Buckner Not Intimidated By GMC

May 23rd, 2018

No sacred cows.

It is common for a young NFL assistant coach in his first year on the job to somewhat ignore a long-time veteran who has played at a high level with several Pro Bowls to his name.

One reason could be, don’t fix what is not broken. Another could be a sense of intimidation. There is no such thing with new Bucs defensive line coach Brentson Buckner.

Yesterday while talking to the local pen and mic club, Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy revealed that Buckner has already gotten in his grill in an effort to make GMC an even better player.

“I just love his energy,” GMC said of Buckner. “He just keeps it as real as it gets. There was a day in Phase Two where he challenged me. It was all positive. He was talking to me and talking to me and chattering at me in my ear just to push me because there is no vet. There is no Pro Bowl. Everybody is on the same plane and that’s what I love about him. He doesn’t care about who you are or what you’ve done. He has been brought here for a job and that is what he is going to do. I love that about him.

“He just keeps it real. He doesn’t care how you feel. He is going to tell you how it is, he is going to coach you and it’s onto the next. If you don’t like it, you shrug, ‘Ok, whatever. I am here to do a job and I am going to do it.’ I love that about Buck.”

And Joe finds it equally cool that GMC gets it. Some vets with GMC’s resume might just tell a young assistant like Buckner to go f-off. GMC is taking Buckner’s barking the right way: Buckner wants GMC to be the best he can be. And to win games.

Goodness gracious, this team needs wins.

GMC…gets his contract as it is structured in 2018, is in it’s last year…..they all say the right things when they come into the NFL…and towards the end…we all know what can happen in the middle…McCoy is a very good player…he is not a destroyer…

  2. unbelievable Says:

I wouldn’t think he would have been intimidated in the first place to be honest… doesn’t seem like Buckner’s style / personality from everything we’ve heard about him.

But I like what I’m hearing from GMC. People were worried his feelings would get hurt (which always seemed stupid to me), but he’s embracing the challenge.

Goodness gracious, this team needs wins.

    Amen.

I’ve heard the preseason, 360 degree perspective speak from McCoy before. Let’s see if this marriage is as good as advertised.

  4. Steven007 Says:

This is what you want to hear on both ends of the equation. I agree with Altered. GMC is a very good player but not a destroyer. But he has a chance to be something closer to that this season. As for the click baity title of this article, cue the trolls…

  5. nox Says:

Buckner won’t put up we me first attitudes and less than 100% effort. Look for some young guys to shine under his tutelage.

  6. Robert Says:

so wait, a teacher/manager is there to do his job, and the student/personnel is ok beight taught?

isn’t that how the universe works?

    maybe i missed something.

  7. JimmyJack Says:

It really doesnt matter what Buckner does with GMC. Not nearly as much as what he does with Vita.

Would also like to see Buckner get Gholston providing something. Not much young blood for him to work with.

  8. Steven007 Says:

Good point JimmyJack. Gohlston has always oozed potential; it would be nice to see that realized now.

  9. StPeteBucsFan Says:

This defense has some exciting possibilities! It could be that synergy takes over and the whole becomes greater than the sum of it’s parts.

Perhaps we don’t need a destroyer but 8 really intense hard playing DL in a strong rotation. Perhaps with this depth we can work on becoming relentless.

Relentless is a word I’d love to be able to use to describe our D. After last year seems like it’s still a ways off but who knows.

  10. The Buc Realist Says:

They should have traded GMC!!!!! at least his career is wrapping up!!!! And who is impress with GMC’s career????? don’t you have to accomplish something!!!!!!! Oh that is right, he has won the popularity vote that is now the pro-bowl!!!!!!

And GMC needs to stop think he is funny!!!! That was very racist, what he was saying about the rookie!!!!!! Did anyone ask GMC to dress up as big worm from Friday to every kids birthday parties????? The guy has no clue and should have every camera and mic banned from the non-leader that he is!!!! But he can’t help it!!!!!!!

That C did not stand for “captain media”!!!!!! And she better not be wearing that ” C ” this year, no matter how much she cries!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Steven007 Says:

And…voila, there you have it. Mrs. Sheep and so called fans (AKA: Realist) comes through with his drivel. So what has Aaron Donald accomplished? Suh? Atkins? [crickets]. That’s what I thought, the same as GMC.

  12. Bama Rich Says:

^And I thought this was a Buc fan website…silly me

  13. doolnutts Says:

I really don’t get all the negativity around GMC… Is he Sapp..? No? And you know what? Who cares? Sapp is a hall of famer…. GMC is a great person, Great football player and his cap numbers haven’t put is in any financial distress. What exactly does trading or releasing him do? A lot of question armchair GM’s floating around.. This is NOT Madden..

