Jameis “Nuked” Bucs Season

June 26th, 2018

Torpedoed season?

Joe’s good friend Jason McIntyre, lord of TheBigLead.com is not one to hold back his opinions. It’s why he can be seen on various arguing shows on FS1 and has his own Saturday morning radio show on FOX Sports Radio.

In McIntyre’s eyes, it’s time for the Bucs to start worrying about the draft. The Bucs this season don’t have to wait until their normal date where it is good to start talking draft — Halloween.

No, McIntyre said, draft talk for 2019 should start now for the Bucs. Why? Because the season is finished before it got started. Why? In so many words, McIntyre said, #BlameJameis.

“Listen, when an NFL team’s season is nuked in June because its quarterback is toast. I think that is a massive story,” McIntyre explained to his national audience on Saturday as to why he was talking Bucs football in June. “Jameis Winston and the Bucs’ 2018 season is over. Close the book. That’s a wrap. I’m being serious. Jameis Winston suspended for three games. And I know you have some strong opinions on Jameis Winston and how he hasn’t gotten Tampa to the playoffs. A quick minor defense of Jameis Winston and I don’t defend this clown for a lot of stuff he does. But he is in arguably the best division in the NFL. All the other three teams in the NFC South made the playoffs last year.

“Jameis Winston is a good quarterback but he has a lot to learn. He’s not a top-ten, probably not a top-15 quarterback. But in his division he has two NFL MVPs and a Super Bowl MVP, OK? NFL Hall of Fame is the hardest Hall of Fame to make. I could make an argument he is in a division with three [quarterbacks] who are going to be in the Hall of Fame. It is not easy to get to the playoffs that way.

“That being said, their season is over. … Good luck getting a win [during Jameis’ suspension], Tampa. I am telling you their season is over. … The NFC is loaded beyond belief. There are nine [NFC] teams better than the Bucs. My gosh, the Bucs are done. Imagine being a Tampa fan and knowing your season is over in June? My gosh.”

McIntyre went on to say that while he thinks Jameis is a capable quarterback, he’d take Jimmy GQ over Jameis in a heartbeat “right now.”

Why is McIntyre so adamant the Bucs’ season is toast? Well, McIntyre, a rabid Jets fan, thinks just about any quarterback trying out for the AAF would be a better option than Ryan Fitzpatrick. Thus, the Bucs will start the season 0-3 and will be toast.

Since 1980, only five teams that started 0-3 have made the playoffs. One is the Bucs in 1982, but that was a strike-shortened season. The last team to pull this off was Buffalo in 1998. In that same time frame, 172 teams started 0-3. So that sort of gives the chances of the Bucs making the playoffs starting 0-3 at 2.9 percent. And that doesn’t factor in the brutal NFC South.

So the task is simple. Fitz has to somehow find a way to steal a win. Good luck at the Saints and hosting the Eagles and Steelers.

  1. Sweeptheleg Says:

    Well he’s not wrong.

Playoffs were extremely slim even with Winston.

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

I don’t know how Jameis can show his face in the locker-room. Every other positional player plays a physical game of football every snap where their career and livelihood could end in injury….

  3. Pete I Says:

8-8 was slim with Winston. Nothing he says seems to be inaccurate.

  4. firethecannons Says:

I personally think the Steelers and the Saints are winnable games. By the time we play Steelers our d line and dbacks should be meshing and honestly I think defense will be a strength this year. We need to run the ball a ton!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe we can do it-we can be competitive for sure. Saints don’t have the RB Ingram-that helps. Last year Jags defense intercepted Rothlisberger 5 times. It is all about the defense.

  5. Buc believer Says:

What an idiot! Ya OK Bucs let’s just forfeit the games and stay home. Hell let’s just forfeit the season for that matter and have the Glazers return all of the money the season ticket holders sent in in February….. NO wait that won’t work right Glazer boys? Oh Okay NFL kick our heads in what else is new?

