Ugly Prediction For 2018

June 11th, 2018

Chilling forecast.

Joe cannot envision this happening, not even after several beers.

We are almost into the prediction season, when almost everyone with a keyboard announces their picks before training camps get started in roughly six weeks. And Jonathan Jones of theMMQB.com is no different.

But Bucs fans better brace themselves before reading the following. Push aside all potential projectiles and sit down.

Jones expects the Bucs to finish with the worst record in the NFL this season, tied with Buffalo for the right to pick first overall in the 2019 draft.

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS: 2-13-1
The Bucs were one of the most disappointing teams last season after a solid offseason and plenty of hype (some of it by yours truly). Dirk Koetter got to keep his job even though his team took a gigantic step back in 2017 on both offense and defense. Tampa Bay desperately needed pass rush help and got it in Vita Vea and Jason Pierre-Paul. But the offense had no reason to struggle like it did in Jameis Winston’s third season. Tampa Bay has finished last in the division seven of the past nine seasons, and it looks to happen again in 2018.

Well, if this happens, Joe won’t be walking out on a plank to say there will be a housecleaning at One Buc Palace.

The only way Joe can fathom this happening is if Ronald Jones turns out to be just a warm body and America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is lost for the season early with a nasty injury.

    Now I’ve seen many negative outcomes……..but 2-13-1??????

That is 100% ridiculous…….they’re good for atleast 5 wins this season

  2. Lord Cornelius Says:

“But the offense had no reason to struggle like it did in Jameis Winston’s third season”

Yeah a hurt throwing shoulder is definitely not a reason for any struggles at all. Neither is having a bottom 3 run game; and bottom 5-10 run blocking unit.
Neither is having the worst K situation in the league.

I wonder how much this guy makes to write this sh1t.

  3. budbuc Says:

    Not Going to happen!

  4. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

Terrible prediction. Either this guy is a moron or he puts zero effort into his predictions. Most likely both

  5. Tnew Says:

I would bet any amount of money on the over. Any.

  6. Lord Cornelius Says:

In general this article is insane lol. Predicts a ton of 2-4 win teams – to the point that it’d be historical to see that many bad teams. Way more parity than that.

Broncos will win more than 4 games.
Colts with Luck will win way more than 4 games.
Bills will win more than 2 games just because of the division they play in alone. THey were in the playoffs last year… and I think McCaron is probably a better QB than Taylor; not to mention Josh Allen.

  7. Dewey Selmon Says:

I want to know who we tie, we’ve on ever had 1 vs Green Bay.

  8. The Buc Realist Says:

At least this guy knew that the Bucs had massive injuries on the defensive side last year!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Clodhopper Says:

Predict a tie? He might as well have predicted an asteroid. He should have had a caveat that said he put a little less than zero effort in this. Just throwing junk at the wall

  10. The Buc Realist Says:

For fun , I read a mock draft for 2019, and it had the Bucs drafting 5th and grabbing a Left Tackle!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. SCBucsFan Says:

    They have us tying Washington.

I would be shocked if that was our record at the end of the season and this blog would be an insane asylum.

  12. Ben the Ga Buc Says:

This is stupid. All these guys covering every possible prediction so someone gets to say “I told you so” at the end of the season.

No way the Bucs have this record at the end of the year.

  13. D-Rome Says:

    Totally confident, right guys?

That being said, it’s as if they didn’t actually watch the Bucs.

One thing’s for sure is that I have no reason to believe the Bucs will not be cellar dwellers this year and it has nothing to do with being negative. There’s no reason to believe any of the other teams in the division is going to have a down year. The Bucs are better and headed in the right direction in my opinion. They’ll win more than two games but I would not be surprised at 6-10.

  14. Seminole Bill Says:

2-13 is not far-fetched. We play in the toughest division in the league; call it 1-5 for division play. Even with a 5-5 record for the other 10 games, we are 6-10 overall. But 5-5 is best case. The more likely result is 3-7. Now we are at 4-12. And it doesn’t take much for 4-12 to slip to 2-13. Until our QB plays up to his potential we are at the bottom of the division.

