. Bucsfan951 Says:

Kobe: who would you have taken with that third round pick? That way we can see what madden gm Kobe would’ve done.

  25. ndog Says:

Man isn’t sports supposed to be fun? Why does pretty much everyone that posts on this site just spew negativity? I mean if we do totally suck wont there be plenty of time to complain and cry then? I mean try to enjoy the perceived improvements now and if they don’t work out then lets rip em to shreds. I mean we went out and got a 2 proven starting DE’s and now we are supposed to be upset about that cause some loser who couldn’t win games with a two time Super Bowl winning QB says the Giants made a good move by getting rid of him. You have to be kidding me with you guys, you make everything a negative!!!!!!!!!! Try to enjoy life for like two seconds.

  26. Defense Rules Says:

ndog, I agree with ya 100%. Bucs have made some significant improvements to the T-E-A-M’s TALENT level this off-season, especially on the defensive side. Last year we couldn’t (1) pressure the QBs; or (2) stop the run when it counted. I haven’t been Jason Licht’s biggest fan, largely because he all but ignored the defense his first 4 years here. (That’s NOT how you build a balanced T-E-A-M IMO). BUT … he done good this off-season (I hope) in addressing our biggest needs (in BOTH FA & in the draft). Smitty’s got a Herculean task in front of him to get all of these new ‘pieces’ to gel from Day One, but that’s why he gets paid the big bucks.

I’m still ‘cautiously optimistic’ about this season, more-so because of the talent upgrades than anything. Jacksonville did it in a year with a similar approach, and so did New Orleans … both focused on upgrading their D-E-F-E-N-S-E and it paid off in both cases with playoff T-E-A-M-S. Jameis’ suspension obviously didn’t help or make things any easier, but MAYBE that’ll provide an additional incentive for the rest of this T-E-A-M to pull together even more. Only time will tell.

  27. WestminsterCoBucsFan Says:

With so many new players filling holes it’s hard to predict what will happen. I’m optimistic jameis can perform under the scrutiny, considering the last time he felt this much heat he won the hiesman. Hopefully this defense provides some shock value, Dirk would love nothing more than to leave New Orleans with a w against his buddy Sean Payton. Mike Smith isn’t trash either. How many of you were upset when he came back after 2016? I know I wasn’t

  28. Buc believer Says:

So we should be upset because a coach that was FIRED has something to say???…. let’s review this again. The dude was FIRED!!! That means he sucks! So what the F… do I even remotely care what he says??

  29. unbelievable Says:

Well with detailed insight and strong convictions like that, I can’t imagine why he was fired from his job… lol

    happy friday Bucs fans!

  30. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Who could really give a rats a$$ about a fired coach’s opinion on a deal…..not blaming Joe for bringing it to our attention…..at least it is something new…..but WGAF…..
We needed JPP…..they needed to clear cap…..deal done….we will see how it works out for the teams…..Maybe Lovie has a job for McAdoo.

  31. Jeffbuc Says:

They are switching to a 3-4 so of course it is a great deal for 4-3 defensive end. And a 3rd rounder for a pro bowl defensive end that fist are scheme is also a good deal. It was a win win for both teams. He did t say the bucs did bad.

  32. BucEmUp Says:

Macapoo is an idiot. The entire team hated him.

  33. Tampabaybucfan Says:

And with all the draft trades…..we still got our 3rd rounder back….plus 2, 2s

  34. Destinjohnny Says:

No reason why this squad can’t be 6-10

  35. webster Says:

    Hey kobe

The bucs had a thid round pick name cappa or did you forget? They also had 3 2nd round picks or did you forget. So the bucs giving up a 3rd rounder for jpp did not hurt them whatsoever. The bucs still have a 3rd rounder that will be developing as well. Thanks for playing

  36. Buccaneer scotty Says:

This whole team will get blown up this off season so who cares! This is a chump a@@ story! All he is saying is they needed a left tackle more

  37. stpetebucsfan Says:

    NDOG for the win!

Ndog read the comments that follow yours and you’ll be a little cheered. Most here echo your sentiments.

  38. JameisNOT Says:

I find it funny that the same clowns on this site was blasting me for saying that the Bucs got taken advantage of by the Gmen GM are now agreeing with the same comments from their ex head coach. Our GM is bush league and will be gone along with the entire coaching staff….along with the dumb as a bag of hammers Criminole JameISNOT.
