Strong McCoy-To-Raiders Rumor

March 6th, 2018

“That guy’s a baller, man. Gimme 93 and Khalil Mack and I’ll show you offensive coordinators shakin’ every damn week.”

Well, well, well, how bout this for intrigue.

And what a mighty bold move it would be.

ESPN, specifically Hall of Fame voter Mike Sando, has been in touch with NFL executives and says they have either “proposed, vetted and/or heard rumors” of a potential Gerald McCoy trade.

And the ol’ ball coach, Chucky, is the guy interested.

4. The Oakland Raiders send a 2018 second-round pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for DT Gerald McCoy.

Defensive tackle is a big question mark for the Raiders. McCoy, who turned 30 last month, remains a front-line player at the position. He is signed through 2020, with base salaries between $10 million and $13 million, and only $500,000 of proration remaining, all in 2018.

Tampa Bay could use its early picks to revamp its defensive line, with an emphasis on outside rushers. There was some question among execs whether McCoy would command a second-round pick at age 30 and whether the Buccaneers could comfortably part with him.

Buffalo could be another logical destination for McCoy. Tampa Bay could conceivably ask for defensive end Jerry Hughes as part of its return for McCoy. Hughes is scheduled to earn $7.35 million in salary and bonuses for each of the next two seasons. Sending receiver DeSean Jackson to Kansas City for Dee Ford was another suggested trade to help the Bucs’ pass rush, despite doubts over whether the Chiefs would be interested in Jackson at this stage.

Whoa!

Is a second-round pick enough for McCoy? Maybe, at this stage in his career. McCoy has eight years in the NFL and guys in his position rarely deliver 10 years of quality football. Still, in this hypothetical, Joe would want to see the Bucs get back more for McCoy, like an additional fourth-round draft pick at least.

Are the Bucs shopping McCoy? They should be. That’s not an anti-McCoy statement; it’s just a reality of what an NFL team owning the 32nd-ranked defense should explore in order to rebuild that unit for the future.

Stay tuned.

  1. Chucklehead Says:

If I were GMC I would encourage the team to consider this deal.

  2. RonRicoFSU Says:

Why trade the only good DL you have??? STOP

  3. Hunter Says:

    Stop spreading this gardage reporting
Dude, it’s a Hall of Fame voter writing in an ESPN story. So Joe should ignore it? That doesn’t serve the fans. It’s been up at ESPN for hours. Haven’t heard of the Bucs media officials killing the rumor. –Joe

  4. Fanalyzer34 Says:

The D-Jax to KC for Dee Ford would make a lot of sense. Not much for trading GMC

  5. NFLNut Says:

I’d ask for a 2nd and 4th and settle on a 2nd and 5th … you can get a starting DT in the 2nd and another very good backup DT in the 5th … and then use the extra cap space unloading GMC brings to sign a starting CB like Malcolm Butler or even a DE/SS combo like Kony Ealy/Tre Boston …. DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. 1Gr8Buc Says:

If we can get more than one draft pick this year than do it. Im with you joe, a 2nd and 4th sounds pretty good to me, although it probably unlikely we get a pick that high with that 2nd rounder.

  7. Chucklehead Says:

Hey, I like the dude. Great player and I want him to finish his career here. But, I would be happy to get traded at this point if I were him. The majority of his prime playing time here in Tampa has been with a dumpster fire defense and the team never built anything around him.

  8. University of Seffner Says:

I definitely love Gerald McCoy, and yes I do know his best years are probably behind him. If we can get a 2nd round pick, and another pick in a late round, I’d strongly consider trading McCoy. On the flip side, if we do trade him, we’ll
be sending our best Defensive Lineman who was a part of the disastrous performance by the Defensive Line last season away, pretty much leaves us with nothing on the DL. We all know we need DLinemen, but is it worth it to punch another hole leaving us with nothing to go against opposing offenses?

  9. Florida Joe Says:

This is the best news I’ve heard in a long time. And to get a second round pick for an aging 30 year old who is overrated with an awful contract

    Nobrainer. Do it Licht

  10. DanBucsFan Says:

Im waiting on Tmaxon to respond to this. Imo. he is more valuable to us than a 2nd round pick, but thats just my view.