  14. AlteredEgo Says:

Steven007…curious…a pointed question…were you born in this country ?…

  15. Not there yet Says:

The only thing his resume includes are pro bowls, he’s done nothing in 9 years. Who the hell would be intimidated by Gerald McCoy or his resume, there are three other guys on the roster with Superbowl rings just saying. Brent Buckner has some more than McCoy and done more that actually matters as his team went to there Superbowls, McCoy can’t say that so yeah why be intimated.

I thought the silly articles would end after the draft but guess we have to wait for training camp… So easy to tell who writes what articles now but won’t say Lee’s name oops

  16. Steven007 Says:

Altered, yes I was. Do I sound like a foreigner? That would be amusing if so since I write for a living (poorly, some would agree I’m sure :/)…

  17. AlteredEgo Says:

hmmm….interesting…but I don’t think I know who you are…although the screen name would have made sense heading down the path I was imagining…

  18. teacherman777 Says:

    @buc realist

    hahahahaha

I love GMC but that was funny.

  19. AlteredEgo Says:

GMC was UNTRADEABLE…and while DJAX is….not likely before the trade deadline…and if “America’s QB…can hit his WR’s in stride and on time…DJAX is not the issue…Vern…

  20. Jerry Jones Says:

GMC is not going to bully Buckner that’s for sure and I love it! Buckner knows he has to prove himself this year and he’s not going to let a player stand in his way if they’re not producing.

GMC just seems to be pissed about something all the time in his interviews. I love he plays for us and I’m not hating on him but maybe get him away from the Pen and Mic Club. He says the same thing every year, just in a different way. I don’t need to hear from GMC I know what he brings, give me some new blood like OJ, Godwin, Rojo, Kappa or Davis(Davis tells it like it is!)

Actually, give me some more Duffner.

  21. 813bucboi Says:

no one is intimidated by GMC!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  22. 813bucboi Says:

    buckner sounds like a HC!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  23. Jerry Jones Says:

I agree 813, I’m saying GMC can’t just throw his opinion and weight around from a veterans stand point to Buckner, Buckner gives zero focks.

  24. bigblock690 Says:

That title does not come close to the interview McCoy gave the other day.

  25. AlteredEgo Says:

I must say….May…June…July pie in the sky…this roster has more “young” talent since the late 90’s……

  26. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

GMC is one of the top 3 DT’s in the game, if not #1. He and ME (and potentially #14, if he saw the field) are the only players on the team who are HOF caliber (NOT saying they are going to get in ever, because of W-L, just that they are that caliber talents).

    #FreeTheAmishRifle
    GO BUCS!!!

  27. Joe Says:

So what has Aaron Donald accomplished? Suh? Atkins? [crickets]. That’s what I thought, the same as GMC.

Each has same number of playoff wins.

  28. Steven007 Says:

    Joe, exactly.

That’s a really weak argument considering gmc has never made it to the playoffs and the one year, the only year they got 10 wins he was on injured reserve

  30. Buc believer Says:

And neither is anyone else on the opposing line.

  31. Horse Liver Says:

Buckner — Bucs next Super Bowl winning head coach.

  32. LongSeason Says:

A new assistant coach can as or more important than some of your new players. A new assistant will inherit veteran players and get some new players. The players block, tackle, run, throw and catch. Sometimes they do these things poorly while other times they excel. When a team has done poorly like the Bucs have at defense and the right Defensive assistant pull up his clipboard to the classroom and the practice field he can orchestrate the players he will have to be all-pro caliber. Bucky has the chance to impact the entire Defense.

  33. Trench War Says:

Honestly is anyone actually intimidated by GMC?

  34. Sam Says:

    GMC is a Bitch

  35. gotbbucs Says:

McCoy would be wise do try a year where he doesn’t try to be the center of attention. Doesn’t try to be a “rah-rah” guy.

I don’t think he has it in him to do that, but it would be a very welcome change to see him do his job instead of hear him talk about doing his job.

I pray they limit his snaps on early downs.

  36. Destinjohnny Says:

I know Sapp has his issues but man I wish he was either a scout or coach for us

  37. BoJim Says:

Like him more and more. I think it will carry on into the season. We may get mean!!

  38. Laura Moore Says:

Tough talk from the ladies safely tucked away in their beds. You would never say these things to the man’s face, so no one intelligent is impressed with your false bravado.

  39. Buc believer Says:

Laura GMC is the one that talks tough behind the fences of one Buc with the security guard at the gate. The guy tried to play the “come say it to my face” card last year all the while knowing we would never be allowed in to see him. I guess you don’t remember that.

  40. Duke Says:

    Believe,

I recall one guy showed up, did GMC meet him?
