Respect Not Coming From Buccaneers’ Peers

May 23rd, 2018

No love for Bucs

The annual NFL Top 100 players feature on NFL Network is half over for 2018.

Fifty players have been revealed (Nos. 51-100) and not one Buccaneer has been named.

It’s a bad look, considering the rankings come from the votes of several hundred NFL players.

Kirk Cousins, Jimmy Garoppolo, Derek Carr, Philip Rivers and Case Keenum were all honored so far this year, and many more quarterbacks are on the way as the top-50 is revealed.. Jameis Winston was ranked 57th last year, so it appears he was shunned by his peers this year.

At defensive tackle, Ndamukong Suh (No. 61), Jurrell Casey (66), Fletcher Cox (69), Geno Atkins (63), Linval Joseph (83), Mike Daniels (93) are all in.

Gerald McCoy was ranked No. 52 last year. Man, Joe sure hopes McCoy’s name is at least called next week when the players ranked 41 through 50 are revealed.

Maybe Kwon Alexander get in this year, but missing four games last season and needing a little time to get back at full speed after that might have hurt his votes. Lavonte David had his streak of being named to the top-100 broken last year.

Mike Evans ranked No. 29 in 2017, and Joe is confident he’s the only returning Buccaneer on the offense who has a shot at the top-100 this year.

No center has been named yet, so perhaps new Bucs manbeast center Ryan Jensen gets in for his stellar work with the Ravens last season.

    Good….in a good way…

  2. Tom S. Says:

It’s really hard to go 5-11, with the 5th win coming on a last second play at the end of the season and expect to get a lot of respect from your peers.

Win games and the awards and recognition will take care of itself.

  3. TheBucsAnthem Says:

After this season they’ll know the players names

    …………this is the year!!!!!!!

  4. DB55 Says:

I was shocked to see Atkins and Suh named before gmc. Even more shocked when he didn’t appear the following week. Now if they place gmc above Kwann short you know it’s a scam.

  5. HFXBUC Says:

I’m. 99% Shure there is only one more DT on the list. They talked about it total access before the reveal show last week.

  6. ndog Says:

I mean did anyone on this team deserved to be a top 100 player? I mean our best players, Jameis, Evans, David, McCoy, Brate, Grimes and Kwon all had at best average years so you get what you deserve. But having a guy who played 6 games all year in Jimmy G is a bit ridiculous. It just shows the players are about a clueless as most writers are around the country outside of their local teams (with the exception of some with the initials of JL who is just clueless on everything football related).

  7. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

The fact that so many QB’s have already made the list says enough. Our starter is not viewed in the top half in the NFL. There is a man on the bench, however, …

    #FreeTheAmishRifle
    GO BUCS!!!

  8. CitruscountyBUC Says:

Go out and punch the other teams in the mouth and you’ll get the respect that you’re looking for.

  9. Pryda ...sec147 Says:

I’m glad that list is bull

  10. doctor_berto Says:

Lets be honest, Kwon does not deserve to be in the top 100 after his performance last season. Lavonte does

  11. unbelievable Says:

I agree Joe, Evans will prob be the only Buc named to it. And truthfully he’s the only one that deserves it.

Maybe Cameron Brate too? I haven’t’ looked at the list to see what other tight ends are on there…

  12. DANR Says:

Some interesting incognito news today. Has your stance changed Joes?

  13. Capt.Tim Says:

3 Bucs should be on that list, In my opinion
Gerald McCoy, Cameron Brate, Mike Evans

No other Buc had an outstanding season
The only player close Is Brent Grimes, but our lack of pass rush torpedoed another great effort by him.

Both our very talented Linebackers spent the season missing tackles, sucking on the blitz, and playing weak coverage.
Look up their sack/ interception numbers if you like.
Beckwith may have had the best season at LB.

  14. Mike Johnson Says:

You don’t have to be the brightest candle in the shop to know…Our roster and the way we played last year..sucked to..Holy Hell and beyond!! Win and the respect starts comin..in truckloads. Evans and mcCoy are the only 2 Buc players who truly get respect around the NFL. I mean when a team knows it can just..waltz into your endzone..in your stadium..WHY..would they respect you? (Hello,Paging Mike Smith?) We are watching..to see what kind of respect we get this season.

  15. SOEbuc Says:

OMG JOE!! WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO!!! NO NFL NETWORK PLAYER RANKINGS!!! EVERYONE HEAD TO THE BOMB SHELTER!!!

  16. Lamarcus Says:

It’s not a real top 100 players list. Just a TV show.

  17. BigMacAttack Says:

Who cares. The whole top 100 thing is stupid. It’s a team sport and you win or lose as one. I really hope these players aren’t moping about this.
News Flash: The Bucs Sucked!!! And have for a long time. Put together a winning season, maybe even a wild card birth. The players are all getting paid more than they’re worth. David, Alexander, McCoy and Winston all could have done more and played better. Not a single Buc is worthy or deserving of top 100 rank. Maybe this season they can pull it all together and win. Wins and happy fans are more important than personal accolades. Someone call Joe a waambulance. Haha

  18. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

5-11 with worst defense in the NFL? maybe mike evans but thats it

  19. Destinjohnny Says:

    Draft better

  20. 813bucboi Says:

no one on the defense should get a spot….point blank period…..I don’t even think evans deserves a spot…..

bryan anger gets my vote…..he was the best and most consistent all year on the bucs!!!!…he deserves a spot before anyone on the bucs!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  21. superslacker Says:

It’s more empty nonsense not worth paying attention to. NFL network has to come up with something to fill airtime, thus we have this show. My advice to NFLN: more Kay Adams in tight clothing. Less player ranking.