  11. Drew aka q Says:

Mccoy is garbage … overrated by buc fans who do not watch in depth football

  12. Destinjohnny Says:

Trade him we are 3 drafts away

  13. Maddognavy Says:

Just stupid, McCoy isn’t going anywhere

  14. Pit Says:

    Do it! Do it!

  15. Mr. Ed Says:

This is the stupidest thing I have ever read on this website. If Licht sends one of the best three defensive tackles in the NFL to the Raiders….Fwhen the DL is already in dire need of an upgrade……..FOR A SECOND ROUNDER……..then Licht deserves to be fired the second it happens.

So Chiucky instructed one of his flunkies to go and yabber about this in the press, and maybe Chucky is hoping to sew some discontent with McCoy — but this is such bullocks.

The crap I read around here.

  16. The Buc Realist Says:

I heard a similar rumor a little while ago but about another team from my sources!!!!!!!! But if you are hearing about a trade, it usually means that someone is trying to get a higher bidder!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Skoorb Says:

    I hope that’s just nonsense

  18. Seminole bill Says:

You have to be kidding. We have a DT who is a perennial all-pro, and we want to trade him? for who? Another d-lineman?

  19. USFBUC Says:

This would be a bold move to trade GMC. I have been calling for the Bucs to trade DJax since the offseason started. I think this move could also signal a change in defensive front since I believe I have read before that GMC refused to play DE in a 34 front.

  20. USFBUC Says:

I don’t think the Bucs go all rookies on the defensive line though so there would be some acquisitions too

  21. Lamarcus Says:

I’ll take a 7th round supplemental pick in 2032 for him like yesterday

  22. Mr. Ed Says:

If Licht wants to ever have a jobb in the NFL again, he’d better get the Raiders 2018 1st and 2nd picks and a CB. Otherwise no deal.

  23. Lamarcus Says:

Or I would blantantly cut him.

  24. Buc believer Says:

    Bye Bye Batman!!!

  25. Lamarcus Says:

This would be my dream. If that happens I GUARANTEE I GUARANTEE. I REPEAT GUARANTEE. The Bucs floor would be 8-8 at worse. 10 and 6 and playoffs here we go. If he stays the Bucs in the basement at 3-13

  26. tmaxcon Says:

Licht gets a lot of credibility back if he can get anything higher than a 5th for a career loser and undisputed face of the basement years… eradicate cancer93 give these young guys some hope.

  27. Bobby M. Says:

Must be a kicker in the draft Licht is after…..

  28. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Trade him and make the KC deal, bucs win 5 games/year with him maybe more without him

  29. SOEbuc Says:

Needs to be traded. Don’t care if he’s on our dline or not we haven’t been to the playoffs in 13 years. Get the best deal we can. Rebuild with the picks and cap space.

  30. Pelbuc Says:

Would love for GMC and DJax to be traded away for more picks and Dee Ford. With McCoy we’ve always had a crap defense so let’s see what we have without him. Plus build for the future. Get plenty of Dlinemen and DBs in the draft and also get a RB and Olineman/center and at least the fan base will see possible hope in the future.

  31. JimBuc Says:

Koetter and Licht, both fighting for their future, are going to trade a Pro Bowl DT off a team that needs pass rush . . for a pick? I call BS

  32. Bucsfan1988 Says:

I’m cool shipping GMC93 for draft pics…Raiders won’t give up their 1st for him though. I’d love to see a 2nd & 4th if possible or even a lower 1st from another team. If we do that, then I’d like us to trade our 7th pic and move down. See if Buffalo will give us 21st & 22nd 1st rounds pics for our 7th. That would give us artillery to bring in some talent and start fresh on defensive line. McCoy is 30 and has a huge cap hit. Our defense overall won’t be worse than it is now. Bring some young blood in that are motivated, have good work ethic, and aren’t saturated in the “losing cancer” that has been festering with this overall defense’s mentality.

  33. DB55 Says:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I just downloaded the Raiders app say it isn’t so. I’m saying now I can’t follow my boy Gruden with this guy on Gruden’s team.

Gruden can’t be that dumb a second rounder? Gtfoh. Knowing Licht he’ll draft a kicker, linebacker or receiver. Heck he might draft a qb, lmao.

