“If There’s A Dial We Can Turn Another Notch, We’re Turning It Another Notch.”

June 5th, 2018

Go inside One Buc Palace

Urgency. Urgency. Urgency.

It’s a pulsating theme through One Buc Palace, and linebackers coach Mark Duffner painted a picture for Joe and the Sage of Tampa Bay Sports, Ira Kaufman.

Duffner, if you missed it, joined the stunningly popular Ira Kaufman Podcast a few of weeks ago. He hit on many topics.

One questioned he answered was what fans should know about Dirk Koetter and the command he has over his team.

“What fans can I hope see is that during the course of the season when things weren’t going so well, this team still continued to play hard and complete. And so the players I think truly believe in Dirk,” Duffner said. “Dirk’s got a great way to connect with them. I think they understand that basically he is with them through thick and thin. And I think they’ve done the same coming back. And that’s how any great team organization is; you’ve got to have a we mentality and [be] kind of arm-and-arm and hand-and-hand with that.

“He’s been I think I’d say relentless and extremely determined to leave no stone unturned in terms of every area of the program, how we’ve got to make sure we’re being the best in terms of connecting with our players, making sure that everything is t’s crossed and i’s dotted in terms of details. So that we put our players in the very best position to be successful, whether it be in the meeting room the way we present, whether it be in practice with the drills that we’re doing, that everything has application to allow each player to reach their zenith and get better and better. So there’s been a real, not that it wasn’t before, I can’t say that this is really change. But I’d say if there’s anything, if there’s a dial we can turn another notch, we’re turning it another notch.”

Yes, the Bucs are cranking it up. Rightfully so.

They simply cannot roll into the Week 5 bye with a 1-3 record, even if America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, is suspended for opening day, which Joe’s intelligence says is a likely scenario.

It was great to hear from highly-regarded Duffner, an honorable coach in his 44th season, that Koetter is all over every last detail.

Duffner also added that Koetter commands respect among players, primarily via his communication style.

“They respect him highly because he’s directly honest. There’s no BS to him,” Duffner said.

There’s no BS to Joe, either. It’s time to beat a few good teams and get this team back to good/respectable.

    6-10

  2. Darin Says:

A destin prediction before camp? First I wana see if Dirk and smitty truly learned anything last season. This team has a bunch of good players. All depends on the staff. 4-12 to 12-4. Could be anywhere in between. Or not between. If they come out and run the same offense and defense with same tendencies 6-10 sounds right. I sure am hopeful the coaching staff shows major improvement tho.

  3. Trench War Says:

I predict because of the do or die scenario the Buc’s will reach at least an 8-8 record.

  4. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

All sounds great until the pansy arse defense led by gmc gets hit in the mouth week 1 then folds like a cheap lawn chair.

Same bs every year and every year they end protecting buccaneer cove the nfc south basement.

  5. mizzle Says:

DUDE givee it up already. Jameis is not going to be suspended!! Stop writing click bait articles

  6. Not there yet Says:

If you overhaul your front lines and as pass rushers like we did but the team plays exactly like last year then who is to blame? Didn’t hear many people saying same bs every year when they almost made the playoffs. Make sure to tell Clinton McDonald, Robert Ayers and Chris baker they are pansies game 1 against New Orleans…..oh wait that’s right they are gone along with Doug Martin….lot of weakminded fans afraid of expectations in this city.

I expect this team to compete I expect them to play big this year but will they? Cautiously optimistic yes but won’t act like this is the same 2017 defense either

  7. Lamarcus Says:

Under Koetter we will blow out the opponent week 1 and lay the biggest egg week 2 and see ourselves. 1-5 or 2-4 territory before we go on streak and endure consecutive losing streaks in the same seasons….. This is what been demonstrated the time with Koetter

  8. Joe Says:

    Two things Mizzle:

Do you speak with the same people in the NFL that Joe does?

Joe isn’t about to begin writing articles few if any want to read. There is a glut of writers in the area that have that market well cornered.

Joe *hopes* Jameis isn’t suspended. Joe wouldn’t bet a nickel on that though.

  9. Pryda... sec147 Says:

I think we can shock the league we just need to stay healthy and grind hard

  10. Jeff Says:

Just can’t see how JW is only suspended for 1 game. The me too movement and the PC police will not accept a single game suspension. Going to be more game for the optics.

  11. Reality_43 Says:

Grind and Hard should never be used in the same sentence in reference to Football I think. 🙂

  12. 813bucboi Says:

1.) I applaud joe for not giving this team a “pass” if Winston has to sit…..this staff has known for far to long about this situation….they should have a plan in place and should be able to weather the storm…..no excuses…..

