“The Texas Tesla”

May 2nd, 2018

Compared to all-time great.

There is a Hall of Fame running back that is stoked for the Bucs to land Ronald Jones.

His name is Terrell Davis.

Working “Total Access” Monday night with Lindsay Rhodes, Davis was asked to name his three top running backs drafted last week. In particular, Rhodes asked Davis to name his top “breakaway back.”

Davis smiled and said his favorite is Jones.

“The Texas Tesla,” Davis said of the McKinney, Tex. product. “He’s a little bit of Jamaal Charles, but also to me he’s a little bit of Eric Dickerson. I keep saying that. When he breaks out — this man ran on the track team. Once he breaks out into that fifth or sixth gear, you are not going to catch him.”

Davis detailed in video why Jones reminds him of Dickerson.

This got Joe pumped.

If Jones really is the next Eric Dickerson, Joe will ask again, when did any NFL coach ask or fret about how Dickerson blocked? Joe was in college when Dickerson was drafted by the Rams and Joe never heard any such thing.

You know what Dickerson could do? Run like a friggin’ scared deer.

    Perfect compliment for Barber.

    Lightning and Thunder.

I just Jacquizz will lose some weight this summer and get quicker.

He played way too swoll last year. Quizz need to be less thick and more quick.

  2. BucEmUp Says:

I agree, this was a really good pick, perfect pairing for Barber. This is our Kamara/Ingram combo.

There are zero excuses for the offense not to perform, aside from the diminished time of possession from the worst DC in the lea…..WORLD!!!!!

  3. Joeypoppems Says:

The Jamaal Charles comp is a common one. RoJo was a good pick and a good compliment to Barber.

  4. BigHogHaynes Says:

Our O/Line will have to get better if Jones is to run like Dickerson!

  5. Bucsfan1010 Says:

Agreed pick was right in the money. Jones is going to put up big numbers and this offense now has a legit RB

  6. El_Buc941 Says:

The thing I like about Ronald Jones is he finds the hole quick and takes off and if you get in the way he’s going through you. The kid has take off speed and can break tackles.

  7. SteveK Says:

How many times recently has our RB been caught from behind on a big play? It feels like every time.

I’m excited for the Ronald Jones pick, especially if he can house a long run without getting caught from behind.

  8. Evolvingbucfan Says:

i’d settle for a run longer than 20 yards at this point =)

  9. Rrsrq Says:

Rojo really fell to the Bucs, I’m definitely good with this pick, but when you look at the run on RBs and how they were leaving the board, Bucs had to jump on the “Texas Tesla”. Looking forward to the battles in training camp at RB, on the defensive and offensive line, there should be competition everywhere except QB, receiver/tight end and LB

  10. German Buc Says:

I have to admit, that I was on the Guice bandwagon. The time I heard rumors about his off-field stuff and poor interviews I checked the alternatives and was absolutely charmed with RoJo.
In his highlight reels, it looked like he was the reason his QB was that high on draft boards.
    I really love this pick.

  11. Big Country Says:

BigHogHaynes….the line actually got much better.

  12. OneBuc55 Says:

Nice, we haven’t had a true home run hitter at RB in Tampa since Dunn…It’s also refreshing to see a speed back that can run with power in between the tackles and not look to bounce it out to the edge every time like Reggie Bush did…Loved the pick I didn’t think he’d still be on the board when we picked in the second rd..

I know its early but Imho, just from a talent stand point and the way Licht worked his draft board this my be his best draft top to bottom since he’s been here…

Us against the world, go Bucs!

  13. Easy Says:

Can’t wait to see this guy on the field!

    Free tmaxcon

  14. Gencoimports Says:

In the 3rd graph, “Working “Total Access” Monday night with Lindsay Rhodes, Dickerson was asked to name his three top running backs drafted last week. In particular, Rhodes asked Davis to name his top “breakaway back.”

Instead of Dickerson, in the first sentence, I believe you mean Davis, who is about to name Dickerson.