Not sure what’s worse the Bucs org or Trumps administration, both dumpster fires.

  34. Waterboy Says:

    I’d push for a 2nd and 4th.

  35. Defense Rules Says:

By all means, let’s blow up what little DLine remains. Put GMC on the trading block, cut Ayers, no reason to re-sign McDonald since he’s always injured. Siliga’s a free agent (not that great anyways) and Stevie T is coming off the IR list (maybe). So now we’ve got no DTs, an oft-injured Noah Spence at DE as well as sackless Will Gholston. I say use all 8 of our 2018 picks to fill the DLine spots that are now open. Surely all 8 will hit and we’ll be OK.

  36. donuts Says:

    GMC just tweeted:
Well well well free agency on its way and the draft in the near future will cause people to write anything. TRADE……….. IM NOT LEAVING!!

I think he dropped the mic.

  37. BFFL Says:

Probably just bs but i can at least fantasize

  38. tmaxcon Says:

    Defense Rules

Now you are getting it. out with the trash that we’ve been losing with… its not like the new guys can be much worse

  39. Bucsfan951 Says:

Give me a 2nd rd and a 4th rd and we’ll give you our 7th rd and McCoy. He gone!

  40. Mr. Ed Says:

Mike Sando is the new biggest cretin in the NFL press. What a maroon.

  41. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

I have been a proponent of unloading GMC and his bloated salary, but folks this isn’t happening. News flash gang, Reggie McKenzie is the GM in Oakland, not Gruden, and even though Garden has a ton of reach there obviously, Reggie comes off a pretty bright personnel tree in Green Bay. Reggie ain’t taking on a 30 year old fierceless oft-injured dude with 12.5 mill per on his remaining 2 years. That’s stupid, Reggie’s not.

    Go Bucs! Go Barkley!

  42. DB55 Says:

Maybe if we’re lucky we can sign Le’Veon Bell, lol, gotta do it right guys?

  43. Turn Off the Licht Says:

He’s not leaving people!! This makes no sense he is the only half decent D Lineman we’ve got. What we need to do is surround him with playmakers that can also get to the quarterback!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  44. BFFL Says:

I take 4th, really good DTs in this draft. Draft Vita, retain McDonald and maybe sign Poe for insurance

  45. Mr. Ed Says:

BFFL, did you fall on your head really hard recently?

  46. Dave Says:

I don’t see how they Licht or Koetter would either one support this move. Their necks are literally on the chopping block so they surely have a ‘WIN RIGHT NOW!’ approach. A second rounder rookie sounds riskier than the production they will get out of McCoy.

  47. Lamarcus Says:

I’ll be trading him for free. Just have GMC.

  48. tmaxcon Says:

A cancer93 trade is the ultimate addition by subtraction…. draft pick is just gravy…. pull the trigger licht give the young players hope. Eradicate the disease

  49. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    This isn’t happening! Lol

  50. NOT COOL TO USE THE NAME OF THE GUY WHO RUNS THIS SITE Says:

This isn’t even a rumor. This was just the writer proposing good trades teams should make. Goodness, reporting has to be better than this smh

  51. Lamarcus Says:

    Tmaxcon

Ur right man. Addition by subtraction

    Cut the Cancer

  52. tmaxcon Says:

    Lamarcus

It’s truly the only hope the young leaders have to succeed. the cancer that is the leader of the losing culture must go

  53. adam from ny Says:

i would trade him on lack of leadership alone…the fact that it took 16 weeks for him to speak up to swaggy a bit shows said dude can’t led – even with tenure and a multitude of pro bowls…he shoulda been all over swaggy in camp after swaggy gave “his” kickers slack on hard knocks…he is not a leader…sapp woulda mushed swaggy’s grill right on the show while he was sexing up that tree…boom!

  54. adam from ny Says:

the reason the line really sucked is because word out of the locker room is swaggy was the man on the dline…go figure that!

  55. PleadingBuc Says:

Nothing agains McCoy, but this would likely be best for all involved at this point.

  56. MadMax Says:

Or like I said the other day, trade him and next years first to Indy (another D line needy team) for their 3rd pick this year for Chubb…then draft his replacement at #7.

or raiders 2nd….meh, could be more if we play hardball and say also a 5th…hmm.