2.) im not buying the whole “dirk has learned” notion…..what has dirk done that shows he’s learned?….not a damn thing…..he said he’ll conduct the same soft TC as last year……he’ll still be calling plays…..pressures on the coaches….

like many others, im in wait and see mode…..i’ll make a prediction after week4….that’s normally when the real bucs come to town…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  14. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Suspending jameis is a no brainer for league. Makes nfl look like social justice warriors while
Not affecting the league. Glazers and Tampa have never and will never matter. Small market, small fan base, bad ratings and the inability to fill stadium with thier own fans. Owners carry no weight with nfl.

  15. Eric Says:

Played hard by going 1-5 last six games.

    Oh joy.

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, is suspended for opening day, which Joe’s intelligence says is a likely scenario.

There is something quite dissonant about America’s QB, suspension & intelligence used in the same sentence…..

  17. Bucsfanman Says:

Beat the team in front of you. If your expectations are any less, they’ve already won.
There are no excuses for this team, plain and simple.

  18. Rayjay1122 Says:

I turned the volume up on my stereo a notch….. wasn’t much change.

  19. Anonymous Says:

    7-9

  20. BucTooth Says:

    7-9

  21. Casey Morgan Says:

Joe– there will be no suspension. Nationally it is not a story. There is no outrage on social media. No one is pushing for discipline except you…

  22. unbelievable Says:

And tmax-is-a-beotch’s unhealthy obsession with GMC continues. Never change bro, never change 😉

Hey J0e- it looks like the comment fields are working normal / auto populated again! Good job, such a better experience.

    👏👏👏

  23. Capt.Tim Says:

    Yay Joes tech guy!

    Urgency smergency

    You are losers.
    Shut up
    Win games.
    Then speak

  24. John5 Says:

I liked listening to Duffner speak on that podcast. That guy has a lot of wisdom. He had a really great take and perspective on so many things. I think Koetter and the rest of the coaches could learn a thing or two from him.

  25. Blue-footed booby Says:

1-15. No really, I do think 1-15 is a realistic outlook for this season. Somebody out in the NFL has to be terrible enough to get the worst record in the league and we know teams like the Patriots, Packers, and Steelers won’t be that bad. Reading the postgame threads on JBF will be entertaining to say the least.

  26. Dave Pear Says:

    Blue-footed booby,

    Question.
    Are you a Buc Fan?
Because you just come across as a total jerk.

  27. Defense Rules Says:

@Eric … “Played hard by going 1-5 last six games. Oh joy.” Reasons, not excuses, are important when trying to change a culture Eric. Yes the Bucs lost 5 in a row before closing out the season with a win against New Orleans. That losing streak started against the Falcons in their house with Fitz at the helm … and we got throttled by 14 pts. Then came the Packers in their house with Jameis back in … Bucs played them tough but lost in overtime by 6 pts. Then 3 more losses … by just 3 pts each … to the Lions, Falcons (again) & Panthers.

The reasons for the losses after the Falcons loss to start it off? Defense hit their average … 24 POINTS ALLOWED average in the last 5 games (AND each game was within 2 pts of that, so at least they were consistent). Offense also hit their average in 4 of the last 5 games (20-21 PPG) … and in the one game they scored big in (31 pts against the Saints) Bucs came away with the W. Too many turnovers on offense in that 6-game stretch (13) and too little ‘hold the line’ on defense in that stretch, both in the 4th qtr AND in terms of total yardage (average of 369 yds/game allowed). And in 3 of those games Bucs allowed 150-200 yds rushing, which killed us. Bucs addressed that problem this off-season, as well as (hopefully) the pass rush problem. If our offense can solve their scoring riddle and tack on 3-5 more PPG, we can end up with a winning record.

  28. Anonymous Says:

They’ve been playing at 10 this whole time not knowing the dial goes to 11

  29. BucEmUp Says:

Any news on Ryan Griffin? Is he even on the roster anymore?

  30. Clodhopper Says:

No one at One Buc ever saw Spinal Tap? Quit playing on ten!! Eleven is one better

  31. Roadwarrior Says:

If there’s an investigation and nothing is found then he shouldn’t be suspended
I don’t care what the public thinks or what the me too movement thinks. Tough sh!t we don’t need to start punishing people just to make some group of pissed off politically correct people happy. What ever happened to actually being guilty. This crap is getting out of hand.
