Gerald McCoy Studies Beyoncé

February 2nd, 2018

Gerald McCoy is super hungry to be a legend of the NFL.

It may not appear that way to many, but the guy is supremely committed in his offseason workouts, would do anything for a teammate, and has a strong willingness to go outside the box to find the secret sauce of super stardom.

Joe talked to McCoy about the latter years ago, and Joe learned about how McCoy watches all kinds of documentary vidoe and training videos of sports legends to try and pick up any nugget he can find.

Speaking on The Jim Rome Show yesterday, McCoy acknowledged that he’s moved beyond the sports world in his quest for a championship edge.

“I study anybody who’s great at what they do,” McCoy told Rome. “I’ll sit down and watch a Floyd Mayweather workout. I’ll watch a Kobe Bryant workout. I’ll watch Muhammad Ali workout. I’ll read stories on what Beyoncé does to prepare for concerts or tour, or when she’s writing records.

“I read that when she’s preparing for a concert or a tour, or when she’s doing an album, she doesn’t eat. Because she’s so focused on what she has to do.”

Hearing this yesterday, Joe instantly thought of Chucky, who also had a thing for studying legends and often would invite them to visit the Bucs and share wisdom.

Who could forget Tiger Woods on the Bucs sidelines during games? (Was he just there to be near the cheerleaders?)

It’s somewhat ironic that McCoy is dialed in to the preparation of the all-time greats.

It makes Joe wonder what McCoy was thinking when he realized the magnitude of Chris Baker’s loafing act? And how Bucs officials thought Baker was the ideal defensive tackle to play next to him?

All gmc has accomplished or understands is losing.

Can’t argue the failed results of his reign as captain blowout

  2. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Can someone tell this guy to shut his piehole and play football, terribly sick of his act, he does not have the killer instinct of those great whites sharks, you ever hear kobe act like mccoy does, no, he is a warrior and would step on your neck and bury you to win never help an opponent off the ground…….and then someone tell jason licht to trade this loser for a 2nd round draft pick

  3. 813bucboi Says:

    don’t study their workouts GMC…..study their intangibles….

study how they hold people around them accountable……study their willingness to win….

  6. GMC hater Says:

It’s like he’s asking for us to make fun of him. sigh…

  7. Bucsfanman Says:

813- You can’t learn intangibles! This is what the anti-GMC crowd does not understand. He has never been nor will be the player that WE expect him to be. He will always be THAT guy. A good DT on a horrible football team who happens to be a nice guy.
We need to stop with the expectations. He is NOT Sapp.
If Ayers production lived up to his mouth, we wouldn’t be discussing this. There’s not a team out there with 11 animals on the field. I saw Leonard Fournett help a guy up. Does that make him soft?! No! If our TEAM were good and GMC was helping guys up, would we be having these stupid conversations? I don’t think so.
Man you guys distracted me from that picture of Beyonce!!!!

  8. Doug p Says:

    Trade 93!!

  9. MadMax Says:

Beyonce? HAHAHAHA Holy jit Im dying !!! ROFLMAO !!!

Can we just please draft Vita and move on….then the top DT in the draft next year will replace him. TIMES UP!

  10. C eh N eh D eh Says:

beyonce? …he’s softer than we all thought…now, he’s just another distraction with his silly rambles…don’t like to use the word but this marshmallow is bringing out the “hate” factor…walk the plank, p*ssy!

  11. Pickgrin Says:

More troll-bait. Eat it up like its your last billygoat for awhile…

  12. Bucballbaby84 Says:

Draft Vita Vea pick number 7 like tomorrow if it was possible!!! Switch to a 3-4 defense and let’s have some fun next season!

  13. Eric Says:

Virtually none of the problems of the bucs are the fault of Gerald McCoy.

He didn’t fire Chucky, hire Rutgers coach, hire Raheem Morris, Rock star, release good players, draft a kicker in second round, and so on and so on.

All he has done is man his position at a pro bowl level for years.

    Leave him alone.

  14. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Pickgrin

Your last billy goat? That was funny.

There are a lot of legitimate reasons for this seasons disaster. From hurricanes to injuries.

Then there are just excuses. For the life of me I cannot figure how the Bucs whiffed so badly on Swaggy. I know they were desperate but they have $$$ invested in PI’s…they have connections throughout the league…he couldn’t have been a surprise. Nothing explains signing him except an EXCUSE.