[Thanks for the catch. — Joe]

  15. Pickgrin Says:

    This is ROJO

    See ROJO Go

    Go ROJO GO!!!

  16. Joe Says:

    Free tmaxcon

He will be back. Just in the cooler until regular season kicks off

  17. Alpha Buc fan Says:

Don’t free tmax no one wants that negative cancer on this site all he does is complain about the Bucs an says the same thing over an over an over about GMC we get it. I’m not sure he’s even a Bucs fan plz joe do not free him

  18. AlteredEgo Says:

#22….smooth operator….the OL will love blocking for him….his running threat will loosen up the pass coverage too….win~~~win~~~

  19. FLyBoy Says:

I will be honest, my first impression was to pass on him. I thought he wasnt a good back. After watching his tape and seeing the fundamentals that a RB is supposed to have, ball position while carrying, protecting the ball in between the tackles, moves to avoid defenders, etc, I became a believer and loved the pick even more. His speed is something I havent seen in Tampa in a long time. Im glad we have this pick.

  20. Bossmode Says:

Love the pick if he can stay healthy he get nick up alot

  21. Pickgrin Says:

    How about a poll Joe?

Let those who read and participate in the comments decide whether we should have to put up with the ridiculous rantings of trollmax or not.

If 75% or greater vote HELL NO to maxi_pad’s return – then the ban stays permanent. Deal?

  22. 813bucboi Says:

    this was a great pick…..

some folks say theres a 50/50 split regarding the draft….some loved it….some not so much…..not sure where the “not so much” crowd is from because down here in tampa, west tampa east tampa, carrollwood area I couldn’t find 1 person that was disappointed in the draft besides a couple fsu fans…..folks complaining about MJ tripping…..he aint even hit the field yet and folks already b!tching about him…..yall acting like we got him with the #7 pick in the 1st round…lol….

the kid has talent, I just hope smitty doesn’t screw him up…..he’ll lock down the nickel position and he’ll make an impact……

    licht did a great job and I don’t think he’s done yet…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  23. BringBucsBack Says:

Man Joe, you were in college when dick Dickerson was drafted? Sorry about your age, bro;)
I was rockin’ my orange Bucs gear, suffering the criticisms that came with it and popping zits in middle school at that time.
There are two Joes. One was in your boat, too. –Joe

  24. AlteredEgo Says:

Eric Dickerson is not a good comparison….Dickerson was a huge man 6’3″ 225

  25. Joe Says:

Eric Dickerson is not a good comparison….Dickerson was a huge man 6’3″ 225

Davis was talking about style, not size.

  26. Buccernutter Says:

    Joe

That would be a poor decision to let Tmax back imo. This site is so much better now. Smh

Btw I think we should nickname Jones RonJon instead. Like the surf shop. 😁

  27. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

Wait I missed this. TMAXCON got the banhammer? Was there a post about this?

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Barber is finally going to be put in a spot to prove he cannot maintain production. I’m good with that. He’s Earnest Graham part two.

  29. Erik w/ Clean Athletics Says:

I agree that tmaxcon is a cancer on this site and it’s so nice to cruise thru the comment section without it being tainted by his worn out abject negativity.

    $crew tmax, Joe,
Please make it a lifetime ban. You honestly needed to ban that troll way before you did, but better late than never.

  30. Buccernutter Says:

Not sure if you will respond to this or even care Joe, but I do not visit this site as often when Tmax is allowed to comment. It seriously jeopardizes the integrity and overall experience of joebucsfan. But do you….

  31. Bucsfanman Says:

You guys, tmaxcon NEEDS to be released at the start of the season. How else will we be able to assure he eats that heaping platter of rotisserie crow?! You know you want to make him eat it!

I’m excited about Jones. He looks like a home-run style runner. I’m still a little concerned about his size though and how he will be utilized. Lest we forget, Koetter hasn’t met a run up the middle he didn’t like!

  32. Joe Says:

I do not visit this site as often when Tmax is allowed to comment. It seriously jeopardizes the integrity and overall experience of joebucsfan.

