Logic Needs To Rule The Day

April 26th, 2018

Let’s not get carried away.

Joe just cannot believe the good folks at One Buc Palace would be so naive and narrow-minded.

Yeah, the Bucs re-signed one-trick pony and favorite of Ira Kaufman, Charles Sims, this morning. Joe wouldn’t be shocked if this was a favor to his agent or some hidden sign.

However, Joe just cannot imagine that the Bucs, re-signing Sims to a one-year contract, have taken themselves out of the draft-a-running back market as a result. Some think it may. Annie Sabo of WFLA-TV wondered aloud on Twitter if that is the case.

Joe will just type the following: If anyone with any authority at One Buc Palace passes on Saquon Barkley if he is still there at No. 7 because the team re-signed Sims, then someone or some folks at One Buc Palace need to be drug-tested before they leave the premises this evening.

Joe just cannot imagine the Bucs would prefer Sims over Barkley.

Just a hunch, but the law might have to be dispatched to the Justin Pawlowski/JoeBucsFan draft party if that actually happens.

All-you-can-eat buffet available starting at 6 p.m. and runs all night long. Be there!! Joe and Ira Kaufman will be in the house with the Stick Carriers and The Commish. Raw energy and Bucs love everywhere.

    I smell smoke screen

  2. D-Rome Says:

If Barkley is there and the Bucs pass on him then Licht should be fired on the spot. He won’t do that. No way.

I’m glad the Bucs signed Charles Sims. I believe in the right situation he could be a great weapon. In fact, pair him up with a RB like Barkley (if the Bucs were so lucky) and that backfield looks really good!

  3. BucfanBF Says:

Barkley isn’t coming here so let’s forget about him. Now if they pass on one of the other RB’s available in this draft because they resigned one trick pony Simms then Licht and the entire staff need to be fired the next day.

  4. StPeteBucsFan Says:

We take Chubb DE….he’s not there…we take Barkley….he’s not there it’s Nelson.

Or trade down! If we get close enough to one of the big three and Licht feels the need to gamble and spend a pick from next year to move up…I’m OK with it…IF Licht puts his entire reputation on the pick.

Easiest thing for Licht to do if he’s smart is to trade down no matter what he gets.
If it even looks just OK he should do it for more picks. The picks he then makes will not be top ten primo picks with tons of expectations. Expectation for who Licht selects drop dramatically if he trades out of that top ten spot.

  5. NJBucsFan Says:

I don’t think the Bucs or any NFL will view Simms as a RB that prevents you from drafting a RB in this draft.

  6. Phil Says:

I do not see a way Barkley is still there at number 7.

  7. firethecannons Says:

On board with what St Pete Buc said, one of the three or trade down if they are gone. NO TO DERWIN JAMES AT 7

  8. AKick'nTheBucNuts Says:

We need a real running back in the worst way.

I can only imagine, over the years, how many Buc players were cut, then never played another down for another team in the NFL again.

But we always seem to sign them and/or keep them and then the coaches, GM, Glazers wonder why we suck for so long.

Myswell give the ball to Zsa Zsa, that parrot will work for crackers and won’t dance at the line.

  9. BucFanInNc Says:

In order to trade down, you have to have a partner. James @7 is not a reach if the big 3 are gone. We draft James and the best available cb/rb the next 2 picks. Simple

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Nelson could help Sims look like Walter Payton……

But….we needed 2 RBs……this may keep us from selecting the 2nd…

I am a bit surprised that we didn’t wait until after the draft before signing him but we must have thought he would have been taken by someone else.

I like Sims and think he deserves a place on the roster….

  11. Casual Observer Says:

Still think a RB in round 2.

  12. Mike Johnson Says:

Barkley nor Chubb’s gonna be there. So FORGETABOUTIT!! They are the 2 best players in this years draft along with Nelson. I got us going James at 7 unless somebody wants to move up. And..you never know. I’m not excited about James, But he’s still a good pick and a need.

  13. Eric Says:

    sure they can…..

  14. DB55 Says:

    Minkah > James

    But

    Nelson >>> everybody else.

Did anyone else wake up with nightmares that Jason done fckd this whole draft up or was it just me?

  15. DoSomething Says:

I’d rather trade down with someone who wants him and grab Guice/Michel later. Fill more holes with more picks. Only player I’d take at 7 is Chubb if he’s there

  16. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Big report coming out of N.O.
The saints are in talks for a big move up in the first round….