Same for Smitty’s game plan for JJ and the Falcons. What was that about?
Did he use his best cover corner in combination with our best cover safety to cover the best WR in the league? Nah he put a virtual rookie on an island and said good luck.

Those are two things I’ll never understand about the 2017 season,

  15. Not there yet Says:

Stop trying to study workouts because none of that helps, get your own theme music don’t ride to someone else’s. I think GMC has superior work ethic but here it is at 30 years old and he still doesn’t understand guys who win and are successful because they can envision it first, it begins in the mind GMC. Get your mind right dude, how in shape you are and how hard you practice has never brought you wins. If you want to study something go read a book about leaders or go sit and talk to leaders because you have no idea how to do that and it’s the only thing your missing.

  16. Arealbucsfan Says:

Wooow. I mean really GMC. C’mon man! How do u not know how to be a winner?

  17. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Great……

Mr Ice cream man…..aka Mr Softie…aka Mr Powderpuff man……..studying women

That’s figures…..he’d rather do that than get a sack or tackle the ball carrier.

….That explains his explosive get off……..he’s all show and no go<———-and that's when he's not hurt.

…..to bad I cannot truly type what I want to.

  18. Arealbucsfan Says:

    Ur studying Beyoncé? Wtf

  19. ZK Says:

And he player’s like her to, they both suck.

  20. Kobe Faker"s Girl Says:

I believe we are witnessing the transition of GMC to the entertainment biz

GMC focus has now shifted into the performing arts

from the Lombardi Award to the Oscars

from the superbowl parade to the gaypride parade

Gmc has made a full circle

“He is the Forrest whitaker of the NFL”

    Kandy Faker

  21. Arealbucsfan Says:

I “destroy” Jameis for eating w’s. But here I are saying u study Beyoncé……… loser

  22. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

There you go Joe My Man!!!! Love your articles like this that I get to look at these lovely lady’s you find for us!!! Keep em coming my Brother! Thank you!!!!

  23. Arealbucsfan Says:

GMC: wow look at Beyoncé’s first step. So fast. I gotta kno her trainer

  24. Arealbucsfan Says:

I’m cool with keeping the dude, but strip him of his captain title. He does not lead in any way

  25. Ed Kerber Says:

If he is not eating, perhaps he is too disgusted to even taste a W, never mind eat it!

  26. tmaxcon Says:

    Eric

you are dead wrong once again. virtually everything wrong with bucs can be traced back to gmc from quitting on coaches, soft play to coming out flat. your failed super hero has led this team into the ground. He has led revolts against 4 coaches and has came out flat virtually every big game, in his failed 8 years in tampa. your highest paid player and team captain sets the tone and the tone cancer93 sets is of a me first camera hound that has never came through when it matters. Soft, fragile mentally weak quitter and the undisputed FACE OF THE BASEMENT YEARS!

  27. 813bucboi Says:

    bucfanman

    I disagree….

in order to become a leader you must first learn how to follow…..
in order to become a winner, you must first experience losing….one of our problems is we still don’t know how to win/finish games….some of that is on coaching…some on the players….

GMC has done a ton of losing but still hasn’t become a leader that has found a way to win nor has he taught his teammates how to win….

and doesn’t he do his workouts mostly by himself, without his teammates…..

fournette may have helped a player up AFTER he ran their a$$ over….GMC helping players up that just pancaked him or one of his teammates…lol…fournette may have helped a player up while they were winning…..GMC hasn’t been that position too many times…..

back when we won our SB I saw 11 aniamls on defense…..ravens have had 11 animals on defense….seahawks….broncos…..philly……

    but it is what it is….GMC is a good player…he’s a nice guy….and he’s a buc…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

Loser for a 2nd round pick? Hmmm thats a good way to contradict yourself.

  29. DBS Says:

give it up. You and your list of hated players, owners ,coaches and total organization are well known. Everyday you blame it on something or someone different and can’t make up your mind. W-l loss matters and that is on the QB according to YOU! That means JAMEIS! You can’t can change the rules now. If there were no excuses for Glennon because of the defense giving away games there are none for Jameis. We all know your list of hated BUMS!

  30. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    realbucsfan

You don’t get to strip GMC of any captain titles unless you can become good enough to play for the Bucs.

Captains are elected by their teammates who apparently think a lot more of GMC than many of our posters. But what would the Bucs players who spend time on the field and in the locker room know about another Buc player compared to JBF posters?

