“I Don’t Want To See A Training Camp Practice Without A Fight”

April 27th, 2018

Change coming to practice

Dirk Koetter has been accused of running feathery soft training camps.

Joe asked Koetter in March whether that was ridiculous, and Koetter had no interest in answering the question.

Whether or not you believe Koetter’s no tackling to the ground in camp practices led to soft Bucs teams is irrelevant and an outdated thought.

What Joe finds interesting is what Koetter might do this year.

Think about what has changed in the trenches– in no particular order.

  1. Veteran lunch-pail grinders were added to the defensive line, four of them: stud defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, new Super Bowl winners Beau Allen and Vinny Curry, and Mitch Unrein.
  2. 6-4, 347-pound defensive tackle Vita Vea was just drafted and he can’t wait to bury people.
  3. New Ryan Jensen is the highest paid center in the NFL and is known for being very nasty.
  4. Third-round pick, Division II guard Alex Cappa has a reputation for being a violent mauler, and he’s 6-6.

Koetter has to let these guys compete, beat each other up and toughen up in training camp. Right?

How could he not?

Consider that Allen and Curry are used to live hitting in practice with the Eagles. And the Bucs still have hungry Noah Spence fighting for playing time and DE Will Gholston is a banger at 6-6, 285 pounds who is battling for a prominent role. Donovan Smith and Ali Marpet are salivating entering their contract season.

It should be quite a show when the pads come on in three short months.

As NFL Network analyst Peter Schrager said of the Bucs tonight on NFL Network: “I don’t want to see a training camp practice without a fight.”

    I love it joe.

  2. Jeffbuc Says:

A physical football team. I bet Mccoy is chasing chickens, drinking raw eggs, and beating up dead cows right now so he doesn’t get left behind with all this nasty we just brought in.

  3. DB55 Says:

I’ll believe it when I see it. Best wishes and good luck. GO BUCS!!

  4. Thespiritof1976 Says:

Draft Shaq Griffin tomorrow and Bucs practice will look like an alpba male convention.

  5. Dubcity06 Says:

Gotta love it. The CBs play nasty too. Kwon mentality takeover

  6. Thespiritof1976 Says:

This team needed a shot of testosterone anyway…..

  7. Eric Says:

Guy is wearing a softball shirt, maybe he is good at that.

  8. Jeffbuc Says:

I looked at the draft comparisons from our draft pick if they live up to who they are compared to it will be a heck of a draft. Vita-ngati. Jones-Charles. Stewart-mycah Hyde. Davis-Sherman. Cappa-Orlando Franklin

  9. Kelvin Says:

Maybe for the first time in more than a decade we can say we have a nasty team makeup for a change. So needed. We’ve been soft as toilet paper since we won the Super Bowl without a real identity neither on offense not defense. Now we have the look of a very competitive football team looking to kick some a$$ out there! FINALLY!

  10. SOEbuc Says:

Glazers and Licht will not allow Koetter to run a soft ass camp with all these mega monsters they’ve added. Especially with an indoor facility where they’re not under the hot sun everyday.

  11. LifeOfABucFan Says:

It’s a head banger, rock and roll type tough guys..I love it Joe!! I have a lady boner tonight with the guys we got..THESE ARE NOT softies!!!

Nasty, brute force, violent players is what I want to see..I want NFL teams to FEAR us!

  12. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Spiritof76..I want ShaqG. too!!! Want to talk about an alpha male? Oooooh man, this will be a lit team!

  13. Horse Liver Says:

I wish it was Koetter and not Schrager saying that.

  14. Lucious Selmon Says:

I want to see what a lady boner looks like.

  15. Capt.Tim Says:

    I dont care meaner.
    I care smarter
This was a , Um, stupid team last year.

    Smarter team this year

  16. teacherman777 Says:

Ade Aruna is still on the board!

    6-5, 261, 4.6 speed!

African immigrant, still learning the game. Huge upside!

    Perry Nickerson too! Tulane CB

4.33 at the combine. Shut down corner for Tulane.

We drafted tow corners who run over a 4.5

We need a fast corner too!!

  17. Bird Says:

    Agree joe.

I love the kappa pick. I guess he will compete for left guard now since he played left tackle?

Looks like right tackle potential replacement as well?

Other bucs sites had this guy in all mocks. The bucs loved him and think they showed to much love actually. That is why they moved at end of third and not wait until #2 pick of forth. They were worried a team would come up to get him before bucs going all in and flipping over their cards

  18. Buc believer Says:

GMC is trying to tone the rhetoric down about the Bucs having a training camp with a fight. I think he was overheard in a local florist buying his pansies or maybe it was in a comic book store buying the latest Batman comic book saying he doesn’t want to see an actual fight. But some heated words may be used.

  19. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The Stick Carriers will be there in force for training camp…and gone in droves by game 3.

  20. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Since Cappa will change positions anyway…why keep him on the left? Put Marpet where he belongs. Have Cappa play right guard.

Unless Koetter thinks Marpet can keep the right from collapsing as it usually does…