  15. unbelievable Says:

    Agreed Jolly.

And I’m not trying to blindly sip the kool aid, but anyone who paid any remote attention saw there was a lot of elements at play last year that resulted in our disappointing season.

I can not see any reason why we would fare worse this year, unless basically everything that could go wrong, does go wrong.

This just sounds like a writer who listened to headlines and looked at records without actually watching any games or paying any attention to what happened with the team.

  16. ndog Says:

I said it before and I will say it again.

With the exact same offensive effort, even with a hurt QB and the worst Yards Per Carry RB in the league, if the defensive did not blow 4 leads and if we had a kicker this team is 10-6 last year.

So you mean to tell me with a healthy QB and competent RB (not great just around average) and a defense that has 3 new starters on the d line and a kicker that was actually wanted by other teams we are going to be worse?

    Ok…… We shall see 🙂

And oh yeah Seminole Bill again with nothing different on offensive last year if we had any defensive or a kicker we were 10-6 last year, but yeah the QB is the reason the record was what it was. SMH, try watching the games brother.

  17. Lord Cornelius Says:

Winston’s record in the NFC south is actually pretty solid and nowhere near a 1-5 or even 2-4 ratio. Much better than our record vs the division before he arrived at least. He’s 3-3 vs Brees; and we were 2-7 before that for example.

  18. dbagskarma Says:

Vita Vea is a pass rusher!? Wow this guy really really doesn’t know what he’s talking about but I do agree with the win totals he puts up. This team just isn’t good point blank.

  19. SOEbuc Says:

We win at least two of our six division games. Not winning another game outside that sounds pretty far fetched.

  20. Mike Johnson Says:

Again, this team Better hope JPP stays healthy. Curry is average and we know what we got after them. I still think we should gotten another good pass Rusher. I’m still sticking with 8-8 for now.

  21. Sick Of Losing Says:

    Good

I love it. I’m sick of losing and these dudes have been mentally weak for years. No more talk about them being a trendy pick to make the playoffs. They need to be beat down by the media and they deserve it. Hopefully this will light a fire under their collective ass and put a chip on their shoulder where it should be.

  22. Blue-footed booby Says:

Oh I can definitely see this kind of win-loss record incoming for our 2018 Buccaneers. Sorry, but I still don’t think the Bucs are better than 16th overall in the NFC, which of course would rank dead last in that loaded conference. Good news is, we won’t have to wait much longer until training camp starts so we can see how things play out.

  23. Bucsfanman Says:

Until proven otherwise, we are one of the losing-ist franchises in the NFL. It’s hard to get upset with a prediction like that when your team lives in the basement of their division year after year.

  24. Darin Says:

    Realist
Unless smith has a great season i think they will draft a LT in the 1st round. Thats how ya work the cap. Upgrade and pay less. We all hope its not at pick 5 tho.

  25. Lamarcus Says:

Means in that 9-7 season thier 5 game win streak was fluke. We are more the team outside of the win streak. So it can get ugly with this coaching staff

  26. William Walls Says:

This really makes me mad. I get paid just over minimum wage to write and edit for a living, and this guy has a decently-paying job? I sure am glad I put those projectiles away.

  27. BucTrooper Says:

The guy is predicting a tie versus the Redskins. If he can call that shot before pre-season, then maybe I’ll listen to him. I guess he has the Bucs beating the Browns and the Bears if I had to guess.

  28. stpetebucsfan Says:

This team has five wins in it even if Fitz started all 16 games. If Jameis is healthy….how big of an IF….this team wins ten easily.

There are simply too many good “ifs” that some of them have to come true especially after last year’s run of horrid luck.

What IF…Noah Spence stays healthy? What IF JPP is still the real deal. What IF the other signees round out a deep and talented DL. That makes our LB’s instantly better. It gives our crop of young DB’s a chance to survive.

We could have a really good defense. The IF’s on offense? Is ROJO the real deal? Will we really have a running game to set up Jameis and all those targets?

  29. Pickgrin Says:

    He’s only off by 7 or 8 wins…

Tough division/schedule be damned. This team has more than enough talent to win more games than they lose. I would be truly shocked at anything less than 8 wins in 2018.