  31. Dooshlarue Says:

    Hmmmm….

using glennon as a reference in a post has just rendered your the DUMBARSE of the day… Let me help you remember I was 100% right about glennon… He failed in two cities. Glennon is a heartless loser just like GMC. The glennon experiment in chicago would be hilarious if it was not so pathetically sad.

I am not going anywhere someone needs to offset the delusional optimists who attempt to rewrite history and lower standards on a daily basis. you would be better off raising your standards and stop worshiping career losers.

  33. Bucsfanman Says:

813- How zen of you! I concur, to a degree. What I reference is more that that you either ARE a leader or you’re not. He’s not. Having 11 animals on defense is extremely rare as you point out. That is not the norm.

  34. ManzielMadness Says:

I’m with the people that are on the draft Vita Vea wagon… lets get somebody that’s actually nasty in the trenches.

  35. DB55 Says:

Finally I can agree with the McCoy love. It all makes perfect sense now!

We have the baddest b1tch in the game wearing our chain.

I knew that a long time ago but it always great when they come out the closet.

Oh calling me a name really hurts my fealings. Not! the only dumbarse is you. If you can’t see YOU set the standard that any loss is on the QB when Glennon was here and that defense had GMC on it and was allowing about 31 points a game. Then blame the loss on Glennon. And say there was no excuse. But this defense gave up how many games? But pin it on GMC and the defense Then you just like to make up your hatred lists and stick to them.
But you don’t know who to blame and change depending on the day.
You jut like to cry for attention.

  39. JAB83 Says:

The comments in this post remind me of a daycare…

Good job JBF for taking care of the Buc fan crybabies…

  40. JAB83 Says:

Someone must of took their ice cream. They are blaming GMC. Bet if they asked he would give them a snow cone or something.

  41. Eric Says:

six straight pro bowls is soooooo horrible.

  42. NFLNut Says:

    Beyoncé? Really?

Had he said SERENA WILLIAMS or MAYA MOORE I would have said, “okay, sure, they’re the GOATS in their sport” … but Beyoncé? COME ON MAN!

  43. LakeLand Says:

Well Warren Sapp once did the Beyonce dance after scoring a TD in the Georgia Dome.

  44. WutdaBucisthis Says:

$Jab83 @Eric… Listen I want to trade GMC now if we can. Yes he’s NOT the problem on the line..yes HE needs help. Yes he’s doubleteamed. Problem is. Nothing to show for it. Nothing. Trade him to the Patriots, for a 3rd. Let it be known, this team isn’t built to win trying to BUILD around HIM. Enough!!! Draft Vea sign Poe sign FA DE sign Talib. Run the mother-loving 34 for crying out loud.
@Joe ..like you wrote before. Blow up the whole line.

  47. NoFlyZone27 Says:

Until the General Manager puts talented pieces around our star defensive tackle, I can’t blame him for the repeated collapse of our defense! It’s surprising how many fans complain about the team not getting national exposure but we have a star is able to represent the team in a positive light in different platforms off the field?

No drug issues, no violence issues, no poor decision-making issues…he has been a great anbassador for Tampa!

How many offseasons can we spend not putting talent around him?

  48. GhostofSchiano Says:

HEY GERALD MCCOY please, please, study the following –

    Wu Zeitan

    Timur

    Atilla the Hun

    Genghis Kahn

    Tomas de Torquemada

    Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia

Try some of their ideology, at least incorporate some into your attitude / approach on game day.

  49. DB55 Says:

Gmc currently plays with 1 Sb winner in McDonald’s a playoff players in Ayers and George Johnson. 2 pro bowl linebackers and a rookie who looks better than kwon. A pro bowl cb in grimes and a rookie safety who was like top 2-3 in int for safeties.

He played with countless SB winners throughout his career yet has never once played a playoff game. So please give me a fckn break about talent around him.

    GERALDINI MCICECREAM IS THE PROBLEM.

  50. LakeLand Says:

If GMC leave the Bucs, the Bucs will still suck. He will probably go to a winning franchise. Bucs fans need to face the facts. Their team has suck for 42 years, outside of a few years. And they will continue to suck, with or without GMC.

  51. tnew Says:

I would love him to be studying defensive line play. When you watch him play, his obsession with causing disruption is as much or more of a problem for his own defense as the offensive line.