TMax never wrote a story for JoeBucsFan and likely never will.

  33. Kobe Faker Says:

Kobe has changed his opinion on Jones. thought lightweight was from the westcoast

    Texas RBs have good pedigree

he has small hands but seems like a teachable player

    however..

2018 will be the emergence of mr peyton barber

watchout…run and pass….breaking arm tackles like butter

    Kobe the Parrot

  34. Buccernutter Says:

That’s true and all but let’s not ignore the fact that many people tend to gravitate towards the comment section after reading an article.

You can play coy all you want about Tmax’s influence on your site, but it’s evident from this thread and many others that most of your readers do not enjoy reading his responses. But again, do you.

  35. JimmyJack Says:

Is USC good at pumping out RBs? I always think of O.J. Simpson.

Dang gum can’t this pick please work!!!!

  36. Buccfan37 Says:

tmax’s opinion carries as much weight as any other comment I’ve read on JBF even if it’s repeated daily as far as I am concerned being in the minority. I don’t doubt he is a big Bucs fan.

  37. Buccernutter Says:

Again that’s true buccfan, I just think most of us agree reading a redundant insult to McCoy’s attitude and hobbies every day is old and annoying.

Just my 2 cents. I’ve already spent enough time speaking about that which should not be spoken of.

  38. uckinator Says:

I’m okay with the 50% of Tmax’s remarks as they do show knowledge on the Bucs and NFL. What burns most is the other 50% that is the “Over the top” hate on GMC. He’s been voted to go to the pro bowl many times for a reason. I equate Tmax’s psychosis to the hate trump gets from most of the media (Sarasota Herald Tribune included). He gets the economy booming and unemployment numbers down, conquers ISIS, mending fences between North & South Korea, makes the USA more energy dominant, and created a new dynamic in the middle East with Saudi Arabia & Israel as allies (Who saw that coming ?) all in a year and half soooo; Democrats want to impeach him. Go figure.

  39. JJBucFan Says:

JimmyJack-Marcus Allen was no chump either!!

  40. Rhenry Says:

    Nor was Ricky Bell.

  41. '74 Bucs fan Says:

ROJO doesn’t look to see who’s catching him, because nobody is! How freakin’ refreshing!

“There goes Drug Martin busting through the hole, he’s at the 50, at the 40, at the 30, 20, 10, down at the 5… field goal wide left”

  42. adam from ny Says:

this pick is growing on me…

    “Mofo Rojo Wit The Mojo”

  43. D the Bucs fan Says:

If ROJO is anything like Charles we got a steal check the highlights. Of Charles. If he’s like Dickerson we’ll have damn HOFer for years to come running the rock when is the last time we had a back with speed? Warrick Dunn? We are over due.

  44. Axn Jxsn Says:

RoJo is going to be a beast!

  45. PriMech54 Says:

    @ ’74BucsFan

…. HAHAHA! That was so on point it hurts. I just relived many, MANY moments where our lack of speed got us hawked down inside the redzone and we end up leaving points on the field. Really excited for RoJo at RayJay!!!

  46. SOEbuc Says:

Terrell Davis given mad props. That’s a very good thing.

  47. SOEbuc Says:

I think Jones likes to cut it out and strike down the field the most. Praying for Cappa to come in at RT and play anything like he did in college. If Cappa can put people on the floor like before, Jones will be able to take it to the house every series.

  48. BadHombre Says:

    Tesla??? Oh no!

    https://www.cheatsheet.com/money-career/tesla-in-trouble-in-danger-of-failing.html/?a=viewall

  49. M0J0 Says:

Jones is going to finally bring balance to the offense and will really bring major energy and excitement to our team! We already have weapons all across the offense from a passing standpoint, so he will most likely be dealing with 7 man boxes a good percentage of plays, and it seems that he does have the ability to hit holes fast and take it to the house any time he touches it. If Winston continues his late season improvement and our O-line can play decent, we have a chance to put up arcade numbers next season.