  57. Kalind Says:

I wouldn’t do it for the Raiders first round pick

  58. Chrisco4Bucs Says:

If they trade GMC, they may as well trade me, getting fed up with dumb ass ownership and coaches/GM

  59. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

If I were McCoy I would push to get out of Loserville and reunite with Chucky!!! He would win more with Chucky and the Raiders than he would with Koetter, Smith, Licht and the Bucs!!!! Get out of Dodge Gerald and give yourself a chance before you get to old and can’t!!!

  60. Frank Pillow Says:

Do it. Do it. Do it. The entire line needs to be blown up. You can fjust nd similar production- actual production- not hyperbole-from FA and the draft. It’s time for an enema around here

  61. webster Says:

    @ imatandybucs fan

Reunite with chucky? Gerald never played under chucky. Do you guys see why fans from other teams laugh at tampa fans for stupidity? Do you see why i always post to educate yourselves? We have a supposedly buc fan telling mccoy to “reunite” with gruden when mccoy never played under gruden. Smgdh

  62. MadMax Says:

    ^LOL

  63. Greecosuave Says:

McCoy isn’t going anywhere. The only sound thing you could do is trade into the first round with him. Not seeing it happening. What does the Sage say?

  64. webster Says:

    @ joe

You block many posters for disrespecting you or this site. You really need to block the uneducated fans who type things like gruden “reuniting” with mccoy. Its cool to have various opinions based on facts but letting posters type alternative facts brings down the credibility. Mccoy “reuniting” with chucky. Gtfooh

  65. Mr. Ed Says:

Bucs fans continue to be the dumbest fans in the NFL. Stupendously dumb.

  66. Eric Says:

About a 2% chance we would get as good a player as McCoy with that second rounder.

    Chucky would love this though.

  67. Jp_09 Says:

If they could get a second, they should, you could then sign Suh with the cap space added from the GMC trade (basically a 1 for 1 swap cap wise) also go get Richardson and Johnson (and yes we can afford both of them). Then using the second round pick from the trade plus our first move up and grab Chubb, I’d even throw in a third from 2019 to move up.

  68. Jp_09 Says:

NVM, I thought Suh was a FA this year, but he’s still under contract with the find

  69. Mr. Ed Says:

Suh for McCoy? The Moronics are propagating. The Dolphins are not getting rid of Suh. Idiots.

  70. JimmyJack Says:

Wouldn’t mind trading McCoy but would rather see him traded for a player rather then draft picks.

  71. BUCKMAN Says:

THERE WILL BE NO LET DOWN ON THE LINE WITH HIM GONE !!!!

  72. Jp_09 Says:

No sh@t ED, apparently you can’t read, hence the next thing I posted stated I THOUGHT Suh was a FA

  73. webster Says:

    @ mr ed

Suh is due to be paid 28 mil this year and 29 mil next. There were rumblings 3 weeks ago that suh could be a cap casualty. Its not far fetched that he could become a free agent.

  74. BuccaneEric75 Says:

The way I see it, and I’m not a McCoy basher, is that by the time we’re ready to complete, he’ll be in decline. I’d trade him for Joes idea of a 2 and a 4 and get younger on the D line. How many 30 year olds in league history get traded for a 1st rounder? My guess is not many. This could be the first step to build a D-line of the future. Does anyone think we’re making the playoffs this year? If not, why keep McCoy? I see a lot of Koetter/Licht bashing recently. Wouldn’t the bashers want to move McCoy to increase the odds on a bad season so they get fired? Just throwing that out there because if YOU want them gone it will take another non playoff year for that to happen. I see it as : keep McCoy and lose, or trade McCoy for assets and still lose. Seems like an easy decision to me. We need to stop thinking about next season and think a few years down the road.

  75. Lord Cornelius Says:

    Damn.

    I ‘m down.

Do this for another 2nd. Move back with the Cardinals for another 2nd. That’d be 3 2nds and 4 picks in the top 47. Get 3 new 3-4 defensive front players + CB; all BPA; then use 3rd/4th on OG/RB BPA – possibly trading up if necessary using late picks. Whatever lest to 3-4 defensive front players

    Boom

  76. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Also, if Winston gets suspended this season, is McCoy going to matter or not? Probably not. Trade McCoy, build for the future of the team. Maybe we can compete in 2019 with the help from the assets in a McCoy trade. I’m not expecting more than 6 wins this season, maybe less if Winston is out for an extended period. Build a young D to go with the QB. Sorry if I sound like I don’t like McCoy, I do, I just think we’re too far away to bank on him when we’re good. Pull a Belichick and sell a year early, not a year late.

