Flowing Locks & Cross Training

Bucs third-round pick Alex Cappa

Lot of technique work today among the healthy crop of 10 tryout and rookie offensive lineman at Bucs’ rookie minicamp.

At one point, a Bucs coach barked for tackles and centers to come with him as the group was going to divide.

It was a somewhat telling moment. Buccaneers third-round rookie Alex Cappa, standing near the coach, replied, “Me?”

Cappa, per general manager Jason Licht, will be working initially in the spring at right tackle at both guard positions. He’s got a lot on his plate out of Division-II Humboldt State.

Frankly, without pads on, Joe pays little attention to offensive lineman. Cappa certainly looks more the part of tackle at 6-6 or 6-7, and he still has those flowing dirty-blond locks, which will make him very easy to spot in training camp — as long as the Bucs don’t sign Fabio.

But if Fabio can rush the passer, Joe is all for it.

Kappa looks kind of doughy in photos, more like a college player at a small school than a big school or NFL guy. Does that hold true in person or is it just some bad pictures of the guy I’ve seen? If he has a work ethic it’s not a big deal since he can make himself more solid, and being a D2 guy he didn’t have access to all the resources big school college guys have. Also any further hint on where he’s going to play? I know they talked about cross training him, but for starting in the NFL I hope they put him at guard and let him learn the position, the jump from a D2 tackle to an NFL one is probably the biggest leap in all of football and I’d guess it would be a couple of years before he’d be ready to play.

I thought that was a pic of Riley Bullough. Guess all white guys with blonde hair look the same!!

Speaking of rushing the passer…..sure looks like Cappa could do that….or at least beat up on a Tackle or two.

Lol Clod! A bit of “racism”??? JK but if one were so inclined and too sensitive……

Rod, I read where the kid goes to Arizona every off season and works out at an offensive line program run by some ex NFL’rs. The “O-Line Performance Training Club”. So, maybe he’s got a better idea than some of the uptick in speed and talent. Maybe not. But, he sure seems like a good prospect.

We need Cappa to be/become a fast learner.

Hopefully he can get “up to speed” quickly and follow Marpet’s progression in starting at RG from Game 1.

Fabio pretty much lost his mojo after he took that duck to the face.

Welcome to the South Florida heat boys…lol… Cappa needs to shave that head.

How has our “cross-training” these guys worked out so far? just put him at tackle and teach him the damn position. If he can’t hack it , THEN try Guard. We keep these young guys like Pamphile, Benonoch and others and try to cross-train them, just let them learn one NFL position until they get acclimated to the Pros. Geesh!!