  6. Defense Rules Says:

@firethecannons … “It is all about the defense.” Aah yes, music to my ears. Bucs’ defense has ALWAYS been the strength of the Bucs. When the defense was lousy, the team has been lousy. When it’s been strong, Bucs have done reasonably well. This year is no exception. IF the defense does well, the team will do well & McIntyre can eat his words. IF our defense does poorly, McIntyre is right on: we’ll ‘be toast’.

I’m betting that this Bucs’ defense will be a Top-15 defense this year in POINTS ALLOWED, maybe even Top-10. Bucs’ offense might have to carry them for a few games until they can get the new ‘pieces’ to gel, but it’ll happen.

  7. D-Rome Says:

    Totally confident, right guys?

  8. Pete I Says:

Well the defense has one thing going for it in those 3 games, they won’t have JW turning the ball over.

  9. Bird Says:

Wow his take on Jameis is spot on …good qb- yes Not top ten, probably not top 15-yes. Clown?- maybe a little harsh… liar- yes

Yet , here we are …this was the season for Jameis to take the next step and I thought he would have his best season. Still could but gonna be tough. So many distractions for him. Will his teammates really support him and not fakely thru social media. Huge bucs fan from Orlando who is season ticket holder. Keeping my fingers crossed. Fitz makes me nervous but so does Jameis Let’s hope there is to much talent on offense that I could score enough points on offesen if given the chance at qb. Bucs defense will be key.

Jameis only moves the needle for the journalists on this website.

  10. Rob Says:

Jameis will not survive this and eventually take the Buccaneers to the promised land of the playoffs. Jameis didn’t just nuke the Buc’s season in 2018, he may very well have set the franchise back another 5 years unless another serviceable quarterback is appropriated. Even if he only gets suspended 3 games, the Bucs cannot trust him EVER again. The next time he does something stupid, he will get suspended for a year more than likely. The Buccaneer organization will never prosper with that hanging over their heads folks. Cut him now. Save the film clips for Winston’s eventual 30 for 30 story about how he torpedoed his career. America’s quarterback huh? Right. Go Bucs.

  11. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Bird

Adam Schein maybe predicted better!!!!! this was from 2 months before the 2015 draft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

““If you make Jameis Winston your overall No. 1 pick in the draft and you make him the CEO of your franchise, you should fold the team. You are basically saying you care more about buzz and getting all the tickets sold for every game. And we don’t give a damn about winning.

“And I don’t want to hear about Lovie is going to be good for Jameis Winston. ‘You know, cause Lovie is a good guy, the players love him.’ How’d that work out for Tampa Bay last year? Riddle me that.

“My goodness, Jameis Winston can’t be the guy. Jameis Winston is not someone you can trust. How is Jameis Winston going to practice and study film and prepare and walk into the Buccaneers huddle? Week One, hypothetically, I don’t know, on the road in New Orleans? How is he going to get ready for the Atlanta Falcons? The guy is immature. Give me one reason to believe why Jameis Winston is going to mature?

“So he will be the No. 1 overall pick? He will get all of this money? And then he is going to mature? Then he is going to get it? Wow. This stinks. This smells bad. My goodness!

  12. FairMinded Says:

A good team pins all this kind of stuff up on a board and uses it as motivation. We have a ton of good players and good leaders. No way this destroys our season.

All the talking heads weighing in on this Jameis situation seem to think this happened yesterday. This was in March 2016. In no way am I excusing it but it’s a good sign more women haven’t come out of the woodwork with accusations since then. Hopefully he can move past this with time

  13. Resurrection of Fitz Says:

RJ2, Todd Monken and the new defense of line will keep us Alive!

    Bucs 20 Saints 17
    Eagles 18 Bucs 17
Steelers 3 Bucs 35….. Vita has 3 sacks!!! Whitehead returns 2 for TDs!! Monken is carried of the field! Fitz manage the game well. QB controversy starts at One Buc Palace.