  17. Bucnjim Says:

I’m sure the Bucs have received some info that has another team taking Barkley early in the draft.

  18. 813bucboi Says:

bo scarbrough!!!!!!….people sleeping on this kid…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!!

  19. Trump's Stylist Says:

Anyone who thinks signing Sims means we won’t take a RB somewhere in 2nd, or trade into 3rd, to get one is high and you need to pass it this way.

  20. Not there yet Says:

Passing on Barkley does not have to be because we resigned Charles Sims, that logic would make people say the writer of this article needs to be drug tested. No one talks about the depth behind todd gurley but I’m sure there are more than 3 running backs on their roster. Sims is fine for depth. Sims and Rodgers play special teams so it’s likely they will be competing for a spot in training camp.

If we get a starting running back in this draft I could see rushers veering the one who gets cut just like Sims, one of them likely won’t be here on opening day

  21. ChanEpic Says:

DB55 – no it wasn’t/isn’t just you. In my dream we drafted Johnny Manziel from Canada and the Joe(s) were ecstatic about the pick.

  22. NFLNut Says:

    WHAT??????????????

I don’t think the Simms signing has any impact on the draft at all … he’s a quality 3rd down back, that’s all … I still expect them to draft a RB … unless they plan to sign CJ Anderson after the draft and roll with Anderson/Barber/Simms/Quizz which is a nice stable

  23. John meeks Says:

TAMPABAYBUCSFAN ,LMAO no one can make Charles Sims look like sweetness, I gotta hit the Jack Daniels on that comment!put the pipe down 😂😂😂😂😂😂

  24. Joe Says:

DB55 – no it wasn’t/isn’t just you. In my dream we drafted Johnny Manziel from Canada and the Joe(s) were ecstatic about the pick.

    Love Johnny!

  25. Grt1 Says:

Don’t you need another team to trade with to trade down? Stop saying trade down like it’s a legitimate option. If it is then we’ll never know so. Man some fans are just idiots!

  26. John meeks Says:

Grt1,with the qb class coming out next year (awful class )If a team needs a qb they will make the move to trade up tonight so it is very poss9the bucs trade down from pick7.some fans may not be stupid, rather more informed than individuals like yourself who obviously doesn’t study the draft like us real football fans do!soccer would love an uneducated fan like you!!

  27. John meeks Says:

Joe,you want a shot of this Jack Daniels???

  28. Topdoggie Says:

I am a die-hard fan. I would not watch a game this season if they did that. Now if someone gave a Kings ransom to get him from us I might calm down. A team might give us a two first and a second for the best player in the draft.

  29. IAN B Says:

re-signing Sims as I called a couple weeks ago was a smart move, a vet who knows the system and provides depth as a 3rd down back and special teamer. if anything could throw another team off the scent in the 2nd round if a RB they like is on the board and they feel a need to move ahead of the Bucs to get him.

And if Barkley falls to 7 highly doubt we pass because of Sims, lol

  30. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

    The RB madness is silly.
Even sports cars get stuck in traffic without open lanes.

    Fix the real problem.
    Grab Nelson if he falls
Grab a young DE in round 2
The draft is deeeeep at RB and DB

FIX THE TRENCHES, FIX THE BUCS!!

  31. Joel Says:

Barkley still on the board at #7???

    Bwaaahahahahahaha!!!

  32. Joel Says:

Top 6 in no partivular order:

    2 of those weak QBs.
    Barkley
    Chubb
    Nelson
    LB from UGA

  33. Defense Rules Says:

What Licht will do is the worst kept secret in Tampa Bay. IF one of the Big-3 are there, he grabs him. IF none are there, he tries to trade down & get AT LEAST 1 extra high pick. IF he can’t trade down, he’ll go with BPA on the Bucs’ board who fills a PRIORITY NEED (QBs, WRs, TEs need not apply). Could be any one of a half dozen (or more) players depending on how the Bucs have ranked their PRIORITY NEEDS. If they asked me (and no, they’re smart enough not to), I’d grab Fitzpatrick, Vea, Ward or James in the 1st Rnd (I’d be happy with any of them) then grab the best RB in the 2nd Rnd (assuming we couldn’t work a trade down of course).

  34. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

Don’t look too much into this. Sims seemed very productive as a receiver, especially in his almost exclusive “Third down back” role. At the very least it could be a smoke screen to a team thinking we won’t draft a RB.