  22. William Walls Says:

I don’t agree with you often, 813, but I’m absolutely with you on Anger. He’s the BEST!

  23. OneBucPerson Says:

Why should they be respected by their peers? No one shined and they were part of a 5-11 team. If we want to see players on the list then they need to step up and earn it.

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“Fifty players have been revealed (Nos. 51-100) and not one Buccaneer has been named.”

I think perhaps this is a none issue, because it could mean we have players who are in the top 50.

  25. Easy Denman Says:

Kwon doesnt deserve to be on the list. He isnt even a top ten MLB in the league.

  26. John5 Says:

What about Lavonte David? I’ve never seen such a top performing defensive player get shunned so much. Leading tackler every year and can’t even get selected for a pro bowl without someone dropping out.

I think these lists and pro bowl selections are a bunch of Oscar myer bologna anyway. It’s just something to try and keep people interested during downtime. Meanwhile they keep changing up the rules, are clearly biased with teams, and refs control the games all the time. The NFL becomes the WWE more and more every year. And the Bucs are like the wrestler that constantly gets shafted when the ref isn’t looking. And nothing ever happens. Because they’re not the WWE/NFL’s chosen star.

  27. Rod Munch Says:

David should be in the top 100 year in and year out, the fact he isn’t is only because the Bucs are completely irrelevant and people forget the team even exists.

  28. Horse Liver Says:

Worst defense in history combined with a mediocre offense that could pile up stats in garbage time with a QB who turns it over and injured his throwing arm in week 2?

    No surprise. No news here.

  29. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

BigMac if you don’t think Mike Evans is a top 100 player you don’t know football. Dude is a beast and will probably be in the top 20.

  30. Trench War Says:

No respect I tell ya. I bet every team on our schedule has us marked as an easy win. For Buc players to be such an afterthought to all their fellow peers proves that we’re just not feared, and in their minds, except for a few, we are almost completely devoid of any real household names. It all changes this year!

  31. Blue-footed booby Says:

Don’t think Evans will be on this list either. Barely broke 1000 receiving yards and had less than 1/2 of the receiving TDs he had from the year prior. Yep, zero Bucs on the list and its not like I disagree with the list too much either for that matter.

  32. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Blue-footed – Please post a retraction on the article Joe writes later when Evans hits the list.

  33. Blue-footed booby Says:

    TouchDownTampaBay

I suppose it comes down to if players are voting solely on the year before or are voting on multiple seasons of work as I don’t think Mike Evans performance from the 2017 season merited being a top 50 player, not to mention sucker punching Marshon Lattimore which probably doesn’t help his reputation among his NFL peers …

  34. Alpha Buc fan Says:

Who cares where these players rank among their peers. I only care about seeing improvement an wins cuz that’s all that matters. Let’s go Bucs

  35. BoJim Says:

Bet we see a couple more next year.

  36. BigMacAttack Says:

Mike Evans is definitely a top receiver in the league. So is DeSean. Too many other players on the offense affect their performance and numbers. Bad pass protection, bad passes and bad play calls do for sure. It’s a team sport and that’s why I think this whole thing is BS.

  37. tnew Says:

    real recognises real.

  38. Hodad Says:

Lets get real Joe. No one respects a bunch of panzies. Respect needs to be earned. No one on that 5-11 stinker deserves any respect. You have pictured in your piece the Q.B. of one of the worst defenses in the league last year, nuff said.

  39. Nole&aBuc Says:

With the Buc’s being Cinderella, the show fits. Sorry and sad to say. 🙁

  40. Nole&aBuc Says:

    * shoe not show. my bad, wish i could blame auto correct but can’t. 😉

With the Buc’s being Cinderella, the shoe fits. Sorry and sad to say. 🙁

  41. Not there yet Says:

Can’t have a defense like that and expect anyone to respect you enough to put you on a top 100 list, none of them earned respect last year….. You earn respect by kicking the other guys butt

There is only one thing hurting Winston and it’s gotta be that stupid eat a W speech

  42. BucTrooper Says:

I said it in another post: the Bucs are Wallpaper. No one notices them.

The Bucs are the team with the pirate ship in the end zone and the “digital clock” jerseys. That’s pretty much it.

  43. Iamabuc Says:

That’s about to change this year…count on it!

  44. GreG Says:

This pathetic franchise deserves no respect

  45. GreG Says:

This pathetic franchise deserved no respect

  46. Duke Says:

    Blue,

The rankings are based on the expectations of the upcoming season . Since this vote is not a fan vote or a network talking heads or behind the scenes analyst vote but rather it’s the opinion of other players who are asked to vote for players who they believe are going to have have an exceptional year. How much weight should fans place on the opinion of current players is for each fan to determine.
The question is , if a Buc player makes the list will His selection be dismissed or celebrated?

Last year JW was named and it was well received by Buc fans. If He’s on the list is it going to be vindication for the hard core JW fans? GMC? LVD?

  47. Phil Says:

All of the players the Bucs played against last year said the team was soft. So if you’re soft and playing football do you really think other players think you are any good. Probably not. Maybe this year Koetter will run a real training camp that makes the players work and get better. If not we will be talking about the same crap next year but with a new coach.

  48. FortMyersDave Says:

Should be good motivation when the Bucs line up against some of the guys ranked on that list.

  49. BigMacAttack Says:

Koetter is the problem. Sad to say because he’s a smart coach, but he’s in over his head and can’t get out of his own way. I hope he proves me wrong and they have a winning season. Derp’s teams have given up way too easily and Mike Evans’ presser all but said so, after game 1 injuries. The rate of the leader determines the rate of the pack. Gerald McCoy is a clown and should not be put in front of microphone. Idiot.