  30. Anonymous Says:

Yea very weak prediction Does he put any effort into research? This team is minimum 5to 6 wins

  31. 813bucboi Says:

    I don’t see 2-14…..

but nothing surprises me with the bucs anymore…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  32. Kobe Faker Says:

    Kobe sees 4-12

we will lose to teams that have competent short passing attack and we will defeat teams that cant pass short and trys to run the ball

**huge problem is this method to beat us will be displayed and shown to all the teams by 3 of our opponents in Saints, philly and pitt

short passing attack before the rush gets close to the Qb. slants and crosses to the wrs and rb screens to cut us to pieces

0-3 start with recipe to defeat our defense …NFL is a copycat league

our corners and pass defense linebackers will be EXPOSED

how about our offense and Klueless?

Klueless will be Klueless…predicable playcalling playing close and not to lose

    Kobe Faker

***ONLY WAY WE WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS***

Both Brate and Djax or MEME goes down for the season with injury and

Kluless studies Kobe Fakers posts and run sthe offense thru Godwin and OJ Howard

  33. gambelero Says:

If we go 2-13-1, a total housecleaning will be in order. Pickgrin, NOSBOS, NFLNut, Lord, St.Pete, Defense, Realist, Ndog, MJ and I banned along with semi-colon users, alliterationist, infinitive splitters and anyone who routinely gets there, their and they’re right; Lee, Steve, Ira, Justin and Rock summarily fired and probably jailed; and Joe, himself, will get kicked out of his mom’s basement, permanently–or at least until the Bucs make the playoffs.

We all know that all the free agency hires, draft moves and UDFA signings were based on our collective recommendations. We can’t go, “We told you to release Doug Martin. We told you to stop signing locker room cancers like Swaggy Baker. And we told you to stop basing your strategic design of the roster on perennially injured guys (Sweezy and Spence) getting healthy.” This year they did everything we told them to. So, if it all falls apart, it’s on us.

  34. K2 Says:

Joe, Last year, the Bucs team lost to the Patriots with a score of 19 to 14. The Bucs should be a much better team this year. We should be happy the expectations are so low…because the players will be much more motivated.

  35. Louisfriend Says:

All of these horrible predictions are based on past performance. And until the Bucs prove otherwise who’s to say they aren’t right? Sorry, I can’t fault anyone for jumping on the hate bandwagon until the Bucs slam it back in their faces. And by the power of greyskull (He-Man dudes) – I hope they do.

  36. Lamarcus Says:

We are closer to 2-13-1 than 9-10 wins anyway.

  37. Skoorb Says:

    That guy sucks

  38. Destinjohnny Says:

    6-10

  39. Eric Says:

I say a minimum of 8 wins. Jameis picks up where he left off last year, which was excellent QB play.

somewhere in 7-9 and 9-7 land.

Which was previously enough to get a Hall of Fame and super bowl winning coach canned around here.

If I owned the team, unless I see a playoff game I am blowing it all up.

  40. Lord Cornelius Says:

    lmao gambelero

Last year was already a mind f*ck of a dissapointment compared to what I’ve expected most every other year recently. If we just win 2 games next year with this roster and specifically our QB just relatively healthy I’m re-evaluating my life and probably giving up on trying to understand football.

  41. feelthepewterpower Says:

Lmao…..this is all predicated on last year (last eight years, really) which has zilch to do with this year. How do these writers have jobs??

  42. Capt.Tim Says:

Its possible, because of two volatile factors.
The schedule, and a coaching staff that is under fire.

The schedule looks btutal. It will be very difficult, not to start the season 0-4.
A very good team could lose those first 4.
Say we go 0-4, and lose JPP and Grimes to Injury( God forbid)
Then its Curry and McCoy as our only Pass rushers
Ryan Smith and Carlton Davis are our CBs( VH3 and Steward are in the slot)

Now- who is our depth at DE? If we lose JPP, who backs up Curry? Who is our RDE. Who backs up Smith and Carlton?
And thats only 2 injuries. To two of our older Vets. And it would immediately show our lack of Depth.
Now, say Jensen gets hurt. Evan Smith in now a starter- no longer able to give our center and guards a breather.