  14. Jff Says:

Licht nuked this season way back in April of 2015

  15. Rob Says:

@ Fairminded…”its a good sign more women haven’t come out of the woodwork with accusations since then” Are you freaking kidding me bro! That is the barometer you are going to use to justify letting Jameis be Jameis and get away with grabbing the crotch of some random female because he felt like it. You are an idiot. If Jameis felt up your girlfriend, wife, daughter, niece etc I think you would feel much different, or wouldn’t you? Go Bucs!

  16. Fire the glazers Says:

The only thing in question is whether Jameis will actually okay at all this year.
Glazers could pull the trigger and cut/trade JW and get a Free Agent QB next year, or if the season goes poorly enough, draft his replacement…

  17. FairMinded Says:

@Rob how about you do the non-Fox news version and take my entire quote in context? These types of accusations against public figures are usually a pattern and my point was that since it happened in the off-season in 2016 (he would have been 22) there haven’t been new allegations. This didn’t happen last week and seemingly nothing similar has happened since. Counts for nothing to you obviously but to me it’s (hopefully) part of a maturation process. I’ve been a drunk 22 year old trying to hit on women and guess what…you do stupid crap. He who is without sin etc etc. He wasn’t accused of rape and she didn’t think it was egregious enough to file a police report. His lies were stupid and immature and grounds for suspension but not, to me, grounds for burying the guy.

  18. Bobby M. Says:

He’s kind of right…..Playoffs in no way felt guaranteed from this team even with Winston, it was more like 8-8 or 9-7 season was a good turn around from last season. You lose Winston the first 3 games….he’s got to come in at week 4 and get into game speed when all the other teams have knocked off the rust. Its the Bears so on paper not the worst team to face. With all that being said, teams outlooks can change on what play and teams tend to get upset early in the season when everyone is rusty. A player can get injured in the preseason for first few games…you just never know so we have to play game 1 with Fitz. After game 1 whether we lose or win its irrelevant to game 2….we still have to play game 2 to determine that. I think that’s how this team can surprise us. I also think these players might want to show everyone, there’s more ballers on this team then just Winston. I think some may want to show they might have won more games had Winston not been in turning the ball over 2x per game.

  19. BrianBucs Says:

Calling Nick Foles Calling Nick Foles, Calling Nick Foles………..

  20. AlteredEgo Says:

If and when a suspension is announced…another QB will be brought in and I am not talking a developmental QB….a player with NFLK starting experience

  21. ChanEpic Says:

Wow, Season Nuked, Jameis not even top 15??!?!? In the famous words of the A-Rod: “Calm down”. Anyone who thinks we were going anything other than 1-3 or (MAYBE)2-2 in our first four games wasn’t serious anyway. The reality is we have 13 more games for Jameis to make amends for his idiocy. I am hopeful he takes this self-inflicted adversity and channels that into his best season as a pro for the rest of those 13 games. That said, I’m done with defending Jaboo(doesn’t only win). He’d better become a mixture of Mr. Rogers, Aaron Rodgers, Jim Brown on and off the field for me to regain my respect as a player, and more importantly, as a MAN. Grow The F Up buddy.

  22. firethecannons Says:

    fairminded
yeah I hope he moves past it too, you are right, he basically has had a clean slate for 2 years, now he is getting married and that should help a lot. Especially with a family on the way.

Just when we were getting somewhere, still have this feeling coach Buc isn’t for nothing though and all the d line aint for nothing too Cant wait to watch defense this year, a lot of promising young players and veterans

  23. AlteredEgo Says:

So who will step up and become the leader of this team going forward ?….Someone will have to….Jameis has lost that and nobody knows if he’ll ever get it back….he has let so many down on and off the field at OBP

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Test

  25. Mtbucsfan Says:

Why is it that just because one offensive player is out three games you’re doomed! Everyone seems to forget there are two sides of football. Anyone can win with these weapons. Will have to be more of a game manager but why no faith in the defense. I understand last year was horrid. But we got quite a few nice pieces. For me it’s to early to stick a stake on the season. Anything can happen. No one expected the eagles to do what they did last year. As for Jameis he must keep his nose clean. This year will truly prove if he’s a stud or dud. How he bounces back after the suspension will say a lot. I’m still cheering for him. As long as he has no more troubles. Which I don’t foresee.