  77. Not there yet Says:

It’s time for a new leader for this defense outs as soft as it was the day he arrived. Trade him and revamp the defense because that white get off has been useless in Tampa

This is a gruden type move and we’ve been losers since he got drafted, what’s the worse that could happen if he gets traded we’d end up with one of worst defenses in the nfl instead of being like 31st?

  78. Rod Munch Says:

Nonsense, it isn’t happening. The Bucs need to be adding guys like Quinn, not doing a rebuild. Saying you take one of the best DT’s in the league and trade him away because you have Ryan Smith and Chris Conte playing is really really dumb. Here’s a better idea, don’t have Ryan Smith and Chris Conte on the field.

  79. DB55 Says:

    ————–
Well duh! He and McDonald owned that line.

  80. NFLNut Says:

    A 2nd and 4th = GMC GONE

  81. bucs_365 Says:

So some people want to trade our best player for the last 8 years. We need to build up the Dline, not take a step back. This is retarded.

  82. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Bucs365, he doesn’t have that much time left.

  83. Hodad Says:

If McCoy has any chance of making the playoffs it would be with the Raiders. This is a win, win for both McCoy, and the Bucs. Gerry, I wish thee well.

  84. IsrBuc Says:

Time to move on. Get what you can, this wasn’t working anyway.

  85. Joseph Mamma Says:

The real story here is that Joe used ESPN instead of the usual BSPN. Very intriguing.

  86. Capt.Tim Says:

I would love to see McCoy traded to a playoff contender.
    He is an incredible player
This team has wasted enough years of his career

He deserves to escape this cesspool

  87. derrickbrooksforGM Says:

Hey Joel, This is Jason. I want to see what you thought about trading for some defensive line help, haven’t heard from you in a couple of months. I hope you’re getting my messages… ok well.. bye.

  88. derrickbrooksforGM Says:

According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, the Bucs picked up the one-year options for 2018 on right tackle Demar Dotson, safety Chris Conte, and defensive back Josh Robinson.

^^^HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA Joe you know what this means?! You can stop with the trade/FA posts… bucs ain’t gonna do sheeeeeeet this offseason.

  89. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

This is a fake story. Think about it…McCoy is the only solid guy on the DL. Licht would never let him go for less than a first rounder.

Regardless of what TMax and a few others might believe.

The Bucs would have to replace him immediately.

Now, if they plan on taking Vita Vea in the first round…

  90. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

And you guys should know better to believe anything when Jon Gruden is involved

  91. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Joseph Mamma Says
“The real story here is that Joe used ESPN instead of the usual BSPN. Very intriguing.”
That one slipped right by me!!!!
Joe actually has a formula of when BSPN is used and when ESPN is preferred. Same formula for years. –Joe

  92. GhostofSchiano Says:

just here to read the Tmaxcon comments

  93. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Sorry Webster I actually meant to say “Unite” with Chucky. Sorry I am not as Intelligent with wisdom as you to have a book named after me !!!! When I grow up I want to be just like you.

  94. thespiritof1976 Says:

Gruden is an overrated two faced moron who is going to fall flat on his face.

Maybe McCoy is perfect for him then ?

  95. Brandon Says:

What people fail to realize is that McCoy is already making a lot of money… him and his salary aren’t likely worth a 2nd round pick. As an NFL free agent, you are worth what you get paid… nothing more in terms of players, picks, etc. McCoy is on his second contract, he is worth what he gets paid and considering the defense isn’t very good and the pass rush is downright pathetic, I’m not sure he’s quite worth what he gets paid. Yes, he’s still very good, but has he elevated the play of those around him? That being said, I hope the Raiders are as stupid as the Bucs and give away a high pick and take McCoy from us. I would like to see him play for a winner at least once in his career.

  96. Frank Says:

Perfect. Then Jason can draft another kicker in round 2. Ugh. Bucs are becoming the future Browns.