Just 3 injuries, none to our star players- and already our lack of depth will cost us games
And this team is still a young team. At most key positions. At 0-4, the young guys begin trying to hard, and making mistakes.

And our Coaching staff is getting asked about getting fired- every day.
Koetter is a first time head coach. Our staff is going to start showing the stress in their play calling.
And the worst part. Any of our veterens arent going to help stay the course, because they’ve all been on horrible teams, and aren’t used to teams overcoming 0-4 starts.

I dont think 2-14 is possible. But if we start 0-4, I think it sends Jameis into a tail spin. He is great when calm, and a turn over machine when hes trying to hard.
We start 0-4, I think it would be hard to do better than 5-11.
A couple key injuries, and our lack of depth a several positions would be exposed.

I am hoping for a great season, But it could fall apart quickly. And with the
“Curse of the Buccaneers”, it ussually does.
Somewhere in OneBuc place, there must be some stolen Aztec gold.

  43. ndog Says:

Not that it means we will win these games but we are more talented than Chicago (just don’t see anything to be excited about), Cleveland (getting better just not enough yet), Cincy (Andy Dalton is there enough said), Washington (Bruce Allen is there enough said), NYG (QB is horrible and Oline might still be an issue), SF (no real threats at WR, running game still weak and secondary is still weak) Baltimore (no RB, WR and poor QB) and Dallas (lost best WR and TE).

Again I am not saying we win each of those games BUT we have a legit shot in all of them which is a minimum of 8 and we will more than likely win at least 2 in the division. For the record I think we are more talented overall than Pittsburgh but Big Ben, AB and Bell are tough to deal with and can go off at anytime.

  44. Eric Says:

If we make the playoffs then great but I doubt it. If we are gonna suck that bad, that automatically means to draft a quarterback with that #1 pick and after that Defensive end followed by Safety or RG. No way you give 30 mil a year to a guy that cant reach 10 wins and even worse 3 out of 4 years being losing seasons. To me it’s a win win situation! Winston will never be the guy some of you thought or wished he would be.

  45. Phil Says:

Damn and I was just getting ready to drive to Delaware to bet on the Bucs winning the Super Bowl this year.

  46. ndog Says:

Again Eric I will ask the question, please show us the QB in the history of football that won games with the worst defense in the league, the 27th best running game in the league and the 2nd worst kicker in the league? I will wait…..

  47. tnew Says:

For the team to win only 2 games, they would have to quit. If that was going to happen, last year was the exact perfect storm for that.

  48. mark2001 Says:

If that happens, we will draft a QB with the number one or two pick, and be hiring a new HC/ staff and GM. It may not be the fault of any one of the three. But to drop to 2-13-1 would turn over the apple cart for the entire organization.

  49. Gambelero Says:

    Great tradecraft, btw.

  50. Mike Johnson Says:

If this Bucs team wins less than 8 games this upcoming year? I say hire Clint Eastwood. He can take Koetter and his road-Dog Smitty and ..Hang’em High!!!
Then start the 2019 season anew with the next crop of coaches.

  51. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Since we will destroy NO in game one….that would mean we go 1-13-1 the rest of the season……simply not happening.

I guess we will be underdogs……

  52. Defense Rules Says:

The fun part about the NFL is that teams have to actually PLAY the games. Predictions don’t mean diddly. Whether the Bucs finish 2-13-1 or 13-2-1 is anyone’s guess at this point in the season. Like Pickgrin said, injuries will play a HUGE role, for other teams as well as for us (probably more-so for us because we still lack depth in several position groups). Plus we’re still developing chemistry (lots of new players who’ll hopefully play major roles for us this year).

A critical factor will be how well Dirk & Smitty have ‘learned’ from last year’s performance (or lack of it). Offensively we should move the ball even better this year (and we moved it pretty good last year), but the name of the game is POINTS SCORED (don’t tell Joe BTW). Dirk needs to figure out how to get the ball across the goal-line … period. Defensively we should have a better pass rush AND be able to stop the run better, but that’s only about half the battle. I agree with Kobe that if the Bucs’ defense doesn’t find a way to stop the short passing game we’ll get our lunch handed to us more times than not. IMO, that’ll take much better play from the LBs as well as the Secondary, not to mention much better defensive play-calling & communicating.