  35. mcruzer Says:

You guys are going to laugh but I have a strange feeling that Barkley is going to drop and I am opposed to taking him at 7. With Barkley, would be able to score 50 points every game and still lose by a margin with Brees, Ryan and Newton in our division. You guys saw the same games I did last year with opposing QB’s going 9 for 9 on drives while they carved up our secondary. Now some of that was a lack of pass rush but man did our secondary suck. We have to fix it. if we continue ignoring it year after year, our offensive skill players will be gone in a year or two to free agency, and then we are back to square one.

  36. Pistol Pete Says:

There is a really fun draft simulator online that I have been playing with this afternoon.
Both 7 round drafts I have selected Chubb at 7 and Mike Hughes @ Round 2 Pick 6.
I am sure I can’t cut and paste the link here, but easy to find on google.
    Here is my 2nd draft:
1: R1 P7 EDGE BRADLEY CHUBB NC STATE
    2: R2 P6 CB MIKE HUGHES UCF
    3: R4 P2 OT JOSEPH NOTEBOOM TCU
    4: R5 P7 RB MARK WALTON MIAMI
    5: R6 P6 S QUIN BLANDING UVA

  37. Guzzie Says:

It’s so freaking obvious Licht has no idea how to BUILD a team, he’s had 4 years, and every year all he does is fix last years problems, example no QB get Winston, no WR get DJ, no DL, no RB, etc it’s always a year too late when it’s easy to see next years problems, our GM is reactionary

  38. Alpha Buc fan Says:

Haha joe that’s really funny about drafting Johnny football from Canada

  39. Orlando Buc Says:

Saquon Barkley will most likely be picked before we draft. Is it possible the news of Sony Michele possible injury means the Bucs believe they may miss out on the second tier of RBs in round 2?

I have never forgotten that in the 2007 draft the Bucs passed on Adrian Peterson and Marshawn Lynch in order to get Gaines Adams.

  40. Kobe Faker Says:

“Like Kobe has stated. Quenton Nelson will be available at 7 and Forrest Gump will PASS!”

    Kobe the Parrot

  41. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Guzzie

You actually just outlined The goals of what a good GM is supposed to do. See a weakness then try to fix the weakness. All the good teams do this.

  42. Tbbucs3 Says:

No way the Bucs get Barkley and it’s not even that big a deal. Sure it’s the flashy pick but running backs are easier of a position to fill later in the draft than a defensive players. The thinking will be to fill a massive void on defense in the 1st round then try to find a running back IMMEDIATELY afterwards.

Whoever that defensive player is I don’t know nor care about the name….all I care about is that this particular player pans out and makes the defense better.

  43. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I would take either Chubb or Nelson over Barkley. They are the safest picks in this draft. Especially Nelson.

But none of them will be there. Only 2 QBs will go before our pick at best.

  44. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Btw…how did Dalvin Cook do last year?

  45. Tbbucs3 Says:

Josh Allen’s tweets really kicked us in the nuts right before the draft.

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    John meeks Says:
“Grt1,with the qb class coming out next year (awful class ) ”

The same was said last year about this year’s class. No one can seriously predict that because some QB might make a giant leap forward in his Junior or Senior year.

I guarantee a QB will go first overall next year…probably to the Browns.

  47. DB55 Says:

Josh Allen’s tweets are no big deal. Sounds like a kid who has diverse friends. No one I know is even mad.

  48. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Guzzie,

If you don’t think Licht has been doing a good job of building this team through the draft, you are blind.

He’s got limited picks each year. Did you consider that the weaknesses are glaring because he addressed other areas?

We have a franchise QB. We have 3 franchise LBs. We have 2 franchise TEs. We have a Franchise Guard. We have 1-2 Franchise WRs.

That is pretty darn good…better than any GM in Bucs history.

  49. Doit Bucs Says:

We be better off with a walk on rrunning back then Sims. That is the worst move this off season.

  50. Ndog Says:

The fact that they brought Simms back is just sicking. How any professional football man can watch him play and think he sould be on the field needs to find a new career.

  51. Mcruzer Says:

    Dead right on Cook Bonzai

  52. Doit Bucs Says:

Lets see 31 other teams could of sign him. So we want a running back that 31 teams did not want. Only thing we can hope for is a walk on that can push him out the door.
