An Ivy League Receiver

April 28th, 2018

Fifth round pick Justin Watson.

Could this be Adam Humphries II?

The Bucs, with good luck in the Ivy League with tight end Cameron Brate, decided to tap a guy we might be working for in 15 years, wide receiver Justin Watson from Penn.

No, Joe does not know if he is related to Rachel Watson.

At any rate, enjoy Watson’s highlights below.

What makes him Humphries II? He’s 6’3″ with straight line speed and ups

  2. MadMax Says:

    4.44 speed and 6’3….yes, i like

  3. QBKilla Says:

Let’s hope he’s Joe Jurevicous II.

  4. K_Bassuka Says:

    Booooooooooo! Camp meat!

  5. MadMax Says:

    That Rachel….still looking great.

  6. Wesley Says:

Pedestrian highlights nothing special. Tall kid with long arms though.

  7. Couch Fan Says:

3 straight years of 1000+ yards and 8+ TDs. Good size, good speed, good hands. Good pick.

JUSTIN WATSON is a SUPER FREAK!

At his pro day he put up numbers, that had he been invited to the Combine would have been:

    40 Time: 5th fastest
    Vertical First!!!!
    Bench Press: Fourth
    Broad Jump: Top 10
    Shuttle: Top 10

    PLUS HE’S 6’3, 225 LBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Great article:

Note: This is likely Desean Jackson’s last season in Tampa … Evans/Godwin/Watson/Humphries/Bobo/OJ/Brate/Auclair … we’re loaded even without DJax in 2019.

Just read a couple of articles about him and saw vids on his pro day. This dude looks IMPRESSIVE!! 40’ vertical at 6’3” !!! 20 reps of 225 lbs…Now let’s talk about his 40 time…Said watches had him at 4.35 to 4.42..They decided to go with the latter time, then there was BS about some 0.03 timing discrepancy added to make it 4.45 but we know that’s conservative!! Dude caught every ball in his pro-day…Excellent hands! No way this guy is camp meat…This dude is Adam Thailand 2.0 with bigger size & explosion!!! Gotta feeling this dude is gonna force himself on the field…Great pic!!!

  10. MadMax Says:

Alright, correct myself, 6’2….dude was a sleeper. Nice pick!

  11. SOEbuc Says:

This kid is beastly. Would like to see him impress at training camp and make the team.

  12. lambchop Says:

He’s compared to Thielen. Hump has some competition at the very least.

  13. NFLNut Says:

Camp meat? Camp meat? You’re out your mind imho … Watson could be better than Humphries from Day 1 and a top flight #3 receiver by his 2nd year.

Don’t let the small school fool you … this kid can fly, jump out of the gym, is extremely strong, and is a monster 6’3, 225 for a WR.

If he would have transferred when the big schools came calling after his sophomore season and had played last year at an SEC school he would have been a 2nd round pick imho

His comp is the Patriots Chris Hogan but he could be better than him as well.

  14. Red86 Says:

Looks like “RUN JOE RUN” Joe Jurevicous but faster. Hopes he stick around. Having Evan, Godwin, Watson, and OJ Howard in a red zone set is scary height wise.

  15. MadMax Says:

    testing 1,2,3

  16. MadMax Says:

post is in mod, then the next wouldnt post lol

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

All these comparisons to white guys…..I’m just sayin’…….looks like a shorter, faster Mike Evans to me…..why not?

  18. MadMax Says:

Look at that one handed catch at the 10 second mark….oh yeah!!!

  19. Dirty Bucs Says:

I love taking a shot on a guy with these measurables in the 5th round. Huge upside! I’m a fan of the pick.

  20. Kevinator Says:

Great pick. Size, speed, and great hands. Keeping the offense stacked for the future. Looks like we are taking BPA for the rest of the draft.

  21. MadMax Says:

Whoever is scouting for the Bucs did some good work with this one….

  22. Gofortheface30 Says:

Ahhh, he’s white so he must be the same kind of player as Adam Humphries, got it…eyeroll

    As others have mentioned:

6-2 215 4.4 40. Hes going to be a y or an x receiver, you can count on that

  23. Joeypoppems Says:

I dont mind the pick. Wonder if this means they wont pay Hump next year

  24. BucEmUp Says:

I think the only reason they signed humph to a one year deal is possible trade bait down the road.

  25. Wausa Says:

40″ vertical and one of his 40 times at his pro day was sub 4.4

  26. BucEmUp Says:

Yo notice how he catches everything with his hands and not his body? Holy crap I didn’t realize how big this guy was DeSean Jackson can kisses goodbye as well this will be our new outside receiver with God when rotating with somebody in the slot

  27. Jjones Says:

Patriots were high on this kid, great pick!

  28. BucHead5588 Says:

Reminds me of Thielen from Min

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Sleeper WR in the draft.

  30. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Imagine the matchup nightmare if we had Brate, Howard, Evans & Watson on the field at the same time……

    WOW….do we miss ASJ?…….No

  31. Rod Munch Says:

The people penciling him in as a starting WR…

Will you guys ever learn, ever? He’s a 5th round pick, if he even makes the team that is win for him – and you dopes are saying they should immediately cut Jackson and give him his roster spot. LOL! I really do wonder if most of you have IQs that make it out of the low 70s sometimes.

  32. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“Will you guys ever learn, ever? He’s a 5th round pick, if he even makes the team that is win for him – and you dopes are saying they should immediately cut Jackson and give him his roster spot.”

I think that is exactly the goal for Jason Licht. He obviously had bigger needs in the earlier rounds, but this kid is good.

    Six spots for WRs, right?

    The locks are:
    Mike Evans
    Desean Jackson (this year)
    Adam Humphries
    Chris Godwin

He will compete for one of two spots with:
    Freddie Martino
    Bobo Wilson
    Jake Lampman
    Devin Lucien

If he is even halfway good, how can he not make the team????

  33. Rod Munch Says:

Bonzai – Yeah, he should make the team, but it’s not a guarantee by any means. He has great miserables and he’ll get the benefit of the doubt since he was a 5th rounder. I’d guess that Bobo and him are the 5 and 6 this offseason with Jackson and Hump gone next year and these two moving up. Bobo I think can be a 1-for-1 replacement for Hump, he looked pretty solid and assuming he doesn’t get himself thrown off the team I think he’s lock, unless he’s so unbearable they just don’t want him around. This kid, we’ll have to see, the WR coach loves him and pushed for the pick, so hopefully that inside knowledge means the Bucs get a great deal. But letting him sit and learn for a year is a good thing as most of the time rookie WR’s take a year or two to develop, in particular ones coming in from small schools.

  34. Mike Johnson Says:

Kids a ..Long shot to even make this team. Hope he can play special teams..for his sake!

  35. JimmyJack Says:

Looking forward to seeing what he can do in August.

  36. TOM Says:

I think he will easily make the team. I also think he will be good enough that the Bucs would dangle Jackson as trade bait. I can’t believe how people put some of these kids down before they even put on a jersey. They all deserve a chanceto prove themselves. They’re Bucs now we should all be behind them to succeed.