  53. JWBUCS Says:

I have great hope in a dramatic defensive game improvement, with significant expectations from Brentson Buckner and the additions to the D-line. We need some luck keeping guys free of serious injury and we see a very big turnaround in 2018.

  54. Ronteco Says:

Haven’t been to this site in a while. But I see the new language we are using now for Winston is that he had a “hurt shoulder” last year. Really? Is that what we are doing now folks. Every time I leave and come back to this site, folks have a different excuse for this guy. Just stop guys. It’s embarassing to see Bucs fans make all these different excuses for him. This year (should’ve been last year) he needs to step to the next level. If not, this is all you get out of Winston. Sub par trash.

  55. BucEmUp Says:

I really get a kick out of everyone who actually believes that the offense was the problem. There isn’t a chance in hell that you give any other team our defense and they make the playoffs.

There is only one thing putting our offense in a corners and forcing them to fight their way out of it….and that THING is Mike Smith.

Pathetic that this is still the same staff in place going into his third year but hey, thats what friends are for right??!!???? Way to go Dirky!!!!!

  56. BrianBucs Says:

ESPN still has the Bucs over/under for wins at 6.5 I’m going to be optimistic and take the over. If the under comes to fruition, there will and should be a major housecleaning at One Buc

  57. Chrisco4Bucs Says:

This guy is a F’ing idiot, I think 10-6 at the worst

  58. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

4-12 or 11-5 if McCoy gets hurt early enough and goes on ir

  59. Trench War Says:

To predict only 2 wins with all the new players added clearly says that Jonathan Jones has no faith in our QB. Screw him 🙁

  60. James Walker Says:

Anything less than 7 wins is death for our franchise and we can expect at least another 3-5 years of losing seasons.

  61. Not there yet Says:

The offense had no reason to struggle and it looks like it’s going to happen again? No wonder very few people read that trash….whether you’re picking us to win12 games and make a deep playoff run or picking us to be the first pick in the draft…….it’s June so take that Crystal ball you tucked away in your rectum while at big lots and replace it with a wrecking ball going full speed as you bend over for impact.

No one ever comes out and admits how stupid their prediction was…..Joe’s will usually say an article like this is from a guy that they respect which means this guy is a nobody and now I see why

  62. Ed Kerber Says:

All the Bucs need is one veteran CB and health. 9-7

  63. Pawel Says:

If I see this predictor, I will slap him!

  64. Jaycee Says:

Wow! Between this guy and Pro Football Focus scribe, there is enough tinder wood to start a blaze inside the belly of Winston. Man, look out. I won’t count Winston or the Bucs out.

  65. Richie Says:

Vegas has the bucs over- under at 6.5. SO TELL MMQB TO SUCK IT!!!!

  66. Lionel Says:

It’s cool y’all let us be the underdogs this year..we should alll go to Vegas and place the bets..we can get rich off this baffoonery

  67. Buccaneer scotty Says:

    Wow !

  68. USMC-BUC Says:

We have been the 2nd worst team in the NFL over the past 15 years. Why can’t you see us being the worst team in the league this season? we have done it multiple times over the past decade.

Chances of us being in the bottom 10, are 90+ Percent if not higher. One or two injuries and we are easily the worst team.

  69. Herb Says:

I have the Bucs going 4 – 12 but this guys prediction might be better. The real bet should be…will Dirk Koetter get fired before the season is over?

  70. Curse of Gruden Says:

Did Swaggy Baker high-jack Jones’ account and type this propaganda?

  71. passthebuc Says:

I’ll take that bet. It sounds like Jones is writing for effect. You know the type, has not a lot to say so when he does it must be outlandish or no one will read.
I say, he should put his money where his mouth is and I’ll take 10K of it.

  72. Wesley Says:

    I mean it could happen.