  26. AlteredEgo Says:

OK…I’ll finally chime in on the loser mentality of 0-3….LOSER
It is one game at a time….3-0 is how I approach the suspension period, assuming it is 3 games,…one game…one win at a time….certainly possible

  27. JameisNOT Says:

I was right Joe. Stop calling the clown show “America’s QB”!!!!

  28. JWBUCS Says:

Jason McIntyre is unprofessional and throwing this article full of Pre-Season assumption is totally irresponsible…. McIntyre, you are Not a sports journalist and for every jerk of like you there is a true journalist with Football knowledge who writes a positive on the upcoming 2018 season.

Remember, we have Not seen Buckner’s Defensive Line in action with its addition of linemen added by Bucs GM over this offseason…. Also, the Bucs running game could see a complete turnaround, and the Offensive game plan may have major positive changes with Monken taking over full operations of the Offensive game.

Only time will tell, but I Do Not have time for negative speculation!

  29. Wausa Says:

Unfortunately I do think the Bucs will not recover in 2018.

This is not a franchise that expects to win.
This is a franchise that historically has been a looser and they do not have it mentally to be able to overcome this type of significant adversity.

Just 12 months ago things were looking very positive for the Bucs and now the Bucs are almost assured to be worst than they were last year.

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Superbowl!!!!

Forget a!l of this negativity. I’m calling it. The Bucs are going to win the NFC Championship this year.

And Jameis will lead us into the Superbowl. Know what that will mean? The Bucs will have the best QB in the NFC!

Am I dreaming? Living in a fantasy world? No. Faith is not fantasy. For everyone using a lack of facts to doom this year, I can use the lack of facts to predict a great season!

That’s right, I said lack of facts. Because everything said? All has been opinion!

Come on, fellow fans, I love New York because I was born there, but I’m a Bucs fan, and Jets fans are probably the worst in the NFL. Certainly, you cannot take anything a NY radio media guys says seriously. They are pure sensationalists.

So, haters and roken fans, Buc Up!

Because I wanna be just like everyone else.

I hope they dont Nuke this Team again!!!

LIKE THEY DO EVERY OTHER YEAR OR SO.

JW can grab my balls or my wifes balls anytime he wants!!!

Just win baby and he can grab the biggest balls of us all.

You people with little balls can have all the ball you want.

But JW will have the biggest balls of us ALL.

  36. Not there yet Says:

Why’d you put that trash on your website Joe? That dude is a moron. The season is toast because of a 3-6 game suspension and training camp hasn’t started yet? So he’s saying we could have won the first 3 games with Winston? What a moron but unfortunately all week long we’ll hear about this Uber issue plus every Sunday for 16 weeks. That’s the main reason I’m annoyed.

Idiot could have grabbed all the crotches he wanted in the nightclub. I want to believe this is all nothing, to think you couldn’t find a girl to take home in a place where many are looking to hook up so you go grab the crotch of the Uber driver? Such a bad look on so many levels.

I have read all the articles, commentator opinions, fan opinions, teammate analysis, potential outcomes, and effects this will have on the Buc’s 2018 season. And while there are a few logical assumptions mostly by a handful of fans and not people who get paid for doing their job (right or wrong) I honestly don’t know how it will go down. I say, like a few, Let’s wait and see the final report. I am pretty sure Koetter and company will prepare for contingencies and considering the potential of other position groups we should be competitive. I agree with Def Rules and Bonzai, with a strong Defense and a winning attitude it should be a competitive season. It is what it is

  43. Orangepants Says:

Trade and cut future HOF players in an attempt to appear morally straight, then pick an obviously troubled young man 1st in the draft because of the position he plays? The problem here is a complete lack of integrity. I’ve been a bucs fan for a very long time. This organization has disappointed all of us more often than not. The Jameis experiment is more than just one of many bad choices. It shows that there is little at the core of this organization to give a longtime fan any reason to continue supporting this team.

  44. BigHogHaynes Says:

Jamis will to survive is strong!

  45. Season Is Over Says:

Dirk “We were done by Columbus Day” Koetter?

  46. jmarkbuc Says:

    On the other hand…

I think I’d rather have pundits saying we’re done than, the “Bucs are playoff favorites”

That has always done us in. Time to #WALKTHEWALK Bucs.

No one man(child) makes a football team. Lot’s of folks around here say DK never wanted JW in the first place (and if so, for good reason it appears). Maybe we get a much better coaching job, with guys that can be coached.

  47. BucThatNoise Says:

So the first 3 games are a write-off because the starter will likely be out? Let’s all calm down and be sensible for a second.

Firstly, no one has played one meaningful down of the regular season, let alone training camp or preseason. Lotta time for players on all teams to step up, regress, get injured, etc.

Now let’s at least give the Bucs the benefit of the doubt on their home games. However hot you think it will be, especially for the Eagles game, it’s even hotter on the field. I remember games past, specifically ones against KC and Washington, in which the visitors were puking like frat boys after a keg stand and needed IV’s. And yes, the Bucs won those.

Secondly, all 3 of those teams are good but come on, they’re all beatable. Eagles may well suffer that post-SB homecoming letdown. Honeymoon’s over. And if they stick a still-healing Wentz in there, he could very well fall as a result of either weather or pass rush heat. Just being speculative and optimistic.

Steelers lost their ability to scare me when Jax laid them out like an old patio rug — twice. They’re no slouch but let’s see who shows up for them that week.

Lastly, I believe they’ve upgraded enough across the board that they’ll be competitive in all of these games.

I don’t have a job that depends on likes and reads. So I can afford to be practical about this, unlike the failed journalism majors who write 9/10ths of the rubbish out there.

  48. Buccfan37 Says:

The Bucs will have to play looser in order to avoid being a big loser, in other words not tighter but let it all hang out to avoid a heap of losses.

  49. Tony LA Says:

    This is grotesque.
If the Bucs don’t bring in someone REAL to compete with Fitz then it will officially be known that the Bucs are the worst run organization in the NFL. Period.

The Bucs are facing a major crisis and the solution is… status quo?

Fitz is horrible. Never won anything. Never. Not a single thing. Never been to the playoffs. Nada. It’s one thing when your 24 year old QB is trying to get to the playoffs for the first time. An entirely different thing when your 35 year old QB is.

    Two thoughts:
The last two Super Bowl winners…
    1. Had their QB suspended the first 4 games and still won
    2. Lost their QB with 3 weeks left in the season and still won

    Why?
Damn good young QBs waiting in the wings that – regardless of anyone’s opinion of them – are vastly superior to Fitz. Vastly.

The season is over and jobs will be lost. OR the Bucs can be shrewd and go get a real QB to come in and compete. Who cares about a 2nd round pick next year if they’re just going to lose again this season.

The only mistake the Bucs can make right now is status quo.
If you think Fitz is going to go out and out duel Brees, Wentz, and Big Ben then all I’ll say directly to your face is this…

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Stop the madness. Do what successfully run organizations do. Adapt and amend and improve. Jameis is getting suspended. That sucks. Now what are you going to do about it?

The only wrong answer… is nothing.

If we’d been blessed with a softer schedule then the perception wouldn’t be so negative but with 3 playoff teams in a row, without your franchise QB really sucks.

  56. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Joe, you said the Bucs made the playoffs after starting 0-3, but it was in a strike shortened season. Wouldn’t playing less games overall make it harder to make the playoffs after a bad start? I didn’t think you needed to add the strike in there. Making it to the playoffs in a shorter season after a bad start is an accomplishment, not an asterisk.
